Kindness Speaks

Kindness has meant different things to me over the years. Once, it was as simple as someone holding a door. Now, it feels deeper. It’s the quiet compassion of someone choosing not to stare at my special needs daughter—a small grace that speaks volumes. I’ve come to realize kindness often lives in the tender silences, in the things we don’t do just as much as the things we do.

Kindness.

On our way to see Abby's Granny last month, we made our usual stop at Buc-ee’s— mostly because it’s the only place with bathrooms clean enough for Abby (at least in my opinion). The brisket sandwiches and T-shirts are a super fun bonus!

As I was helping her wash her hands, a beautiful girl with the brightest, soul-lifting smile stepped up to the sink beside us. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her glance at Abby, and for a split second, my mama-heart braced itself: Will she notice Abby’s differences and pull away?

But no. Not this girl. She stood a little taller, her smile grew even bigger, her eyes sparkled—and she greeted us with the warmest, “Hello! How are you?” I replied, “We’re well, how are you?” Without missing a beat, she cheerfully said, “I’m great! Have a good day!”

Sweet girl, I don’t know who you are, but I know one thing for sure—your mama raised you right. Maybe you have a little sister with Autism, maybe not. Either way, your kindness made me stand a little taller, smile a little brighter, and let my eyes shine a little more, too.

Kindness. Speaks.

Blessings to you all, and have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Begins with YOU

The holidays have a way of calling us back to what matters most—faith, family, compassion, and the quiet but powerful act of giving. As lights go up and calendars fill, there are still many who sit in silence, carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone. But what if this season, you could be the spark that changes everything for someone else?

The founders of City Lifestyle, through their private foundation, are once again launching its annual Christmas Giving Campaign—a heartfelt effort to seek out and support individuals and families who have quietly fallen through the cracks. The mission is simple: to bring light, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.

Since its beginning just four years ago, this initiative has grown from a humble idea into a life-changing movement. Last Christmas alone, more than 200 families across the country received unexpected support—financial relief, but also something even more powerful.

“We don’t just send checks,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”

Together with City Lifestyle President Matthew Perry, Steven has helped shape this into a tradition that goes far beyond charity. “This is about community,” Matthew adds. “We believe we’ve been blessed, so now we get to be a blessing.”

Every story begins with a nomination. Often, it’s a neighbor, coworker, friend, or teacher—someone who’s been quietly carrying too much for too long. One past recipient, after receiving unexpected support during a time of deep personal struggle, wrote:

SCAN TO NOMINATE

“We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”

“Beyond the very practical solution of receiving funds to fix my car, this thing you guys worked together to do is bigger than that. I carry the Christmas card you sent in my purse. When things get really hard, I pull it out and remember what it felt like to be seen. That card represents hope— that change for the better is possible. I’m not sure how many people get to carry hope around in their purse. But I do.”

Another wrote in after her husband was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and unable to work:

“This support has blessed our family not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually as we trust God to meet our needs throughout this difficult time. Thank you to our anonymous friend and to your foundation. What a joy and gift to be part of God’s family!”

Each year brings countless stories like these—real lives touched by simple acts of kindness. Some use the funds to pay overdue bills, others to afford groceries, medication, or repairs. But no matter the circumstance, the impact is the same: hope is restored.

This season, you have the opportunity to be part of that. The campaign is now open to nominations—completely confidential and prayerfully considered. Whether it’s someone battling illness, facing unemployment, or just in need of a helping hand, you can bring them a moment of grace that will ripple far beyond Christmas morning.

“Knowing my mom was chosen filled my heart with indescribable joy,” said another past recipient. “Your generosity doesn’t just brighten her life; it inspires hope and faith in all of us. It enables her to stay in her home and get back on her feet.”

Nominations are open from November 1st to December 5th, 2025. To submit someone you know, simply scan the QR code or visit @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the nomination form in the bio.

This holiday season, let’s give more than gifts. Let’s give each other the gift of being seen. Because sometimes, the smallest gesture becomes someone’s greatest miracle.

Ansley Real Estate Founder and Chairman Bonneau

and his family had the honor of presenting a $121,275 check to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Ansley
Ansley VP of Operations, Terra Thurmond, Office Manager, Theresa Ruppert, and Managing Broker, Kaley Butcher welcomed guests to their grand opening in September.

PURCHASE With a PURPOSE

From supporting hospitals to humane societies, the heart of Ansley Real Estate is giving back to the communities they serve. Fayette County is the latest beneficiary of the Georgia-grown company’s philanthropic efforts.

