Style Is More Than What We Wear

Style is often associated with fashion, beautiful homes, or the latest trends, but I have come to believe it is something much deeper. True style is reflected in how we live, the places that inspire us, the causes we champion, and the way we choose to impact those around us. In this month's Style Issue, you'll discover stories that remind us style is ultimately an expression of purpose. We celebrate Rides to Remember presented by Ferrari of Atlanta, where extraordinary automobiles and elegant surroundings become part of something far greater - a community united in the fight to fund lifesaving childhood cancer research. It is a powerful reminder that generosity and compassion never go out of style. You'll also journey with us to Iceland, the breathtaking Land of Fire and Ice. From towering glaciers and active volcanoes to dramatic waterfalls and geothermal wonders. Its rugged beauty creates a style unlike anywhere else in the world. Nature itself is the designer, leaving an unforgettable impression on every traveler fortunate enough to experience it. Closer to home, we spotlight The Drake House, where style takes center stage with purpose. For years, this beloved nonprofit has empowered women and children experiencing homelessness by helping families regain stability, confidence, and hope. Their annual fashion show is far more than a runway event - it is a celebration of resilience and the strength of a caring community. Finally, meet Mrs. Georgia America 2026, whose platform extends well beyond the pageant stage. Through intentional leadership, she is inspiring others to build fortitude, discover purpose, and believe in their own potential - proof that confidence and kindness are among life's most enduring styles. Thank you for welcoming East Cobb City Lifestyle into your home each month. We hope these stories inspire you to embrace your own unique style - not only in how you present yourself, but in how you live, lead, explore, and leave a lasting impact on those around you. Warmest regards,

Ferrari of Atlanta’s 501c3, Rides to Remember, has become one of Georgia’s most beloved charitable traditions, uniting automotive enthusiasts, business leaders, volunteers and generous supporters to create unforgettable moments for children battling cancer while helping fund lifesaving research.

G IV IN G BAC K | L I FE + C ULT U RE
This year marks a significant milestone as Rides to Remember Track Day celebrates its 20th anniversary, while its annual gala celebrated its fourth year as one of Atlanta’s premier philanthropic evenings. The celebration once again united an extraordinary community committed to giving back, proving that when passion meets purpose, remarkable things happen. The evening benefited CURE Childhood Cancer, Atlanta Ronald McDonald House, and Camp Sunshine - three organizations whose missions profoundly impact children and families navigating the unimaginable realities of childhood cancer. Together, they help advance lifesaving research, provide families with a home away from home during treatment, and create joyful experiences that allow children to simply be children. Childhood cancer remains the leading cause of disease-related death among children in the United States. Behind every diagnosis is a child with dreams still unfolding and a family searching for hope. Every dollar raised advances research, supports families during treatment, and reminds them they never walk this journey alone. At the heart of this mission is Ferrari of Atlanta, whose leadership has demonstrated that a worldclass luxury brand can also become an extraordinary force for good. Nearly twenty years ago, the dealership launched Rides to Remember in honor of a family member diagnosed with neuroblastoma. What began as one family’s desire to create hope has grown into a community-wide movement that inspires Ferrari clients, automotive enthusiasts, business leaders, philanthropists and volunteers from across Atlanta and the state of Georgia to stand together in the fight against childhood cancer. That spirit of generosity extends far beyond one organization. It is reflected in the businesses and individuals who donate their time, talents and resources year after year. SOAR Media has played a pivotal role in bringing the vision of the gala to life, while LLL Event Rentals has graciously donated furnishings and décor since 2022, helping create the elegant atmosphere guests have come to anticipate. Their commitment reflects a sentiment that has always defined Rides to Remember: profound impact is possible when an entire community comes together. CONTINUED >

