Home. So much contained in that small word. Home is our grounding. Our base. Our launchpad. It’s where we start and end each day, and while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning it holds is invaluable. Sometimes, it’s not even a physical place, but more where your heart is. As we thought about our March “Home” issue, the Edina Lifestyle team wanted to highlight a bit of a spectrum. From something as simple as framing art, all the way to décor, renovation, and even complete remodeling. We feel extremely lucky to be able to learn more about the businesses and individuals that help make our community home a special place. Doug and Teresa Williams, owners of The Closet Factory, are long-term Edina residents and community members. They were excited to tell us about everything they have to offer and how they can help create the spaces of your dreams – not just closets! We also checked in with At Home & Co. on 50th & France. This wonderful design studio is a beautiful space for creative ideas, and their team can help transform your space into perfection. And, Kristen Stammen of Twin Cities Siding Professionals shares how their family and staff have been giving back to community while protecting and improving exteriors for years. If a major project isn’t on the horizon, check out locally owned Framing Solutions and owner Susan’s unique approach to framing art for your walls. Even the small changes can make a big difference. Edina is a special community where home extends beyond family to include neighbors and friends. As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you’ll feel encouraged and connected to the people around you - in your city, in your neighborhood, and most all of - your home. Every month, we hear from readers who keep this magazine for longer than just the month on the cover. Comments are everything from coffee table art or reminders of projects they want done or places they still need to visit. Our team feels proud to create a resource that is valued in our community, and we will continue to strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thank you for letting us be a part of your home.

From Design to Install: Closet Factory Has Got You Covered

150% THRILLED ARTICLE BY SARAH KNIEFF | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANDREW VICK
When Edina couple Theresa and Doug Williams became owners of Closet Factory in 2021, they knew they had made the right decision. “Our goal was to find a business where we could both use our backgrounds and have fun while working together,” Theresa said. “We looked at many opportunities and kept coming back to Closet Factory.” The duo brings years of experience in sales, marketing, advertising and management to the company. Closet Factory originally opened in 1997 and since then has expanded its home organization systems from closets to something for every room in the house – wall beds, laundry room cabinets, entertainment centers, pantries, garage shelves and more. The Williams’ location also has a showroom. “People can visit our showroom and see versions of all the different spaces we design in a variety of colors and styles,” Theresa says. “We’ve really tried to make a unique guest experience. We are constantly updating our showroom with the latest designs and accessories in
home organization. Accent lighting is the hot trend in closets and there are several ways to incorporate smart lighting in your space.” To start the process of a dream closet, people can request a free in-home consultation where a designer will measure the space, inventory storage needs and help create the perfect custom solution. “Our designers take great pride in their work,” Theresa says. “If you are creating a closet, they will ask how you fold or hang your clothes, measure how many items of each category you have and attend to all those fine little details. If you are creating or updating a home office, they ask how many files you want to store in cabinets and what computer equipment you have.” After the collaborative design process is complete, the layout will go to Closet Factory’s in-house manufacturing shop where everything is custom made. “We work with the highest quality materials and purchase as much as we can from Minnesota or Midwest companies,” Theresa says. “We also partner with a lot of exclusive brands to deliver superior results.”

Once the system has been fabricated, Closet Factory’s installation team will secure it safely on the customer’s wall. “Our team from designers to installers are just incredible,” Theresa says. “We are like a family here.” The whole team’s goal is to have each customer be 150% thrilled - not just satisfied. “It’s incredible to see people’s faces light up after their system is installed,” Theresa shares. “It’s truly rewarding, and I want to do a fantastic job, so clients call us when they are ready for their next project.” Now over two years as owners, the Williams’ still love what they do. “You know it’s awesome being the owners because we can bring our dog Nemo with us every day,” Theresa explains. “When our three kids are not at college or working, they are interested in learning about the business too.” Their children grew up in Edina and Theresa said she wouldn’t have it any other way. “Doug and I love our community,” she says. “We have amazing neighbors and our whole family has made lifelong friends in the area. I have lived in quite a few different places, but Edina is something special. Oh, and we just love the nature trails!” The whole family has always been active in their community. The kids have played for many local sports teams and enjoyed the programs at St. Patrick’s Church. Theresa was president of the Edina Youth Softball Association and coached for years. She also served on the Edina Early Learning Center board. For more information about Closet Factory, visit closetfactory.com or stop by the showroom located at 1991 Annapolis Lane, Plymouth. BRINGING UNIQUE INTERIOR DESIGN TO THE
TWIN CITIES 22

