LIFESTYLE LETTER

Home Found, Vision Aligned. A Fresh Lens on Fayetteville Greetings Fayetteville! Welcome to the second edition of Fayetteville City Lifestyle, brought to you by yours truly, your local photographer, Emily Hendrick! Some might say, I'm a bubbly blend of passion, fun, and genuine connection. Here at Fayetteville City Lifestyle, we're all about bridging the gap between local businesses and our vibrant community. That's why we deliver this high-quality magazine directly to you every month! We want you to get to know our teammates each month so we can better connect with you! So, for a little bit about me, I am originally from Auburn, Alabama. It was a wonderful hometown and later became my college town. With a love for working with children, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Auburn University. Following graduation, I moved to Fayetteville in January 2023 just after getting married to my wonderful husband Myles. Now, after having a year to experience the charm, the funkiness, and the real taste of the Fayetteville community, I never want to leave. Fayetteville is home! Upon moving here, I started my own photography business. It continues to bring me so much joy to document important moments in people's lives. I love all kinds of photography and within my own business I provide: Wedding, Family, Graduate, and Branding Photos. When the opportunity to work with Fayetteville City Lifestyle came up, I knew that it would be the right move. Knowing the importance of photography in this publication, I was eager to accept the many challenging types of photos that you will see throughout. In the spirit of loving local – this issue hopefully will help everyone to fall more in love with our town, much like I have. I anticipate that it will spark intentional conversations and build relationships to connect people from our locals to our newcomers! As I continue to encounter people, businesses, and amazing events that Fayetteville has to offer, I hope to provide you with an authentic yet luxurious depiction of what it’s like to live here. I hope to inspire you. We also would wish for you to participate in this journey as well, by providing your experience of Fayetteville in pictures that we can use for our City Scenes section! Without you, Fayetteville would not feel like home. I’m honored to be the lens through which you get to experience Fayetteville in such a unique way. Make it feel like an extra special at-home date night with thoughtful touches from the heart—and hands.

From-Scratch Pasta

Yield: 1 pound

what you need

2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting 4 large eggs

what you do 1. Mound the flour in the center of a work surface with a well in the middle. Crack the eggs into the well and beat with a fork until smooth, then work flour into eggs with the fork. Use a bench scraper to work in the rest of the flour a little at a time. When the flour is incorporated, form the dough with your hands into a rounded mass for kneading. Lightly dust your workspace with flour and knead dough about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Cover dough with a bowl or plastic wrap and rest 1 1/2 hours, or chill overnight. 2. To roll by hand, flour a clean work surface. Vigorously roll dough to a very thin circle and roll constantly with even pressure as it stretches for several minutes until as thin as possible, almost translucent. 3. To cut by hand, lightly fold sheets one at a time into thirds and cut to desired thickness. Recipe from MarthaStewart.com.

Urban Cellar Winery As you walk through the door, you are taken in by the scent of open bottles of Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc. Constant conversation and tapping glasses, interrupted only by small sips, fill the room. A long bar that stretches to the end of the room sits opposite the tables full of those wanting to experience this unique small business. “We want to be known as a place to come, gather, and see everyone’s smiling faces,” said owner, Cassidy Ginger. “Whether you’re here to have a quick glass of wine or to sit down for hours with friends or by yourself to send some work emails.” Cassidy owns Urban Cellar Winery. “This has been such a rewarding journey, especially because I don’t have an industry I can compare this to,” said Cassidy. Moving her business to the square in downtown Fayetteville, Cassidy has created many different ways for people to enjoy wine in this space. As you reach the end of this tasting room, another scent arises: a line of fresh oak barrels holding the various wine choices. Next to them are the large containers holding the fermentation process that will make this wine. Something that makes Urban Cellar such a unique place is all the experiences that it offers, and one of those experiences is getting to see the winemaking process that goes on in-house. Cassidy sources her own grapes to ferment and produce her small batches of different wines. In this room, she even hosts classes to learn about and join Cassidy in making the wine. “It’s like a hybrid between a wine bar and a winery,” says assistant manager Bethany Jones.

This process of becoming a certified winemaker takes months of knowledge, diligence, and patience—qualities that Cassidy possesses and ones she has shown, also, in becoming a small business owner. However, Cassidy hasn’t needed too much patience, as she became a small business owner at just 24 years old. “If I could have told myself in college that I’d be owning a small business in Fayetteville at 24 [years old], I would have laughed in my face.” Cassidy earned her Master’s degree in business at JBU while she was working for a construction company. She said that, during this time, she was looking for opportunities that might be more fulfilling to her passions. Moving to real estate, she found a small business called the Blended Barrel that fit with one of her passions: wine. “I truly believe this was a gift God had aligned for me.” With this blessing, Cassidy began to learn more about the details of the art of making wine, as she was mentored by the previous owner in the craft and took classes out of Little Rock to earn her level 2 Wine and Spirit Education Trust. As she walks around the space of her craft, you can tell how much she has come to learn and how much she enjoys the process. She mentions how she loves that there are countless choices in crafting their house blends, and this creates a more personal, distinctive taste that is hard to replicate. CONTINUED >

“I want to create a unique, unforgettable experience that is fitting to Fayetteville’s small business scene,” - Cassidy Ginger.

