REAL ESTATE SHAPED BY THE LAND

GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy have helped many patients achieve significant, life-changing weight loss While the health benefits are undeniable, rapid weight loss can sometimes bring an unexpected change: facial volume loss that leaves you looking tired, hollow, or older than you feel

Often referred to as “GLP-1 Face” or “Ozempic Face,” this occurs when facial fat diminishes faster than the skin can adjust. Facial fat provides structure and support to the cheeks, jawline, and neck. When that support is lost quickly, skin may sag, folds can deepen, and definition may fade

In early stages, non-surgical treatments such as fillers or botox injections can help restore volume However, when skin laxity becomes more noticeable, adding filler alone may create an unnatural appearance without addressing the true problem -loose skin and structural descent

For patients who have reached their goal weight, a facelift offers a more comprehensive and lasting solution By repositioning deeper facial structures and removing excess skin, a facelift restores natural contours and definition, helping your appearance align with how healthy and confident you feel

Home, in Motion

We’ve all heard the saying, home is where the heart is. I think that’s true, but I also believe people are the ones who keep that heartbeat going. You can easily fall in love with a place, design it just right, and make it your own. But without the people and stories that fill it, even a well-dressed house can start to feel a little lonely.

Ask any mom and she’ll probably admit there’s something blissful about an empty house. I soak up the silence like a sponge. No one asking for snacks, no background noise, no schedules pulling me in five different directions. It’s peaceful and restorative in its own way. But after a little while, that quiet shifts. The stillness feels empty, and all I want is for my people to walk back through the door. So, for me, it will always be the people who make my home what it is.

That idea of home being shaped by the people inside it shows up in so many ways throughout this issue. Yes, we’re sharing beautiful spaces brought to life by talented builders, architects, and designers. We’re highlighting experts who help families take the exciting step into home ownership. But we’re also exploring how home functions as a place of learning, creativity, and growth.

Inside this issue, you’ll find stories that reflect the many ways home shows up in our lives. From the people who help us build, protect, and reimagine our spaces, to families learning and growing right at the kitchen table, this issue captures home in motion. We’re celebrating new spaces and sharing simple ways to enjoy time at home with date-night recipes and cocktails made for evenings in or after a day on the course. You’ll also find heartfelt stories of compassion and community, from furry friends finding their way back home to those working tirelessly to make safe, stable housing possible for others.

Home isn’t just walls and roofs. It’s where lessons are learned, hearts are healed, and everyday moments quietly matter the most.

This issue is a reminder that while a house gives us shelter, it’s the people, the purpose, and the love inside that truly make it feel like home.

FAMILY LAW MYTHS THAT AFFECT YOUR HOME— AND THE TRUTH BEHIND THEM

When families build a life together—buying a home, blending finances, raising children—most decisions are guided by trust and optimism. People assume things will work out because, so far, they usually have. That sense of forward momentum is part of what makes family life feel meaningful and secure.

But according to family law attorneys Blair Carroll and Shelly Troberman, optimism can sometimes leave families vulnerable. Over years of practice, they’ve watched the same assumptions resurface again and again—beliefs that feel logical, are widely shared, and often go unquestioned until a major life change forces a closer look.

The challenge is that many of these assumptions simply aren’t true. And when families discover that reality after the fact, the emotional and financial fallout can be significant. Here are four of the most common family law myths that affect homes and households— and the truths that can help families protect what they’ve built.

MYTH #1: THE SPOUSE WHOSE NAME IS ON THE DEED OWNS THE HOME EXCLUSIVELY

“A frequent misconception is that if the home is titled in only one spouse’s name, it’s their separate property and not subject to division,” Carroll says. However, if the home was purchased during the marriage with community funds, it’s presumed to be community property regardless of the deed. The name on the title doesn’t determine ownership; courts look at when and how it was acquired.

MYTH #2: IF THE HOUSE WAS BOUGHT BEFORE MARRIAGE, IT CAN NEVER BE SUBJECT TO DIVISION

Many assume that a home purchased prior to marriage remains 100 percent the original owner’s separate property, with no claims from the other spouse. While the home itself is typically separate property (based on the “Inception of Title” rule), community funds used during the marriage—such as mortgage payments, improvements, taxes, or maintenance—can create reimbursement claims. The non-owning spouse may be entitled to a share of the equity buildup or reimbursement for those contributions, potentially requiring a payout or offset in the division.

MYTH #3: THE MARITAL HOME IS ALWAYS SOLD AND PROCEEDS ARE SPLIT EQUALLY

People often think the house must be sold to divide assets cleanly, especially if there’s a mortgage. “While selling and splitting proceeds is common and straightforward, alternatives like one spouse buying out the other’s interest (often via refinance to remove one party from the loan) or offsetting with other assets are frequent,” says Carroll. Courts encourage agreements that work for both parties, and forced sales aren’t required if a fair alternative exists.

These misconceptions highlight how nuanced Texas community property laws can be, especially when real estate is involved. Factors like tracing funds, appraisals, and reimbursement claims make outcomes highly case-specific. As always, the best way to avoid pitfalls is to consult a qualified Texas family law attorney early. They can review your situation, including deeds, mortgage history, and contributions. If you have details about your circumstances, they can help clarify further.

Having these conversations early allows families to make decisions thoughtfully and creates space to focus on what truly matters: building a secure, supportive environment where children can thrive.

MYTH #4: WE DON’T NEED LEGAL AGREEMENTS UNLESS SOMETHING GOES WRONG

For many families, planning ahead feels uncomfortable. Legal agreements can seem pessimistic or unnecessary when life is going well. Some worry that raising these conversations signals a lack of trust.

Troberman sees it differently. “The best time to make agreements is when people are calm, cooperative, and on the same page,” she says. “They’re not about expecting things to fall apart; they’re about reducing uncertainty if life changes.”

Cohabitation agreements, property agreements, and parenting plans clarify expectations while relationships are strong. They can prevent misunderstandings, reduce conflict, and preserve goodwill if circumstances shift.

