“Home is the nicest word there is.” – Anne Shirley

Dear Eden Prairie Lifestyle reader, A lesser regional magazine publisher would preface his annual Home edition with some treatise on the importance of housing. “A roof keeps you dry,” he might write, “and a floor saves you from stepping on bugs barefooted.”

I am no lesser regional magazine publisher, however. I publish to a sagacious readership, who inhabit a climate that would quickly kill them if they didn’t exercise proper precaution, and whose names appear on address labels. In short, they are already intimate with the notion of homeownership.

So let’s skip all that. Let’s instead imagine a conversation two treemen might have had one million years ago.

“Look at that, Ogg,” said Grogg, gesturing with his hand like no one had ever done before. “There, set into the base of that cliffside. Looks to be a fairly large cavity. D’you reckon we could … you know … live in that thing? Instead of in trees?”

“What? You mean that cave, over there?” asked Ogg. “Hmm. Well, I suppose we could give it a shot. Maybe fill it with snarky talking dinosaurs doubling as household appliances.”

“I hate to break it to you, Ogg, but dinosaurs have been extinct for dozens of millions of years,” said Grogg. “We shouldn’t even know what they are, let alone share a concept of ‘household appliances’ given how you and I are inventing the ‘household’ as we speak.”

“Quite true, quite true,” agreed Ogg. “But Grogg; let me ask you something. If we’re no longer living in trees, what should we call ourselves?”

“I’m sure we’ll sort something out,” answered Grogg. “But let’s go inside already. There are a lot of bugs around here, and I’m tired of stepping on them.”

“Just one more thing,” added Ogg. “That gesture you made earlier – the one where you extended a finger to identify a point of interest. What do you call it?”

“Oh!” Grogg exclaimed. “I hadn’t really thought of that. It just sort of came naturally. Why don’t we call it … ‘Grogging.’”

And that, dear reader, is how Grogging was invented.

As always, I would like to thank all of Eden Prairie Lifestyle’s sponsors, without whose generous support we could not mail our magazine directly to our readers’ homes. I always welcome any feedback or interest you may have in appearing on our magazine’s pages!

PLATZKE

REAL ESTATE GROUP

The U.S. government is estimated to have spent a grand total of around $318 million in 1890.

In 2025, Platzke Real Estate Group hit $338 million in volume; an astounding five hundred seventeen homes, bought and sold.

Am I implying that Eden Prairie’s number one home-selling team is now a greater economical force than the entire U.S. government was only a few years ago? I am – and you will agree that I am correct, so long as you employ a very liberal definition of the word “few,” and overlook the effect of inflation, and otherwise resist the urge to apply logic to my comparison.

“We had hoped to hit the $300 million, five hundred homes mark for the past few years,” said Ryan Platzke. “It was an ambitious goal, and that we managed to exceed it while tariffs, market uncertainty, and higher interest rates dominated the news is no small feat. It’s just the encouragement our team needs as we set our sights on an even loftier goal: $400 million and six hundred homes in 2026.”

Is Ryan an optimist? Without question. But he is no Pollyanna.

“We’ve certainly got the momentum we need to do it,” said Ryan. “First and

foremost, that comes from our team. Our forty agents are all at the top of their game, and equally dedicated to doing what’s right by our clients.

“A lot of that boils down to sharing the right attitude. Show up. Be on time. Answer phone calls. Respond to emails. Move quickly – or ‘speed to lead,’ as I call it. Don’t be an Eeyore. Smile . Be the best version of yourself, and your client will know you’re on their side at the end of the day.

“Ninety percent of residential real estate is done by ten percent of its agents. If

presentation were all that mattered, that wouldn’t be true.

“Platzke Real Estate Group is Coldwell Banker’s top team in Minnesota because we work hard to make it that way. For example, suppose you told one of the ninety percent of agents that you would like to buy a home in Bearpath, or some other neighborhood where there are almost never listings. They would probably wish you the best of luck. But if you say the same to someone on our team – and an MLS search doesn’t do the trick – then they’re going to start pounding the pavement.

"We are a member of the world’s largest real estate brokerage – and have all the technological, marketing and networking advantages to show for it."

“They’ll consult our vast network, and see if anyone knows of a homeowner who has expressed even a murmur of interest in selling in the foreseeable future. They’ll also go fishing: mailing, calling, and paying visits to homeowners to inform them that they have a great buyer ready to go. Those combined efforts are the main reason why one out of three homes we sell will never so much as touch the greater market.

“Sincerity and enthusiasm could only have gotten us so far, of course. If I get to call Platzke Real Estate Group a ‘powerhouse,’ then it’s only because of the nation-leading marketing we have fine-tuned over the decades. Zillow.com. Homes.com. Realtor.com. We spend around $100,000 per month on those and other forms of advertising. I’m especially proud of our partnership with Zillow, which grants us exclusive access to buyers who are interested in 55344, 55346 and 55347, allows us to test pilot all their newest programs, and honors me with the

distinction of being the sole Minnesotan on their Agent Advisory Board.