Although this year’s Gala took place in August, the opportunity to make a difference continues. The celebration culminates with Rides to Remember Track Day on September 26 at Atlanta Motorsports Park, whose longstanding partnership has helped create one of the event’s most unforgettable experiences. Rather than simply admiring world-class automobiles from the sidelines pediatric cancer patients and their siblings climb into the passenger seat alongside volunteer drivers for exhilarating laps around one of the Southeast’s premier road courses. Community members are invited to register to drive, volunteer, or support the mission through a charitable gift. Every act of generosity helps move us one step closer to a future where no family has to hear the words, “your child has cancer.” "For anyone considering getting involved, this is one of the most rewarding events you can be part of. You get to spend time with the children and families who benefit from your support, and you see the impact immediately," says Craig Forbes, General Manager, Ferrari of Atlanta. For a few unforgettable moments, treatments, hospital rooms and uncertainty are replaced by laughter, excitement and memories that families will treasure forever. Beyond the track, loved ones enjoy food, activities and fellowship, surrounded by volunteers dedicated to making every child feel celebrated. "Years of this work has taught us one thing above all else: joy is powerful. For a child in treatment, a day at the racetrack or an evening surrounded by generosity is not a small thing. It's everything," says Olivia Malifa, Managing Director of SOAR Media Agency.

It is easy to admire these extraordinary automobiles for their engineering, craftsmanship and breathtaking performance. Yet on this day, horsepower becomes secondary. What truly matters is the compassion behind every steering wheel, the generosity of every sponsor, and the countless volunteers whose hearts fuel an event that has changed lives for twenty years. As Rides to Remember celebrates this noteworthy milestone, its greatest legacy is not measured in laps completed or exotic automobiles displayed. It is measured in lives touched, research funded, families embraced and hope renewed. Ferrari of Atlanta’s leadership, the generosity of its clients, the unwavering support of community partners, and the passion of hundreds of volunteers have shown what is possible when an entire community rallies around a cause greater than itself. "It's unbelievable that it's been 20 years. The time has flown by so fast. What started as such a small event has grown into something incredible. I'm proud of everyone involved, our company, our charity partners, the children and families, our supporters, and all the volunteers who have helped make it what it is today," shares Craig Forbes, General Manager, Ferrari of Atlanta.
For twenty years, Rides to Remember has proven the most meaningful journeys aren’t defined by speed, horsepower or destination - they’re defined by compassion. In the end, style is about more than what we drive or what we wear; it’s about how we choose to serve others. And perhaps, the most enduring expression of style isn’t found in what we own, but in the lives we touch, the hope we inspire, and the legacy of compassion we leave behind. Charity Spotlights CURE Childhood Cancer has helped increase the pediatric cancer survival rate to over 80% through its funding and support of pediatric cancer research. Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a home away from home for families of ill and injured children who must travel to receive treatment in Atlanta-area hospitals. Camp Sunshine enriches the lives of Georgia’s children with cancer and their families through recreational, educational, and support programs. https://ridestoremember.org/ https://www.ferrariofatlanta.com

Iceland - the Land of Fire and Ice. Upon my first entry into this this rugged country of sweeping vistas and towering volcanoes, I was captivated. Home to just 400,000 residents, it is Europe's most sparsely populated nation, but has more than 800,000 sheep as Icelanders are fond of telling you. The country boasts Europe's largest glacier, covering nearly eight percent of its landmass, along with more than 30 active volcanic systems. Its history is equally fascinating, including the claim that Icelandic explorers reached North America nearly 400 years before Christopher Columbus. Settled by Viking seafarers in the ninth century, it was ruled by chieftains that established what is considered the world's oldest parliament in 930 CE. More on that later. Throughout its history, control shifted between Norway and Denmark before Iceland finally became an independent republic in 1944. My journey began in Reykjavik, Iceland's largest city and the world's northernmost capital. While modest in size, it is rich in history and charm. We visited Hallgrímskirkja, the country's tallest church, along with the Saga Museum and the Settlement
Exhibition, where the remains of a Viking longhouse dating to 871 CE offer a remarkable glimpse into Iceland's earliest days. Yet what captivated me most was the spectacular backdrop of mountains, glaciers, and crystal-blue water. Nature is on full display in Iceland, where every glacier, waterfall, volcanic landscape, and black sand beach creates a spellbinding landscape. And then there was my most interesting culinary discovery: "soup and hot dogs" - a beloved Icelandic staple! One of Reykjavik's essential excursions is the famed Golden Circle. The route begins at Þingvellir National Park, where Iceland's first parliament, the Alpinigi, gathered more than a thousand years ago between towering basalt columns. Here, the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly drift apart by about an inch each year. Adventurous travelers can even snorkel between the continents in the icy waters of Lake Þingvallavatn. I dared not try that endeavor! The Golden Circle also includes Gullfoss, one of Iceland's most spectacular waterfalls, plunging dramatically into a deep canyon. CONTINUED >

