Let’s Celebrate the Ladies

I don’t know about you, but I love any opportunity to recognize and lift up women who just make life positive and beautiful.

And of course, with Mother’s Day this month, all eyes are on moms, but it’s not just the biological mothers, mother figures and wonderful women in our lives who have made an impact on us. It’s the family members, teachers, friends and neighbors doing awesome things in our communities, pouring into our lives - making themselves unforgettable and irreplaceable.

Personally, without those female influences like my mother, step-mother, grandmothers, aunts, friends, business partners, and team members – this magazine would not even exist. They’re a huge part of how it all began and how it will continue to grow.

While it’s always important to shop local, this month is the perfect time to support businesses owned by women in Edina and beyond. That’s one of my favorite parts of this role – trying to champion, recognize, give back and pay as much forward as possible.

For the May issue, we wanted to provide a variety of fun for the ladies! We have some suggestions on where to brunch, how to make an impact for Mom, a guide for gifting ideas, plus info on Origin Meals, a great local food subscription service which will save the family time in the kitchen.

Women are movers and shakers, builders and makers. They are both seen and unseen. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to send a text, make a phone call or get the family on a video call with the women in your life who deserve recognition. It only takes a minute to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much you love them.

Community Based Hockey Continues to Thrive

Edina Hockey Association’s Bantam AA won the State Championship in March during a double overtime game. The team, comprised of 8-9 grade students, traveled to different cities, ending in Rochester where they swept their region outscoring opponents 19-0 in 3 games to qualify for the state tournament. The volunteer coaching staff, piloted by Ryan Elbing, led the Hornets to a record of 48-5-3. Thank you to team sponsors, Gary and Susan Wahman, and volunteers.

When I think of the word brunch, I imagine fruity drinks, delicious breakfast foods and being surrounded by my best friends or even better - my mom. I can admit that yes, I’m a brunch girly and yes, I’m proud of it. I mean brunch is incredible! For one, you don’t have to get up super early and still can eat all the egg dishes and croissants you want. And for two, it’s a meal best served alongside your favorite company.

I love treating my mom to brunch. We get all dressed up, listen to some epic music on the drive, eat the best food and have deep chats. My mom gives the best advice, and I could stay in her company for hours.

One day in particular that we always go out for brunch is Mother’s Day. It’s a great way to kick-off the festivities and make mom feel special. As this fun filled day approaches, I thought I would share some of my favorite places to brunch in the area. These aren’t all of my favs, but I will say they made the list for a reason.