Ansley opened a real estate brokerage office in Peachtree City this year, and the local newcomer is already making a positive impact. “Our office is a gold sponsor for ‘The Fred,’ and we love bringing live music to our sweet town,” Managing Broker Kaley Butcher said.

Additionally, more than 20 local Ansley Realtors® are finding their own ways to give back. Among them are Chris Flanigan, a major supporter of Bloom, St. Vincent de Paul, Midwest Foodbank, and Lois Coccia, a major donor for Two Sparrows Village, Fayette County Master Gardeners’ Club, and the Veterans Advocacy and Benefit Association. She and Angela Yoder are also the presenting sponsors for Fayette Humane Society’s Christmas Tour of Homes. Dorrie Love, Mindy McBroom, & Lynnie Candler hosted a Valentine’s Day party at the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.

“Our agents are also involved with the Women’s Council of Realtors, which annually raises funds for the Breast Cancer Survivors’ Network,” Butcher said.

Philanthropic efforts are at the heart of Ansley Real Estate.

Founded in 2015 by Atlanta native Bonneau Ansley, one of the top real estate agents in Georgia and in the United States, Ansley Real Estate has quickly grown to seven offices and 500 agents in Georgia. The company is also the affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate in Metro Atlanta. From inception, Ansley has emphasized making meaningful contributions to the communities it serves while also winning in the marketplace. To date, Ansley has donated over $1 million to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta. “Early on, we established a relationship with CHOA because we recognized that building strong communities benefits everyone,” Bryan Peterson, Ansley’s vice president of marketing, said. “As a company, we have always given a portion of every sale to CHOA, and our agents and clients can have the opportunity to contribute with every sale.”

Fayette County’s growth attracted Ansley. But the company also recognized the area was underserved by real estate companies with Ansley’s level of marketing prowess, as well as the Christie’s International Real Estate affiliation, which reaches buyers and sellers worldwide.

Consumers can quickly recognize an Ansley brochure or sign thanks to the company’s strict brand guidelines. Ansley’s marketing also includes attention to quality print materials and professional photography used in property listings that isn’t always found with some of the national firms. “That’s helped us create an image that sets us apart from most real estate brokerages,” Peterson said.

Just as giving back is a priority, Ansley believes relationship comes first with clients. Ansley represents buyers and sellers at all price points and all different types of properties.

“Whether your home is $100,000 or $10 million, you’ll receive the same experience and treatment with the company and the agents,” Peterson said.

Ansley agents Kristin Sheehan and Susie Uhlich toured the new Arthur M. Blank Hospital and saw first-hand what Ansley's $1M+ donations can do for GA kids!

GENEROUS POURS

Napa Valley vintner pours generosity into Two Sparrows Village.
Vintner Malek Amrani appeared on ATL Live to spotlight the Two Sparrows Village Bird Bash where his award winning wines will be featured.

For Malek Amrani, wine has never been just about the glass. It’s about people—the conversations it sparks, the stories it carries, and the connections it creates. As co-founder of The Vice Wine, Malek has earned a reputation for crafting small-lot Napa Valley vintages that balance individuality with approachability. “We are a Napa Valley winery with a mission to make exceptional Napa Valley wines accessible to all, forever,” says Malek.

Born with an entrepreneurial spirit and a global perspective, Malek poured his energy into creating a wine label that mirrors his own philosophy: excellence without pretense. For Malek, “a gentleman’s winemaker lets the wine speak, shaping it with patience and respect so that nature’s voice is always the one heard first.”  From rich Cabernet Sauvignons to elegant Chardonnays, The Vice offers a portfolio as diverse as the people who enjoy it. Whether shared over an intimate dinner or paired with something as simple as a bagel and schmeer, Malek insists that wine is at its best when it brings people together.

Two Sparrows Village supporters flocked to the Amrani home for their annual wine tasting fundraiser trip.

“Life is a short ride, be generous with your heart, time, and with what you were gifted. [Giving is] a way to honor the support I’ve received. By giving, I also receive more. It’s very true, what goes around comes around.”

That belief extends far beyond the vineyard. Malek’s benevolence shines through in his support for causes that matter deeply to him. Among them is Fayette County’s own, Two Sparrows Village, a nonprofit dedicated to providing adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities a life full of dignity, opportunity, and community. The mission resonates strongly for Malek. Just as he celebrates individuality in every vintage, he admires how Two Sparrows Village honors the individuality of every person they serve.

