Welcome to the Premiere Issue of Folsom City Lifestyle!

My name is Tiffany Bellingrath, and I am the Owner and Publisher of this beautiful publication.  Some of you already know me from my previous positions around town, or from one of the several local and regional board positions I hold.  I have lived in Folsom for 5 years with my husband and 12 year old son.  I am extremely passionate about all things business, all things family, all things sports, and all things FOLSOM!

This publication gives us all a special opportunity to connect with our amazing community, friends and family, while supporting and celebrating our robust and thriving local business community.  Without our local businesses, many of the luxuries we enjoy in Folsom would not be possible.  I want to thank, in particular, the businesses who have chosen to partner with Folsom City Lifestyle.  These businesses have helped to bring a new, small business owner’s vision of adding more community connection to life.  Because of them, you will read and be inspired by your neighbors and city leaders.  I'm honored to work with our amazing partners.

It is my sincere hope that we are able to support you, Folsom.  We are going to bring inspiration, design ideas, business news, and a much anticipated monthly community calendar.  That is just the beginning, we will also have many Folsom City Lifestyle events around town.  I am most excited about the opportunity to meet each and every one of you.  It might take a few years, but I am up for it!

I would be remiss to not mention my Editor, Lisa Wolf.  This lady is also a small business owner in Folsom.  She is the perfect fit for this magazine.  Thank you, Lisa, for everything.  You will hear more from her in upcoming issues.

Now that all the sappy stuff is out of the way, let’s do this.  Go read and enjoy!

Collaborative Efforts Create a Vibrant Transformation in Historic Folsom

Maribou Salon uses local ties to revamp a restaurant into a stunning salon

A vision in pink, Maribou Salon stands out among the businesses on Folsom’s Historic Sutter Street as a testament to what local connections can do to help recreate an old space.  When the building on the 800 block of Sutter Street, originally home to Sutter Street Grill, came on the market in 2021, the owners of Maribou Salons, Jill and Larry Cromwell, decided it was the perfect place to expand their already growing business. This newest location to the Maribou Salon family, located in the heart of Historic Folsom, opened in December 2021, and has flourished ever since.

“It was a well-known space.  I was a little nervous about what people would think about something new coming in.  We had a really positive reaction from the community,”

said Jill Cromwell, owner of Maribou Salons.

From the old restaurant booth that they kept for the breakroom, to the good luck horseshoe found during construction, touches of the old favorite brunch spot continue to be seen around the salon.  Crom well says after finding the original building plans in the basement, their team tried to preserve as much of the space as they could while also fitting the needs of the salon.  "The past owners of the restaurant came by during construction and loved how the space was being transformed.”

Jill Cromwell rallied with her friends and other local business owners to help her creative vision come to life. With the help of designers  Melinda Araj ,  Designing Dreams Flooring & Remodeling , Mercado

Construction & Design , and FaGalde Interior Design , the salon’s pink exterior, modern finishes, and unique old town roots came together in under a year.

“The team was easy to work with, open to ideas, and had great taste. They helped us stick to our budget and timeline,” said Cromwell.  Randy Mintz, owner of Designing Dreams Flooring, commented on the collaborative project saying, "We bring your vision to life and so does Maribou Salons."  Designing Dreams Flooring & Remodeling have worked on multiple Maribou locations including this newest one on Sutter Street.

Cromwell says that while her husband, Larry, focuses on leading the team, she focuses on the creative side of the business, which leads to the powder-pink exterior, mid-century modern touches, and the neon pink angel wings on the back wall in the salon.  “I wanted the building to stand out and I love pink.  I wanted the windows to be open and for the view from the outside to look like a jewelry box looking in.  We came up with a vision that was going to be edgy, bright, and open,” said Cromwell.

Cromwell says this could not have come together without the help of her friends and the local business community working together on the project.  “It made it so fun to create this vision with my friends and other local business owners.  They were able to help us in a timely manner. It’s been really fun to be on Sutter Street, our staff loves it, and our clients love it.  We love being able to support local businesses too”.

