A Georgia Grown Holiday at the Governor's Mansion As the holiday season descends upon the State of Georgia, there’s a longstanding tradition that brings the many flavors of our state to the forefront of our holiday tables. “Georgia Grown” is not just a marketing catchphrase, it’s a celebration of the state’s rich agricultural heritage and our combined commitment to supporting local businesses. Georgia Grown aims to promote and highlight the agricultural and food products produced within the State of Georgia, emphasizing the importance of supporting local farmers and businesses, especially during the holiday season. with a Sweet Grass Dairy cheese board followed by mini biscuits with pimento cheese and duck prosciutto, a Bramlett Trout Farm smoked trout spread and Georgia sourdough crackers. With a tip of the hat to the new year, our salad was made with collard greens and black-eyed peas. A delicious Riverview Farm crown roast of pork was served with carrot soufflé, green bean bundles wrapped with bacon and creamy grits with a ragú made from Ellijay mushrooms. And, to top off the holiday meal, a praline pecan cheesecake with carmel sauce. The Governors Mansion holiday table was artfully decorated by Le Jardin Francais and included an antique state silver candelabra, the official state china and a beautiful collection of seasonal flowers, magnolia branches, and rustic grape vines. For me, the holiday season is simply enchanting. Images of Santa’s red suit, Rudolph’s bright nose and festive twinkling lights intertwine with memories of family gatherings and culinary delights reserved for this special time of year. After a December trip to Germany and Austria, I expanded my stateside version of holiday enchantment to include an age-old European tradition—Christmas markets. The holidays will never be the same! Traditional Christmas markets transform city and small-town squares across the continent into festive, aromatic, music-filled fairs. Lights outline stalls where local vendors dole out hot mugs of gluhwein (sweet, mulled wine) and artisans share one-of-a-kind wares. Since their founding in the Middle Ages, the original markets’ festive sounds have expanded to include the myriad languages of international visitors reveling in their delights. Germany hosts approximately 3,000 markets nationwide. Austria claims a Vienna market as the world’s oldest, dating all the way back to 1296! I fell in love with the concept in Munich, where the largest market occupies the Marienplastz. First documented as a Nikolausmarkt in 1310, today’s version overflows with hand-carved ornaments and nativity scenes that are as captivating as the beautiful Munich City Hall in the background of the market. My favorite purchases were individually crafted Nutcrackers. According to German folklore, they will bring luck and protection to the homes of those who find them wrapped under their trees. complete until I indulged in Bee Sting Cake, a Bavarian pretzel and other delectable treats! In Austria, nightly caroling on the steps of the Salzburg Cathedral and concerts throughout the city honor Mozart, the city’s most famous son. Refrains of Stille Nacht (Silent Night) often fill the air, paying homage to its origins nearby. While the city’s main market is hosted at the Cathedral, another lovely one is located in the courtyard of the imposing Salzburg Castle. In either, expect to find hand-knitted scarves, caps and socks along with beautiful glass ornaments boasting intricate frosted scenes. My group also dropped by St. Peter Stiftskulinarium to warm up with a

glass of Austrian wine while soaking in the restaurant’s storied history—it claims to have served the Emperor Charlemagne! I made one last stop at the elegant Vienna, capital of the Hapsburg empire. Myriad markets pop up around the city each year. Stalls overflow with traditional wooden toys reminiscent of the classic St. Nick, while the aroma of roasted chestnuts, strudel and rich pastries permeates the air. A favorite market, the “Vienna Magic of Advent,” transforms City Hall environs into a magical fairyland. Another fills streets set against the romantic backdrop of Schonbrunn Palace. Both are a Viennese delight not to be missed! A visit to Europe’s Christmas markets is guaranteed to add to the enchantment of your season. And the treasures you bring home will allow you to re-visit the markets for years to come.

For the third year, Cobb EMC, a member-owned electric cooperative in Marietta, ranked #1 in the nation for reliability, is lighting up the region with a tour of enchanting Christmas light-strung homes powered by none other than Cobb EMC. The tour will kick off with the spectacular lighting of the Cobb EMC Solar Flower Garden and corporate campus on November 30 from 6- to 8 p.m. Until Christmas day, participating homes across the energy provider's five-county service territory will be illuminated every night for the public to enjoy. DR. JACKIE MCMORRIS C O B B C O U N T Y M A N AG E R Dr. McMorris began working for the county as the Director of Public Services in 2013. She made history on three accounts during her time in office: once as the first female director of the Agency, the second time as Cobb County’s first Deputy County Manager in October 2017 and again as the first female County Manager in April 2020. Today, she has over 20 years of local government experience. “My passion is helping people reach their full potential by adding value wherever and whenever the opportunity arises,” says Dr. McMorris. “I love sharing my experiences with others while listening, learning and growing as a leader.” She explains that even with the high expectations to be fully transparent, fair, responsive and fiscally prudent, she never withholds from giving 100% to those who rely on her. “My mantra is ‘How do we get to yes without ever adversely impacting our County?’” she explains.

