At Optimum Health, Dr. Danny Pietruszewski has created a restorative, boutique-style clinic where patients are seen as individuals, not appointments on a schedule. His approach is thoughtful, private, and deeply personal — proving that the best care often starts with listening. Dr. Danny Pietruszewski opened Optimum Health in December 2024 after finishing chiropractic school and returning home to the Twin Cities. For Lisa Carmichael, community isn’t an abstract idea. It’s the engine behind everything she builds. As a fractional chief marketing officer (CMO), she has learned that her greatest impact comes from helping others step into their own potential. “The more I help people, the bigger difference it makes for me, for them, and for my family,” she shared.

That contribution-first mindset didn’t come easily. For years, she worried about overgiving, about people picking her brain or leaning too heavily on her time. It took a conscious shift to move from protecting her energy to embracing that helping others is where she feels most aligned. Launching her fractional CMO business clarified what she has to offer: strategy, structure, and a trusted partner for small businesses that want to rise above the noise. Many of her clients are entrepreneurs caught in the daily grind. They’re running operations, serving customers, juggling countless tasks, and marketing inevitably falls to the bottom of the list. Lisa brings a fresh lens, stepping outside their day-to-day to identify gaps, strengthen brand presence, and build systems that create lasting momentum. Most of her network had been rooted in Minneapolis through Merlin’s Rest, and moving into a new community meant starting over socially. “All of my friends were at least a phone call away or a plane ride away,” she said. Then came a message from local entrepreneur Lisa Carmichael, asking if Tracie would consider hosting gatherings for female business owners. Tracie calls it “an answer to my prayers.” The idea aligned perfectly with her desire to surround herself with powerhouse women who were also seeking connection. From that first gathering, she felt something shift. She began meeting women who were committed to growth, authenticity, and lifting each other up—exactly the environment she wanted to cultivate. Requests started pouring in for Merlin’s Rest favorites like pasties and minced pies, especially from former Minnesota residents who had moved away. “People find connection in food,” Nichole explained. “In the dishes their grandma used to make.” What began as a way to ship a few treats quickly expanded into a robust direct-to-consumer business. Today, thousands of minced pies reach customers each year, with California and Tennessee leading the way. That experience lit a new spark. In 2024, Nichole began imagining a business she could call entirely her own. It combined creativity, problem-solving, and her knack for helping others succeed. By January 2025, Embers & Ash Co. became official. The business started with stationery, then evolved into wedding and event favors, keychains, magnets, tote bags, apparel, and more. Each expansion came from conversations with customers and fellow small business owners. Nichole listened, adapted, and created with intention. What drives her isn’t the pursuit of huge profits; it’s the joy of connection. She loves partnering with fundraisers and community events, helping people find exactly what they didn’t know they needed. Her work allows her to express her creativity while giving back with one custom piece at a time. Nichole sees every day as an opportunity to stretch, grow, and learn. “If I didn’t learn something new today, then really, what did I do?” she said with a smile. That continuous curiosity has become her business philosophy and her personal compass. We live in a culture that glorifies productivity. The “hustle” has become a badge of honor, and rest can sometimes feel like weakness. But what happens when doing our best turns into never feeling good enough? That’s where Maddy Trenholm, MSW, LICSW, can help. A licensed therapist based in Eagan and the owner of Maddy Trenholm Counseling, Maddy helps adults untangle the anxiety, self-criticism, and burnout that come with perfectionism. “I’ve been there,” she says. “Perfectionism doesn’t just affect your work. It shows up in your relationships, your health, and even your hobbies. It can feel like there’s always someone else doing better, faster, or more easily than you.” Maddy’s clients often arrive at her office feeling drained from trying to meet unrealistic expectations. They’ve achieved success on paper but can’t shake the nagging voice that says it’s still not enough. Over time, that constant striving can lead to anxiety, procrastination, and even depression. “Many people I work with are incredibly capable,” Maddy explains. “But perfectionism tells them that if it isn’t flawless, it’s a failure. That mindset can rob you of joy and keep you stuck.”

