he number one reason why buyers at Cronic Chevrolet Buick GMC are choosing the Chevrolet Colorado is because of its excellent fuel efficiency. According to James Mills, Sales and Inventory Control Manager, “Most of them are V6 and they’ll get 20 mpg in town and 26 or 27 on the highway. It makes a great truck for the person that doesn’t have to haul horses or backhoes. You’ll still be able to haul your lawnmower and make a Home Depot run. It’ll tow 7,000 pounds, so that’s pretty good for a midsize truck.” James says that it’s more than just gas mileage. The Chevrolet Colorado also offers OnStar and other safety features like ABS brakes, back up cameras, and airbags. James recently had a customer choose to buy a Colorado because of the doorway

headroom and space inside. His customer had been hitting his head while trying to get into his old truck of a different make and model. The Chevrolet Colorado was roomier inside, and it also offered his customer either a 60” bed or a long box with 70” bed. A base model V6 crew cab Colorado starts around $30,000. Even at a base model it will come with automatic transmission, power windows and locks, tilt, cruise control, a backup camera, OnStar. “It’s a good looking truck,” said James. One of the dealership’s clients special orders the Chevrolet Colorado from Cronic for their fleet of 75+ vehicles. He says his customer can tell who drives a Colorado and who is driving a full size truck just by looking at the fuel bills. The Colorado is a cost saver. NISSAN

The best way to ensure you get a Chevrolet Colorado is to put a $500 deposit down either on your custom order or on one that is slated to arrive from the factory shortly. According to James, 65% of purchases of the Chevrolet Colorado at Cronic are being made that way right now. Lucky shoppers may be able to test drive one that is not pre-ordered. Custom orders allow drivers to choose exactly what they want on their Colorado, from color to features. It typically takes 12 to 15 weeks for a custom order to arrive. Among the things this Chicagoan has grown to love as a result of being married to an Alabamian (besides his charming southern accent) are some of the best marinades I've ever tasted; Dale's Steak Seasoning and Big Bob Gibson's White Sauce. With Dale's, much like that slogan from another staple in southern cooking, a certain named hot sauce, I put that -- err-umm -- stuff on everything! Steaks, pork chops, burgers, chicken, sloppy joes, and even heartier fish like tuna or salmon. And don't forget to add Dale's to your Bloody Mary recipe - yes, please! A savory, soy sauce-based marinade, Dale's began in Birmingham in 1946, and it's now available in almost every state in the US. I use it in place of soy sauce in every recipe as it has that extra, umami quality that I look for when flavoring food. During the '40s and '50s, Dale's had restaurants sprinkled throughout the southeast as well. I was lucky enough to visit the last remaining Dale’s Steakhouse restaurant -- which was located just across the Tennessee River in Florence, AL before it was rebranded as a Sperry’s Restaurant in 2014. My husband beamed with pride about his home state's contribution to my tastebuds, and we enjoyed every savory bite. The other culinary treasure from Alabama my husband introduced me to was Big Bob Gibson's smoked chicken, with what is now known as Alabama white sauce. I have learned to make the white sauce at home but nothing is as good as the original. Big Bob's BBQ competition team has won multiple BBQ championship cook-offs, and more than 10 world championships. While the chicken is very good, in my opinion, their brisket is outstanding! I have spent the last 15 years looking for better brisket, but I cannot find it. Whatever your taste buds have a hankerin' for, I believe nothing compares to the 'cue at Big Bob's. What's your favorite marinade for meats or veggies? Do you have plans to grill and chill this summer? Have you tried Dale's or Alabama white sauce? Give them a try and let me know what you think. I'd love to swap recipes with all y'all. Blessings and happy summer grilling!

No Limits on Imagination THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE CONTINUES TO GROW, THRIVE AND PUSH THE LIMITS TO CONTINUE DEVELOPING A QUALITY HOMETOWN.
ARTICLE BY PAM REID
Digital art piece created by Courtney Eidson, commissioned and printed on wallpaper by Minuteman Press of Fayetteville
There are a number of exciting things happening in the City of Fayetteville and for City Manager Ray Gibson, a Canadian citizen, that includes taking the oath of citizenship to become an American citizen this past June. Since October 2014, the City of Fayetteville - which will celebrate its bicentennial next year - has benefited from Gibson's passion and experience. Ray consistently lives out his commitment to creating a sense of place for Fayetteville residents, businesses and visitors. "A sense of place to me is a live, work, and play environment that is walkable, safe, vibrant, and economically sustainable with its own unique architectural, social and cultural makeup. In Fayetteville, we will continue to focus on our uniqueness to set us apart from other places."