“Platzke Real Estate Group has only just gained an even greater edge. Thanks to Coldwell Banker’s recent acquisition by Compass, we now share the same ownership as Century 21, Sotheby's International Realty, and The Corcoran Group. In no uncertain terms, we are a member of the world’s largest real estate brokerage – and have all the technological, marketing and networking advantages to show for it.

“I’m excited. I’m bullish. This year is promising lower interest rates, more inventory, and a better economy, and Platzke Real Estate Group is poised to ensure that you get the most from it. Even if you’re only entertaining the notion of selling your home, I encourage you to reach out and let me know. The real estate glass isn’t half full these days. It’s overflowing!”

WINDOW OUTFITTERS &

Garage Floor Outfitters

THE TWIN CITIES’ FINEST WINDOWS, DOORS & GARAGE FLOORS

Do you want your home to be more secure, energy efficient, and easy to maintain? Just remove all its windows and doors. It’s that simple!

There are some drawbacks to this. You will encounter some difficulty telling when your bird feeder is running low, for example, and retrieving the latest copy of Eden Prairie Lifestyle from your mailbox will be downright impossible. You may also have to deal with whichever soft-spoken psychiatric professional your family members hire to go and speak with you. But the money you save on Windex and welcome mats will be … well, it will be something.

On second thought, perhaps you’re better off upgrading your windows and doors, with help by none other than the Twin Cities’ leading authority on such things. I am speaking of Window Outfitters, of course!

THE WINDOWS

Fiberglass, by Marvin. Wood clad, by Weather Shield. Storm, by Mon-Ray. Window Outfitters supplies and installs premium windows by several of America’s leading manufacturers. But if you were to ask founder and owner Bob Davis to reveal his favorite, he would tell you it’s the company that has made Window Outfitters one of its precious few platinum dealerships in the Twin Cities, as well as its Authorized Certified Installer here.

“Twenty-four years in the business have taught me an important lesson,” said Bob. “If you want the very best lifetime-warrantied wood vinyl, wood laminate, or true wood window your money can buy, then you have to go with ProVia.

“ProVia is based in Sugar Creek, Ohio. The Amish who own it are profoundly committed to quality and customer service – two values that just so happen to be near and dear to my heart, too. I’m proud to say that ProVia products currently account for around eighty percent of our business, and that figure is poised to go up in years to come.

“ProVia has made it possible for Window Outfitters to keep up with skyrocketing demand for triple-pane glass. It’s sought after by homeowners who want greater peace and quiet, virtually zero condensation, and a noticeable reduction in their energy bills. Plenty of other window manufacturers also offer triple pane, but ProVia is the only one I trust to create the heavy-duty hardware the heavier glass requires.”

THE DOORS

Go to Window Outfitters’ expansive showroom in Savage and you’ll find much more than just windows. “It’s also where we showcase a wide variety of exterior doors, with an emphasis on ProVia,” said Bob. “That same Amish craftsmanship produces steel and fiberglass doors that are just as handsome and rugged as they are energy efficient. They’re available with oak, cherry, mahogany, fir, knotty alder, and other realistic wood finishes, and they’re well suited for any style of architecture. That level of customization is one of the reasons why Window Outfitters is frequently chosen to repair homes on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Another reason is our own craftsmanship. Window Outfitters’ in-house installation team combines peerless skill and state-of-theindustry technique to ensure that our work withstands the tests of time and Minnesota’s vilest weather. I thank them for winning us multiple Angie’s List Super Service and GuildQuality Guildmaster Awards, as well our clients’ universally positive Google reviews.”

THE GARAGE FLOORS

It’s something every Minnesotan homeowner dreads having: a cruddy garage floor. Our roadways’ copious salt and grit are in constant battle with poured concrete – but you can win the war by placing one decisive phone call to Bob’s other business.

“Garage Floor Outfitters has perfected Slide-Lok’s pure polyaspartic treatment,” said Bob. “It’s so much tougher than any hybrid or epoxy alternative that it often earns us business from commercial and light industrial spaces. Just as importantly, it’s attractive: available in any color and with any chip finish, so you can remodel your garage exactly as you envision.

“No dream garage is complete without the perfect cabinetry, either. That’s why Garage Floor Outfitters designs and installs bespoke cabinets which look just as at home in a garage as they do in any laundry room, utility room, or other workspace.”

THE CALL TO ACTION

“WOW! I’m more eager to revitalize my home than I have ever been before,” you are now thinking to yourself. “I believe I’ll pay a visit to Window Outfitters’ full showroom at 12605 Creek View Avenue in Savage very soon – or, barring that, calling (952) 7466661 for Window Outfitters or (952) 908-9888 for Garage Floor Outfitters to request a free-as-sunshine estimate from a locally owned company that stands behind every door, window, and garage floor it provides.”

