LIFESTYLE LETTER

We're 3 Years Old!

November 2022 PUBLISHER

Jennifer Conforti | jennifer.conforti@citylifestyle.com EDITOR

Byron Pugh | byron.pugh@citylifestyle.com

If you had told me 4 years ago that we would be celebrating 3 years of publishing a magazine about Fayette County, GA, I would have straight up laughed in your face. 4 years ago we were busy with my nonprofit and Abby (our daughter with Autism). 4 years ago, I had no clue... like, NO clue how to publish a magazine. Yet here we are. These past 3 years have been unbelievably exciting, and tough, and exhilarating, and like... whew! But what a ride it has been. We've told over 150 stories about people and businesses in our community. Highlighted movers and shakers, influencers, stand-out human beings, and nonprofit organizations serving countless individuals in such amazing ways. In my very first Lifestyle Letter from November 2019, I said, "...my intention is to be a community storyteller. I want to know you, my neighbors, and hear your stories. I want words like 'community', 'inclusion', and 'neighbor' to mean more to us than ever before." Wow, have you come through! I have learned more than I ever thought I would, and as much as I had hoped for. Makes me want even more. I want to thank our writers, photographers, and editors who have helped make us what we are. I want to thank our supportive and wonderful advertising partners, now and over the years, who are the MAIN reason you are able to enjoy our pages. I want to thank my friends who don't get upset when I can't join them for fun during deadline weeks. I want to thank all of the caregivers who have helped with Abby when we are up to our eyeballs in editing. This community. This Fayette County. This has become my lifestyle... and my life is richer for it. Blessings to you and yours as the holiday season kicks into high gear!

There’s no time like the present to make your travel dreams a reality. 16

Travel has always been part of Mandy Pullin's life. Born and raised in McDonough, Georgia, Mandy's mom, along with her brothers and sisters would go on an adventure every year. The car was the primary mode of transportation, as that was the most economical way for their family to enjoy travel and create memorable experiences throughout the Southeast. Mandy didn't have her first flight experience until she was in college. A flight to Denver with the University of Georgia was Mandy's first introduction to seeing the wider United States. The itch to go, to get out and see the world, fuels the passion Mandy has to create incredible, meaningful experiences for her clients. "Travel changes your perspective about a lot of things. You can get to see how other people live in other parts of the world. You start making opinions about that and other things." Mandy was an avid reader as a kid. "I'm a lifelong learner and that goes hand in hand with travel. My quest for knowledge, new places, new input, and new experiences, has always been there. Travel has changed significantly since 2020, and few industries have fallen as far and as fast as travel and tourism. "The COVID pandemic definitely had an impact on travel. It simply nailed the travel and tourism industry. While people have been cooped up for 2 years, they have money for travel. People are recognizing there's no time like the present, as well as what's important. People are no longer putting off family trips, friend trips, and multi-generational trips." Seamless travel experiences don't exist, and you can bet that staffing, inventory, and supply issues have made things more complicated. Everyone - airlines, cruise lines, hotels, resorts are doing their level best to provide services and experiences at their previous levels. While some are doing better than others, DPP Travel - Dream Planning Pros - takes the hassle and worry out of travel planning. As the industry slowly recovers, and you begin to explore travel options, you can trust the travel advisors at DPP to be good stewards of your travel investment.

“It’s just a joy to help other people experience the joy of travel.”

The Dark Hedges in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, were shown in Game of Thrones

Friends and owners, Mandy Pullin and Tiffany Watt

Riding in Costa Rica

Mandy was a brand-new mom when Tiffany, her lifelong friend and now business partner, introduced her to the travel business. "It's just a joy to help other people experience the joy of travel. Whether it's out of state or out of the country. Whatever their emotional attachment to that trip is, I love helping them and hearing the stories when they get back. [I love] sharing in the joy of what they experienced." The secret to success when it comes to travel is planning. Planning early is key, even if it's just a day trip to the beach. "People are planning their trips further and further out, and that's incredibly important as places get booked and fill up quickly." Plus, planning ahead allows travelers to budget for all aspects of their trip. In a post-COVID world, an experienced travel advisor can make all the difference. "They are going to advocate for you.

