he Jeep Wagoneer was once a station wagon: boxy, beloved, and often pictured with faux woodgrain sides. Discontinued in 1991, the Jeep Wagoneer was brought back recently as a base model and as the fully loaded Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the epitome of large SUV luxury, says Cronic Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM New Car Sales Manager John Pitts. What’s so special about the Jeep Grand Wagoneer? This model is one of the largest on the market, six inches bigger than a Chevy Tahoe, with the ability to seat 8 people. The luxury surpasses the Cadillac Escalade, with a TV screen for each person, including the front passenger, connected to the internet through on board WIFI, like what you might get on an airplane.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the epitome of a luxurious large SUV. Pre-orders are open now at Cronic Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM.

John Pitts says, “It’s built on the RAM 1500 platform. The interior styling, everything is absolutely mind blowing. This thing is beautiful.” Cronic’s President and Dealer Wanda Cronic Howell is driving a Jeep Wagoneer now. She says, “It’s been a treat to drive it. The Jeep Wagoneer has such style and luxury. But it’s also rugged, and headturning. Everywhere I go people are asking about it. It’s got everything.” The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is in stock at Cronic Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM. Or you can special order one with a designated Wagoneer concierge on site, who will process requests and get customers exactly what they want in trim style, colors and technology. at about $60,800. Jeep Grand Wagoneers start at around $80,000. Cronic’s first order for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer was for a Fayetteville family with three kids under the age of 12. The dad owns his own business and the mom works for an airline. John said the dad researched all the options and knew what he wanted for his Wagoneer. There has never been a Jeep this luxurious on the market. For those that love the iconic Jeep brand, but want bigger and more beautiful, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will deliver. LIFESTYLE LETTER

Gettin' Outta Dodge During the height of the pandemic, in June 2020, my husband bought a brand new Jeep Gladiator from Cronic Jeep in Griffin. We had never owned a Jeep before so I had no idea about the deep connection people feel with their Jeeps. There’s amazing camaraderie among Jeep owners; they wave to each other when passing. And it’s not any old wave, it’s two fingers and the thumb. The fingers go up, either directly off the steering wheel or somewhere near the front corner of the windshield. It’s like a “right of passage” when you drive a Jeep. But it’s not every Jeep, only the cool Jeeps with the 7-slotted grills. The Grand Cherokees and Libertys aren’t in the waving club (sorry, y’all, no hard feelings). The Jeep bug bit me hard. I found myself buying tee shirts that say “Jeep hair, don’t care” and ball caps and bracelets adorned with Jeep grills. I even had a custom Jeep cake made for my husband’s birthday. But the best thing about owning a Jeep is taking the top off and getting out of Dodge for a weekend of off-roading. It has become our favorite thing to do! As parents, sometimes we just need a quick getaway to replenish - to just think about each other. Thank God we have caregivers who are willing to stay with Abby for a weekend here and there so Byron and I can jump in the Jeep and head to the mountains. We get our friends together and GO! Airbnb’s, country inns, hotels... we’ll stay anywhere near off-roading trails and so far have bumbled and bounced over trails and streams in North GA and Alabama. Thankfully, there are lots of places within a 2-hour drive of Fayette County and we plan to hit as many as possible. We hope you enjoy our travel issue this month. If you happen to be in the market for a new vehicle and you have an adventurous spirit, go test drive a Jeep. You’ll be part of a whole new way of driving. You’ll be part of the Jeep Nation, as we say, and I don’t think you’ll regret it. Happy trails!

“We try to have something for everyone: sweet, dry, red and white with a little flare of the South in it.” Roughly one hour from Fayette County situated in LaGrange is Nutwood Winery, a unique spot offering wine, food, music and more in a relaxing environment. Neil and Trish Liechty, along with their children Felicity and Silas Liechty own and operate the winery. This June marks their third anniversary since opening Nutwood Winery, a cause for celebration. “We never imagined we would be as busy as we are but we are so grateful for our customers,” Trish Liechty says. “We hope everyone who comes here enjoys our facility and wants to come back and bring friends.” Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by the historic Greek Revival manor, built in 1833 by architect Collin Rogers. “The property makes you feel as though you have gone back in time,” Trish states. Keep an eye out for Roger’s signature medallion bird above the manor’s entrance and the cantilevered balcony. Today, The Liechty family is bringing modern amenities to guests while preserving the antiquity of this nationally recognized historic site. The winery itself was built using trees from the property. While Neil tends to the vineyard and grounds, Trish and her daughter make the wines. “We try to have something for everyone: sweet, dry, red and white with a little flare of the South in it.” They seek the best fruit and choose the ideal time to harvest. Through each glass of wine, they are giving a memorable experience. White muscadine, peach and butter pecan can be found on the menu, giving guests a true taste of Georgia. The Liechty’s Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Franc Reserve are true delights. This full-bodied wine leaves a lasting impression not only on your palette but in your heart. You will find yourself buying bottles of this wine to enjoy at home. CONTINUED >