Nestled along 50th and France, At Home & Co. has been a staple of the Edina shopping district for years with founder Suzanne Haugland at the helm. “For every client, Suzanne and the team have always wanted to create a unique space that speaks to them,” co-manager Mollie Loechler says. Suzanne had always been “at home” in the interior design world. Starting in 1983, she opened several stores to bring new styles to the area. After name changes and expansions, At Home & Co. opened in 2013 with a full design crew that concentrates on tailoring interiors to the lifestyle of their clients. It also has a retail storefront that carries an assortment of furnishings, home decor and gift items. Last fall, Suzanne unfortunately passed away from cancer,
leaving behind a legacy that her team and board of directors plan to continue. “It was her passion and talent that brought so many grand memories to her clients, friends, and the Edina community,” the board of directors say. “Suz and her late husband, Gene, were instrumental to what we see and know 50th and France as – a wonderful destination for all. Her energy, spirit and talent will be greatly missed by many.” Today, At Home & Co. is owned and managed by her trust. Designers Amy Westerberg and Mollie Loechler are running it with the support of the trustees and board. “We do not plan on changing the basis of the business,” Amy says. “Suzanne had a wonderful thing going and we want to honor that while adding growth through

our different divisions. She was incredible with design and supporting her staff, and will be greatly missed.” Amy and Mollie started working for the company as designers eight and 10 years ago respectively. “I love what we do,” Mollie says. “Every client is so different, which means each project is a new challenging task to work on. I really like connecting with clients and collaborating on their dream spaces.” Amy adds, “It really is special. Every space is a reflection of the client. Our retail side of things is very fun too. A customer can come in anytime, and know that they can get quick design advice and be able to take home pieces that will give them immediate satisfaction.” When partnering with an At Home and Co. designer, everything is overseen for the client. “Our initial in-home consultation includes measuring and photography of the space,” Amy says. “We discuss how the space will be used and who will be using it to determine needs. We ask in-depth questions to learn about their design aesthetic. We then create floor plans to scale and research product selections before having the client in for a formal presentation. We are extremely collaborative so that each client is getting the look they love and that it is unique to them.” Mollie adds, “There is more collaboration when the actual construction/designing process starts. We also schedule all the appointments needed for the project, including painters, plumbers or electricians. If a client has a designer that they like to use who isn’t on the At Home & Co. team, this can be accommodated through a trade program. “Outside designers can partner with us and they will have access to over 400 vendors without the hassle of sourcing through multiple showrooms,” Amy says. “They can use our resource library and design studio, and our design project manager will oversee pricing, ordering, tracking, receiving and any unforeseen issues. This is an invaluable service saving designers tremendous time and money.” Other builders, contractors and realtors can also utilize this service via partnership. “Many companies do not have their own design staff, but still want to give their clients the option of working with one,” Amy says. “We can be a help in keeping outside clients on track from construction decisions to finished plumbing, lighting, flooring, hard surfaces and hardware.” Whether it be interior design, outside partnerships or shopping decor retail, At Home & Co. has got their clients covered. As the team looks toward the company’s future, they all agree it is bright.

Call the Professionals! BEAUTIFYING HOMES AND ENRICHING COMMUNITIES ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI

In 1994, while Kristen Stamman was studying for her MBA at Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, she was introduced to the concept of running her own business, specifically in the construction industry. She was intrigued and asked her then fiancé, Terry Stamman, if he would be interested in working alongside her. He had already completed four years of Bible college and a few years of law school, but the idea of being entrepreneurs together sounded interesting to him. Then in 1995, Terry and Kristen co-founded Twin Cities Siding Professionals, and 28
years later, it’s still going strong by offering many exterior home improvement services. They and their experienced team, many of whom have been with them for years, are experts in James Hardie siding, Marvin windows, GAF roofing and manufactured stone. Twin Cities Siding Professionals is the largest James Hardie Elite Preferred Remodeler in the upper Midwest. It is also a Marvin Authorized Replacement Contractor and a GAF MasterElite® Roofing Contractor. “Our goal is to have 100% customer satisfaction, so we’ll do whatever it takes to make people happy,” says Terry. “We have a zero-defects policy, which means if our

quality control guys see that something was done wrong, they don’t ask me if we should redo it; they just redo it.” This is one of the reasons the company has won several awards, including the Better Business Bureau Integrity Award twice! While providing outstanding customer service and high-quality products, Kristen and Terry also ensure that their employees feel valued. “One of the things I’m most proud of is that we’ve provided really good opportunities for our family of employees to grow and develop into wonderful leaders in their own right,” says Kristen. “We’ve developed this really cohesive team who
all work hard together for the satisfaction of our customers.” One of these employees is Tom Lee, a resident of Edina for over 22 years and one of the company’s senior project designers for the past 13 years. With more than 30 years of design build experience, he specializes in custom designs tailored to the client’s personal tastes and end goals. With vast product knowledge and design background, he brings a wealth of information to provide both value and return on investment to maximize remodeling budgets. “Whether the project is big or small, the devil is in the details,” says Tom. “The key

is finding someone to work with who will listen and provide multiple design options because these are typically one-time investments.” Tom and his wife, Lisa, have three children: Anders, Alexis, and Courtney. All three attended Edina schools, while Anders was a three-sport athlete for Edina High School. Anders is currently captain of the New York Islanders Hockey Team. “Anders has a local charity called Kancer Jammers, which is a hockey team I play on along with my daughter and her husband,” says Tom. “Kancer Jammers supports children and their families who have been impacted by cancer.” Kristen and Terry, who live in West St. Paul, also make giving back a priority. Terry has been on the School District 197 school board for the past eight years, and volunteers his time at local schools. His favorite volunteer activity is with Branch Out Academy. “Branch Out Academy is a place for developmentally challenged adults who just graduated from high school,” says Terry. “They go there for a three-year program and learn how to really assimilate in society. They learn how to live alone, how to get a job and how to work. I go there a couple of times a week and hang out with them. I love it!”