WHY THESE CONVERSATIONS MATTER

The family takeaway: Clear expectations protect relationships—not just assets.

Families don’t struggle because they don’t care. They struggle when expectations don’t align with reality. Understanding the legal foundations of home ownership, relationships, and parenting doesn’t make family life colder or less hopeful. In many cases, it brings relief.

When parents feel informed and prepared, children sense that stability. Having these conversations early—before conflict or crisis—allows families to make decisions thoughtfully rather than reactively. It creates space to focus on what truly matters: building a secure, supportive environment where children can thrive.

Same Cravings, New Address

ARTICLE BY SHANNON HOLZWARTH | PHOTOGRAPHY BY KIMBER BROWN

If you’ve lived in Drip long enough, you’re probably no stranger to having a Texassized craving for the Thai dishes created in the little food truck known as Aroi, tucked off 290 and Nutty Brown.

For years, reviews have echoed the refrain, “worth the wait.” When you experience the true talent of this kitchen team for yourself, you understand exactly why so many residents felt this way.

The owner, Siwaphan Sampaotong (aka “Jo”), ran the food truck for about 12 years before recently transitioning into a new brick-and-mortar restaurant called Rice & Oak Thai Texas Grill Kitchen, located next to TCBY in Dripping Springs. It’s important to Jo that everything is made in-house. He also ensures his staff is properly trained

to uphold the high standards behind the food that has earned him local fame.

Jo is originally from Thailand, where he attended culinary school. At 18, he moved to the United States to pursue an internship in Nashville before eventually landing in Texas to help a friend at his restaurant in Kerrville. Jo is completely at home in the kitchen. Because he thrives on creating Thai comfort food that keeps people coming back, he knew he wanted a place of his own that showcased his unique style.   Rice & Oak launched its soft opening on January 2, and it’s already become a huge success in our ever-growing community. The new digs are small, cozy, and inviting, with just the right amount of warm lighting.

Crab Fried Rice
Tiger Cry Flank Steak

When my friend Jenni and I dropped in, there wasn’t an empty table in sight, but Jo’s partner, Noon, welcomed us with a big smile. Not only had she saved us two spots at the bar, but she had a bottle of red wine waiting for us as well. The place was buzzing, and our bar seats closest to the kitchen door gave us a front-row seat to the nonstop magic.

Jo popped his head out of the swinging kitchen door to greet us and let us know his favorite dishes would be headed our way soon. The first plate to arrive was the crispy brussels sprouts, key word being “crispy” because soggy sprouts they were not. Tossed in a ginger-soy citrus vinaigrette, the aroma alone made it almost impossible to wait for photos. (But just for you, dear reader, we endured the pain.)

Next up was house-made shrimp with a side of sriracha aioli over tempura-fried green beans. The prawns were lightly breaded and Texas-sized, to boot.

Then came the half chicken satay, which, full disclosure, isn’t something I’d typically order. To my surprise, it ended up being our absolute favorite dish of the

night. A marinated chicken breast and thigh sat atop a house-made peanut sauce, accompanied by seasoned slices of buttery Texas toast and a side of cucumber salad mixed with jalapeños, pickled cabbage, cilantro, and other Thai spices.

Jo shared the best way to enjoy it: Spread peanut sauce on the toast, tear off pieces of chicken (which literally fell off the bone thanks to being slow-cooked over charcoal in-house), and top it all with the cucumber salad. You’d think all those layers would feel heavy, but the dish was incredibly fresh and surprisingly light.

We couldn’t wait to see what would come out next, and it turned out to be one of their most sought-after dishes, the Tiger Cry flank steak. Jo explained that the lean meat is marinated in a Thai tamarind sauce, cooked over high-heat charcoal, and served with a chili dipping sauce, roasted chili jam, and an herb salad.

Another fan favorite is the duck leg confit with red curried vegetables. The duck is marinated overnight in an authentic fivespice blend, then cooked for another three to four hours. Jo is also very proud (as he

should be) of his brisket, which is marinated with love and smoked in-house for a full 24 hours. Are you drooling yet?

Just when we thought we couldn’t possibly indulge in another bite on our Thai journey, Jo surprised us with one last winner, the crab fried rice. Perfectly cooked jasmine rice is stir-fried with egg, scallions, and fresh crab and finished with a tangy chile-lime dressing.

The overall experience blew away our expectations, and judging by the buzz on social media, it’s no surprise that Jo sold out of everything on the menu while trying to keep up with demand during the first few weeks of opening. Beyond the outstanding food, servers Melanie and Simon were incredibly friendly and patient, and the entire staff set a tone focused on connection, comfort, and community.

Well done, Jo … well done. On behalf of the many foodies of Dripping Springs, we thank you for expanding your kitchen and giving us even more opportunities to experience the quality, dedication, and authenticity that we hope will make Rice & Oak a new staple in town.

March Is Mortgage Month

When the Smart Loan Conversation Happens

Most people think the mortgage process starts when they find a house or decide to refinance. In reality, it starts earlier, and the timing of that first conversation matters more than most people realize.

March is when patterns begin to show up. Buyers start casually looking. Homeowners begin wondering whether refinancing might make sense later in the year. Nothing feels urgent yet, which is exactly why this month matters.

Here’s what usually happens when those conversations wait until late spring or early summer:

Buyers find a house they love and rush through a loan application hoping everything lines up. Income documents need clarification. Credit questions pop up. Payment expectations do not match reality. Offers lose leverage because financing is not fully vetted. The stress feels unnecessary because it is avoidable.

Homeowners often do something similar. They watch rates and wait. Then life changes or rates move, and the window suddenly feels small. Options feel limited. What could have been a strategic refinance turns into a reactive one.

The issue is rarely bad timing; it is late timing.

A quiet loan review in March does something powerful: It answers simple questions before they become urgent ones.

What price range actually fits the monthly budget?

How much cash should stay in reserve?

