ronic Chevrolet Buick GMC salesperson Gary Coley sold five Buick Encore GX SUVs last month. And he’s only one on the team. Why is this crossover SUV so popular? “The Buick Encore GX is extremely comfortable with quiet tuning, so it has the feel of a luxury car without a luxury car price and has fuel economy at 30 miles per gallon,” said Gary. “They’re going to start in the mid to upper twenties. Fully equipped will be in the low thirties.” Gary said, “It’s very efficient and peppy. You won’t have any trouble merging into traffic or passing because it’s got a turbocharged engine.” The Buick Encore GX is a completely

different model than the Buick Encore. According to Gary, the Encore GX is a little bit larger. “It’s got a little bit more luggage room in the back. It will be quicker. They’re both going to give you very quiet rides, but the Encore GX will have upgraded features like wireless, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.” Last month Gary sold to a retired airline pilot and a young couple with a toddler. The pilot purchased the Buick Encore GX after doing research on the exact features he wanted. He was upgrading from a Buick Encore to the Buick Encore GX. “He’s extremely happy. He just sent me a super review,” said Gary. The young family “came in for an Equinox but liked the styling of the Encore GX. After

They liked the comfort level and how nimble it was.” The Buick Encore GX technology is impressive – Alexa, OnStar and WiFi that can connect to 7 devices. “With OnStar, you’ll have automatic crash response. If your check engine light comes on it can do incident analysis. If the vehicle is stolen, they can report a location to the police and literally slow the vehicle down or disable it to make it easy to catch.” For details or to test drive a Buick Encore GX visit Cronic Chevrolet Buick GMC, only 25 minutes from Fayette County, or croniccars. com to begin shopping from home.

MIXOLOGY IS CRAFTING COCKTAILS AT THEIR FINEST
ARTICLE JACKIE BOEHEIM PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
MIXOLOGY IS AN ART WHERE INGREDIENTS AND FLAVORS ARE COMBINED BEAUTIFULLY. Creating cocktails is a skill that is honed by professionals behind the bar. We mix it up with Matthew The Curious Pig and Curious Kitchen & Bar. EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BARTENDER AND A MIXOLOGIST? The creation side of things. With mixology, there’s a presence of creating things from scratch. Making syrups and cordials that you can’t get at a store or any other bar. Being a bartender is pretty basic, you’re making things that you can get anywhere. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN A COCKTAIL. Balance.

that’s booze-heavy, over-sweetened or has too much citrus and I’ll show you a poorly executed drink. All flavors and components are harmoniously dancing in your brain, and when you can get that at a bar it is truly amazing. DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE DRINK TO MAKE? The classic daiquiri is the epitome of balance. The daiquiri is a formal way of shaking your hand through a beverage and saying, “Hey, this is who I am as your bartender.” It tells you how this person is going to make your next drinks.

5 EASY WAYS TO MINIMIZE SUGAR AND SALT Consuming more than the recommended amount of salt (1 tsp) and sugar (25 grams) a day negatively impacts our overall health. Studies have shown a high intake of sodium and sugar contributes to a poor immune system, plaque buildup in the ar teries, high cholesterol, and chronic inflammation. These five actions can help minimize sugar and salt and keep the body healthy, especially in the winter months: 1. Add flavor with fresh herbs, spices, citrus, and natural sweeteners instead of salt or condiments such as ketchup and barbecue sauce packed with sodium and sugar. Salsa, mustard, and hot sauce are also options lower in sugar. 2. Buy fresh or frozen produce instead of canned vegetables and fruit because food manufacturers use significant amounts of salt and sugars to preser ve and sweeten their canned products. 3. Minimize bread as most bread is full of salt to help the dough rise and is high in sugars.

GIVING BACK
THE GOOD DOCTOR DR. BYRON HARPER III RALLIES FOR PEOPLE’S HEALTH AND THEIR FUTURE BEYOND THE SCIENCE OF MEDICINE.
NO ONE WANTS TO BE SICK. Illness can rob us of everyday joy and precious time with our loved ones. Couple pain and suffering with the inevitability of mortality and the future may look pretty grim. But Peachtree City Internal Medicine physician Dr. Byron Harper III claims it does not have to be so. If we make the right choices now - to better our lives - we probably won’t have to face the foe of poor health in the future. The doctor’s philosophy is preventive medicine but his practice goes beyond the science - it rests on relationship building, communication, and education between doctor and patient, with the ultimate goal of healthy and happy living. Harper III is a second-generation, people-loving person. His father was a Georgia physician who was directed by steadfast faith and belief in helping the sick and the underprivileged. Harper II was also the founding father of The Children’s Village at Christian City, a nonprofit that provides shelter, hope and healing for children in need. “I saw relationships that my father had with his patients and I wanted those,” shares Dr. Harper III. When he was just 12 years old, the Harper family moved to Fayetteville. Harper reminisces that his mom (now 94) was his dad’s most ardent cheerleader. Rose Marie Harper was Fayette County’s first female commissioner advocating for better living conditions for her local community. With his mom’s “bulldog” attitude and his dad’s unwavering commitment to treating and healing the sick, a natural career path was paved for young Byron. He felt called to be either a preacher or a physician just because of his deep love and understanding for people. In 1983, Byron Harper III graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. After a short partnership stint with his dad, the young doctor set up his practice in Peachtree City, and has been treating and healing patients here for the last 30 years. Visits come with a range of ailments - from the common cold to diabetes, heart issues and nutrition challenges. Through the MD/VIP-affiliated model, Dr. Harper offers a personalized health care plan that focuses