Their specialty wine is the Blackberry 36 aged in whiskey barrels. This wine is blended with Muscadine Moonshine which makes it a port-like, strong 36-proof wine. Once blended, the wine is aged in whiskey barrels for six months. If you aren’t ready to commit to a full glass of wine, order one of their remarkable tasting trees where you have a choice of five different wines. Each tree is towering with wine, an art piece in the most delicious form. Wine slushies are another go-to at Nutwood Winery. It’s a trademark that keeps people coming back. Flavors vary regularly, and once smoothly blended, create a unique frozen treat. “Our concept is a little different than your typical winery,” Trish says. “We wanted to make it a place to hang out with lounge areas as well as tables to sit and enjoy.” The family has created a beautiful outdoor ambiance, from the grounds to the patio. Rock away in the rocking chairs on the front porch or enjoy yard games out front. Inside you will find an exquisite wine bar with seating all around. The patio is beaming with essence and ambiance. On certain days guests will revel in live music. The café menu is full of appetizers and light bites, perfect to accompany any glass of wine. The fruit and cheese board and pork tenderloin sliders are just two of the many choices on the menu. The Amish chocolate peanut butter grilled cheese is a must-try, a unique treat at Nutwood Winery. For all of your special events, look no further. Nutwood Winery can be your home for events as big as weddings and as intimate as birthdays. Bridal showers, baby showers, anniversaries and more can be planned with the Liechty’s and they will ensure a special experience at the winery. Don’t forget to say hello to Jolene Rose, the owner’s Great Pyrenees who greets each guest at the property. “We hope we have created a destination for people to come out and enjoy the beauty of the property, and enjoy good wine and food.” I can assure you, they have done exactly that.

A GOLFER'S DREAM ROYAL LINKS GOLF TOURS LINKS GOLFERS WITH UNFORGETTABLE TRIPS "ACROSS THE POND."

ARTICLE BY SUSAN WALWORTH | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

St. Andrews Old Course - Scotland

AT H LE T E LIF E | FITNESS

ROYAL LINKS GOLF TOURS Like many who love golf, Jeff Bartholomew dreamed of playing in the sport’s birthplace—Scotland. “It’s golf’s ‘mecca,’” he said. “It’s where every golfer wants to go at least once in their life.” Jeff realized his dream in 1995 when he took his dad for his 60th birthday. For two weeks, they played 10 different golf courses up and down Scotland. At one point his dad asked, “Why aren’t you taking more photographs?” Jeff replied, “Because I’m coming back.” Jeff kept his word. “I had fallen in love with Scotland and links golf,” he said. “I became a student of the British Isles and the golf over there—links golf— and I’ve gone every year since—multiple times some years.” When friends encouraged him to turn his love of golf and travel into a business, Jeff partnered with his son-in-law, Hayden Moore, and Royal Links Golf Tours was born, offering world-class golf experiences in Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales. It was the perfect venture for both men. Jeff’s dad taught him to play golf when he was about 12. He was on his high school golf team and played frequently while in college at the University of Cincinnati, and later, living in California. Moore, a former quarterback for the University of Cincinnati and the Canadian Football league said, “Golf was my love and passion ever since I was small.” Before Royal Links Golf Tours took others ‘across the pond,’ Jeff lived in St. Andrews, Scotland, the home of golf, for six weeks and developed relationships with golf courses and other vendors. Initially, Jeff admits, it was all about the golf. But eventually,