After serving on the Gwinnett Chamber for seven years, he became the president and CEO of Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber (SSPC) in November 2022. “The Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber does three things really well, and they constitute what I love most about what I do: Connecting, Coaching and Community,” says Adam. Witnessing the resiliency and determination of his entrepreneurial grandparents, Adam found his passion in the chamber world. He considers his local business community to be family and recognizes them for their prosperous impact daily through his role at the chamber. “Commerce knows no boundaries,” says Adam. “We have members of our chamber who work or live in East Cobb and serve customers and businesses in Sandy Springs.”

Brittney Gray has served as the Executive Director for a year after spending 17 years working for Explore Georgia, the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s tourism division. “I really love the community pride in Marietta,” Brittney proclaims. “When locals are proud of their destination and feel appreciated, they become natural ambassadors for their city.” In the same way as chambers and city government, Brittney gives back to the East Cobb community by guiding area visitors into local businesses and uplifting the business community in turn. But a picture-perfect baking session can turn to chaos when kids are involved. Instead, leave the real baking to Mom or Dad and recruit the kids to help make these no-bake, kid-friendly treats instead!
Reindeer Rice Krispies These classic Rice Krispy treats with a twist keep things simple yet delicious!
I N G R E D IE N T S • • • • • •
6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal Bag of mini marshmallows 6 tbsp. butter Candy eyeballs Red m&ms Chocolate cookie icing
DIRECTIONS
1. Prep Ingredients: Measure all ingredients and melt butter on the stove. Add marshmallows once melted and stir until smooth. *The key to making these recipes as seamless as possible is prep. Do any cutting, measuring or melting beforehand so the kids can focus on assembly. 2. Combine: Remove the marshmallow mixture from the pan, add Rice Krispies and mix together. 3. Let Set: Spoon Rice Krispies into a buttered pan and leave until hardened. 4. Decorate: Now for the fun part! Once the treats are cut into squares, use chocolate icing to “glue” on candy eyes and red M&M’s as a nose. Finish them off with icing antlers, and you’re finished!

Marshmallows Chocolate cookie icing Pretzel sticks Candy Corn
DIRECTIONS 1. Assembly: Stick two pretzel sticks into the tops of marshmallows. Then, stick a third marshmallow in between them. Add four pretzel sticks to the snowman for arms and legs. 2. Decorate: Make three dots on the middle marshmallow for buttons using chocolate cookie icing. Then, add a cute smile and some eyes to the top marshmallow. Cut a small slit between the eyes and mouth and insert the candy corn for a perfect carrot nose.
Oreo Cake Pops Skip the Starbucks drive-thru and make these cake pops instead!

Package of Oreos 4 ounces of cream cheese 5 ounces of white chocolate Lollipop sticks
DIRECTIONS
1. Prep: Add all Oreos to a food processor and pulse until they become small crumbs. 2. Combine: Use hands (things might get a little messy!) to combine the Oreo crumbs and cream cheese. Roll into balls and place on a baking sheet. 3. Chill: Allow cake balls to chill in the fridge for 10-15 minutes. 4. Dip: Melt the white chocolate according to package directions. Then, put each cake ball on a lollipop stick and dip into the melted chocolate.

This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”
The annual City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is in its 4th year. Last holiday season we gave away over $300,000 to help 116 individuals and families in need, but we need your help to make it happen again this year. With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you know of a single parent struggling to provide for their family, an elderly person who has experienced loss, someone enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need, even if no one else does. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them during this holiday season.” “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success, so we in turn want to be a blessing to others,” Matthew Perry, President of City Lifestyle adds. City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep giving on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is truly rewarding and it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster a culture of generosity.”

Every space in the home becomes a gathering place when the holidays arrive. Slowly, they fill with people, and with people come memories; memories like holiday films snuggled on the living room sofa, thoughtfully prepared meals splayed across the dining room table and cups of cocoa passed between dear friends under a starry sky. Consistency is key when creating an enchanting atmosphere to hold these memories. Leave no space untouched by festive adornment. Decide ahead of time on the ambiance you want to permeate your holiday memories, then stick to it. The Living Room: Holiday cheer starts in the living room, a hub of fireside chats, sofa snuggles and excited faces tearing into wellwrapped gifts on Christmas morning. This is primarily thanks to the crown jewel, the Christmas tree. Whether you're a real or faux tree fan, the tree is the centerpiece of the home during the holidays. Most of the time, a classic green tree with warm white lights is the way to go. It doesn't clash, instantly adds festive flare and can be customized to any preference with ornaments and embellishments. But the living room holds one other holiday attention grabber: the mantel. For the minimalist, a few white vases stuffed with Holly Sprigs, layers of tall pillar candles and simple

Build on the elements present in your runner and dishes to create a truly magical dining setup. Accentuate holiday china with fanciful napkins and rings, gold utensils or a sweet memento such as a jingle bell, mini wreath or name card on every plate, paying close attention to detail. Flora is a fundamental centerpiece of the jubilant meals shared here by loved ones.