Little Blind Spot

Shades • Blinds • Shutters • Drapery

I admit to having exquisite taste. I’m sure you could do the same. To us, envisioning the perfect interior space – complete with window treatments that elevate it to the pinnacle of good taste – comes easy.

But here’s the problem with visionaries like you and me: when it comes to execution, we often find ourselves getting a little flustered. Actually finding the perfect shades, blinds, shutters or drapery can prove frustrating, if not outright impossible. And installing them in a way that doesn’t embarrass your home? Equally so.

That’s why I thank goodness Little Blind Spot of Hopkins is here. Bring them your vision, or have their expert design services help your vision take form. They’ll give you the royal window treatment either way.

“My longtime colleague Bill and I recently sold the software company we had spent twenty years building,” said Mark Johnson, co-owner of Little Blind Spot. “We weren’t sure what our next venture should be, but we both knew we wanted to switch things up by creating something tangible; something people could see and appreciate, as opposed to little electric ones and zeros.”

“Mark and I went through big home improvement projects during that hiatus,” said Bill Osteraas, co-owner. “I moved from the suburbs to South Minneapolis. Mark did a complete renovation of his home in Excelsior. It was fortuitous, then, that we would both really get into redesigning living spaces at that time.”

That Little Blind Spot would go up for sale right when Mark and Bill had awakened their inner Property Brothers? Even more fortuitous still.

“We loved everything about Little Blind Spot right away,” said Bill. “The great brand, name recognition, and reputation for customer service it had cultivated since its grand opening in 1978. Its stress-free start-to-finish window treatment consultation, design and installation process. Its existing staff, who are already the best in the Twin Cities at their respective specialties, and whose installation professionals share over four decades of experience between them. The unbelievable number of people we already knew, who turned out to have been happy Little Blind Spot customers in the past. Everything pointed to our perfect next business!”

“Bill and I are a couple of old … actually, let’s say ‘experienced’ entrepreneurs,” said Mark. “We recognized everything great about this opportunity, but we also saw how much we could improve on it. That began with a full showroom makeover, transforming a space that had grown

frumpy ages ago into one befitting of a luxury car dealership. (It’s now the chicest spot in Downtown Hopkins, if I do say so myself.) Next we helped our staff expand their perception of our services; not merely designing and installing custom window treatments, but looking for any way our process can create greater value, right down to offering couch pillows to match new drapery. We’ll soon elevate our customers’ experience even further by incorporating virtual design into our services – a huge boon to our clients who are remodeling remote vacation homes, and only have photos to share with us.”

“Little Blind Spot’s long-established partnership with Hunter Douglas is here to stay, though,” said Bill. “Their products’ quality, functionality and variety are all without equal, and perfectly in keeping with the luxury our brand is synonymous with.

“Hunter Douglas’ expansive selection of shades, blinds, shutters and drapery guarantees the perfect fit for any property. Maybe you’re just refreshing your bedroom or living room. Maybe you’ve replaced every window in your home, and

now need all the right finishing touches. Or maybe you’re updating a commercial space, and want to make a great impression on your own clients. From traditional draperies to ‘automagic’ electric blinds with full Wi-Fi integration, Hunter Douglas provides it all.

“Motorized window treatments have come a long way, by the way. Instead of replacing eighteen double-As every other month, you’re now recharging a lithium-ion battery once or twice a year – or not, with a hardwired option.

“So much variety might have overwhelmed our clients were it not for our in-house design service,” said Mark. “That begins with a complimentary consultation, where one of our experts visits your home, learns how you live and what you expect from your new window treatments, and advises the styles, fabrics, and motorization options that will complement your living space best. Once you’ve accepted our proposal, we’ll have completed the installation within just a couple of weeks.

“We believe window treatments should never be an afterthought. They are too central to creating the right mood in whichever room they accentuate. They may be decor, but at the end of the day, they are also an emotional decision. We give something so important the care it is due!”

Visit Little Blind Spot’s newly updated showroom at 17 8th Avenue South, Hopkins Monday through Saturday, 10am-4pm. If you don’t schedule your free consultation in person, call (952) 935-4353 or visit LittleBlindSpotMN.com today!

Pedego Twin Cities

Get Off the Beaten Path

Hills. Distance. Legs that weren’t exactly built for the Tour de France. Any of these could have spoiled an otherwise exquisite bike ride … if you weren’t gliding happily along on a Pedego, that is.