The Business Elite Awards

At a local level, Triveri is committed to advocacy in her position as an active board member for Folsom’s Hope , serving at-risk youth, and Heart for Heroes , serving First Responders.  She has helped to raise over $300,000 across many non-profits, rotaries, and local organizations.  Supporting local causes is one of Jordan’s passions and one of the reasons she chose Real Estate as her career.  She states, “I have the ability to have a flexible schedule and connecting people is a huge aspect of my job already - why not put it to good use”.

“Being a young woman in the Real Estate industry, full of its superstar agents, is very challenging to say the least. I am trying to approach Real Estate differently by giving back to the community - to be able to showcase my heart and my mission first - in hopes that people will see my true nature, and therefore, trust me with their business or referrals."

Business Elite's 40 Under 40 award recognizes young professionals on different levels for being innovative in their industry and successful in their career, regardless of adversity or challenges, while also maintaining a high level of philanthropy.  Triveri says, “I came upon an opportunity to leave mainstream real estate in order to pioneer a new aspect of real estate by creating a one-of-a-kind design and build program.” Triveri is excited to continue the build out of this program and hopes it creates a lasting impact in our community.

Being a recipient of Business Elite's 40 Under 40 awards confirms Triveri and other young professionals’ ambition to aim high and connect with innovative leaders spanning all industries across the globe.  Triveri was selected from thousands of nominees for this prestigious award and we are lucky and proud to share in her success.

There have been a number of amazing female entrepreneurs in the local news lately.  Folsom Chamber of Commerce

MAKE AN IMPACT FOR DAD

What do you buy for the man who has everything? Perhaps an experience oriented around what dads value most – time together – is just what he needs. Fathers and father figures are invaluable in our lives. They help shape and mold us. They’re there for us and support us. If you haven’t already planned something special, take a look at our list of ideas and circle your favorites. If you have kids, let them join in the fun too!

Whether you decide to spend a day at home or enjoy a day on the town, these innovative celebration ideas will include fun for the whole family and make Dad feel loved. Whatever activity or surprise you land on to show your dad, husband, brother or father figure your appreciation for all they do, the most important thing is that you all get to spend some quality time together.

Memorable Ways to Celebrate The Father Figure in Your Life

GIVING BACK | LIFE + CULTURE 22

LEARN ABOUT HIS FAMILY TREE

Family heritage websites can offer insight into dad’s past and be an interesting way to study the history of your family. Present Dad with a report on his ancestors or dig in together!

PLAN A STAYCATION

You don’t need to go very far to have a great time with Dad! Explore a new neck of your own woods with a family staycation. You can go out on the town, stay at a fancy hotel and maybe even enjoy some room service!

GO BIRD WATCHING

Lay out a blanket in your backyard and grab your binoculars for a peaceful, naturefilled day. Make a list of how many different kinds of birds you see and guess if you can identify them.

GO BOWLING

Bowling is a timeless classic Dad is sure to enjoy. Bonus if the bowling alley has an arcade, chicken wings and Dad’s favorite beverage of choice.

PLAY FRISBEE GOLF AS A FAMILY

Find a local frisbee golf course and grab a slot for the family to play. This activity is fun for both young and old and helps you take advantage of being in the beautiful outdoors together.

SPOIL HIM WITH BREAKFAST IN BED

Breakfast in bed isn’t just for Mother’s Day. Dads can enjoy it too! Whip up some of his favorite brunch treats and start Father’s Day off the right way.

06 09

HAVE A WINE AND PAINT NIGHT

Sign up for an artistic experience at a local wine and paint shop so Dad can let his creative side show and you can have a custom piece of art for years to come.

TACKLE A TASK TOGETHER

Is Dad a hands-on guy? Why not spend the day constructing a tree house or painting a birdhouse? Or better yet, help him organize the garage or start a garage redesign.

07 10

DO A FITNESS CLASS TOGETHER

Consider signing him up for a fitness class together. Whether he likes cycling, boxing or HIIT, encourage him to be adventurous and try something new.