he realized the most memorable times were those spent off the course. “There’s just a ton of stuff to do over there,” he said. “That’s what sets us apart. It’s not just about the golf, it’s about creating unforgettable golf trips. We are different in that we are all about the experience. We are not just a golf tour company. We recommend several days off from golf to experience the culture of the country they have chosen to golf in. So, we build in stops for traditional Irish or Scottish music, live theater, whiskey tastings, distillery tours, castle tours, guided walking tours of places such as St. Andrews, Dublin or Edinburgh. We offer skeet shooting, fly fishing, tickets to sporting events, dinner reservations, etc. We want our travelers to have not just a memorable experience but rather an unforgettable one.” Jeff and Hayden build bespoke trips— individually customized trips for a minimum of two people up to groups as large as 16 or more. A seven-night trip with five rounds of golf starts at $4,500 and can go as high as $7,500. Jeff explains that price depends on the chosen golf courses with higher-end or famous courses costing more. Although Jeff and Hayden love every links course in the British Isles, Jeff said most people want to play the championship courses. “We steer them to what we call ‘diamonds in the rough’—lesser-known but excellent courses,” he said. Accommodation choices, which can range from B&Bs to five-star hotels, and transportation choices also affect the price. CONTINUED >

Jeff at St. Andrews Old Course - Scotland

ST. ANDREWS OLD COURSE “On these trips, we offer a concierge driver who acts as the tour guide,” Jeff said. “If they elect to self-drive, we have a ‘greeter’ at the airport to meet them and get them situated, acclimated, and ready to drive.” Royal Links Golf Tours also offers several ‘group trips’ each year that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Jeff and Hayden accompany these groups. With Georgia offering so many great golf courses close to home, some might argue there’s no need to travel overseas. While Jeff agrees that Georgia has many great courses, he points out that they are all or mostly tree-lined. “We prefer links golf, which is seaside and treeless,” he said. “You can only do that in the British Isles and a few other remote spots. There are 247 true links courses in the world and 211 of them are in the British Isles. “Golf was started in Scotland and there is something about playing links golf that harkens back to when golf was founded. Some might even say the way it was meant to be played. Also, it’s about the whole experience—the culture, the food, the people’s accents, the driving on the left side of the road.” Can Jeff claim any Scottish ancestors? “No,” he admits with a laugh. “But I feel Scottish.” He is even a member of the historic Moray Golf Club in Lossiemouth, Scotland, which was founded in 1889.

24

AT H LE T E LIF E | FITNESS

ST. ENODOC GOLF CLUB Jeff advises golf tourists to bring their own clubs or have them shipped ahead. But he also warns they should expect a learning curve. “Playing links golf is different,” he said. “In the US, we play the ball through the air, and in links golf, we play the ball along the ground. We do that to avoid the wind which can be heavy over there. Playing the ball low, hitting run-up shots, pitch-and-runs, and putting from well off the green takes some practice, and some getting used to.” Although it’s always best to call for updates, Jeff said the British Isles are opening since Covid. “At the moment, fully-vaccinated travelers can enter the British Isles, and all they have to do is fill out a ‘passenger locator form’ prior to arrival.” When’s the best time to go? “June, July and August are the high season, which means increased crowds, fewer tee times, and higher costs,” Jeff said. “The

high season over there has a lot more sunshine which allows for more tee times, which drives more crowds. Traveling in the shoulder months—April/ May and September/October—is typically a better experience for the golfers. The shoulder season has about three fewer hours of sunshine, so fewer tee times and smaller crowds.” In addition to trips to the British Isles, Royal Links Golf Tours has a trip to Italy planned for this fall. The couples’ trip will include six nights and three rounds of golf in Tuscany between Siena and Florence as well as two nights in Rome with one round of golf at the nearby Marco Simone Golf Club where the 2023 Ryder Cup will be held. All breakfasts and dinners are included as well as tours of wineries, Florence, Siena, and Rome. “It will be spectacular!” Jeff said. PICNIC FOR TWO SIMPLISTIC, LOVELY AND DELICIOUS PICNIC FOR A FINE SPRING DAY. What comes to your mind when the buds start coming out on the trees and the flower bulbs pop from the earth? If you’re at all like me, my first thought is a spring picnic! I can’t wait to get outside, spread a blanket, and share a meal with a friend. My go-to choices are made out of simplicity to make the experience even more enjoyable. I’ve chosen a fresh Cobb Salad Sandwich served with a Cucumber Quinoa Salad, fruit, and a nice bottle of wine to share. To top it off I add a favorite cookie. My choice is Salty-Sweet Butter Pecan. If you need a great place to spread out your tablecloth, check out the new City Center Park or Sams Lake Sanctuary, both in Fayetteville.