Two Sparrows founder, Jennifer Conforti and Malek on set at ATL Live.

His donations of wine to support events like Two Sparrows Village Bird Bash are more than generous gestures; they’re acts of connection and kindness. Giving is one of life’s obligations, and Malek believes that if The Vice can help Two Sparrows Village grow its mission, then that’s the best pairing imaginable.

Malek and his wife Torie recently hosted a group of Two Sparrow Village major donors at their home atop one of the five mountains that surround the Napa Valley.  “Walking in after a red-eye and finding my house buzzing with Two Sparrows Village guests was wild in the best way,” says Malek. “It was pure fun to see the house alive with so much warmth. I actually felt very honored to find great energy, laughter, glasses clinking, and people connecting. I was reminded that some of the best moments come when our habits are interrupted in the most beautiful of ways.”

It is this combination of craft and compassion that defines Malek Amrani. He has built The Vice Wine not only as a brand, but as a philosophy; that luxury should be shared, and that authenticity and generosity matter as much as artistry. In every pour, there is a reminder that Napa’s finest wines can be both world-class and welcoming. And in every act of giving, there is proof that Malek’s true legacy will be measured not only in bottles, but in the lives touched along the way.

Thanks, But No Thanks!

Embrace the art of saying “no thanks” to annoying traditions this Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a time to, as it says in the name, give thanks. Composed of family gatherings (some wanted and some endured) alongside Friendsgivings, football, parades, and too much food, Thanksgiving kicks off the “holiday season.” We’re told, as a society, to use this one day to give thanks for everything around us in a traditional way. But what about the traditions we’re silently unthankful for? This year, while still remaining grateful, it’s time to learn to say, “No thanks.”

According to a self-reported study floating around Google, the average person over 21 years old in the United States says “thank you” about six times per day. That equates to roughly 2,200 times a year. Saying “thank you” might be second nature, but that doesn’t make it any less panic-inducing when it comes time to go around the table and announce what you’re thankful for. The stress of finding something to say, hoping it sounds profound enough, and waiting nervously for your turn while silently praying you don’t embarrass yourself - it’s a lot. And let’s not forget the added bonus of everyone silently judging whether your gratitude is heartfelt enough to make the cut. This Thanksgiving, say “no thanks” when someone suggests the gratitude circle. Instead, propose having everyone anonymously jot down their thanks, then let the bravest soul in the group read them aloud.

Once you’ve survived that ordeal and finally claim your seat at the food-laden table, the pressure shifts to overeating. Your grandmother insists you try her deviled eggs, your eccentric aunt pushes her sweet potato casserole, and your father piles on the turkey he’s been bragging about since sunrise. Soon enough, you’re surrounded by hovering eyes, waiting for you to clean every crumb of cranberry sauce off your plate. But here’s the truth: you don’t have to. Go ahead and say “yes, please” to a sliver of pie later, but don’t fold under the pressure to sample every dish like it’s a competitive eating contest. People-pleasing isn’t worth the post-meal stomachache. And while we’re here - if there are marshmallows on the sweet potato casserole? That’s an automatic “no thanks.” Honestly, the only thing more offensive than candied yams pretending to be dessert is having to smile politely while choking them down.

As the meal progresses and the fork-scraping soundtrack begins, brace yourself for the intrusive questions. Whether it’s “Why don’t you have a girlfriend?” or “So, when are the kids coming?” or some other thinly veiled jab, remember: you’re not obligated to play along. Say “no thanks” to invasive questions and change the subject. Politics and religion probably aren’t your safest bets, but tossing out a harmless weather prediction (i.e., “Think we’ll get more snow this year?”) or dropping a hint about your Black Friday wish list will do the trick. No need to fuel conversations that drain you. If all else fails, just start stacking dishes like you’re heading for the sink; nothing distracts nosy relatives faster than the possibility of someone else doing the cleanup.

At the end of the day, Thanksgiving is supposed to be about gratitude, but that doesn’t mean sacrificing your sanity. Say “yes” to the pie, “no” to the casserole with suspicious toppings, and “absolutely not” to Aunt Linda’s third round of personal interrogations. Because let’s be real - the only tradition that deserves to survive every year is the one where you unbutton your jeans, collapse on the couch, and fall asleep before Santa appears on the Macy’s parade. Now that’s something to be thankful for.