It's their job to guide you through the process so it's done safely. Also, good travel advisors are going to do an inquiry call with you, get to know you, and listen to your needs and heart's desires. Select someone you can trust." Travel can be as expensive as you want to make it, but you can also have meaningful journeys for very little money. "You have to manage your expectations when budget is your primary limiting factor. Managing expectations regardless of your pocketbook in today's travel climate is really important. Your dollar doesn't go as far as it did, even in 2019." DPP Travel is part of Virtuoso - the travel industry's leading luxury consortium. Virtuoso travel advisors specialize in creating unique experiences you can't find online or plan for yourself. Their connections to properties and itineraries around the

world are unparalleled. DPP travel invites you to connect with them on social media @dpptravel and visit dpptravel.com to learn about the services they provide, as well as their group adventures, cruise adventures, hosted destinations and more. For answers to the most asked questions and problems travelers face, check out DPP Travel's YouTube channel for their Pro Tips series. Email Mandy directly at mandy@dpptravel. com if you're ready to join the adventure. Learn more about their upcoming hosted trips to the Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, Africa, Egypt, and the Galapagos. What's better than travel to help feed your soul and make you an overall better person? Mandy and Tiffany, your Dream Planning Pros, invite you to explore the world with them and see. Their goal is to share wonderful experiences and have lifelong relationships with their clients.

FALL FUN ON THE FARM SOUTHERN BELLE FARM IN MCDONOUGH EDUCATES AND ENTERTAINS WITH SEASONAL ACTIVITIES.

26

M UST SE E | TR AVEL

Whether it’s hopping on a hayride, getting lost in a corn maze or picking the perfect pumpkin, fall is fun at Southern Belle Farm in McDonough. It’s a far cry from the hardscrabble life of J.A. Carter, the sharecropper who scraped together enough money to buy a part of the 330 acres that now comprise the agritourism/educational operation designed to entertain and teach adults and children about farm life and the origins of their food. “We're at least two to three generations removed from the family farm and people do have a curiosity about how their crops are grown and how their food is produced,” says Jake Carter, J.A. Carter’s great-grandson.

One of the popular activities at Southern Belle Farm is the pig races.

SOUTHERN BELLE FARM

This year's corn maze at Southern Belle Farm celebrates the National Champion Georgia Bulldogs

Seasonal activities that include pig races, jumping pillows, you-pick fruits and flowers, and Belle’s Barnstormer—a giant, multi-lane burlap sack slide, draw people from throughout metro Atlanta and surrounding states. “Everything is focused around families coming out spending time together and creating an experience,” Jake said. A fall favorite is the corn maze created with a software program that guides tractors through the four-acre field planted to resemble graph paper. This year’s maze honors the 2021 National Champion Georgia Bulldogs. And while people do occasionally get lost, farm staff is always available for rescues. There’s no doubt J.A. Carter would be amused. “That would be unusual to him to grow a pretty field of corn and then cut out half of it so that people can walk through it,” Jake said. “He would find it interesting that people actually pay hard-earned money to walk through a cornfield.” When school tours visit the farm, it’s Jake’s turn to be amused when the children get their first whiff of the farm and react with ‘Ewwww!’ “They smell smells that they don't smell in the city,” Jake said. And during visits to the dairy barn, when asked where milk comes from, Jake said the kids eagerly raise their hands to say Publix and Kroger. “It's a real opportunity to educate those young consumers,” he said. The farm’s Country Market is filled with seasonal produce as well as jams and jellies made with fruit grown at Southern Belle. Mimi’s Bakery inside the market offers homemade ice cream and other seasonal goodies. Jake remembers the Michigan couple who flew to Atlanta, rented a convertible and drove to the farm just to eat strawberry shortcake. Favored fall treats are fried pies and apple cider donuts. While Southern Belle has evolved through generations of the Carter family, its future rests with the next generation including Jake and his wife Jennifer’s three children—Carson, Kennedy and Coan. They are the fifth generation to grow up on this land and enjoy farm life. “My dad allowed me to develop and change the farm to agritourism, which was a great fit for this community. I want to continue to give the freedom and flexibility to the next generation to decide what it will be, Jake said. For more information about Southern Belle Farm, visit www.southernbellefarm.com