08

COOK SOMETHING ADVENTUROUS

If some of Dad’s role models include Gordon Ramsay and Bobby Flay, consider thinking outside the box and create a meal with something you wouldn’t usually go for like bison burgers or grilled octopus tentacles. Tackling a complex recipe may seem challenging but the memories and the meal will be worth it.

11

HAVE AN OUTDOOR FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

If one of Dad’s favorite pastimes is binging the Star Wars saga over and over again, how about setting up a family movie night from your own backyard? Hang a white bed sheet and project a movie onto the screen via a projector. GIVING BACK | LIFE + CULTURE 24

out after all your hard work.

13 14 15

FIRE UP THE BACKYARD GRILL

There’s no greater way to get to a Dad’s heart than the word “barbecue”. Grab extravagant meats like a rack of ribs or wagyu beef burgers and go to town.

CONSTRUCT SOMETHING OUT OF LEGOS

Harken back to Dad’s childhood with a specialty kit of legos. Embark on a family project of helping Dad build models of favorite movie props like the Death Star or Hogwarts castle.

GO AXE-THROWING

Axe-throwing venues are still going strong across the country. Make an evening of it and practice your throwing skills!

Our Favorite Bourbons

Under $150

We were recently asked to suggest the Best Bourbon under 150 Dollars and as I reflected on my list of favorites, providing a single answer wasn’t as straightforward as it appeared.

Think of it like this. If we asked 100 people in our community what their favorite restaurant is – the answers would be varied based on the individual’s personal palate or even the moment you asked them in!

Here is our list of favorites that will have you covered at any price point and occasion.

BLANTON’S SINGLE BARREL BOURBON

Blanton’s is recognizable on sight due to the round bottle with a brass horse and jockey for a stopper. Taken from the center-cut or middle sections of the famous Warehouse H. The taste profile is sweet, with notes of citrus and oak. The creamy vanilla nose is teased with caramel and butterscotch, all underscored by familiar baking spices such as clove, nutmeg, or cinnamon.

— BlantonsBourbon.com ($100-$150)

BASIL HAYDEN’S RYE BOURBON –AGED 10 YEARS

In a sea of cask-strength offerings, Basil Hayden’s stays true to its 80 proof roots. The high rye content of its mash bill charges the nose and palate with notes of caraway and spice, while 10 years in the barrel have added leather and an attractive nuttiness. If you aren’t looking for high proof, this is a remarkable bourbon.

PINHOOK ‘BOURBON WAR’ VERTICAL SERIES 5 YEARS

Pinhook pulls 150 barrels from a special lot to create this straight bourbon whiskey with a lively nose of butterscotch,

cinnamon stick, licorice, and vanilla. These aromas set the stage for a robust palate of cherry, chocolate, toasted brown sugar, and chicory. With the additional 5th year of age, what was tropical fruit transitions to darker fruit flavors and what was brighter candy is now rich and caramelized; hints of smoke now start to appear for the first time.

EAGLE RARE 10 YEAR

Eagle Rare 10 Year lives somewhat in the shadow of its 17-yearold elder sibling, but don’t let that shy you away. This is a sweet and mellow bourbon with definite signs of maturity and Its orange peel and toffee aromas are a little shy, but the palate serves sturdy sweet and spice notes and a toasty finish.

OLD FORESTER 86 PROOF

While others in Old Forester’s impressive lineup claim the hearts of bourbon geeks (such as the 1920 Prohibition Style), this bottle stands head and shoulders above everything at this proof and price point. It oozes aromatic charm and follows with a palate that is lithe but in no way lacking flavor.

— OldForester.com ($20-$30)

MCAFEE BENCHMARK OLD NO. 8

Sometimes you find a $20 laying around or just need a good mixing bourbon. Benchmark Old No. 8 is made at the same distillery at Blanton’s and the ever-coveted Pappy Van Winkle! The nose bears caramel notes with a delicate stone-fruit backdrop. A robust and sturdy palate with some fine leather notes mingling with dry tobacco, a touch of oak, and a hint of dried cherries. The finish is smooth and calming.