Pedego – America’s largest private e-bike retailer, which has dealerships in Eden Prairie and Mendota Heights –removes every barrier to the perfect bike ride. Hop aboard any of their cruiser, cargo, commuter, fat tire, or mountain bikes and shoot off with the twist of a throttle. Let the battery do all the leg work, or meet it halfway by pedaling. With pedal assist, Pedego’s largest battery can gobble up sixty miles of level terrain on a single charge, easily.

“Our two top-selling models meet the needs of most Minnesotans,” said Tony Gaffney, owner of Pedego Twin Cities. “The Interceptor – a stylish, laid-back cruiser – offers the exceptional acceleration, long range, and user-friendly features sought after by commuters and recreational riders alike. The Boomerang is similarly well-polished, and showcases the easy-mount step-through design many senior riders find to be the most comfortable. (It's probably no coincidence that it’s named the ‘Boomer ang’.)”

And Pedego’s only getting better. Now that it shares ownership with Urtopia, Twin Cities bike trails are ushering in a new era of carbon fiber and high technology.

“We are now offering Urtopia e-bikes in addition to the Pedego lineup,” said Tony. “They are featherweights! Several weigh as little as thirty-six pounds thanks to their state-of-the-art carbon fiber frames, which represents a forty percent weight reduction over some Pedego models. All Urtopias come with built-in GPS navigation, which can pinpoint the e-bike’s location and lock it down remotely in the event of a theft. Urtopia e-bikes also include a one-of-a-kind torque sensor that transforms any amount of rider effort into the smoothest, most natural ride to date.

“I expect Pedego to begin incorporating Urtopia technology into its lineup very soon. But for the time being, we’re proud to offer both brands right here in our Twin Cities stores.”

LET’S RIDE

You’re no Luddite or reprobate. You embrace thrilling new tech wholeheartedly, and would never dream of nipping someone else’s e-bike just so you could take it for an experimental spin around the block (only to apologize profusely upon returning it to its rightful owner, of course). How, then, do you experience a Pedego or an Urtopia in action?

“Come to either of our dealerships and try one out!” invited Tony. “Our full lineup of e-bikes is available for test rides, including Urtopia’s popular Carbon 1 Step-Thru. You’ll be amazed by how powerfully yet comfortably so light an e-bike handles. Other available test models include the moped-inspired Pedego Moto, the traditionally designed Pedego City Commuter, and the Urtopia Carbon Fold 1 – the smallest and lightest e-bike on the market at just twenty-nine pounds.”

Want to make a proper outing out of your inaugural e-bike excursion? Make it a group activity.

“We offer hourly rentals in addition to test rides,” said Tony. “Come with a group of any size. Once we’ve matched each rider to their ideal e-bike, we can put together a customized route that takes you through scenery you probably haven’t seen yet, even in your hometown. Alternatively, you just can tell us where you would like to go and take off. It’s total freedom like only an e-bike tour can provide.”

The family adventure. The company teambuilding exercise. The zen solo trip: just you perched atop electrified lithium, zipping over curve and plain without a care in the world. They’re all yours to enjoy with Pedego Twin Cities’ help.

Pedego Eden Prairie is located at 9719 Valley View Road; Pedego Mendota Heights, 1355 Mendota Heights Road, Suite 180. Learn more by calling (612) 827-5000 or visiting TwinCitiesBikes.com today!

It’s What’s on the Outside That Counts

The Parthenon. Les Misérables. The moon landing. Grilled cheese sandwiches. Whenever I’m feeling negative about the state of humanity, I remind myself of its greatest achievements. Faith in us always comes rushing back to me.

But of all mankind’s feats, perhaps none ranks higher than populating a landscape only slightly more hospitable than the moon. I am speaking, of course, of Minnesota, where the weather is like a giant cat with teeth of ice, claws of wind, and perhaps some other body part that can be analogized to humidity.

And your house? It’s the mouse.

Your home’s exterior is under constant assault by the great meteorological tabby. Fortunately, it also has a stalwart ally. Trinity Exteriors stands on guard to keep its roof strong; its siding, pristine; its windows, unflawed; and its gutters prepared for when it rains cats and dogs.

“I’m fortunate to have been preceded by Ted Swanson – Trinity Exteriors’ founder and previous owner, whose North Star has always been great customer service,” said Johnny Grant, president. “He envisioned a contractor that makes exterior remodeling and repair go as smoothly as possible. That informs homeowners exactly what’s going on at their homes, and stands behind

it. That actually answers their phone calls. A contractor that truly takes every worry away from its clients.

“And that’s exactly what Ted built.

“Since our foundation in 2007, Trinity Exteriors’ area of operations has grown to encompass the Twin Cities and Rochester areas. I believe our growth is a testament to our unparalleled client experience, and a process that delivers the greatest possible return on a homeowner’s most valuable investment.

“Our people, of course, are our most important asset. I’m happy to say that still includes Ted, who stayed on to focus on business development. The majority of our other team members have been with Trinity Exteriors for many years, and they all share the experience, drive, accountability and courtesy which set homeowners’ minds at ease.