While it ’s often referred to as “hydration therapy,” it ’s a lot more than just an infusion of hydration. We offer various vitamin and medication therapies as well as straight hydration, minerals, and electrolytes. IV therapy delivers fluids, vitamins, and nutrients directly into the bloodstream for efficient absorption. This approach is intended to support hydration, energy, and overall wellness, and may be used for concerns such as dehydration, migraines, nausea , cold & flu symptoms, heartburn, hangovers, fatigue, menstrual cycle symptoms, stress, and more

Enjoy time with family, Fayette County

Family,

From First Cry to Goodbye

Dr. Cook leaves a legacy of care that personifies his remarkable journey in women’s health.

For nearly four decades, Dr. William Tecumseh Cook has been a trusted name in women’s health in Fayette County and beyond. A board-certified OB/GYN at The Women’s Specialists of Fayette, Dr. Cook has dedicated his life to helping families bring new life into the world, having delivered more than 5,000 babies over the course of his career.

Dr. Cook’s story begins in Michigan, where he was raised in a family that practically lived and breathed medicine. His father was a family physician, and among his five sisters, three became nurses and one became a doctor. “That’s just what you do,” he recalls lightheartedly. He earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan, then completed his residency at the University of Chicago.

Initially, Dr. Cook thought he might follow in his father’s footsteps into primary care. But during medical school, a rotation in OB/GYN changed everything. He was inspired by a male resident who combined professionalism, skill, and a calming presence. “He was really good at what he did,” Dr. Cook remembers, and knew that OB/GYN was the path he would take.

After residency, Dr. Cook and his wife moved south, seeking a warmer climate for his wife, a Chicago native. Their first stop was Buckhead, where Dr. Cook practiced at Piedmont Hospital. When Piedmont began developing medical services in Fayette County, the Cooks recognized the area’s great schools and quality of life. They relocated in 1995, just before the Atlanta Olympics.

Dr. Cook quickly became a bridge between Piedmont’s Atlanta base and the emerging Fayette medical community. When Piedmont Fayette Hospital opened, he served as its first Medical Staff President. “That was a really cool thing to be able to do,” he says. “Everything was a clean slate - every procedure, every process. We credentialed over 200 physicians in the first year. It was amazing to watch everything come together: young doctors, new technology, and incredible energy.”

By 2006, when the hospital needed to expand women’s services, Dr. Cook made a bold move. He left his existing group and started a new practice on his own. He took an online business course through Auburn University to prepare. “That’s something I’m really proud of,” he reflects. “It helped the hospital thrive by bringing diversity and focus to women’s care.”

His mantra for building a welcoming practice? “Cloth gowns and a fish tank.” While some saw it as frivolous, he knew small touches mattered. The fish tank soothed anxious children in the waiting room, and the cloth gowns made patients feel valued and comfortable.

For Dr. Cook, delivering babies has always been more than a job, it’s a profound privilege. “It’s amazing to be part of families as they begin,” he says. “The entire room is focused on one moment, and everyone’s excited. That’s a really rare thing to be part of, and to be part of it 5,000 times… that’s awesome.”

One unique tradition Dr. Cook became known for happened almost by accident: playing music during surgery, especially C-sections. Wanting to create a calming atmosphere for moms, he brought his own boombox and curated playlist. He timed songs to different stages of the delivery - Pink Floyd’s instrumental “Comfortably Numb” played as the epidural set in, the Forrest Gump theme song reminded everyone that “life is like a box of chocolates,” and a lively jazz version of “Happy Birthday”perfectly covered those magical first moments after birth. Toward the end of the procedure, “Closing Time” signaled the finish.

The best part was when the timing synced just right—the whole room would cheer. Nurses, anesthesiologists, parents… everyone was united in joy and focus on the main event . It became a fun, meaningful ritual that set Dr. Cook’s deliveries apart and made the experience memorable for everyone in the room.

Patients consistently describe Dr. Cook as professional, kind, a great listener, and non-judgmental. He’s spent his career helping expectant mothers build confidence, reassuring them that their experiences - joyful, stressful, or somewhere in between - are all part of the journey to bringing new life into the world.

Dr. Cook and his wife raised three children - a son and two daughters - and have the joy of two grandchildren. In February 2026, he will retire, having achieved his final goal: ensuring a smooth succession for the practice he built.

Here’s to Dr. William Tecumseh Cook - a remarkable doctor, leader, mentor, and friend.
