WHY TRY

TRACI
GENDRON HAS CARVED OUT AN INCREDIBLE DOWNTOWN FORT COLLINS BRICK-AND-MORTAR WITH AN INSPIRING MISSION IN HER BOUTIQUE, STORM FINE APPAREL. Located in the heart of Old Town, Storm is an immaculately designed storefront catering to both men's and women's fashion. Traci is more than a savvy curator who assists her clientele in choosing on-trend streetwear; the entrepreneur's 3-year-old niche boutique donates 100 percent of its proceeds to finding a cure for cystinosis, a rare metabolic disease that Traci's son Tanner has. Cystinosis afflicts just 500 children and young adults in the United States, with just 2,000 afflicted worldwide. Through her work with the Cystinosis Research Foundation and Traci's financial contributions from Storm Fine Apparel, CRF is as close as they've ever been to starting patient trials on stem cell transplants that Traci and her CRF comrades are confident could cure this disease for many. When launching Storm, Traci's vision was to find a purpose for her son and a way to fund the fight against his disease. Originally from Illinois and a hairstylist with 25 years' experience, she knew something was missing in Fort Collins when it came to men's clothing and knew she had what it takes to procure truly unique and on-trend fashion. In 2014, Traci donated her kidney to her son to increase his chances of fighting the disease. She knew if Tanner was lucky enough to surpass the life expectancy of 27, a mission-driven family business would give him the chance at a normal adult life. Tanner, now 30, works alongside his mom in the boutique. The aesthetic of Storm Fine Apparel is modern, metropolitan and upscale, with options ranging from athleisure to business casual and formal and everything in between. With the addition of womenswear and accessories, Storm is now a one-stop shop for all things luxury fashion. With Traci's eye for unique, on-trend styling, Fort Collins Lifestyle took a moment to ask her about her best practices and her favorites brands.

TRACI'S TIPS + You can never go wrong with purchasing good quality, on-trend shoes. Even with denim and a white tee, a great pair of shoes can make an outfit. + Clothing should fit well. Taking the extra step to alter clothing for your specific shape can take your look to the next level. + Accessorize with a seasonal piece like a blazer, cardigan or jacket. + Traci's favorite brands include Herman & Herman, Stone Rose, WRK and Bloom Jewelry. 132 W. WHEN LESLIE FAVELA PLANS HER NEXT DESIGN, NOT ONLY DOES SHE ENVISION A BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED SPACE, BUT SHE ALSO LOOKS FOR FUNCTIONALITY AND EMOTION. A crafted environment creates a mood or a feeling and shows off the personality of the family that lives there. It's attention to these these details that ensure decorating success.

Decorating is more than just eye appeal, it's making a room or whole home design really work for the people who live, work and play inside it. Leslie tries to incorporate natural elements in the home as those elements create a "lived-in" aesthetic. She also incorporates neutral and natural basics in all her clients' homes. For Leslie, books are a must. "They add color, inspire conversation and bring interest to a space," she says. She recommends at least one on every coffee table. In the kitchen, the use of light comes into play when designing a motif that includes glass cabinetry. Leslie advises her clients to use glass when working with a home without vast amounts of natural light as it allows darker spaces to appear brighter while also adding visual character. As the holidays approach, we always look for ways to refine our homes to enhance our guests' experiences around the dinner table. For an easy update, Leslie recommends using simple white plates CONTINUED >

with clear glasses. Leslie says these simple additions are both elegant and casual when paired together and can be used for any occasion—a perfect aesthetic for Northern Colorado. Leslie embraces simple comforts with her designs by adding minimalist pieces that can stand the test of time and includes greenery and low-maintenance plants whenever possible. While combining both masculine and feminine design motif to her clients' spaces, she also includes the use of texture. "Texture doesn't always have to be obvious for it to make a difference in your home. Simple black edging gives the room just enough impact to allow character," she says. When it comes to your home, pieces that reflect your life, your personality and your family should be included in any design plan. Pictures, vases, pillows and area rugs can all be integral parts of any great design.

LOCAL CHEESE MONGERS TINA AND ALAN MOONEY, OWNERS OF THE FOX AND THE CROW, ARE CELEBRATING FOUR YEARS IN BUSINESS THIS MONTH. With an expansion already under their belt, this husband and wife duo has an abundance of knowledge to share with the foodie community of Fort Collins. The Fox and the Crow is a full-service bistro and cheese shop specializing in impeccably curated platters for all occasions. The bistro also

the perfect stop for your holiday planning. The Mooneys and their staff are ready and available to answer any questions you may have and can't wait to pair you with the perfect cheese or create a platter for you with just 24 hours' notice. CREATING THE PERFECT CHEESE PLATTER 1. KNOW YOUR CROWD. If your guests are adventurous, world-traveling tastemakers, Tina recommends a platter with bold cheeses. If you're looking to play it safe, go with crowd-pleasing options instead.
3.
2. SELECTING BALANCED CHEESES. Create a balanced platter both in taste and shape as well as cheeses with different serving styles. Tina recommends using soft, hard and semi-soft cheeses cubed, sliced and crumbled. 3. TEXTURE. Cheeses are capable of many different serving styles. Focusing on texture allows for a wide range of experiences for your guests. Crumbling a soft or semi-soft cheese, slicing a cheese round horizontally or stacking triangles vertically around your fruit selection provides a different feel for each option. Tina also recommends a ratio of 60 percent cheese to 40 percent accompaniments. 4. PAIRINGS. Often, a client will order a premade platter from

the Fox and the Crow with a list of wines and other foods they are serving alongside the cheese plate. Tina works hard to make sure each item on her platters fits with the client's specifications. When building your own platter, Tina recommends coming into the shop and having the certified cheese professionals assist you with your selection. Knowing your wine list ahead of time will help them select the best fit. 5. POPS OF COLOR. With cheeses being a mixture of lighter, more muted colors of whites, tans and yellows, Tina recommends all the other items on your platter be full of color. Tina recommends seasonal fruits both fresh and dried as well as meats, chutneys, jams

and mustards. Don't forget to garnish with aromatic herbs like rosemary and thyme and fresh-cut flowers. Full platter recipe online at FortCollinsLifestyle.com 2601 S. Lemay Ave. Suite 9, Fort Collins, 970.999.2229,
