I'm Thankful For You In this season of giving thanks, we often find ourselves reflecting on the many blessings in our lives. The true spirit of Thanksgiving encourages the conscious expression of gratitude. Its focus is spending time with those that you love and encourages giving back in a meaningful way. While ambition, competition and slaying goals can be very healthy, forgetting to place importance on being present, enjoying the ride and appreciating those around us that have helped us along in our journey, can leave us missing out on what truly matters. We’ll never be content if we look outside ourselves and at our possessions or titles to determine if we are fulfilled. True contentment comes from within and from fulfilling who we were made to be. I am personally thankful for my family. My husband and son have been the most wonderfully patient and loving humans through this crazy journey of launching a magazine. It's been a journey, friends! I am thankful for the many friends and neighbors that believe in our mission of making Folsom the BEST it can be. I am blessed with the best Editor a girl can ask for, Lisa Wolf. I am eternally thankful for all of you who enjoy this magazine every month. YOU make this city better. Leadership Folsom Donates $20,000 to Powerhouse Ministries This year's Leadership Folsom class project raised $20,000 for Power House Ministries, a nonprofit working to assist the underserved in our community. Leadership Folsom is a program through the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and Choose Folsom. In this year's class project, "Heartbeat of Folsom", local artists painted large heart-shaped sculptures representing life in Folsom. Businesses were able to sponsor a heart and they can be seen around town.

Gather ing s Creating Ambience for a Memorable Holiday Meal

Recently, Folsom Kitchen and Bath and Scenic Windows and Glass got together at a client's home and put together a beautiful holiday tablescape. Below they share with us about their holiday grateful gatherings.

JILL BROWN, FOLSOM KITCHEN AND BATH I am thankful for the time off and I have found my happiness in staying at home and not traveling between families as much. Traditionally our holiday starts with a big brunch with lots of drinks and heavy treats. Next, is a lunch/dinner combo where we pick at the healthy stuff (vegetarian faux turkey, etc.) and then, go for the pies. The pies! I have learned it's worth every penny to buy them. I go up to Apple Hill in the early part of November to pick one up and freeze it until Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving for most revolves around food and spending time in the kitchen preparing it. Wouldn't it be nice to have your cabinets updated with drawers and doors with soft-close hinges and have more room with a better layout that maximizes the space?

It would be lovely to have more efficiency in making sure all the cooking gadgets and utensils have their home.

ELISE HUPPE, SCENIC WINDOWS AND GLASS Thanksgiving is the perfect time to stop and reflect on the past year and express gratitude. We are blessed to have lots of family nearby and enjoy sharing (multiple) delicious Thanksgiving meals with family throughout the week. Although the traditional turkey dinner isn’t a favorite, you can find a mouth-watering Prime Rib with chimichurri sauce and a decadent honey-roasted ham on our tables! Naps are often a byproduct of our feasting. We love a fancy table with fine wine, sparkling glassware, and tasteful decor, but if we’re being honest, we’ve been raising small children for the last few years. Sippy cups and paper plates are our new normal, and guess what? Thanksgiving doesn’t always have to be fancy to be enjoyed. The greatest joy of the holidays is enjoying it with those you love in a space that makes you happy. So, whatever your Thanksgiving looks like, we hope it’s filled with love, hope, joy and gratitude!

Collecting natural elements through gifts from friends, foraging in the woods, and pulling together those items, lets my mind focus on the area we live in. Leather, linen, feathers, antlers, etc. are some of my favorite finds. The peach poppy plates are from a local vintage store, Indigo Bungalow. The other items used in the tablescapes are from years of collecting. My vision for prepping a Thanksgiving table starts coming together once the PSL (pumpkin spice latte) kicks in.

I spend time laying out my vintage/heirloom pieces, then find a new napkin or plate design to work in, then add in my own floral element. Having been in the wedding and floral design business, it works seamlessly into my decor. The goal for every table design is to incorporate a wow factor! My overall vision is comfortable and cozy with a pop of elegance. My Nana always used her finest dishes and it’s inspired me to not hold back using the fun stuff. Life is too precious not to create beautiful memories with loved ones around a gorgeous kitchen.

