Go Ahead… Put Up Your Walls

Certain memories wrap around your heart like a perfectly tied ribbon. For me, one of those memories is sitting beside my mother for hours on end, flipping through wallpaper books just for fun. Not because we needed wallpaper. Not because we were redecorating. Simply because my mom found joy in imagining what could be.

We’d spend afternoons in a little paint and wallpaper store in Palatine, Illinois, turning page after page of patterns and textures like they were storybooks. Florals, stripes, damasks, tiny vines—each one a new possibility. She’d lean in with excitement, her eyes lighting up. “Look at this one, Jenny! Oh, wouldn’t this be so pretty in your bedroom?”

My mother had the most incredible eye for design. She could look at a blank wall—or a blank anything—and see a masterpiece waiting to happen. She taught me that one person’s white is another person’s off-white. That ecru is absolutely not beige. That taupe lives somewhere on the gray scale, not brown. She effortlessly understood color, texture, and warmth.

And it wasn’t just wallpaper. She could create a dried flower arrangement more beautiful than anything you’d find in a shop. And her ribbon bows? Forget about it. Hands down, the best bows I’ve ever seen. Every detail mattered to her because she believed home was made in the details.

While putting together our March Home Issue, I found myself thinking about her often. Maybe it’s the season of fresh starts, or maybe it’s the way home stories always pull us back to where we began. Wallpaper, in particular, has made a beautiful comeback—and it’s showing up in some truly stunning homes right here in our community. This month’s features celebrate the creativity, comfort, and personal touches that turn houses into homes.

Working through these pages has felt just like flipping through those wallpaper books with my mom, sparking inspiration, warmth, and the sweetest memories. Here’s to the spaces we create, and the people who taught us how.

With warmth and blessings,

March 2026

INSIDE A CUSTOM HOME DESIGNED FOR CONNECTION AND EVERYDAY LIFE.

CONNECTIONS.

ARTICLE BY PAM REID | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ELIZABETH GRANGER PHOTOGRAPHY
“I DON’T THINK ART NEEDS TO MATCH,” AMANDA SAYS. “IT NEEDS TO MEAN SOMETHING.”

A single road off Elders Mill in Senoia quietly tells a much larger story. It winds through 266 acres purchased years ago by a local family. It is land that has evolved into a thoughtfully planned family compound, where several homes sit, each on generous acreage, connected not by fences but by intention. At a time when families are often scattered across cities or states, this compound represents a deliberate return to proximity, shared life, and generational connection.

One of the most recent homes to rise on the compound belongs to Amanda Knight Statham, her husband Tommy, and their two children. Designed with intention and built with deep personal investment, the 7,300-square-foot home sits on 20 acres and reflects not only the family’s tastes, but the layered story of the land and the people who inhabit it.

To bring that story to life, the family turned to Angie Palmer, owner and principal designer of Palmer Kay Design. With years of experience and an instinctive ability to translate dreams into amazing environments, Angie approached the project as both designer and interpreter. This was not her first time working with the family. Angie was the designer for the parents’ home on the compound, and so a foundation

The Statham Family – Amanda, Elizabeth, Henry, Lucy, and Tommy.
“THAT DISCOVERY REVEALED ITSELF IN CABINETRY, WALLPAPER, AND UNEXPECTED POPS OF COLOR THROUGHOUT THE HOME. AMANDA, WHO ONCE DEFAULTED TO NEUTRALS ACCENTED BY ART, NOW EMBRACES COLOR AS PART OF HER DAILY EXPERIENCE.”

of trust provided a great starting point. “From the beginning, I adored this family,” Angie shares. “They’re very close and very sweet people. I’ve enjoyed working with the entire family.”

Amanda, who is a builder, runs Builders Professional Group alongside her father and brother. Although Amanda has spent more than 20 years in the industry, and this is the fourth personal home she has built, she and Tommy knew they wanted a designer’s guidance. Their styles, after all, could not have been more different. Through Angie’s unique process of ascertaining her client’s design styles, she learned, “Tommy is 100 percent historic Williamsburg,” Angie explains. “Antique furniture, rich history, pieces with stories. Amanda is modern and eclectic.”

Angie began her process by surveying Amanda and Tommy separately, gathering information about their favorite colors, tastes, and how they wanted their home to feel . When she compared their answers, there was little overlap. That contrast, however, became Angie’s opportunity to create something incredibly special.

Through thoughtful layering, Angie blended traditional architectural details - trim, molding, classic proportions - with

modern lighting, furnishings, and bold accents of color. The result feels very intentional and flows beautifully.

“I thought I wanted all white walls,” Amanda admits. “Angie figured out before I did how much I really like color.” That discovery revealed itself in cabinetry, wallpaper, and unexpected pops of color throughout the home. Amanda, who once defaulted to neutrals accented by art, now embraces color as part of her daily experience.