“We’re excited to see so many people enjoying the amenities with kids having fun and families coming together.”
Under the leadership of Mayor Ed Johnson and the City Council, the City of Fayetteville has been able to develop a strong vision with community guidance. As this vision begins to become a reality, Gibson acknowledges, "We have a long way to go with many more exciting things to do, and more importantly, we want to make sure we maintain and enhance what we currently have and build on what makes Fayetteville unique." The new City Hall is part of the downtown activity center, where the goal is to create meaningful and memorable experiences for all. "We're excited to see so many people enjoying the amenities with kids having fun and families coming together." Two-hundred seventy units are currently being built by Walton Communities - a mix of one, two, and a limited number of three-bedroom apartment homes. Leasing will be set up in Triumph Station. Triumph Station at City Center is being enjoyed by community residents and visitors. Lawn activities are in full bloom with picnics, group exercises, celebrations, music events, and more. There is a splash pad and four pavilions in the park, along with Line Creek Brewing Bus Barn, Scoops ice cream and candy shop, Hog Pit BBQ , and two event venues - Triumph Station and The Dottie. There's also the Hummingbird Room which provides a unique speakeasy experience. Ray would love to see Fayetteville continue to grow and thrive and,

most importantly, stay in line with the vision set out in the City's Strategic Plan including: • A City organization that is futureready, prepared for all events, both positive and negative, and always ensuring fiscal responsibility and economic viability. • An enhanced quality of life that includes three major areas of activity: 1.) Piedmont Fayette Hospital & Trilith 2.) The Pavilion and 3.) Downtown. These may include housing and retail options for all and strong business sectors with each area connected by multi-use path systems. • The City being home to new industries in various sectors that are on the list of target industries, and the expansion of existing industries and businesses, along with more entertainment options within the activity centers/nodes. • Infrastructure - water, sewer, roads, stormwater, trails - that is effectively serving the needs of the community in the most cost-effective manner, and enhances the overall quality of life. • An organization that continues to focus on the development of its greatest asset, its people, and is well known for its commitment to being a highperforming organization. "No limits on Imagination" is what City leadership wants us to know. "We're building a foundation for future generations to build upon and make their dreams reality." A WALK IN THE PARK RECONNECT WITH NATURE AT A NEARBY STATE PARK. ARTICLE BY SUSAN WALWORTH PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
When life is no walk in the park, it’s a great time to take a walk in a park—literally. Fortunately, several great options are a short drive from Fayette County just waiting to offer nature’s stress-soothing amenities.
1. Panola Mountain Stockbridge Explore the pristine, 100-acre granite outcrop. Learn about the rare plants and animals that live in this unusual ecosystem. Bike on the paved trail or hike a forested trail. Picnic beside one of two lakes. Camp at one of five primitive campsites.
2. Sweetwater Creek Lithia Springs Hike 15 miles of trails, many of which follow the park’s namesake. Fish in the 215-acre lake. Learn about the textile mill ruins located in the park. Enjoy “glamping” in a yurt.
3. Fort Yargo Winder Enjoy the 260-acre lake for swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding. Mountain bike or hike more than 20 miles of trails. Experience the history surrounding the park’s 1792 fort/ trading post built by early settlers. Linger on a screened-in porch at a furnished cabin. For more information about these and other Georgia Parks, visit gastateparks.org.

Fishmonger, Bahli Mullins, spent 22 years in the security business where he employed 44 people and traveled the globe escorting dignitaries. Though Bahli loved his job, it was not the most important thing in his life. “My mom had a stroke in September 2017 and I knew I was gonna have to help her to get her back on track. I told my business partner that I needed to be home to help my mother and I left the security business. I took care of my kids, volunteered at their school, and spent time with my family. Then I met a guy who was traveling around selling shrimp out of the back of his truck. I started studying that business and after getting some pointers on how to sell shrimp, I thought, ‘OK, cool, I’m gonna make the jump and see what happens!’” In May of 2018, Bahli began selling seafood wholesale to restaurants. As his business grew, people started asking him if he would consider selling to the public. He saw a need in Fayette County and decided to take another big step. In May 2021 Best Seafood Direct Market opened its doors. “I live in Fayetteville, why build a business in another community? My tax dollars are here, I live here, and I wanted to provide work for people… here. I saw something that was missing in my community and felt I could make a difference.” For Bahli, nothing is more important than family and sharing what he loves with those around him. “We chase boats now. We know when they go out and we know when they’re coming in. We’re there waiting for them every week and bringing the freshest catches back to our community.” What do you want to eat this weekend? Call Bahli and see what he’s got. He will walk you through your fresh seafood experience from start to finish. For more information, go to www.bestseafooddirectmarket.com or call 770-856-4284.