When his mother needed benefits, Daniel’s father struggled getting help from a lawyer who saw him only as a dollar sign. “Seeing what my parents went through gave me a passion to help families in the same spot,” he said. And when the Campens’ daughter Adaline was diagnosed with autism and ADHD, Daniel became passionate about helping families with special needs children. “If you have a child with special needs who may be on public benefits in the future, it’s vitally important to have a plan that does the right things—if you don’t, your child could lose their benefits when you pass away.” CONTINUED >

FAMILY LEGACY Since Daniel believes people are more than their money, he offers a family wealth legacy interview. Through video, audio or a letter, clients memorialize things they don’t want to die with them. “It’s so important to build something into your plans about who you are and what you want your legacy to be,” he said. A legacy also ensures that trustees or guardians carry out your wishes—from giving advice to a daughter before her wedding or to an 18-year-old who wants to travel Europe instead of going to college, to telling the story of a special heirloom. MORE THAN A WILL A good estate plan includes a host of documents that many wills do not—power of attorney, medical power of attorney, a HIPAA release—everything to protect you or your estate if you become incapacitated or pass away. At a minimum, Daniel says everyone over 18

HOW CHEF PAULI REEP (AKA GIGI) MAKES FOOD, AND LIFE, MORE FLAVORFUL.

Fayette County Lifestyle | October 2021
In what Pauli believes was a divine appointment, a woman approached her at a catering event and asked, “So, what’s your dream job?” Pauli didn’t know the woman, but openly shared her dream of going to people’s homes and cooking for them. The woman identified herself as a chef and gave Pauli a set of videos that she herself was not going to use. The videos were from the FOR ONE LOCAL CHEF, THE ART OF PREPARING, COOKING,

Chef Pauli Reep has been cooking and blessing others with what is truly her gift. Born and raised in Ohio, and the youngest of five, Pauli paid close attention to the woman who had tremendous influence on her ability to get things done, and done well. Pauli’s mother consistently modeled what it would take for her to do what she does so well - create and serve. Her mother recalls when Pauli was five years old and told to set the table for hot dogs, she pulled out her mother’s prettiest little dish and put mustard on it and set it on the table. Pauli admits, “It’s not a struggle. I always watched my mom. She gave me the basics and the foundation.” She adds,
must-try + Balsamic glazes - delicious on Brussel sprouts, asparagus or green beans. + BellaVitano cheese - merlot, espresso blend and rosemary options are delightful. + Gourmet salts - Lavender, Hawaiian, Himalayan, ginger Szechuan and Lava to name a few. + Marcona almonds - so delicious.
“And yes, I just love beautiful plates and table settings. Presentation is a big deal.” In the ‘80s when cheese fondue and profiteroles were the party favorites, Pauli - having established a solid reputation among friends - was catering parties for friends with her own food and flair. Pauli reflects back on her high school years when she baked birthday cakes and other special occasion cakes for her friends. She graduated to making wedding cakes and believes it was the parties hosted at her home that led to requests for special dishes and ultimately her catering business. “It was not intentional, but God-given.” Pauli wants God to get all the glory; not just for her culinary gift, but for everything she has. “He’s given me the desire. It comes easy to me. It always has, and that’s a gift.”

Chowder Nig ht ARTICLE PAM REID

I GREW UP ON GOOD FOOD. I don’t mean expensive or quality food, I mean good-tasting food. My mom and her sisters gathered often to cook the most amazing meals. The pots were so big, filled with the makings of something we could hardly wait to dive into. Even as kids, my siblings, cousins and I knew that what we ate was not common in most households. We could always hear laughter while they cooked and wondered what could have been so funny. My mama used to make this soup and in our home when something was extraordinary, our saying was, “Mama put her foot in that!” This is a foot-in recipe.

Creamy Crab Corn Chowder + 1 pound bacon, julienned + 2 cups chopped yellow onions + 1 cup chopped celery + 1 cup diced carrot + 1 1/2 teaspoons salt + 2 bay leaves + 3/4 cup all-purpose flour + 10 cups chicken stock + 1 1/2 pounds new potatoes, diced + 2 cups fresh sweet corn kernels + 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning + 2 cups half and half + 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley + 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce + 1 pound fresh lump crab, cooked In a large nonstick stockpot, cook the bacon until the pieces are crisp. Remove bacon from pot to a paper towel-lined plate and set aside. Stir in the onions, celery, and carrots. Season with salt and bay leaves. Saute until vegetables are soft and tender. Stir in the flour and cook for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in the chicken stock and bring to a boil. Add the potatoes, corn, and Old Bay. Stir and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Stir in the half and half and parsley. Simmer for 5 minutes then add Worcestershire sauce. Add the lump crab and stir gently until the crab meat is throughout the soup and warmed. Enjoy every mouth-watering bite!

illnesses and those lives claimed by the virus. One thing that the Covid 19 virus has taught us is that life is fragile and it’s more important now than ever to prepare for the unexpected consequences. Let's face it, no one really wants to think about life insurance, much less pay for it, but if anyone depends on you financially, it’s a topic that really shouldn't be avoided. Life changes and priorities shift, but one thing stays the same—how important family is and our desire to protect them. That’s why protecting our families financially is key. Covid may be here to stay but in the meantime, we have to focus on staying safe, loving our families and living each moment to the fullest.