“You’ll begin noticing the difference the moment you reach out to us for a free consultation. Our experts will take genuine interest in your ideas for an exterior remodel, pay careful attention to any areas that may present an issue in years to come, and tell you everything they know in plain English. You’ll feel zero obligation to partner up with us. You’ll just really want to!

“Our first steps go way beyond that initial walkthrough. Thanks to the power of our Home Visualizer, we can show you a realistic rendering of what your home will look like once we’ve completed its makeover. Don’t like the color of the shingles, or the style of the siding? We can easily fine-tune that mockup until it’s a faithful depiction of your dream home.

“LP. Pella. TAMKO. Almost twenty years in business have taught us all the exterior remodeling world’s best manufacturers. We exclusively install their products on our clients’ properties, and are thoroughly trained to do so in accordance with our industry’s highest standards for quality. No building material is too luxurious for our skilled installers, either. If you want to refine your

home with timeless architectural designer shingles, Versetta Stone siding, and copper gutters, then Trinity Exteriors is the only contractor you need.

“Beautiful and long-lasting results must never come at the expense of our client’s convenience. That’s why we place the utmost importance on communication. If you have a phone, then you’ll only be seconds away from speaking with your dedicated project manager at any given time. They’ll let you know which phase is coming next, and when. They’ll keep you up to date on possible weather delays. They’ll even tell your neighbors about the minimal intrusion our work will create.

“And I do mean minimal. We pride ourselves on keeping a clean worksite, preserving its landscaping, and clearing out whenever the homeowner needs their home to themself. At the end of each day, it’s all about leaving the property better than we found it.

“I’m excited for Trinity Exteriors’ future. I believe the referrals we earn from homeowners, real estate agents, and insurance agents will prove to be enough on their own to make us Minnesota’s top name in exterior restoration. We’ll employ more and more great people. We’ll protect and beautify more and more great houses. And we’ll ramp up our charitable efforts even further by increasing our support for Toys for Tots, Feed My Starving Children, Eden Prairie’s Prop Food Shelf which serves our hometown so well, and many other great local nonprofits.

“I hope you’ll give us an opportunity to show you why we shine. Reach out today for the free consultation that may just transform your home!”

international FLOOR COVERINGS

You'll Be Floored

Joe Pederson, Owner

Does your living room hardwood double as archeological evidence of excited dogs?

Does your kitchen laminate make no secret of the fact that you do not move fridges carefully?

Was your bedroom carpeting installed during a century which you are not presently occupying?

If your answer is “Yes! ” to any of the above, then it is undoubtedly time for:

NEW FLOORS!

But not just any new floors. The perfect new floors, chosen from thousands upon thousands of different options and installed with unwavering attention to detail – or, to put it a different way, the kinds of floors you can only get from Floor Coverings International.

Joe Pederson happens to be two of my favorite species of business owner: earnest Minnesotan, and corporate world escapee.

“I always knew I wanted to go into business for myself. Floor Coverings International gave me that opportunity,” said Joe. “Working with the franchise throughout the southwest metro, including my own community, has helped me accomplish my goals for the past decade.

“Those goals revolve around work that actually matters. Whether we’re partnering with local remodelers or one-on-one with homeowners, we’re doing genuinely rewarding work. After a decade in business, there’s still nothing I enjoy more than standing back and admiring the fresh carpet, luxury vinyl, hardwood, laminate, and tile we install in homes and businesses every day. It’s tangible. It’s transformative. Two things I seldom got to appreciate in my previous career.

“About ninety percent of our clients are homeowners – people who don’t have the time or desire to look through endless flooring options and determine which ones best suit their lifestyle and personal taste. They love how Floor Coverings International simplifies the process, delivering exceptional quality and an outstanding customer experience every step of the way.”

The process starts with a call to (952) 808-1122. Connect with Joe’s team over what you’re interested in, and schedule a free in-home consultation with the Mobile Flooring Showroom. The motorized showcase will deliver thousands of flooring samples directly to your home, along with a knowledgeable expert who will walk you through the process. You’ll see how each option looks in your home’s unique lighting and alongside its equally unique features. You’ll also be under no obligation to buy anything.

“I’ve visited the same homes multiple times without signing a contract,” said Joe. “And that’s okay! Flooring is a big decision. It should be considered carefully, and influenced by whether you have kids or pets, and even whether you’re retired. We’re here to help you make the right choice regardless of your commitment level.

“Once we’ve earned your business, the results will speak for themselves. Our installation teams are second to none – courteous, professional masters of their craft who have worked alongside me for years. They create minimal intrusion, work efficiently, and can complete extensive residential projects in as little as three weeks.