Waterfalls seem to appear around every corner in Iceland, especially along the southern coast - waterproof clothing is essential you will get wet. Lunch that day was equally memorable at a tomato farm, Matesdill, where every menu choice, I mean every item, from soup and skewers to pie and ice cream features tomatoes. We ended the day at the Geysir geothermal area, where Strokkur erupts every eight to ten minutes, sending steaming water high into the air against a backdrop of bubbling geothermal pools. After several days in Reykjavik, we traveled south along the Ring Road to the small village of Vík. Established in 1887, it is home to Iceland's most photographed church, Víkurkirkja, perched atop a windswept hill overlooking the village below like a silent centurion guard. Nearby, the famous black sand beaches create one of Iceland's most dramatic landscapes. Formed from centuries of volcanic ash, the beaches stretch beneath towering cliffs as powerful Atlantic
waves crash onto the shore. Horseback riding along these volcanic sands has become one of the area's most popular activities. The highlight of my trip came the following morning when we hiked the glacier covering a nearby volcano. As far as the eye could see there were no trees, no shrubs, no vegetation—only endless fields of black volcanic rock and brilliant white, blue and black ice. I have never experienced cold like I did that day trekking across the glacier and through shimmering blue ice tunnels. It was brutally cold yet absolutely exhilarating. From Vík we continued east to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland's deepest glacial lagoon. Massive icebergs drift silently through the water, sculpted into ever-changing forms by nature itself. Only about ten percent of each iceberg is visible above the surface, making their true size almost impossible to comprehend. Eventually, they float into the Atlantic before washing ashore on

Diamond Beach
nearby Diamond Beach, where the crystal-clear ice sparkling against the black volcanic sand truly resembles diamonds. Words cannot do justice to the beauty captured there. For accommodations, I highly recommend Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon. After a day spent exploring glaciers and enduring the cold, relaxing in the outdoor hot tub followed by an exceptional dinner was exactly what I needed. The final leg on my Iceland adventure was the iconic Blue Lagoon. There is simply nowhere else like it. The geothermal waters—a soothing blend of mineral-rich seawater, freshwater, silica, and algae—create an otherworldly spa experience unlike any I've encountered. Soaking in the warm, milky-blue waters with a glass of wine in hand is a memory I won't soon forget! There are several excellent lodging options around the lagoon, including the luxurious Retreat at Blue Lagoon, home to Iceland's
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
only Michelin-starred restaurant, and the Silica Hotel, where I stayed. The Silica Hotel, only a 10-minute walk from the lagoon, offers its own private geothermal bathing area and full Blue Lagoon privileges. The surrounding landscape of jagged lava fields feels like a moonscape—another reminder that Iceland continually surprises you with scenery distinct from anywhere else on Earth. Iceland is unlike any destination I have visited—and that includes 48 countries around the world. It is a place where glaciers meet volcanoes, history intertwines with raw natural beauty, and every turn reveals a landscape more remarkable than the last. In Iceland, nature defines style in its most authentic form, reminding us that the world's most beautiful designs are often those created by the earth itself. Go experience it for yourself. Soak it all in. Chances are, like me, you'll leave already dreaming of your return!