What small credit adjustments move the needle most? Which refinance scenarios make sense and which do not?

At BTB Home Loans, this is where the work starts. Not with a rate quote. Not with an online form designed to spit out a number. It starts with a real conversation about goals, structure, and timing so decisions later in the year feel obvious instead of rushed.

That preparation does not lock anyone into buying or refinancing; it creates clarity. And clarity creates leverage.

Spring and summer always feel busy in hindsight. March is when things can still be calm, intentional, and well thought out. The people who move confidently later are almost always the ones who asked better questions earlier.

Ford Design

Crafting Timeless Homes Rooted in Land,

ARTICLE BY MICAH WIENER | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JACK THOMPSON AND LAUREN CLARK
Legacy, and Family

For more than 25 years, Ford Design has built a reputation for creating homes that feel both deeply personal and enduringly timeless. Founded by husband-and-wife team Matt and Tina Ford, the firm began with modest remodels in Houston. Over time, those early projects evolved into large-scale luxury custom homes defined by a careful balance of story, land, and craftsmanship.

“We create spaces that are a true reflection of both the client and the land,” says Tina. “Our goal is for our work to feel new, yet as though it has always belonged there.”

That philosophy has guided Ford Design through decades of growth, geographic expansion, and, most recently, a new chapter that brings equestrian architecture into the firm’s creative portfolio.

Although Ford Design continues to work in Austin and Houston, the Texas Hill Country has become central to its identity. Matt and Tina originally purchased land in the Henly area to retire a horse; this decision soon evolved into something much larger.

“Once we found the land, an entirely new vision came to life,” says Tina. “We love that Dripping Springs still offers small-town charm while remaining close enough to Austin that we never feel disconnected.”

The Hill Country’s raw terrain—its limestone, oak canopies, and dramatic elevations—now strongly influences the firm’s architectural language. Materials are chosen to feel timeless and grounded, as if the structures have existed for generations, while incorporating modern technology and comfort.

CONTINUED >

“Our buildings are meant to feel deeply connected to the landscape,” Tina says. “The architecture should never detract from the land, but enhance it.”

In its early years, Ford Design focused on breathing new life into older homes, learning how architecture, material, and context interact over time. That foundation proved essential as the firm expanded into custom residential work, where each project begins with a conversation rather than a template.

“We love working with clients who are as thoughtful and excited about design as we are,” Tina says. “That shared enthusiasm is essential to every project.”

Each project begins with an introductory call to ensure alignment, followed by site visits that allow the team to understand the land’s slopes, views, and constraints. Clients share inspiration and vision boards, which inform a preliminary budget and conceptual direction. Ford Design develops the full narrative of the property through mood boards, material studies, and detailed planning before moving into formal design and construction documentation.

“Functionality always comes first,” Tina explains. “From there, it’s our responsibility to elevate that function through thoughtful, beautiful design.”

Ford Design offers a fully integrated design-build experience, managing everything from road access and site work to landscaping and interiors.

The firm is entirely family-owned and operated, a structure that shapes its culture and creative output, with Tina as the primary client-facing lead overseeing budgets, financial organization, and interior selections. Matt focuses on shaping the overall story and vision of each project and manages construction through the early phases before transitioning out as interiors take center stage.

In 2024, the firm welcomed the next generation when daughter Daisy Ford joined the business, bringing with her a lifelong connection to horses and a new design discipline.

“Each of us brings a different skill set to the table,” says Daisy. “That diversity allows us to continually expand and refine our work.”

Ford Design’s expansion into boutique barn design began organically, with the construction of a small barn for the family’s own horses.

“We loved the process and felt deeply connected to it,” Daisy says. “Equestrian design became a very natural extension of the firm.” Daisy now leads all equestrian and stable design, manages marketing, and assists with construction management and client coordination.

Having spent her life immersed in equine sport and experiencing luxury stables around the world, Daisy approaches barn design with a clear understanding that function comes first.

“Functionality is absolutely essential,” she explains. “When we combine the necessities of horse care with Ford Design’s aesthetic sensibility, the result has been incredibly well received.”

“Stables require just as much thought as houses,” Daisy adds. “We identify the specific needs of the horses and their owners and design around what best supports daily life, function, and longevity.”

Each barn project becomes an opportunity to refine the firm’s approach. “I’m excited to continue creating more unique equestrian spaces as we fine-tune the details.”

A defining element of Ford Design’s work is its commitment to craftsmanship. The firm fabricates many of its steel doors, windows, and horse stall fronts in-house, allowing for precise control over quality and design.

“This is a major part of what makes our work unique,” Daisy says.

Often, the most impactful design decisions happen at a larger scale. “Clients sometimes overlook the overall layout of the land,” Daisy notes, “and how each structure relates to the others across the property. That relationship is foundational.”

As Ford Design looks to the future, the firm remains focused on depth rather than speed.

“We hope to continue expanding through increasingly exceptional and meaningful projects,” says Daisy.

Upcoming work centers on upscale ranches throughout Dripping Springs, Wimberley, and Fredericksburg—regions where land, architecture, and lifestyle intersect most clearly.

Ultimately, the goal is timelessness. “We want clients to feel as though they’ve stepped into another century,” Daisy says, “one defined by history, depth, and craftsmanship, while still experiencing the highest level of modern luxury.”

HOME: WHERE EVERY CHILD BELONGS

LOCAL NONPROFIT HELPS CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD FIND SAFETY, FAMILY, AND HOME

What if every child had a safe place to belong … not just for a night, but for life?

For the past 17 years, Global Child Advocates (GCA), a nonprofit headquartered right here in Dripping Springs, has been answering that question for children around the world. With programs in Thailand, Myanmar, Tanzania, and the Philippines, GCA has protected over 45,000 children from abuse, trafficking, and exploitation and has helped preserve more than 10,700 families, ensuring every child has a safe and permanent family to call home.