Angie’s work extended beyond aesthetics into the heart of family life. The home’s upper floor is devoted to the children, with an art room, reading library, and bedrooms designed around their interests. Henry, age 10 and a budding architect, designed his own room - handing over a drawing complete with color choices and details. Elizabeth, age 2, has spaces designed to grow with her. “This is a true family home,” Angie emphasizes. “Everything revolves around the kids.”

Art plays a central role as well. Framed watercolors of meaningful buildings, themed birthday plaques from years past, and personal collections fill the home - not to match, but to matter.

“I don’t think art needs to match,” Amanda says. “It needs to mean something.”

The architectural plans, created by Roger Caldwell of Caldwell Cline, were executed over just more than a year, with the family moving in at the end of October 2025. Angie, who launched her business as a solo designer, now led her team of three designers alongside Amanda’s build team, coordinating thousands of decisions - from structural details to final styling.

“These are massive projects,” Angie reflects. “This one was a true team effort.”

Today, Tommy enjoys his car barn filled with collectibles. The children thrive in spaces designed just for them, and the family enjoys daily life within walking distance of parents and siblings - close, but never crowded.

For those considering building their first home, Amanda offers simple advice: patience, compromise, and clarity. Focus on how you’ll live in the space. If possible, invest in an architect and designer who take time to truly get to know you. “Trust the process. Trust your designer. Trust your builder. There were things we didn’t even realize we wanted.” Amanda continues, “Working with Angie was really great. I just let go and trusted that Angie would make it all look fine. I love everything. Walking into the house, it’s just perfect. I’m very pleased.”

On this quiet road off Elders Mill, that trust has resulted in something enduring - a beautifully designed home, a compound, and a way of living that brings generations together by design.

TURAN DESIGNS BLENDS TIMELESS BEAUTY WITH EVERYDAY FUNCTION.

Everyone is busy, and life is complicated. That’s why Turan Designs focuses on creating kitchens and bathrooms that offer practical functionality and long-lasting beauty. From initial concept through completion, owners Teri and Mikail Turan have earned a stellar reputation for creating fresh, elegant, and affordable kitchen and bath designs for clients in Fayette County and surrounding communities.

ARTICLE BY SUSAN WALWORTH PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

“More clients are looking to simplify their lives, which includes simplifying design,” Teri said. “I think we’re having a real Bauhaus moment where form is following function—most important is that everything functions.

Turan Designs remodels enhance functionality while adding longlasting beauty to the home.

Gone are elaborate designs such as Tuscan-style kitchens. “No more corbels and travertine that you have to dig dirt out of the holes,” Teri said. “People say the same thing all the time, ‘Teri, I don’t want to clean.’” It’s about clean lines, simple design, and durable materials. Easy to function in, easy to keep clean with a warm, comforting, color palette.”

Teri, who likes to create designs that won’t be out of style in a few years, said most people are choosing simple shaker-style cabinet doors in soft tones and wood, which is making a comeback. For fixtures, champagne bronze and brushed pewter are among Teri’s favorites, while she tries to steer clients away from oiled-rubbed bronze. “Fifteen years of this (oiled-rubbed bronze). I’m over it,” she said.

When clients have specific ideas that may not align with her own, Teri provides her honest opinions. “I’m from New England, so if you want me to be honest and blunt, you came to the right person,” she said. With a background in fine art and art history, she is also confident in her ability to make her clients’ vision work, even if it differs from her own.

Hurricanes in Florida drove the Turans from Florida to Georgia 20 years ago. Being an avid traveler and living and designing in several places across the country, including Southern California and New York City, has given Teri an added perspective for creative possibilities in her designs. Although each area presents unique challenges, such as Georgia’s humidity, Teri tackles them while avoiding cookie-cutter designs. “My job is to work through those challenges with more of a global outlook than just a local or regional outlook,” she said. “You’re cutting off so much of what’s available out there in the world—it’s

not giving people all the possibilities that they could enjoy if they’re introduced to it.”

As a small design studio, Turan Designs prioritizes American-made products and personal service. After an appointment is made, the all-inclusive, full kitchen and bath renovations begin with a visit to the client’s home to assess the space and to discuss budget and needs. “We have a nice chat about what they’re looking to do and what my ideas might be for the space,” Teri said. Next, clients come to the Turan Designs studio in Tyrone to review drawings and to choose from the extensive selection of cabinetry, door styles, and hardware.

“It’s a hand-holding process,” Teri said, adding that she expects her clients to stay engaged as she guides them through everything from picking paint colors to selecting flooring. Teri also shops with clients for the items that Turan Designs doesn’t sell. Partnering with several local businesses, she gets better pricing, which she passes along to clients. Working with the best local contractors, most projects are completed within six to twelve weeks.

agents even tout kitchens and baths by Turan Designs in their listings. Teri said it’s not unusual for quality kitchen and bath remodels to reap an 80 to 100 percent return on investment. “People go crazy for a brand-new kitchen,” she said. “Kitchens and bathrooms sell the house.”

In addition to full remodels, Turan Designs also sells cabinets for new construction and to clients who hire their own contractors. But only the Turan Designs meticulous installation team installs Turan Designs cabinets.  “We don’t sell cabinets that we don’t install. There are a lot of guys out there who say they can install cabinets, but there’s a real finesse to working with finished material.”