Drake House Fashion Show Raises Record Funds, Inspires Hope
ALUMNI KIRBY GAVATT RETURNS AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER, PROVING RECOVERY CAN BECOME A PLATFORM FOR OTHERS. ARTICLE BY CITY LIFESTYLE | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALBRIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

Kirby, keynote speaker
The Drake House's annual fashion show has always been more than the runway - it's a night where community comes together to help single moms and their children find stable ground. Their two boutiques are also stocked with gently-loved treasures, designer handbags, shoes, and closet staples waiting for a second life. Bring your gently-used goodies for a donation, shop the racks while supporting moms and kids working toward a fresh start. Nesha Mason, President of The Drake House had this to says: "This is the largest fundraising total in The Drake House history, and it goes further than any one number can show. $207,144 raisied will fully fund 3-4 families through an entire six-month stay in our crisis housing program - housing, case management, life skills programming, and mental health support included. But what excites me most is how it impacts every family already in our care: more career coaching, more resources for our youth, more groceries and essentials through our on-campus market, more of the everyday support that turns a program into a real path forward. This total does more than increase our reach it allows families to move further along their path to stability." "Having an alumna share her story is something attendees look forward to every year. What made this year different is that Kirby didn't just tell her story from a microphone. She walked the runway and became part of the show itself, letting the audience see the shift in her confidence rather than hear about it. It was something to celebrate. Standing in that light means something enormous to a woman who once lived with the uncertainty of being a single mother with no place to live. That's the resilience I see in so many of our moms. They don't just move through this program, they carry each other through it. Kirby is part of a growing community of former residents staying connected through our alumni network, Professional Women's Career Network (PWCN). Recently, at our Pillar Awards, celebrating CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM / E ASTC O BB

families' progress across all five pillars on the path to stability, Kirby spoke directly to current residents, giving them proof of what's possible on the other side of this program." Sharing her story as keynote speaker Kirby Gavatt, founder of The Trich To Stop - a nonprofit supporting people living with Trichotillomania, the hair-pulling disorder - returned to inspire the next group of women to do the same. For Gavatt, Drake House wasn't just temporary housing. "At the time, Drake House meant relief," she says. "It meant I had support, I didn't have to worry about where I was going to lay my head while I strategically came up with a game plan. That gave me room to breathe and think clearly about my next steps." Coming back this year as keynote speaker felt like closing a loop. "It's proof that I took advantage of the tools and assistance Drake House extended to me, not just while I was in the housing program, but even after I left." Looking out at a room full of women navigating the same uncertainty she once faced, Gavatt's message was simple: there's no shame in needing help. "I wanted them to know they are worthy of help and assistance," she says. "Going through a challenging time and seeking out help isn't something to be ashamed of. It's commendable." She encouraged the crowd to keep leaning into the community support around them, "because that support can carry you further than you realize." Gavatt's own path to founding The Trich To Stop started long before she had the language for what she was experiencing. Her hair-pulling began in second grade when trichotillomania was barely understood, and not talked about. "I had to give grace to the people who didn't understand it," she recalls. "I became my

own best friend." Watching people with other disorders and disabilities receive care and compassion she wasn't getting made her determined to change that through social media, sharing her story and creating space for others to do the same. "Many were hiding from the world, carrying an extreme amount of shame that stunted them. I didn't like it, and I refused to let that continue to be our narrative." She also noticed a lack of representation within the community. "I didn't see many people who looked like me representing this condition. So I wanted to change the narrative, on many different fronts." Building a nonprofit with no formal background, Gavatt says, wasn't so different from what Drake House residents are doing right now. "I used whatever resources were available to me, every little thing," she says. Her advice to residents starting over: use everything Drake House provides. She also points to something less obvious - reciprocity. "I offered something I had in abundance, or a service that didn't cost me too much time or energy... It wasn't about taking. It was about exchange." Her takeaway: "Building something from nothing starts with recognizing you already have more to work with than you think."
Kirby Gavatt
If there's one thing Gavatt wishes someone had told her, it's this: "What matters most is what you do with the season of challenge you're in. Turn that challenge into passion, and turn that passion into something productive." She reminded the audience that hardship, once survived, often becomes the very thing that equips you to help someone else. "Every challenging season is a learning experience. And once you've made it through, if the opportunity presents itself, you can turn around and help someone else with the wisdom and experience you gained." For Drake House, she encourages the community to keep donating, volunteering, and spreading the word "so more women in need can find their way there like I did." For The Trich To Stop, she says awareness matters just as much as funding - follow on social media, visit www.thetrichtostop.org, or connect her with schools and organizations for speaking engagements. "Every dollar helps, but so does every share, every conversation, and every introduction." As Gavatt puts it, Drake House and The Trich To Stop are doing work that changes lives in different but connected ways — "one gives people stability, and the other gives people understanding." And a community willing to show up for both, at every stage of someone's healing, is one truly investing in lasting change.