There are no strangers at ENZO, only friends you have not yet met. A talented trio with individual experiences and expertise in the fashion, food, and technology industries, comes together with one heart for a unified community. Executive Chef Andrea Montobbio, Chef de Cuisine David Gibbs, and ENZO's President Carmine Noce agree that food - really good food served in a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, are what makes the fellowship and experiences we share with friends, family, and community neighbors, rich beyond measure.

ENZO, a northern Italian-inspired, chef-driven steakhouse and bar, boasts a unique approach to cuisine that marries Italian culinary traditions with contemporary sensibility, creating a cultural dialog between Northern Italy and the New American South. Executive Chef Montobbio explains, "Italian cuisine is regional. It's fresh and always made from scratch. It's unique, crisp, and rich in olive oils. In northern Italy, it's deep with more meat, butter, and reduction of sauces. In southern parts, it is delicious with seasonal vegetables, fresh seafood, lemon and capers. In order

to create the right balance, you have to hit every part of Italy. This is what we are bringing to diners at ENZO." ENZO officially opened the doors to its striking red building with outdoor patio seating and outdoor walk-up bar, this September in the Town at Trilith - a community designed for the film and creative industries that feature filmmaking studios, homes, shopping and dining, trails, and parks. Chef de Cuisine Gibbs is excited to be part of ENZO's unique endeavor to share wonderful new foods and experiences with the community. "We are authentic in who we are and what we bring to the community. We are authentically introducing new flavors to everyone's palate. You don't have to go to Atlanta." The experiences being offered at ENZO attract people from far and wide. The emphasis from its inception is for ENZO to be a lifestyle brand that includes art, fashion, film, catering, and more. A place where people can visit, relax and be themselves is at its core as described by ENZO's President, Carmine Noce. "Everything we do has to be for the people, not just our guests, but for the servers, cooks, and bartenders, which ultimately translates to what the community experiences. We want to give our team purpose and passion to go beyond what they are doing here with us." ENZO launched a private membership option, the Me & ENZO Club, that provides members with exclusive benefits. Opportunities to enjoy advanced notice and discounts on annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly events, preferred seating, catering discounts, travel events, and more. ENZO also has a philanthropic arm that extends its reach by donating a percentage of membership proceeds to local charities. One such charity, Two Sparrows Village, is a nonprofit organization that is providing residential and day service programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. When Carmine, Andrea and David heard about the mission of Two Sparrows Village, they were compelled to create this partnership. They believe playing a part in supporting the most

vulnerable of our community is the right thing to do. ENZO will be providing the food for the Two Sparrows Village Bird Bash in November, right in the heart of Trilith at the Town Stage. ENZO's website, www.enzo-itl.com, is where you can learn about other uniquely delicious experiences through ENZO Catering. Whether you are looking for weekly home delivery, planning an office party, or just want to tantalize the senses of a large group or a small private group, ENZO at Home, ENZO Private, and ENZO Pronto are impeccably designed chef-driven options certain to elevate your event. At ENZO, the power of food and its ability to bring people together is demonstrated every evening when they open their doors at 5:00 pm. Carmine believes, "Food is as much the occasion, location, and company as it is about the taste." ENZO is located at 300 Trilith Parkway, Suite 230 in Fayetteville. A place for which you make more than a reservation, you make friends. Noi non potremo avere perfetta vita senza amici. (Translation: "We cannot have a perfect life without friends".) A CULTURE OF CARING