Bahli’s Best Ever Crab Cakes Ingredients: • • • • • • • • • •
1/3 c. mayonnaise 1 large egg, beaten 2 tbsp. Grey Poupon Dijon mustard 2 tsp. Lea & Perrins’ Worcestershire sauce 1/2 tsp. Frank’s hot sauce Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 1 lb. jumbo lump crabmeat, picked over for shells 1 full sleeve of Keebler Townhouse® crackers, crushed 2 tbsp. freshly chopped cilantro (you can use Italian parsley if you do not like cilantro, but it won’t be as delicious, according to Bahli) • 2 - 4 tbsp sweet cream salted butter plus 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil for frying
Directions: 1. In a small bowl, whisk together mayo, egg, mustard, Worcestershire, hot sauce, salt and pepper to taste.
2. In a medium bowl, stir together crabmeat, crushed crackers and cilantro. Gently fold in the mayo mixture as not to break up crabmeat too much. Form into 8 patties.
3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the butter and oil but do not let the butter brown. Add crab cakes and cook in batches until golden and crispy, 3 to 5 minutes per side.
4. Serve with a condiment of your choice.

PEACHTREE CITY ROWING MULTIPLE PEACHTREE CITY YOUTH BOATS ADVANCE TO US ROWING NATIONALS!

Peachtree City Rowing, a metro Atlanta yearround rowing organization, recently competed in the Southeast Rowing Regionals in Sarasota, Florida. The team achieved an unprecedented multiple boat advancement to the US Rowing Nationals June 9th-12th in Sarasota, which attracts over 2000 athletes from across the country. Head Coach Brandon Tucker joined Peachtree City Rowing in early 2022 and quickly moved the organization toward a championship mindset. New training methods and performance criteria have brought the club more in line with the types of teams Brandon and his wife, Becca, are accustomed to leading. “We moved here from New Jersey. We’re

a rowing family. She rowed in college, and I was a coxswain. We later began coaching youth and college levels," said Brandon. “Peachtree City Rowing is a fairly new club that began in 2015. When we got here, we immediately recognized the opportunity to grow a championship-level rowing club. We see it as an area where we can not only develop athletes but also engage in a strong, close-knit community that could support rowing as a way to give kids in the area opportunities." Coach Becca shares, “Brandon’s passion for rowing is unmatched. He was born with a rare heart defect and has had multiple open-heart surgeries, with his first at two days old. Because of his heart, he couldn’t meet the competitive demands of rowing, but that didn’t stop him. He became a coxswain, arguably, the most valuable position in a boat and certainly the most misunderstood. Once a crew has exhausted all physical, mental and technical preparedness, the coxswain can be the sole difference between winning and losing races. Brandon embodies what it takes to make that difference. We live and breathe rowing. His greatest accomplishment in life, after his children, will be his athletes. Everything he does is for them.” Coach Tucker says, “Because we are a nonprofit and the club is fairly new, our kids are working with a lot of outdated equipment and they train inside a tent. Progress on improvements has been sporadic and limited.” The team held a fundraising raffle in December and had been saving to build a boathouse, but rising material costs pushed it back. Commonly in the rowing world, teams have boathouses and boats sponsored by community members and businesses. That’s why you see a lot of boats with names of businesses, individuals, legacy boats, medical, legal groups, etc. It not only provides advertising but demonstrates community involvement. “It’s been a great start to 2022! The performance of the team this season and at Regionals demonstrates remarkable determination and focus by all of our athletes. We are on the national rowing map!” For more information or if you are interested in sponsorship please email coachtucker.rowptc@ gmail.com or visit www.ptcrowing.org.