Lindsay Shockey, a North Atlanta resident, spends her days helping bring spaces to life through thoughtful design. As Mrs. Georgia America 2026, she's applying that same intentional approach to helping others build resilience, purpose, and self-belief. "I was inspired by the incredible women who held this title before me," says Shockey. "Through their service, leadership, and dedication, they created a legacy I wanted to continue." The journey to the crown was years in the making. Along the way, Shockey discovered new strengths, formed lasting friendships, and learned valuable lessons about courage and perseverance. Professionally, Shockey has spent her career helping others see possibilities. A licensed and NCIDQ-certified interior designer, she serves as a Hospitality Interior Designer with Sims Patrick Studio. Her award-winning career includes recognition as the 2013 IIDA Best of the Best Award Winner and leadership as a past president of the Georgia Chapter of the International Interior Design Association. Her passion for design extends far beyond aesthetics. "Design is storytelling," she says. "Inspiration can come from nature, architecture, history, or the people around us. Every space has a story to tell." CONTINUED >

That creative mindset has also shaped how she approaches life. Whether she's exploring a thoughtfully designed space or spending time with her four year old daughter, Cameron, Shockey has learned the value of slowing down and being present. "My daughter has taught me to appreciate the little moments," she says. "Sometimes those are the moments that matter most." Community service is another cornerstone of her life. Through her initiative, Constructing Confidence, Shockey partners with organizations that promote leadership and community engagement. Her volunteer efforts include support for IIDA Georgia, Keep North Fulton Beautiful, Community Bucket, Chattahoochee Riverkeepers, and the Atlanta Police Foundation. Balancing pageantry, a demanding career, volunteer commitments, and family life requires intentionality. "One day at a time," she says. "I come from a world of timelines and schedules, so knowing how to prioritize is important. Above all else, I'm a mom first. Making sure my family is taken care of is always the priority." She credits much of her success to the unwavering support of her husband, Clint Myers, and her parents, David and Kate Shockey, who have stood beside her throughout her pageant journey.
"If it weren't for my husband, I wouldn't be a Mrs.," she says with a smile. "He knows how much I enjoy competing and helps however he can. My parents have also been on this journey with me since I was a teen. They've seen the highs and lows and have always been there cheering me on." When she's not working, volunteering, or preparing for appearances, Shockey enjoys spending time with her family in Woodstock and East Cobb. She appreciates the area's small town feel, local parks, community events, and opportunities to connect with neighbors. For women and young girls, her message is simple: stop comparing yourself to others. "Comparison is the thief of joy," she says. "Don't spend your time searching for perfection. Find what makes you happy and excited to get up every day and do it with confidence. You never know what new passion you might discover by simply going for it." Looking ahead, Shockey hopes her legacy as Mrs. Georgia America 2026 will be defined by strength, resilience, and encouragement. "I've faced loss and challenges that made me want to give up," she says. "But I kept moving forward because I knew others were watching. If I can inspire even one person to keep going when life gets hard, that's a legacy I'm proud to leave."
“Confidence isn't something you're born with; it's something you build through life's toughest moments. If I can inspire one person to keep going, that's a legacy worth leaving.”