Kristen has also been highly involved in donating her time. “My role is more behind the scenes, whereas Terry is in the classroom,” she says. “I’ve been the treasurer at our kids’ elementary and middle schools and managed the boys’ various school and club soccer teams.” Terry and Kristen have also spent many years running silent auctions at their kids’ schools. “That was a big thing for us,” says Kristen. “We raised a lot of money for our school district over the years from all of those different auctions.” The couple have two sons: J.T. and Jake. Following in their mother’s footsteps, J.T. is already attending Carlson School of Management and Jake will be heading there in the fall. Twin Cities Siding Professionals donates extra products to Habitat for Humanity, has done charity installs of siding for a variety of organizations, and much more. “As we have grown over the last 28 years, we have not lost sight of what matters the most,” says Terry. “It’s a lot easier to go home at night, eat dinner and go to bed knowing that we have done what we promised to the people we work for. Making people happy is what we do, and when you have good people helping you accomplish that, you’re going to have high personal and customer satisfaction.” For more, go to TCSidingProfessionals.com. 5 Hot Trends
ARTICLE BY HALEY WILLIAMS PHOTOGRAPHY BY J.A. STENGER PHOTOGRAPHY
in Kitchen Design A peek at what’s ahead: bold cabinet colors, statement hardware and swaths of stone.
When designing your dream kitchen, it’s important to balance timeless features with elements that reflect your personality and design aesthetic. You may not plan to remodel your kitchen each year (does anyone do that?), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t creative ways to keep your space feeling modern and fresh. We spoke with interior designer Brooke Cover about the trends in kitchen design she’s seeing this year, touching on everything from cabinet colors and lighting to tile and countertop combos she’s loving.
TA K I N G T H E C O U N T E R M AT E R I A L U P THE BACKSPLASH Although the iconic subway tile backsplash is timeless in its own right, Brooke says she is seeing a big shift toward marble slab backsplashes — which add drama and depth to the kitchen. Not only is it easier to clean than tile, but a marble backsplash and countertop also sets the tone for the entire space and makes a big statement.
HIDDEN STORAGE, VISIBLE APPLIANCES
Brooke’s Pro Tip:
Gone are the days of it being a given to hide the fridge behind custom cabinets. Many brands of appliances are so beautiful and sleek these days, homeowners want to see them rather than hide them behind a cabinet facade. Small appliances, however, are another story. Custom cabinets and “appliance garages” aren’t going away anytime soon. Form and function make them a desirable addition to any kitchen.
I suggest viewing countertop slabs in person vs. a small sample piece because each slab has unique movement and colors. They are all so beautiful and works of art. Taking a trip to the warehouse will really help a client to understand the different types available and see the difference in the look of the material.

WA R M I N G U P THE WHITE We doubt the classic white kitchen will ever completely go out of style, but trends show people are going away from the white kitchen and gray cabinets. They’re opting for white mixed with warmer wood tones, dark greens and blues. Some homeowners are mixing vintage in with the new and modern through butcher block islands or other unique cabinetry choices. Black is making a bold comeback in some kitchens, while others usher in warmth through painted islands or other darker contrast tiles in the bar area. You don’t have to leave behind the timelessness when you warm up your space if you opt for equally timeless black and wood-stained accents. If you want a quick refresh, consider adding pops of wood through cutting boards or other decor accents on countertops or open shelves.
BOLD H A R D WA R E Mixed metals and sizes are having a moment in kitchens across America. Brooke says not to shy away from a variety of sizes of pulls and handles, depending on the drawer and door size. For instance, you may see a mixture of longer pulls on larger drawers and square knobs on smaller glassware cabinets - and that’s more than just ok - that’s recommended. As the heart of the home, kitchens shouldn’t feel sterile and hyper-coordinated - they should feel inviting and tailored to the space. Since no two kitchens will be exactly alike, feel free to boldly mix the hardware sizes and styles to the needs of your kitchen.
C O N T R A S T, C O N T R A S T, CONTRAST! From painted and stained islands to dark lower cabinetry with bright white uppers and mixed lighting fixtures, contrast is the name of the game this year. You’ll see this juxtaposition between clean white and darker colors or even this year’s favorite - greens and blues - all over newly designed kitchens. You’re not breaking any rules by coordinating sculptural pendants over the kitchen island with more vintage-inspired gooseneck sconces over the standalone bar or a chandelier over the eat-in kitchen.