Guiding this mission is Ashlee Heiligman, a Dripping Springs mom of two who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work. After living in Thailand and witnessing the realities of child abuse and exploitation firsthand, especially for children growing up in orphanages, she returned to Texas with a deep conviction to get

others involved. What began as a small group of friends and family has grown into a powerful community including hundreds of families now united in protecting children around the world. With a strong local base, 83 percent of GCA’s funding comes from Texas families, many of whom are your Dripping Springs neighbors. That generosity is reaching across continents and creating lasting safety for thousands of children annually, including kids like Recho.

Seven-year-old Recho was trafficked from her rural village in Tanzania under the false promise of a better education. Separated from her loving parents and subjected to abuse, her story could have ended in tragedy. But instead, GCA’s team intervened and Recho was rescued and joyfully reunited with her mother and father. Their embrace was filled with tears, relief, and deep love. With GCA’s support, Recho is now thriving at home and in school, and her abuser is behind bars.

At its core, GCA is anchored by three core values. First is the belief that this is God’s work: Every rescue, reunification, and restored life is ultimately to His credit. That foundation is matched by a commitment to excellence without compromise, grounded in the conviction that vulnerable children deserve nothing less than our very best. Finally, GCA practices radical stewardship, ensuring that every gift is used thoughtfully and strategically to create the greatest possible impact for children.

For those who want to help more children find safe, permanent families, there are many ways to become part of the GCA community. Supporters can meet with Ashlee Heiligman to learn more about the organization’s work (ashlee@globalchildadvocates.org), shop at Sojourn Studio (SojournStudio.org), or sponsor or attend GCA’s annual gala, Boots & Bling, taking place in October. To stay up to date on events and opportunities, subscribe to GCA’s monthly newsletter at GlobalChildAdvocates.org

In Thailand and Myanmar, GCA prevents trafficking every day by helping Burmese families fleeing war. Parents overwhelmed by poverty, instability, and crisis can feel intense pressure to give up their children to orphanages. Yet traffickers prey on their vulnerabilities, and without the protection of a family, children become far more vulnerable to exploitation and harm.

This is why GCA’s mission goes far beyond rescue. It’s about lasting protection and system-wide change, from helping individual children to developing national child welfare strategies. This includes strengthening families before separation occurs by providing early childhood development and education to identify and support at-risk children.

GCA reunifies children in orphanages with safe family members, supports kinship care to keep kids with relatives they know and trust, and provides temporary foster care while safe permanent families are found. Leaders also consult with government partners to shift national approaches to child protection.

Additionally, GCA provides vocational training to help families break the cycles that lead to vulnerability. One beautiful expression of this is Sojourn Studio, GCA’s social enterprise that equips women with dignified work creating handcrafted porcelain jewelry and ornaments. These jobs provide income and stability for mothers, empowering them to keep and protect their children.

Living Where They Brew Shapes Ghost Note’s Laid-Back, Welcoming Spirit

At Home at Ghost Note

ARTICLE BY MELISSA SVOBODA
PHOTOGRAPHY BY ISABELLA ALDRETE
“Our goal was always to have a neighborhood backyard out here, where people could just come and hang out with their friends, bring their families, have beer, listen to music.”

On a stretch of Hill Country land just off Ranch Road 12, guests settle in at picnic tables under a canopy of oaks, their dogs curled at their feet, their kids playing in the open space as live music becomes part of the afternoon soundtrack. The setting is comfortable, unhurried, and feels lived-in .

At Ghost Note Brewing, that sense of ease is intentional. Five years ago, owners Kenny and Thelma Coleman set out to create a place that felt casual, welcoming, and familiar. It helps that they live on the property themselves, shaping the brewery around the rhythms of daily life.

Combining home and business, Kenny and Thelma are quick to laugh about the unique arrangement. “It’s a short commute,” they admit. “We just put our shoes on and walk out here.”

For much of their lives, the Colemans lived in suburban neighborhoods, but they knew they wanted something different. Years of visiting Kenny’s mother in Wimberley drew them to the Hill Country, where they eventually took over a former wedding venue and transformed it into what is now Ghost Note Brewing.

The house on the property has stood since the 1970s and carries decades of Hill Country stories. Guests share memories of their grandparents living in the house, of sleeping in the bunkhouse, or of getting married at the wedding venue. “It has a lot of history,” Kenny says. “People are connected to it.”

As for Kenny and Thelma, they hadn’t originally planned to live there; the house was meant to be a temporary home while they built out the brewery. But then they never left. “If we didn’t have a business here, this is still where we would want to be,” Kenny says.

Making their home at the brewery, nestled into five wideopen acres, allows the Colemans to fully experience its natural beauty. “Every morning, I open all the doors, and I love to see the sun rising,” Kenny shares. Their dog, Xena, roams freely, while cats Charlie and Mickey lounge beneath the trees.

Evenings are just as magical. “The sky is so vast out here. We light up the fire pits and watch the stars,” Thelma adds.

That peaceful backdrop supports a busy operation. Open Thursday through Sunday, with live music nearly every weekend, Ghost Note offers six core porch-style beers complemented by a rotating lineup of thoughtfully crafted seasonal brews, along with house-made hard seltzer, wine, and non-alcoholic options. Food is just as easygoing and tasty, with a mix of local food trucks and pop-ups that keep the menu fresh. The brewery also features a dedicated event space, perfect for wedding groups, reunions, and more, and hosts special celebrations like Oktoberfest.

Along with a small but mighty team, Kenny and Thelma handle nearly every aspect of the business themselves, from maintenance and bookkeeping to social media. Head brewer Tyrell Elliott oversees all beer production, while general manager James Schneider runs the bar and taproom, supported by a handful of dedicated bartenders. “We’re knee-deep in the operation,” Kenny and Thelma say. “We wear a lot of hats, but we couldn’t do it without this team.”

Though living where you work might sound exhausting, for the Colemans, the brewery and their home are fully intertwined. “It’s a labor of love,” Thelma says. “We’re here all the time, but that’s the way we like it.”