“Our team exclusively works with high-quality materials. Floor Coverings International’s headquarters in Georgia sits near major manufacturers like Shaw and Mohawk, ensuring our access to the industry’s latest innovations and best products.

“They love how Floor Coverings International simplifies the process, delivering exceptional quality and an outstanding customer experience every step of the way.”

“We stand behind our work. In addition to its manufacturer’s warranty, every floor we install is backed by our own two-year workmanship warranty. Even so, if something goes wrong five, ten, or twenty years down the road – and we can reasonably fix it – I’ll want to know about it and make it right.

“Total confidence. Complete satisfaction. Real accountability. They’re all reasons why our customers return to us again and again. You’ll have it all when you give us a call!”

Schedule a free in-home consultation and the Mobile Flooring Showroom will bring the perfect floors straight to your door! Call (952) 808-1122 today, or visit FloorCoveringsInternational.com to learn more.

DON’T SELL YOUR BUSINESS … yet Consult with Exit Factor of Minnetonka before you put all your hard work up for sale! The locally owned consulting firm partners with business owners who want to maximize profitability, increase value, and prepare for a successful exit – on their terms. Proceeding without Exit Factor’s expert guidance is tantamount to leaving good money on the closing table.

And You Like Good Money

“I started out as an engineer, making microchips,” said Chris McBride, president and chief strategist of Exit Factor. “I spent nearly twenty years analyzing intricate systems, making sure they flowed together seamlessly.

“That skillset would serve me well in my next enterprise: an HVAC company, which

EXIT FACTOR

I bought and ran for seven years. I tripled its sales and doubled its profits before selling to a private equity firm. Even so, it was only after the fact that I learned how much more money I could have taken from the sale, primarily by leveraging tax code in ways I hadn’t known were available at the time. A lesson learned the hard way!

“I decided to dedicate my career to helping fellow entrepreneurs avoid my mistakes. After lengthy research, I determined that Exit Factor offers precisely the wide network of experts and proven process that would help me do it best.

“A business may be extremely profitable, but that doesn’t mean it’s in its most profitable condition. Exit Factor analyzes every opportunity to make its owner’s departure as lucrative as possible, which begins by determining its current market value.

“How long has your business been around? Does it face any large risks? Does it possess any unique competitive advantages? Have you established plans to sell it before? Once we have answered questions like those and gathered comps, we’ll have a clearer picture of where your business stands relative to its peers, and where there are opportunities to improve its position in the market.

“Those opportunities may include raising profit margin. That was very much the case when I took over my HVAC company. It had initially fabricated its own sheet metal, despite being able to purchase the same product for one third of our materials and manufacturing costs. That change alone raised the profit margin on new construction from two to ten percent.

Chris McBride, President

“Admittedly, that is only a single example. There are as many solutions to raising profit margin as there are businesses themselves. But once you’ve brought in an independent analyst to examine your own business’s internal processes, you’ll be amazed by how much more profitably it can operate with just a few judicious changes.

“Sometimes increasing profit margin isn’t the answer. Opportunities may instead await in increased sales, more efficient bookkeeping, more effective networking, or expanded marketing. Exit Factor will reveal them all, wherever they are hidden. For example, are you currently doing work that you could delegate, automate, or outsource? Simply doing so can make your job massively easier – and that much more appealing to a prospective buyer when it’s time to sell.

“Our process also identifies the most common concerns with selling a business, so that they can be mitigated before they kill a deal during due diligence or even at closing. Existing contracts and lease agreements often do just that, which is why we pinpoint and rectify them long ahead of time.

“While we optimize your business’s market value, we’ll also begin evaluating your exit strategy. Would you like to hand your business down to a family member? Trade it for another business in an altogether different industry? List it with a broker? Sell it to private equity, or to your own employees? We will help you evaluate your options, develop a strategy, and assemble a team to achieve your best outcome.

“I love fixing businesses, plain and simple. Helping entrepreneurs reap the greatest reward for all their hard work is the greatest feeling in the world – and I’d like to help you to get to greener pastures next. Reach out for a free consultation today!”

REVOLUTIONARY SPORTS

BRINGING THE LOVE OF SPORTS TO ALL CHILDREN

1998. Coach John, fresh out of college, coaching soccer full time. 2001. Coach John, hired to coordinate a neighborhood soccer league in Minneapolis, and then a kindergarten program, followed by a preschool program. Later that very same year, Coach John was chosen by the city’s Park and Recreation Board to coach soccer year round, for a program that would soon become citywide, encompass multiple sports, and welcome five hundred groups annually.

2026. Coach John, now a coacher of coaches, spreading the powers of athleticism, positivity, and teamwork across the Twin Cities.

“And soon, hopefully, across Minnesota, and then someday the whole country,” said Coach John Richardson, founder of Revolutionary Sports, which provides world-class athletic programs for children of all ages to schools, community centers, park and recreation boards, early childhood learning centers, and sports associations.

