We were humbled to sit down with John Driskell Hopkins who is best known for his role as founding member, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter for the Grammy Award-winning Zac Brown Band. As an East Cobb resident, John is battling ALS and he and his wife Jennifer took action and launched Hop On A Cure, committed to supporting research to prevent, reverse, and cure ALS while raising awareness, building a compassionate community, and unleashing the healing power of hope. East Cobb resident, rock and roll superstar, and my friend, John Driskell Hopkins was diagnosed with ALS on December 22, 2021. Although it took a couple of months for John to get his head wrapped around what that would mean for him personally, John and his wife Jennifer, jumped into action to form a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In that most precious of moments, Hop On A Cure in support of ALS was founded. Their dedication to changing the face of ALS had begun. John or "Hop," as he is lovingly referred to by family, friends, and fans worldwide, made the news public by sharing his diagnosis while surrounded by his friends from the Zac Brown Band on May 21, 2022. “We are jumping on every opportunity that comes our way to get involved and make a large noise in the name of ALS,” says Hop. “I don’t expect to find the cure myself, but I have a platform in music. We are always reaching out and partnering with other musical groups to raise critical funds in support of research and those of us living with ALS.” And, with musical talents such as Zac Brown Band, Indigo Girls, Balsam Range, and the one and only Debby Boone all stepping up to help Hop on his mission, it’s just beginning. “I think the community is incredibly strong,” says Hop. "We have a real opportunity to make our voices heard.” The holidays are very special for Hop and his family. “My kids have been amazing this year,” says Hop. “We expect to get a visit from Santa unless they blow it between now and then.” Hop's fourth Christmas album "Let's Get Frosty" with Yacht Rock Revue will be available this time next year. Nights out are golden, so being able to combine dinner AT a movie is like having the red carpet rolled out just for you. Brandt Gully purchased the Lefont Sandy Springs in November 2017 and spent the next 16 months fully renovating the theatre. The renovations included upscale amenities such as Atlanta's first luxury leather heated recliners, a full kitchen so patrons can enjoy a savory meal, a full bar offering 18 craft beer draft lines, 60 bourbons, 25 tequilas, more than 20 wines, and specialty cocktails. “With the design, I wanted our patrons to walk in the doors and immediately see we are not a chain and that the cinema was built and operated with them specifically in mind,” says Gully. “Recently, we showed films in three different languages, a silent film, screenings of locally made indie films, live sporting events on the big screen, retro movies in our parking lot drive-in, numerous indie studio selections, and, of course, Hollywood blockbusters. We offer a full kitchen menu, weekend live music on our patio and an abundance of private parties and events weekly." Until four years ago, Gully had not operated a theater, restaurant, bar, or remodeled as much as a bathroom. “Yet, I decided to put every penny I had into buying and renovating this theater that my wife and I had visited for 30 years,” he says. He was inspired by the community. “My oldest daughter was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and spent a year in the children’s hospital. While there I was surrounded by people who made my life better daily with their jobs; I decided I needed to attempt the same. I’d be a terrible nurse, doctor or fireman...so, I bought a theater! It’s allowed me to connect to my community by providing an entertainment destination and teach our young team (including my three children) the value of work. I’ve never worked so hard in my life, but I’ve loved every minute of it.” Tim Russell is the General Manager of The Springs, with a culinary arts degree and over 25 years of experience in restaurants. He rose to the challenge of building a highend quality kitchen menu that successfully accommodates the timing of movie showings. Together, the team makes family outings, corporate events and evenings out special. They especially make date nights more fabulous - movies with martinis (and a meal)!

Giving Campaign Now in its third year, the City Lifestyle Giving Campaign will give away $300,000 this holiday season to help individual community members who would benefit from a helping hand during their time of need. But they need YOUR HELP to make it happen! Maybe you know of a single parent struggling to provide, an elderly person who has experienced loss, a child enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need—even if nobody else does. To preserve and protect the dignity of every recipient, the City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized in ANY way. (Even those who nominate others may remain anonymous if they choose.) Last year, City Lifestyle was able to give to more than 70 recipients all over the country by sending checks in the mail through New Year’s Eve. (This year, the goal is to double that number with checks ranging in amounts up to $3,000 each.) With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.” Together with Matthew Perry, Chief Sales Officer, Steven adds that the outpouring and gratitude from the recipients was overwhelming and affirmed that this is a tradition they want to continue. “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success,” Matthew adds, “so we in turn want to be a blessing to others.” City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep doing it on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is so rewarding that it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster that culture of generosity.”

THE VAIL VIBE Strolling the snowy streets of dreamy Vail, Colorado is idyllic as it is international.