Kenny adds, “This is where all our energy goes. We’re happily invested in this place.”

By tackling behind-the-scenes work earlier in the week, they’re able to be fully present during brewery hours, experiencing Ghost Note alongside their guests.

Music is at the heart of that experience. “When the band plays, we’re always out here,” they say. “We just enjoy sharing the music with people. I think that’s the best part of Ghost Note for both of us.”

Those shared moments naturally lead to connection. “People are really happy when they come to a brewery,” Kenny says. “We’ve made some really good friends here that feel more like family.”

From the beginning, that sense of belonging was the intention. “Our goal was always to have a neighborhood backyard out here, where people could just come and hang out with their friends, bring their families, have beer, listen to music,” says Kenny. “That was the vibe we were looking for.”

While Ghost Note continues to grow, so does the Coleman family, as both of their children recently welcomed babies. As new grandparents, Kenny admits, “We do have grandbabies pulling at us.”

And with that, their home takes on a new dimension. Looking around the property, Thelma says, “Right now we’re imagining all these trees with tire swings, and the kids riding their bikes on the sidewalks. We’re looking forward to having them out here.”

For the Colemans, living and working in the same place feels natural, with home and brewery woven together through landscape, music, beer, and the community they’ve built around them.

“We can’t remember life before this place,” Kenny says. “This is home.”

And they’ve invited all of us over.

FOR 2026 TRENDS

ARTICLE BY HEATHER BOGGESS PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROOTS PHOTOGRAPHY AND ANNIE STREVER GROUP

Less Noise, More Meaning

If 2024 and 2025 were about shaking off the Pinterest hangover, 2026 is about something quieter and, frankly, more grown up. We aren’t chasing novelty anymore; we’re looking for depth. Spaces that feel intentional, lived-in, designed for real people with real lives, not algorithm approval.

Here’s what’s actually gaining traction right now, and what’s quietly being shown the door.

WARM MINIMALISM

Minimalism didn’t fail us; we just took it too far. In 2026, the pendulum has settled into what I’d call warm restraint. Clean lines remain, but they’re softened with texture, patina, and materials that age well. Think plaster walls instead of drywall perfection; wood with grain you can see and feel; linen, wool, unlacquered metals. The goal isn’t empty; it’s calm. Minimal, but human.

EARTHY COLOR WITH A PULSE

The beige era is finally being put to rest and not replaced with chaos, thankfully. Instead, we are leaning into earthy, grounded palettes with real presence: olive, oxblood, tobacco, ochre, slate blue. These aren’t “accent colors.” They’re foundational to a grounded design. Color in 2026 isn’t about shock value. It’s about mood and depth. Rooms that feel anchored rather than styled for resale.

TEXTURE IS DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING

If you’re bored by smooth surfaces, good ... so is everyone else. Rugs are thicker, more tactile, and often imperfect by design. Floors are getting attention again, whether that’s wide-plank wood, painted patterns, or stone with visible variation. Showers showcasing zellige tiles are having a major moment. 2026 interiors are meant to be touched. If it looks good but feels flat, it’s probably not making the cut.

KITCHENS THAT FEEL ARCHITECTURAL, NOT TRENDY

One clear shift: fewer visual interruptions. Full-height stone backsplashes, integrated appliances, concealed storage. More wood tones and a mix of textures. The kitchen is becoming less decorative and architecturally cleaner, quieter, and more cohesive. It’s not about hiding function; it’s about not shouting it.

HausCollectiveInteriors.com | @hauscollectiveinteriors

INTERIORS THAT LOOK COLLECTED, NOT BOUGHT

Perfectly matched furniture sets are officially tired. What’s replacing them? Spaces that look layered over time, because they often are. Vintage mixed with custom. High and low. Old things next to new ones. We are prioritizing rooms that tell a story instead of proving a budget. The result feels more personal, more interesting, and far less disposable.

HOME IS WHERE STRENGTH BEGINS

When we hear the word home , we often think of comfort, right?  Our favorite coffee mug, our decades-old comfy chair, family memories made, and familiar routines. But home can also be the most powerful place to build strength, energy, and lifelong health for you and your family.

You don’t need a gym membership, fancy equipment, or a “perfect” routine to stay fit. You need intention and a willingness to move your body where you are.

Some of our least helpful habits tend to sneak in at home—like rolling out of bed and reaching straight for coffee or our phone, skipping breakfast, or sitting for hours without realizing it. Sound familiar? The good news is that simple shifts can completely change how you feel and set the intention for a great day.

Try starting your day with warm lemon water and a pinch of salt before coffee. It wakes up digestion, hydrates your body, and sets the tone for the day.

Step outside for early sunlight. Even five minutes helps regulate hormones, boost mood, and improve sleep later that night.

Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise, and it’s something most of us can do right from our front door. A walk in the morning, after meals to support digestion, or with family in the evening counts more than you think. Consistency beats intensity every time. Walking is a beautiful form of therapy and doesn’t have to feel like exercise.

Strength training doesn’t require a gym either. Think squats while your coffee brews, wall push-ups, lunges down the hallway or driveway. Strategically place a pull-up bar where you see it all the time, and do a pull-up every time you enter that room. A few dumbbells, TRX, or resistance bands at home can help maintain muscle, protect bones, and keep you feeling strong at any age.

During the workday, take movement breaks. Stand up. Stretch. Do 10 squats

or walk around the house. Your body was designed to move, not sit all day. You’ll feel refreshed and energized.

And don’t underestimate movement that feels like life, such as playing with your kids or grandkids, gardening, mowing the yard, dancing in the kitchen, or walking the dog.

Here’s what I hope you’ll remember: Your age is not your cage. You are never “too old” to build strength, energy, and confidence. Aging powerfully doesn’t require perfection—it requires showing up, right where you are.

Home isn’t just where you rest. Home is where your health begins.

Building Strong Foundations Through Homeschooling

ARTICLE BY SARAH LAMBIE | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ISABELLA ALDRETE

When Missy Wilson’s husband Scott first mentioned homeschooling their future children, she wasn't convinced.