Cucumber Quinoa Salad • 1 English cucumber, diced • 2 cups chilled cooked quinoa • 1/2 cup diced red onion • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese • 1/3 cup roughly chopped fresh basil leaves • 1/4 cup olive oil • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice • 1/2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning • pinch of salt and black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS Toss all ingredients together until combined. Whisk olive oil through the salt and pepper together in a small bowl until combined. *This salad is best mixed right before you gobble it up.

From Durban, South Africa to Monrovia, Liberia to the villages of Ghana, Reverend Dr. Adrienne Booth Johnson has created incredibly successful entrepreneurial programs to help improve the lives of women. She knows and understands all too well what it is like to be a teenage mother; to have dreams delayed, but not deferred. Adrienne knew that God put greatness inside her and that she had a calling on her life. As a little girl sitting on the back porch of her home in Louisville, Kentucky, she would watch the airplanes fly overhead and say, “I want to get on those airplanes and go to Africa.” Not really knowing what she was talking about as a child or where Africa was for that matter, in 2001, Adrienne took her first trip to South Africa. The needs of women are different in every country and, according to Johnson, “To empower women, you first have to determine what the need is.” Adrienne would sit in the villages and townships to meet with women and leaders to learn what was needed to improve the lives of the women there. In 2002, she developed a program for Zulu women artisans so they could learn how to market and sell their products. In that same year, Adrienne served as a liaison for local churches in Jonesboro and Atlanta that wanted to provide funding for churches in Durban, South Africa to build multi-purpose programs such as garden programs and libraries. In 2013, Johnson joined a group from Clark Atlanta University on a trip to Monrovia, Liberia. As a retired Coca-Cola executive, she reached out to the President of Coca-Cola Bottling in Monrovia, Seth Adu Baah, and requested a market tour. It was this encounter that lead to the development of the Johnson Women’s Empowerment Program. Eligibility for the program was simple. Adrienne asked local church leaders for the names of women who were looking for a second chance. The women were provided with an umbrella to shield them from the sun, a cooler to keep beverages cold, and Coca-Cola products to sell. Adrienne and her husband, Attorney Joe Johnson, sponsored 50 women to start the program. The number quickly grew to 100, then escalated to 3,500 when the program was adopted by the beverage giant. Seth Adu Baah, a Ghanaian, was so impressed by what Adrienne did for the women in Monrovia, he asked her to visit Ghana to meet his wife Ellen. There, Johnson would learn all about a day in the life of a girl in Ghana. Can you imagine being so poor that sanitary products are considered a luxury? Or, worse yet, as a young girl, being made to feel so ashamed of soiling your dress during your monthly cycle that you take your own life? This is how many families live in the poorer villages in Ghana. Adrienne and Joe, both ministers from Detroit, have dedicated their lives to being catalysts for generational change. Wo Ye Bra translates to “menstrual cycle” in Twi - a Ghanaian dialect. Many girls in the village miss anywhere from five to seven days of school a month. The Wo Ye Bra program addresses absenteeism while empowering women towards entrepreneurship.

BREATHE WELL, LIVE BETTER The program, which started in 2017, keeps girls in school by teaching the village women how to sew reusable sanitary pads. A $400 investment provides program participants with a free sewing machine, fabric, supplies, patterns and micro-funding, as well as marketing, sales training and finance education everything they need to run and sustain their own business. Before the inception of the Wo Ye Bra program, girls experiencing their monthly cycle would often resort to using old newspapers, old rags, or plantain leaves. Missing numerous days of school each month, girls would often get frustrated or discouraged and drop out of school. To date, the Wo Ye Bra program has trained 230 women to make reusable sanitary pads, which have a negligible impact on the environment as compared to disposables. For Ghanaian women - specifically graduates of the program - becoming a seamstress creates opportunities that extend well beyond feminine products. Adrienne visits Ghana once or twice a year to reinforce the basic fundamentals of business, ensuring that progress is made and the businesses remain sustainable. Philanthropist, humanitarian and global entrepreneur, Adrienne wants to change the world one village at a time. Joe Johnson is her biggest fan and boasts, “Adrienne has an incredible ability to connect people and resources to make this stuff happen. That’s the genius of the program. Adrienne has a way of connecting with women to understand their needs and how best they can be successful.” “I believe in entrepreneurship. I think you control your own destiny when you own your own business.” To learn more about this impactful program or to become a supporter, visit woyebra.org.