FitLife EXPO - one of North Atlanta's favorite fall traditions
Wellness Connects Community When the FitLife EXPO launched in 2021, the idea was simple: bring people back together. Six years later, it's one of North Atlanta's favorite traditions - drawing together local businesses, families, nonprofits, and the opportunity to connect and engage while making an impact on community. Built around the mission to Connect. Engage. Impact., the FitLife EXPO was created as a free community event celebrating health, wellness, fitness, and healthy living - but the vision was always bigger than wellness.

The FitLife EXPO is about making wellness accessible through local businesses, organizations, and resources that may be new to you. Whether you're participating in a pop-up fitness class, sampling healthy treats, walking the One Step Closer Breast Cancer Walk, cheering on the Pet Parade, exploring the Community Impact Zone, supporting the food drive, or visiting the booths and interactive exhibits throughout the EXPO, there's something for everyone, even a Kid’s Zone. The 6th Annual FitLife EXPO is set for Sunday, October 11 at Alpharetta City Center and Admission is free. Reserve your tickets at TheFitLifeExpo.com and register for the One Step Closer breast cancer walk and the Pet Parade. See you at the EXPO!
Today, more than 1,500 people attend the annual event in Downtown Alpharetta, hosted in partnership with the City of Alpharetta and sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottling United. What began as a one-day wellness event has grown into one of North Atlanta's favorite fall traditions by continually finding new ways to engage the community. The North Fulton Community Charities food drive has been part of the EXPO since year one, while newer additions, including the One Step Closer Breast Cancer Walk benefiting the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer, the Community Impact Zone featuring local nonprofits, and this year's pet parade, have created even more opportunities for attendees to connect, give back, and have fun. This year also introduces the FitLife EXPO Wellness Weekend, inviting visitors to Come for the EXPO. Stay for the Weekend! With special hotel packages, the Wire & Wood festival, outdoor recreation, shopping, dining, and free fitness opportunities throughout Alpharetta, guests can turn one great day into an unforgettable weekend.

Gathering and Gratitude:
Sliding Into Fall For some families, autumn begins with football. For others, it's the first crisp morning or changing leaves. For me, it has always begun with pumpkins. As a fifth-generation East Cobb family and the daughter of a farmer, I was raised with a deep appreciation for the land, the changing seasons, and the traditions that brought people together. After fresh berry and sweet corn season ended, pumpkin season arrived - a time I eagerly anticipated. I couldn't wait to walk the fields, cut pumpkins from the vine, and carry them home. Even today, the first cool breeze instantly transports me back to those cherished moments.
But what I remember most wasn't the pumpkins. It was the porch. My grandmother's porch on Post Oak Tritt Road was where life happened. Family, neighbors, and lifelong friends gathered without invitation. Someone always brought homemade food. Stories were shared, laughter echoed into the evening, and no one seemed to be in a hurry. Looking back, I realize those afternoons weren't simply family visits - they were the moments that built community. Those memories became the inspiration for Praise Pumpkins. As my business partner, Barbara Williams, often says, "The entrance to our home is the entrance to our hearts." We believe a beautifully decorated porch is more than seasonal décor. It welcomes friends, invites conversation, and creates a place where memories naturally unfold. Today, Praise Pumpkins transforms homes, businesses, churches, shopping destinations, festivals, and community spaces throughout Metro Atlanta with custom-designed fall installations. From sourcing pumpkins to installation, maintenance, and removal, we handle every detail so families and businesses can simply enjoy the season. The greatest reward, however, isn't the finished display. It's watching children race to the front porch, neighbors stop to admire the pumpkins, friends gather for photos, and families linger together just a little longer. Those are the moments that remind us why we do what we do. To us, pumpkins have always represented far more than autumn. They symbolize harvest, gratitude, abundance, and God's faithfulness. More importantly, they create opportunities for connection. If one porch encourages another conversation, one gathering, or one lasting family memory, then Praise Pumpkins has fulfilled its purpose - bringing people together and celebrating the community we are super proud to call home, one porch at a time. praisepumpkins.com