“Initially, I was hesitant,” Missy admits. “I thought, I’m not sure I can do this.”

But after praying about it and talking to other homeschoolers, something shifted.

“I looked at their families and saw something I wanted.”

Today, Missy homeschools all four of her children: Levi (17), Savanah (15), Violet (13), and Everly (10).

Homeschooling has transformed their home into more than just a living space. It’s a classroom, a workshop, and the heart of their family’s life together.

BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS

For the Wilsons, homeschooling was never just about education.

“We wanted to raise happy and good people,” Missy explains. “Kids with godly character and compassion for those around them.”

The decision to center their children’s education at home has given the family something priceless: time together.

Their flexible schedule allows learning to happen anywhere: gathered on the couch, around the kitchen table, or outside on beautiful days.

The children have also gained invaluable hands-on experience working with their father, Scott, who works at local homebuilding company Strong Roots.

While Scott builds houses for other families, he’s also building character and skills in his own children.

“They’ve learned how to lay tile, clean houses, and work through punch lists,” Missy shares.

Just as Strong Roots creates solid foundations for homes throughout Dripping Springs, homeschooling is building a strong foundation for the Wilson children.

Levi works for a cybersecurity company and even won a contest that sent him to Apple’s headquarters. Violet gained business experience working at Life Anchored Home. Savanah and Violet run a crocheting business, teach others to crochet, and lead “Crochet for a Cause,” which donates handmade items to local organizations.

REAL-WORLD LEARNING

Recently, all four children pitched in to help when a Strong Roots client asked to move in early, demonstrating the work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit their parents have cultivated at home. One particularly meaningful experience came when the family helped Scott’s mother transition into home care. The children applied skills learned working with their dad—installing ceiling fans and doorlocks, repainting, and replacing bathroom fixtures—to get their grandmother’s house ready to rent.

The best homeschooling memory? “Seeing the lightbulb go on when they realize they know how to read,” Missy says. “I got to do that with each child. Being able to witness that is such a gift.”

Whether at home or serving others, the Wilsons have found that their most important lessons happen when they’re together.

“Homeschooling bleeds into life,” Missy says. “We’re always teaching our kids.”

ADVICE FOR FAMILIES CONSIDERING HOMESCHOOL

Missy’s message to hesitant parents is simple: “You can do it because you’re the most invested in your child and you love them the most.”

She encourages families to tap into Dripping Springs’ supportive homeschool community, which offers co-ops, curriculum recommendations, and opportunities to connect.

Her goal? Raising lifelong learners who can teach themselves anything they want to know. And she believes any parent can do the same.

Lunaroya: A Thoughtfully Designed Hill Country Community Where Preservation, Architecture, and Intentional Living Intersect

ARTICLE BY SOUTHERN LAND COMPANY | PHOTOGRAPHY
Architect: Lake Flato

Along a quiet stretch of Barton Creek in Dripping Springs, a new residential community is taking shape with uncommon intention. Lunaroya is not defined by scale or spectacle, but by restraint, design, and a deep respect for the Hill Country landscape that surrounds it.

Lunaroya is a rare offering—a private, gated community of just 66 estate-scale homesites that balances privacy, land stewardship, and architectural integrity. Homesites span generous acreage and are thoughtfully placed among legacy live oaks, native vegetation, and over a mile of untouched Barton Creek, opening to long views of the land, canyon, and sky. Rather than reshaping the land, Lunaroya is defined by it.

Architect: Lake Flato
Architect: Lake Flato
Architect: Lake Flato

At the heart of the community is the Lunaroya Club, a membership amenity designed to support wellness, connection, and daily life. The Club was designed by Lake Flato, the acclaimed Texasbased firm honored with the AIA Gold Medal, the highest award for American architects. It reflects more than 40 years of architecture rooted in craft, landscape, and community.

The Club is envisioned as an open and grounded gathering place offering spaces for fitness, spa and recovery, social gathering, and a demonstration kitchen for shared meals and events. Programming intentionally centers on how residents live and connect, rather than on excess or formality. Construction is planned to begin in 2027 to allow for thoughtful design and integration into the land.

Architecturally, Lunaroya embraces a modern yet timeless Hill Country expression anchored in respect for the land itself. From the beginning, the approach to development has been guided by preservation of natural systems, with homes carefully sited to follow existing contours, protect water flow, and retain mature trees so they feel naturally placed within the landscape.

The design guidelines favor simple, well-proportioned forms, honest materials, and strong connections between indoor and outdoor living while prioritizing low-impact development and long-term stewardship. Expansive glazing, generous overhangs, and regionally appropriate materials such as native stone, wood, metal, and concrete create homes that feel both refined and relaxed. Rather than prescribing a single style, the guidelines encourage thoughtful interpretation and allow a range of architectural expressions that share a common respect for scale, craftsmanship, and place.

Lunaroya is backed by Southern Land Company, a nationally recognized developer known for creating thoughtful, design-led communities across the country. Southern Land has nearly four decades of experience in luxury residential, mixed-use, and hospitality projects. Its vertically integrated team of in-house experts—from land planners to horticulturists—brings vision, financial strength, and meticulous execution to every project. Lunaroya represents the company’s first custom-home community in Texas, a milestone that underscores the care and attention invested in its planning and delivery.

That commitment is reinforced by a strong local presence. Dan Hutts, Southern Land’s local lead on Lunaroya, is a Texas native who lives in Dripping Springs and has spent decades building custom homes throughout the Hill Country. His deep familiarity with the region, its land, and its people has guided the project from the beginning. Lunaroya reflects a long and patient search for the right piece of land and a belief that Dripping Springs deserves a community designed to honor its character rather than redefine it.

Beyond the gates, Lunaroya benefits from its proximity to both the natural beauty of the Hill Country and the cultural energy of Austin. Just 25 miles west of the city, residents enjoy access to dining, music, arts, and travel while returning home to a quieter rhythm shaped by water, oaks, and open space. Trails wind along Barton Creek and through the property, offering daily opportunities for movement, reflection, and connection to the land.