Now, after a few years, Cassidy showcases more than just her love of wine at her new location on the square, but her love of Fayetteville. Cassidy grew up in Fayetteville, and she says she has always wanted to be a part of the small businesses that make Fayetteville special. “When people come to this town, it feels like a movie because of all of the personal, neat, small businesses, and that’s how I want them to feel when they come to Urban Cellar Winery,” she said. “I want to do a unique, unforgettable experience that is fitting to Fayetteville’s small business scene.” Cassidy Ginger’s Urban Cellar Winery is not only a place to buy a great product. She say it is also a place to enjoy wine with friends and family, make connections with other locals, learn something new, and make personal gifts for those you love.

Whether you know him from the Netflix hit Restaurants on the Edge or from his absolutely mouth-watering food photos as @ dennistheprescott on the ‘gram, this former-musician turned internationally-renowned Chef is an amazingly talented, thoughtful, and globe-trotting force to be reckoned with. When it comes to inspiration for creating experiences around food and your community, as well as creating travel bucket lists to some of the world’s most unique and delicious destinations off the beaten path, Chef ‘Dennis The Prescott’ is a culinary change maker whose feed you’ll want to feast on Originally an aspiring musician, Canadian-born Dennis Prescott’s journey began while in university with a single invitation from another solo musician who asked him to tour with them around the US. This eventually took him to Nashville where they began making records and pursuing their musical dreams. Yet, in the midst of all of this, Dennis was not taking care of himself — eating take out, dollar menus, etc, had become a way of life. A friend had a “come to Jesus” moment with him and stressed that he needed to start taking care of himself. Having no idea exactly what that meant or how to do so, the advice was simple: “You need to start eating better.”

The St ar t “Go to the library and borrow some cookbooks,” his friend suggested. Dennis went to a nearby library and borrowed three books only to have his friend ask why he chose those in particular. Dennis remembers saying verbatim, “I don’t know? The guy on the cover looks kinda good looking, and I feel like I could probably pull these recipes off, and he seems really happy too!” As it turned out they were three books by Jamie Oliver; it’s just that he had no idea who Jamie Oliver was at the time. Flash forward and Dennis’ first dinner-hosting experiment was made up of twenty people from the music studio, all sitting in camping chairs with beer koozies and makeshift tables in his apartment. “I remember at the time this moment of, okay, the food is on the table, it’s a stressful thing, and then everybody tucks in and they take their first bite, and there’s a moment of hush that kind of came over everyone; it got really quiet just for a second, and then everyone started talking and getting into it and I fell in love with food right there at that moment. What eventually followed were 13 episodes over nine months where the Restaurants on the Edge team traveled to and filmed restaurant revivals that included three in Canada, one in the continental US, one in Hawaii, and others outside of North America, including Hong Kong, Slovenia, Austria, Malta, St. Lucia and Finland. “ W hen you get of f t he b e at en pat h a l it t le bit , you le a r n t he d i f ferenc e b et we en vac at ion a nd t ravel .

Travel Recom mend at ions for Foodies “Slovenia borders Italy and Croatia, which is to say there are a lot of shared values in and around food; they have really great cheese, dairy, beef, pasta, but very few tourists, hardly any. So if you love Italy, that kind of specific travel and food experience, particularly Northern Italy, because you can see the Alps from where they are. It’s picture perfect, a beautiful place, and also where orange wine is from.” Dennis also highly recommends Costa Rica, Hawaii and Finland. “Most people love the idea of travel, but we tend to pick the same places when we travel, and there is nothing wrong with that, they are amazing for a reason, but when you get off the beaten path a little bit, you learn the difference between vacation and travel.” Restaurants on the Edge is important and meaningful to Chef Prescott because it tells stories of hope and joy and redemption around the kitchen. Oftentimes the food space can be very stressful, but he believes that at the end of the day, people just want to spend time with other people that they love. One of the most common fears Dennis hears from people cooking and/or grilling at home is, ‘where do I start? I don’t know how to get going, so I just don’t.’ Rather than overcomplicating it, Dennis recommends cooking the things that bring you joy — things that are on a restaurant menu you can’t NOT order because you’re so pumped that those dishes are on there. “Find the things that you love. Take the stress out of food. Feed people because all they really care about is spending time with you. Bring joy back into the kitchen.”