We picked two fun day trips to do with family in a single weekend; The Apex inside the Red Hawk Casino and The Flower Farm. A fun-for-the-whole-family, quick day trip is the somewhat recently opened The Apex at Red Hawk in Placerville. This very impressive 85,000-square-foot entertainment complex features an 18-lane ultramodern bowling alley with a separate large private VIP bowling area, indoor multi-level go-karting, golf simulators, virtual reality gaming, a large sports bar with multiple TVs to watch all the sports games, and The Apex Grill to grab snacks and lunch. You can purchase tickets for single activities or group together your activities for a special package price. From date nights to family get-togethers to birthday parties, including a custom birthday cake, there are packages to fit whatever activity you are looking for. The venue is grand and well-appointed with upscale decor and designer touches. The wine bar inside the Casque wine tasting room was crafted from a fallen walnut tree found on the property. Meet Rich Downing PUTTING THE "WOW" IN WINDOW SCREENS

“Wow!” is how I felt after meeting with Rich Downing and getting a tour of the Window Screen Solutions and More location in El Dorado Hills. Everything they do at Window Screen Solutions and More is focused on 5-star service. From providing free estimates, using the highest quality materials, and going above and beyond in service, their goal is to wow their residential and commercial customers. In addition to being a volunteer for the EDH Chamber of Commerce for over 17 years, Rich brings a legacy of 40 years of screening experience and thousands of satisfied customers in the local Folsom and El Dorado Hills area to the family-owned business. “There is no window screening job we can’t do,” beamed Rich as he showed me a workspace area designed for screen solutions over 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide accompanied by a 40-foot extension ladder. I personally have experienced their quality and service by having two sliding screen doors installed by Rich in my home. Rich’s perspective

on customer orientation is fairly straightforward: “Treat everyone better than you would expect to be treated yourself.” He has always been known for his tremendous positive spirit, courtesy, and resilience. Rich's resilience has played an important part in his personal life too as he is now in his 3rd year of Long Haul COVID. Contracted in November 2020, Rich has become an unusually severe case study with UC Davis Health Pulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic. Despite all the setbacks he's suffered from Long Haul COVID, Rich considers himself lucky and blessed. He is extremely grateful for his wife and three children, who have helped him daily, including many trips to UC Davis and various doctor’s offices. He is extremely grateful for the nurses who have spent countless hours by his side. Rich was so blown away by the kindness of the nurses that he would often ask his wife to bring them gift baskets as a token of appreciation. Rich is also extremely grateful for the Folsom and El Dorado Hills community which has allowed him to continue to grow Window Screen Solutions and More over the past three years. “We had to re-tool the business to make it easier for me to function with my disability,” explained Rich. The facility now includes a custom work table along with a carousel that holds screen rolls for 8 different size screens, adjacent to a screen frame cutting area, all designed to allow Rich to do his 5-star work more efficiently and with less physical effort than before. Folsom Turkey Trot Hosts Thousands FOLSOM RESIDENTS COME TOGETHER FOR A GRAND DISPLAY OF COMMUNITY DURING THE SEASON OF GIVING

A few things come to mind when I think of November; family, community, and giving. Folsom has always recognized the importance of giving directly back to our local community and seeks out engaging ways to do just that. Like many other Folsom families, our family participates in The Folsom Turkey Trot. It's a great way for families to spend their Thanksgiving morning together while also benefiting community members in need of support. The Turkey Trot emphasizes bringing families together for Thanksgiving and the stroller-accessible route allows families with children of all ages to participate. Choose from a 5k walk/run or the 10k run and enjoy refreshments at the finish along with raffle prizes and a souvenir t-shirt.

In addition to facilitating family bonding, the Turkey Trot creates an important sense of community. Every year, nearly 4,000 participants gather at the race start and walk/run together, forming deep bonds that strengthen the community. The history of the Turkey Trot has always involved dramatic support from local residents. The first Turkey Trot was hosted in 1896 in Buffalo, NY, with only six people registered and only four finishers. The first Folsom Turkey Trot, hosted in 2007, drew over 1,900 community members, over twice the predicted number of participants. The spirit of giving is strong among Folsom’s residents and every Folsom Turkey Trot participant adds to the community’s generous culture. Knowing that participating directly benefits our community, makes taking part in the event immensely gratifying. Proceeds from the event go towards local charities including Twin Lakes Food Bank and the Folsom Athletic Association’s Youth Assistance Fund. Funds also go towards maintaining Folsom’s scenic Johnny Cash Trail. Running on the Johnny Cash Trail and knowing that you are helping to retain its beauty and accessibility is a special way to ensure our community can continue to appreciate and enjoy it. Folsom is a generous community year-round and the Turkey Trot is the perfect vessel to channel that community care. Bring your family, meet new people, make a difference, and have fun.