As Lunaroya continues to take shape, the community will celebrate its grand opening this spring. Those interested are invited to experience the land firsthand by scheduling a private tour or joining the upcoming opening event.

At-Home Glow

Simple Steps for Radiant Skin at Home

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of skincare products on the market. But understanding why our skin ages helps simplify it.

Starting in our 20s, we lose about 1 to 2 percent of our collagen and elastin every year. That loss accelerates in our 40s and drops significantly after menopause. On top of that, our skin is constantly under attack from ultraviolet (UV) rays and free radicals—unstable molecules from the sun and pollution that break down our collagen and cause uneven pigmentation. In my office, our primary goal is combating this loss of skin architecture. We focus on increasing collagen, preventing UV and free radical damage, and boosting circulation.

Powerful treatments like BroadBand Light (BBL), Halo, and deep laser resurfacing can combat this structural decline. However, I always tell my patients to think of me as their personal trainer. We can do the heavy lifting in the “gym” (the office) to reset the clock, but you have to maintain a healthy “diet” (your home routine) to sustain those results. If you rely solely on procedures without consistent daily care, the aging process will outpace our efforts.

Living in Dripping Springs, we are lucky to have an active, outdoor lifestyle, but that means we need to be extra diligent about protection. I believe consistency is key, so I prefer a simple, effective routine over a complicated one. Here are a few medical-grade essentials that fit easily into your day and keep your skin resilient between visits.

The

Power Of Retinoids

“I always tell my patients to think of me as their personal trainer. If you rely solely on procedures without consistent daily care, the aging process will outpace our efforts.”
- Sarah Saxon, M.D.

A high-quality retinoid is the cornerstone of anti-aging. It exfoliates the outer layer of skin and stimulates collagen production to rebuild that lost architecture. Beyond aesthetics, there is strong evidence that this increase in cell turnover can reduce the incidence of precancerous lesions. I recommend AlphaRet Intensive from SkinBetter Science because it delivers results comparable to prescription-grade tretinoin but is formulated with lactic acid to add moisture, avoiding the peeling and sensitivity often associated with Retin-A.

PHOTOGRAPHY

True radiance starts internally. I recommend Xtresse gummy vitamins to support hair and skin health. They are unique because they contain NAD, a critical molecule for cellular energy that naturally declines as we age. Combined with anti-inflammatories like pumpkin seed extract and taurine, they defend against oxidative stress and provide the essential building blocks for robust hair follicles and resilient skin.

Living in the Hill Country demands serious protection that fits an active lifestyle. I love Colorescience because it doubles as high-performance makeup. Its “Flex” sunscreen adapts to your skin tone for foundation-like coverage, while the mineral Color Balms allow you to swipe on a quick pop of protected color to cheeks and lips. It is the perfect way to look polished while running errands without spending hours in front of a mirror.

For routine maintenance, the CO2 Lift Mask is a powerhouse. It utilizes carboxytherapy to trigger the “Bohr effect,” rushing oxygen-rich blood to the skin’s surface. This surge in oxygenation and hydration dramatically speeds up recovery and leaves you with an instant, glass-like glow. It is the perfect tool for calming inflammation after travel or prepping your skin to look its absolute best before a big event.

ARCHITECTURE, REIMAGINED

From the beginning, Maggie Wylie understood architecture to be both an art and a discipline. “I was raised by an engineer and an artist,” she explains. “Creative exploration and precision problem-solving carried equal weight in my house growing up.”

That daily balance shaped how Wylie sees the world and, ultimately, how she designs within it. It led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in architecture at the University of Arizona before beginning her professional career in Austin.

Wylie’s formative years were spent working in design-build environments and construction project management, experiences that grounded her design instincts in real-world constraints. “I saw firsthand the challenges ideas face as they move from paper to construction,” she says. “I also witnessed how often clients,

architects, and builders failed to truly collaborate, too frequently talking past one another instead of working toward a shared goal.”

That experience led Wylie to found ĒSO, an Austin-based architecture and design studio built around a deceptively simple premise: Architecture should be joyful, collaborative, and clear. From the outset, ĒSO set out to realign a traditionally fragmented process by bringing design and construction together from day one. “ĒSO takes a holistic approach to architecture,” Wylie explains, “pairing strong conceptual thinking with deep construction knowledge to guide informed, value-based decisions from concept through completion.”

The firm’s name reflects that philosophy. ĒSO is derived from the Greek root meaning “within,” a reference to the studio’s

commitment to getting to the core of every project by designing dynamic residential and commercial environments from the inside out. “We partner imagination with expertise,” Wylie says, “to create solutions that are both beautifully designed and rooted in practical reality.”

Collaboration is central to ĒSO’s work. The studio’s open, transparent approach aligns architect, builder, and client from the very beginning, establishing a shared understanding that carries through every phase of a project. Wylie and her team serve as trusted advisors throughout, helping clients navigate complexity with clarity and confidence. The goal, she notes, is to transform what can be an overwhelming experience into one that feels calmer, more intentional, and manageable.

Bridle Path
Bridle Path

ĒSO’s work can be found across Central Texas and has been featured in Dwell Magazine, Austin Home Magazine , and on the American Institute of Architects Austin Homes Tour. Wylie herself has been recognized by the Texas Society of Architects and included in Spectacular Women of Architecture and Design

At its core, ĒSO is guided by the belief that architecture isn’t about imposing a signature style. It’s about listening, balancing, and problem-solving with care. The result is work that is practical and poetic, fun and functional, helping clients create thoughtful, transformative, and beautifully balanced spaces that bring a sense of elegance to everyday life. ESO-Arch.com | @ESO_architecture

Bridle Path Residence and Casita

The ĒSO-designed Bridle Path Residence reimagines a 1950s split-level with a modern approach that balances compact private spaces and generous living areas, maximizing daily use while minimizing overall square footage. The result is a 2,800-square-foot main residence paired with a 400-square-foot detached accessory dwelling unit (ADU), unified by a bold yet refined material palette. By utilizing the existing carport for added space, the design gained breathing room without compromising outdoor areas or site character. The project was shaped through close collaboration between architect, client, and contractor from start to finish.