“Revolutionary Sports is pretty unique among businesses that make it to twenty-five years,” Coach John continued. “We have never been driven by profitability. Instead, our primary goal is supplying as many great coaches as we’re able. The rest kind of just falls into place.

“That commitment makes Revolutionary Sports fairly selective of our team members. If we receive three hundred fifty applicants, only twenty-five will meet the criteria for professionalism, reliability, and genuine ability to connect with kids we require of a leader.

“We’re currently gearing up for growth: improving our administrative infrastructure, and establishing ties with new community partners who want the highest standard of coaching for their children. But as we add more and more full-time coaches to our current roster of seventy-five, we’ll never lose sight of our primary goal.

“I started out coaching the same sport I had played through college. Many of our new hires begin the same way, and become central to the robust single-sport programs we offer. But by following our proven ‘Learn, Practice, Play’ approach, any one of those novice coaches can quickly learn to teach baseball, T-ball, basketball, soccer, flag football, and any other sport they set their mind to.

“Multitalented coaches like those are invaluable. There is nothing inherently wrong with raising a child on only one sport, but I believe their life becomes richer when they play several. It helps them avoid burnout, make friends, and discover new pastimes they’ll cherish long into adulthood. In other words, I believe our renaissance coaches are making the world a better place.

“Remember: the best athletes play multiple sports! Michael Jordan’s stint playing outfield for the Birmingham Barons might not be as memorable as his time with the Bulls, but he certainly proves the rule.

“No matter how big we grow, we’ll never lose sight of sports’ true purpose: fun . That’s not to say we wouldn’t be delighted if someone we coached should happen to go on to play for the Vikings. But so long as they’re engaged and enjoying themself during their precious few years of childhood, we’ll consider our job a success.”

People’s

Organic

Nutritious, Delicious, and Made With

Love

Local. Sustainable. Organic. Fresh . A menu that doubles as a love letter to flavor. Vegan (and meaty) and gluten-free options abound. Succulence sans sanctimony, served by Peoples Organic.

“It’s amazing to think that we’ve been in Eden Prairie for eleven years now,” said Juell Roberts, co-owner. “It was a bit of a slow start. I don’t think locals expected a restaurant like ours to open across the street from Home Depot. But now that we’re fully ‘discovered,’ we know dozens of regulars by their names and orders, and welcome many more familiar faces every day. It’s a joy to have become such a nice town’s local hangout.

“I was raised by a health-conscious mother, whose eating habits wouldn’t surprise me until the real world revealed just how different they truly were. My husband Ray was raised by a food processing plant runner; his father, whose work regularly brought him to local farms. Ray’s upbringing may have been more meat-and-potatoes than mine, but we both found the same love for healthful, authentic food before finding each other.

“Ray and I established the first Peoples Organic in Edina alongside Lynn Gordon, founder of French Meadow Bakery & Café, in 2010. We continue to think of Lynn as a founding member after her departure in 2012. We opened our second location in the IDS Center that same year, and in 2014, Eden Prairie made three!

“We were have been fortunate to operate in the Twin Cities, where people are a little more receptive to healthy fare in general. We haven’t won diners over on principle alone, of course. We serve delicious dishes that just so happen to also be made with organic and locally sourced ingredients. Revol Greens of Owatonna. Peterson Craft Meats of Osceola. Sift, a gluten-free bakery in Minneapolis. Tappers Maple Syrup, a family-owned sugarbush in Northern Wisconsin. They’re just a few of the sustainably managed producers we thank for the quality of our food.

“Ingredients alone can’t open three locations. Only a great menu can do that. Ray and I are unbelievably lucky to have developed one for a man of impeccable taste: Prince, who we were personal chefs to from 2012 until 2016.

“Prince always encouraged us to be inventive, and gave us a special wink whenever he loved our latest creation. Several of Peoples Organic’s current menu items were devised just for him, including our curry, sesame-glazed salmon, and vegan rice crispy bar (his 2am favorite). Just an incredible person to work for, and always a party – especially whenever 3rdeyegirl came over for a recording session.”

The chicken pot pie, nestled in magnificently flaky crust, and rival to whichever cold-day comfort food your own grandmother baked. The wild ahi tuna, in the style of traditional Japanese tataki and sesame dressed to fishulent splendor. The Peterson craft sirloin steak, sliced and finished with a bright salsa verde of parsley, garlic, and olive oil. Every breakfast, burger, salad, sandwich, soup and dessert at Peoples Organic is fit for royalty, Prince or otherwise. They brew a mean pot of organic fair trade coffee to boot – shade grown, and roasted in Le Center, Minnesota.