“They’re incredible craftsmen,” Mikail agreed. “They’re amazing.”

With roots that run deep in the cabinet industry, Teri understands the importance of quality materials and meticulous installation. “My family has been in cabinet manufacturing in Los Angeles since the 1920s,” she said. “It’s not like all this fast-made stuff today.”

Like many husband-wife business teams, Teri and Mikail each play an important role in the company’s successful process, which has taken years to develop from scratch.  Mikail handles project management, day-to-day operations, and assists with builder sales and logistics, while Teri focuses on design and customer service. Despite their experience, Teri said they still learn new things every day. But most importantly, she said, “We have a good time together.”

BEYOND THE WALL

THE EVOLUTION OF CREATIVITY, CRAFTSMANSHIP, AND JOY BEHIND MODERN WALLPAPER – ACCORDING TO SARAH THOMAS.

So many people are victims of the rising and falling of trends. Wallpaper, in particular, surged in popularity among what is now an “older” generation, only to fall out of favor with their children. This could be due to ever-fluctuating opinions on design, or perhaps the lingering “trauma” of renovating parents’ homes - stripping wallpaper and unintentionally taking drywall with it due to the paper’s composition. Either way, about five years ago, wallpaper began to resurrect in popularity, and Sarah Thomas, owner of Sarah’s Home, was quick to take advantage.

Sarah’s Home opened its doors in 2014 and has evolved over the past twelve years

“The papers today are art forms. The base they’re made on, the subject matter, the colors, the way to use it - it’s spectacular.”
“[The most important thing is] “that you live in a house that brings you joy and evokes an emotion – I think wallpaper helps do that.”

to include upholstery, custom drapery, and, of course, wallpaper. Due to the nature of her work, Sarah visited homes, scrolled social media, and flipped through magazines, all of which revealed the slow yet undeniable comeback of wallpaper. This revival, however, is less about resurrecting a former trend and more about elevating wallpaper’s craftsmanship.

“The papers today are art forms,” Sarah proclaims. “The base they’re made on, the subject matter, the colors, the way to use it - I mean, it’s spectacular.”

Her mention of “the way to use it” extends far beyond accent walls or entire dining rooms. It even goes beyond traditional wall application altogether. In reality, the sky is the limit. When it comes to wallpaper, “You can think outside the box,” Sarah explains. “Just because it says it’s used for one thing doesn’t mean you can’t use it for another.”

In other words, wallpaper is not only an art form through flattened patterns, such as grand-scale murals, or expansive textures like grass cloth, wood veneer, or crystal beads, traditionally applied

to walls. It is also art in its versatility. Wallpaper can be applied to furniture, door fronts, and even the front of a refrigerator. Simply prime the surface as you would a wall, then apply. Advancements in wallpaper composition now allow it to be applied and removed without causing damage, eliminating the fear instilled by wallpaper rolls of the past.

Ultimately, wallpaper “transforms a space differently,” Sarah states. No matter how it’s used, “It evokes something. And that’s the most important thing - that you live in a house that brings you joy and evokes an emotion – I think wallpaper helps do that.”

As a result, Sarah has created a space in her store where patrons can grab a cup of coffee, flip through books of wallpaper samples, and dream. Whether you choose to invest in the moment or return later, one thing remains true: “Wallpaper is fun to look at.”

For more information, visit sarahshomedesign.com or stop by her storefront at 308A Willowbend Rd, Peachtree City, GA 30269 to see and feel the joy wallpaper can bring.

Macaroni and cheese so decadent, you'll feel like you struck it rich.

More Cheese? YES, PLEASE!

Ultra-creamy, decadently cheesy, and worthy of its name, this Million Dollar Macaroni and Cheese is comfort food at its finest. A rich blend of five to six cheeses, warm spices, and a silky sauce baked until golden makes it perfect for holidays, gatherings, or anytime indulgence.

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare pasta according to package directions for al dente.

2. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, dry mustard, kosher salt, black pepper, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper, and cook for 30 seconds. Add flour, and cook, stirring until golden, for about 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk and cream. Bring to a boil, whisking as you go. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer, whisking, until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir in Worcestershire sauce. Remove from heat; stir in 3/4 cups of each of the cheeses, minus the parmesan, if you’re using it, until melted. Reserve the remaining 1/4 cups of each cheese, plus parmesan, for topping later in the baking process. Stir in pasta; pour into a lightly greased 13 x 9-inch (3-quart) baking dish.

3. Bake on a rimmed baking sheet in a preheated oven until bubbly and golden, 30 minutes. Remove from oven; increase oven temperature to broil. Sprinkle with reserved shredded cheeses; broil 6 inches from the heat until cheeses are melted and golden, about 2 minutes. Remove from oven; cool slightly on a wire rack for about 15 minutes.

Make-ahead tips: Prepare through Step 2 up to 1 day in advance; cover and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before proceeding with Step 3.