JONATHAN AND LESLIE WADE LEAD BY EXAMPLE WHEN USING THEIR GIFTS, STRENGTHS AND OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE THEIR CLIENTS AND COMMUNITY. ARTICLE BY PAM REID | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Personal injury law and family law come together under one practice at Wade Law Offices in Fayette County, Georgia. More than 70 years of combined experience has contributed significantly to the success of the practice, as well as consistently favorable outcomes for their clients. Atlanta natives Jon and Leslie Wade met fresh out of law school, and as destiny would have it, the young lawyers married exactly one year to the day of their first encounter. This year the Wades celebrate 34 years of marriage, and both can attest to the benefits of a lifelong commitment to love, fortitude and focus on business, and a philanthropic approach to community impact. Leslie's natural and unquenchable desire for learning, problem-solving, and high-level engagement has not waned throughout her career, and Jon's desire to right the many wrongs he sees in the way of injustices still drives his passion today. While the reasons for pursuing a profession in law differs between the two, Jon's and Leslie's motivation to continue practicing law for more than three decades has everything to do with who they are at their core - good stewards of what they've been given to make the world a little bit better place. Wade Law has established and cultivated a culture of caring - having the freedom, flexibility, and willingness to help citizens in a way that extends beyond personal injury or family law matters. Leslie emphasizes, "We care about our clients. We care about what their needs are. We care to empower them to get what they should have, especially when it

comes to healthcare on the personal injury side, and when it comes to time with their children, and being okay financially going forward on the family law side. But it is also a culture of caring when it comes to the community." Jon concludes, "That in essence is the foundation of a culture of caring. The response is always, 'How can we help?'" Jon and Leslie have a heart for people. They recognize that the legal matter that brings a person to their offices, is most often only a slice of what is going on in that person's life. The client could be dealing with a chronic illness, managing the responsibilities associated with being a caregiver, you name it, and the legal matter is the straw that breaks them. Leslie acknowledges that, "People come to see us at the worst time of their lives." Wade Law treats each case with personal attention. The most rewarding experiences for both Jon and Leslie are the cases where they can look back on their client's lives and see clearly the positive impact they've had. As a local, young professional attorney in the mid90's, it was not hard to get plugged into the Fayette community. Leslie was primed to serve on local boards and had wonderful experiences with several organizations - raising funds, organizing events, painting, giving time, talent and treasure, and serving in many other capacities. Jon and Leslie have deepened their community footprint over the past 26 years. Their eyes light up and they finish each other's sentences when they talk about service and the meaningful engagements that have made a difference in

their lives thus far. Woven from the same fabric, the Wades were raised in homes where service to others was modeled and encouraged by their parents. Leslie recalls her first mission trip at the age of 15 with the Appalachia Service Project, and Jon recalls, "Going to local charities with mom, and helping with food and clothing was really important. That's what we were expected to do." Even when the two were dating, they served together. Leslie begins, "We had been dating only 6 weeks," and Jon finishes, "and for our first Thanksgiving with Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry, we helped feed and pass out clothing before having our own Thanksgiving dinner." Today, Jon and Leslie are involved in all kinds of charities. They routinely encourage their staff to share a need that they are aware of, or a charity that

is near and dear to them. It is not unusual for Wade Law to close the office for the entire team to volunteer time to support a local charity. The Wades believe they have an obligation to the future, and to be an example. "We aspire to be something that others would respect." Jon shares his advice for the younger generation. "None of us are promised riches. What we are promised is enough food for today - our daily bread. Don't worry about the money. Money takes care of itself. Keep giving and it will come back to you." Wade Law has two offices in Fayetteville. The practice is fully staffed with paralegals, case managers, an office manager, and a marketing and development professional.