If you haven’t yet been to Peoples Organic at 990 Prairie Center Drive in Eden Prairie, make your inaugural visit during a special event. There are half-priced bottles of wine every Tuesday evening (or “two-for-one wine,” as I know it). There is live music every Thursday evening. And although every moment at Peoples Organic is an upbeat one, the hours there are happiest Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 5:30pm.

“From our family to yours!”

“We’re a spot where people can meet and be together,” said Juell. “A vibrant third space in an increasingly impersonal world, where you can laugh, unwind, be with your neighbors, and enjoy food as it was meant to be eaten. What’s better than that?” PeoplesOrganic.com

If mental health or wellness is your business, then you already know the chief benefit to conducting it in person.

“It’s the best way to nurture real relationships,” said Talha Baloch, MD, an Eden Prairie psychiatrist specializing in the treatment of mental health conditions, substance use disorders and behavioral addictions. “Telehealth does have its benefits, including expanded access for underserved communities, continuity of care during public health emergencies, and support for homebound patients. Even so, telehealth cannot replace the depth of connection – a cornerstone of mental health and wellness work – that in-person care provides.

Coworking Spaces and Office Share Community for Mental Health and Wellness Clinicians

“In-person treatment is widely regarded as the gold standard for quality care. When I am seeing a patient in person, I can assess vital signs, conduct a physical exam, and notice subtle behaviors or changes that may not be apparent on a screen. These limitations of telehealth are shared across the field, regardless of specialty. For practitioners whose work is inherently hands-on, such as physical therapists, acupuncturists and massage therapists, virtual platforms offer little meaningful substitute.

“I’m also not the only clinician who doesn’t need a full-time office. Solo practitioners, startups, and part-time practices could make better investments than an annual lease. All of them would ideally rent workspace by the hour, or for short, flexible terms, while they grow.

“And they wouldn’t rent it just anywhere. Most coworking spaces aren’t suitable for our intensely personal line of work. Their concrete floors are noisy. Conversation carries through walls. They are filled with mostly good people, albeit not necessarily ones who have taken oaths to safeguard confidential information. And to be frank, if someone is receiving treatment for mental health, then it’s for the better if they aren’t surrounded by modern, corporate interior design. Rather, they would have a warm, inviting atmosphere where they feel comfortable opening up and sharing their concerns. That’s all to say that mental health and wellness clinicians really should practice within a more pleasant and private environment than what’s generally available.”

Talha went ahead and did something about it. He and his wife, Iqra, who is also in the healthcare field, founded Mindful Spaces in Eden Prairie late last year.

“We envisioned the ideal office-sharing community, and built it from the ground up,” Talha continued. “We found a location overlooking Bent Creek Golf Course – quiet, bright, and surrounded by pristine nature. We next hired Danish Teak Classics of Minneapolis to design a warm, welcoming environment using carefully considered, responsibly sourced materials, along with sound-dampening walls and ceilings, all chosen to minimize chemical exposure, reduce waste, and support an environmentally mindful, calming aesthetic.

“Mindful Spaces offers six private offices with large windows, a dedicated room for group therapy, and a flex space for acupuncturists, massage therapists and others who need a bit more room. The space also includes an inviting reception area, individual workstations, printing and secure shredding services, as well as mailbox and virtual address options to ensure your practice projects the same level of professionalism you bring to your work. Mindful Spaces also offers the flexibility you need for your practice, with office space for rent on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis.”

At the time of writing, Mindful Spaces members include Margo Abrams, Psy.D., psychologist and founder of Brighter Side Therapy Services; Amy Cantazaro, Ph.D., psychologist with Timberline Psychological Testing; and Sue Goehl-Manolis, RN-C, APRN, CNP, nurse practitioner and founder of Conceivable Fertility and Wellness.

“Anyone who practices here gains a rich referral network,” said Talha, who operates his own Comprehensive Psych Solutions out of Mindful Spaces. “I personally have asked Margo and Amy for help pinpointing diagnoses of autism and ADHD, which they are both extremely knowledgeable in. I’ve also referred patients who are struggling with fertility issues to Sue, who does outstanding work in that area. Mindful Spaces’ centralized offerings also represent a more convenient, integrated experience for patients pursuing multiple forms of care.

“Mindful Spaces serves yet another pressing need in the healthcare community. Our industry is becoming increasingly dominated by venture capitalists and private equity groups. Their profit-first mentality compels healthcare providers to see too many patients, and spend too little time treating each. By making good workspace available to private practitioners, we’re helping them provide an altogether higher standard of care, and avoid the burnout now plaguing healthcare professionals nationwide. Our ultimate goal is to keep independent practitioners independent.

“I became a psychiatrist because I want to help people, plain and simple. Mindful Spaces is just another extension of that desire.”

Mindful Spaces is located at 7525 Mitchell Road, Suite 315 in Eden Prairie. Visit MindfulSpacesMN.com to learn more!