On just over 400 acres in Fayette County, GA, folks can be found providing support to a group of military veterans, on a high-ropes course with children who are differently-abled, or tending gardens of organically grown produce. A decade ago, Camp Southern Ground was a dream in the mind of global mega-star, Zac Brown. Today, it is a beautiful representation of Zac’s heart for the underserved and for those who have served. Being the youngest of 12 kids and step-kids in his family, Zac was sent to summer camp every chance his parents got. He started at camps in North Georgia at age 7 as a camper, then after college, worked as a staff member. Those camps were designed as inclusion camps; meaning the campers were both neurotypical and neurodiverse, or special needs. The impact that the special needs kids had on the typical kids was what Zac noticed the most. Zac learned the importance of an inclusive environment, and that is what inspired the vision of Camp Southern Ground. The desire to break down barriers and misconceptions about those who are differently abled has been the core of Zac’s mission. Camp Southern Ground is, distinctively, a 4-way inclusion camp. There are 4 intentionally selected "tribes" that come together during each week of summer camp; 1.) neurotypical kids 2.) special needs kids 3.) children of military families, and 4.) underserved youth. During every week of summer camp, each tribe of kids is camping, learning, and growing together. “Since Zac Brown was already a national brand”, said Mike Dobbs, President, and CEO of Camp Southern Ground, “we spent our initial years building the operations with a national focus. That has allowed us to get the programs set up and rolled out. We are now better equipped to serve locally.” They have recently rolled out water safety training for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and are planning more community events for children and their families. They offer week-long camping experiences for both the I/DD population and typically developing kids, ages 7 to 17. Currently, any camper with I/DD will need to be able to communicate and handle their own self-care but there are future plans for providing respite care services CONTINUED >

for more involved levels of disability. “The greatest challenge for the inclusion camp model is to ensure every group is represented equally. Going back to Zac’s experience we want both typical and those with needs to have a great camp experience and learn the benefits of being together. Having kids with I/DD going to camp with neurotypical kids, that’s where the magic happens for both. The perspective you get with these kinds of kids is huge,” said Dobbs. The tuition for a week-long inclusion camping experience is just under $2,000, but most campers don’t pay that. There are discounts for early registration and sliding scales based on income. Veterans and their families also hold a special place in Zac’s heart. Because Zac has been able to leverage partnerships with organizations like the Gary Sinise Foundation Avalon Network and others, including Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank of Home Depot, veterans can come from all over the country at no cost to them. Camp Southern Ground is providing specific, topical support designed around veterans' needs. The Warrior Pathh Program is a full 7 days with an intense 90-day follow-up, and continued support if needed. The Warrior Week Program is a well-being model. “We help vets discover their personal mission and passion and what they’re naturally suited for. We built that one from scratch,” said Dobbs. “If people need services we don’t provide, we’ll put them in touch with the other organizations that can help.”

One of the slogans at Camp Southern Ground is #normalisoverrated and Zac Brown’s heart for veterans and those who are not considered “normal” is worn on his sleeve. In a recent interview, Zac said, “Ignorance is such a tragedy because some never get to be around other kinds of people. When you can immerse someone into all of that variety of culture and ethnicity and background, they come out not being afraid of [differences]. We can help change a child’s life in one week of camp. They never look at the world the same again.” Zac Brown and Mike Dobbs make it clear that the intention of Camp Southern Ground is to build confidence, develop camaraderie, and foster companionship among those who are marginalized in society. They are building a place where being "different" is celebrated. Bags are packed, reservations are made, and the Out of Office automatic reply is letting everyone know you have officially entered vacation mode. There’s one thing that’s lingering: how to go on vacation without pressing pause on the fitness progress you’ve made, or avoid commuting to a gym and paying drop-in fees. Mayhem Athlete provides online programming that guarantees challenging workouts which can be done in 30 minutes or less. These quick but effective workouts incorporate compound movements such as burpees, push ups and lunges. Compound movements use more than one muscle group, requiring more energy from your muscles to recover. This means you can continue to burn calories while enjoying the beach or sitting at work, long after the workout is over. The Mayhem Athlete M30 program offers two options for all fitness levels. Mayhem Bodyweight, a 30-minute format that requires no equipment, and Mayhem Minimal, a 30-minute format which only requires a couple dumbbells. Mayhem Athletes’ easy to use app, SugarWOD, provides you with a warm up, workout, accessory cool-down, and coaching video - ensuring you get the most out of your 30 minutes! You can also find video demonstrations for each movement within the app and a community of like-minded individuals who are doing the same workouts around the globe.