THE COST OF CONSTANT COMPARISON

A 2022 Gallup poll found that 76% of American workers experience burnout at least some of the time. For those with perfectionist tendencies, that number may feel even higher. Maddy points out that perfectionism can take many forms, including staying up late to triple-check a report, over-exercising to meet a self-imposed fitness goal, or replaying every conversation to make sure nothing “wrong” was said. It can even appear as procrastination: waiting until you can do something perfectly before starting at all.

According to research from Harvard, people caught in the cycle of perfectionism often display five traits: unrealistic standards, harsh self-criticism, fear of failure, overworking, and a resultsonly mindset. The outcome? Burnout, dissatisfaction, strained relationships, and a constant feeling of falling short. “People think resilience means pushing through no matter what,” says Maddy. “But real resilience is knowing when to stop, say no, and protect your wellbeing.”

REFRAMING WHAT “GOOD ENOUGH” MEANS

Maddy often encourages clients to start by challenging perfectionist thoughts with simple truths: • Rest isn’t a reward; it’s a necessity. • “Good enough” is still good. • Self-worth doesn’t depend on achievement. • Boundaries are a form of self-respect. Perfectionism can’t be cured overnight, but it can be understood and managed. By learning to accept imperfection, people often rediscover creativity, connection, and genuine contentment. “Everyone has something they want to be better at,” Maddy says. “That’s human. The goal isn’t to stop caring. It’s to care in a way that doesn’t cost you your peace.” For anyone feeling stuck, anxious, or exhausted from trying to meet impossible standards, Maddy’s message is simple: it’s okay to rest, it’s okay to ask for help, and it’s okay to be human.

“Resilience isn’t powering through. It’s knowing when to pause, set a boundary, and give yourself the care you deserve.”

At her office inside Flex Wellness in Eagan, or virtually for those who prefer online sessions, Maddy offers therapy for anxiety, trauma, and performance-related stress. She also specializes in EMDR therapy, a highly researched approach for processing distressing memories that can contribute to perfectionism and anxiety. In her practice, clients often learn to recognize the difference between healthy motivation and harmful pressure. Together, they unpack where those inner voices came from, including teachers, parents, and coaches, and begin to replace them with kinder, more realistic self-talk.

“There’s usually someone else’s voice in your head telling you that you’re not good enough,” she explains. “Therapy helps you separate that voice from your own and decide which one you want to listen to.”

There are turning points in life that quietly steer us toward our purpose. For Leah Mtegha, founder of The Green Clean Crew, that turning point began in 2011 after the passing of her father. At the time, she was an event planner at the University of Minnesota. When her mom needed extra financial support, Leah started cleaning homes part-time. As Leah puts it, “People still want that fresh, inviting scent after a cleaning, just not the chemical kind.” Clients can even choose the blend used in their home, adding a personalized touch to the entire experience.

A DEMAND FOR RESIDENTIAL CLEANING EXPERIENCES

While the business originally focused heavily on commercial properties, residential clients have grown significantly over the past few years. And with that shift, Leah has gained an even deeper appreciation for the emotional impact of a tidy home. “I used to take cleaning for granted,” she admits. “I didn’t see it as anything deeper. Now I know it’s not only about the task, it’s about how people feel when we’re done. They breathe easier. They feel lighter. They can invite friends over without stress.”

This sense of calm and order is what Leah considers the heart of her work. Her team uses a method she describes as “speed cleaning,” which trains cleaners to understand their products, follow a set system, and approach each home with care and attention to detail. The goal isn’t to rush. It’s to work with intention and consistency. What truly separates Green Clean Crew, however, is their presence. “Everyone can clean,” Leah says. “What we bring is an experience.” That experience includes warmth, friendliness, and a no-judgment policy.