Patty and Paul Martino with Penny and Jennifer Neill

Bringing

Home Penny

Have you ever heard the saying, “Home is where your dog is”? For pet lovers, it rings true. Our dogs are our family. So when they disappear, home just isn’t the same.

That’s what happened on Christmas Day when Penny—the friendly, fluffy mini Aussiedoodle belonging to Paul and Patty Martino—slipped out of the home she was visiting and vanished.

For the next two weeks, what began as one family’s worry became a community-wide mission to bring Penny home. Through neighbors, social media, and a local nonprofit devoted to reuniting lost pets with their families, Penny became, in many ways, everyone’s dog.

How Hill Country Rescue & Recovery Helped Turn a Community’s Hope Into a Happy Ending

Paul and Patty live nearby in Wimberley but were out of state for the holidays while their daughter’s family cared for Penny in Dripping Springs. When they received the phone call that Penny was missing, they were shaken but hopeful. Trying not to panic, they told themselves that someone would certainly find their friendly pup.

But days passed with no sightings and no calls. The Martinos cut their trip short and returned to Texas to join the search. “It was hard,” recalls Patty. “If your pet dies, you grieve, but then you move on. But this was two solid weeks of wondering, ‘Where’s my dog?’”

Paul and Patty’s daughter Jill Allen immediately posted about Penny online, and the next day Jennifer Neill stepped in to help. Neill is the founder of Hill Country Rescue & Recovery, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting the people, pets, and community of Dripping Springs and surrounding areas. She began by sharing Penny’s story through flyers and social media, coordinating search efforts and encouraging people to report sightings.

Several days later, there was finally a breakthrough when Penny was spotted miles away in a neighborhood near Dripping Springs High School. A video from a neighbor confirmed what everyone hoped— she looked healthy and was still wearing her collar. Neill and the Martinos blanketed the area with signage, Neill set up cameras and feeding stations, and they waited.

Then came a moment that felt heartbreaking. Paul and Patty were nearby when Penny suddenly appeared, running toward them as neighbors followed. “We’re standing in the street, and here she comes,” they recall. “And then, she takes a sharp turn around the corner and goes right past us!”

Neill explains that lost dogs often enter a survival state. Frightened and disoriented, they don’t behave as you would expect; they may not even respond to familiar voices or faces. Penny had been on her own for days, and she was in fight-or-flight mode. “It was devastating,” Patty shares. “She is so attached to me, and she literally just ran by us.”

By then, Dripping Springs was deeply invested. Sightings poured in as Penny crossed Highway 290 several times and moved across properties. Neill mapped Penny’s path while thousands followed the story online. “People really connected to this,” Patty says. “We were like, ‘Penny’s going viral!’”

Property owners gave them access to acres of land, drove them around to search the grounds, and allowed Neill to set up cameras, feed stations, and traps. “We were very thankful for the support of the community,” the Martinos say. “Everyone really went out of their way to help.”

After 13 days—amid freezing temperatures, New Year’s Eve fireworks, and unfamiliar surroundings— Penny was spotted at a horse stable off Creek Road. Attracted to cat food that had been set out on the

Jennifer Neill with Hill Country Rescue & Recovery

property, she ultimately entered a humane trap set by Neill, triggering an alert. Penny was then safely transported to an enclosed barn, where she was reunited with her family.

“She didn’t look like a dog that had been out in the wilderness for two weeks,” Patty says. Aside from minor abrasions, Penny was healthy and clearly happy to go home.

Neill says, “Some people might say I shouldn’t have gotten the whole town involved, but it’s what brought this dog home. Our community is so wonderful. It was amazing seeing how everybody came together.”

Paul and Patty may be her family, but for two weeks, Penny belonged to all of us. And with the help of Hill Country Rescue & Recovery, it was the Dripping Springs community that ultimately carried her home.

HILL COUNTRY RESCUE & RECOVERY

In early 2025, Jennifer Neill came across a social media post about a missing 16-year-old dog in her neighborhood and jumped in to help. Despite tireless efforts, there were no reported sightings, the dog was never found, and Neill couldn’t shake the feeling that a thermal drone might have made the difference. But while the technology was powerful, the cost felt prohibitive.

Then the July 4 floods hit Central Texas. Compelled to help with rescue and recovery efforts, Neill again found herself wishing she had that drone. Not long after, while getting her oil changed at Grease Monkey, an employee asked about her work. When Neill explained—and mentioned the thermal drone—the business owner offered to sponsor the drone for search and rescue efforts. That drone was later used in the search for Penny.

With that, Hill Country Rescue & Recovery was born. Based in Dripping Springs, the nonprofit fills a critical gap, serving an area often outside the reach of Austin-based rescue groups. The organization has two missions: mobilizing quickly when disasters strike Central Texas and—between emergencies—helping local families find lost pets.

Neill, a licensed therapist with both personal and volunteer experience in disaster recovery and search and rescue, brings calm and clarity to people in crisis. She has been involved with animal rescue since 2018, and her lostpet recovery methods are thoughtful and multifaceted, drawing on her experience as a TEXSAR volunteer. Her approach combines wildlife tracking, meticulous mapping, topography analysis, and an intuition about how dogs move through unfamiliar terrain. “It’s not an exact science,” she says. “Every dog is different.”

Hill Country Rescue & Recovery never charges for its services. Funded entirely by donations and sponsors, the 501(c) (3) nonprofit relies on community support to protect what matters most: people, pets, and the community.

MY ULTIMATE GARAGE

Father-Son Team Helps Homeowners Turn Overlooked Spaces Into Points of Pride

For My Ultimate Garage, the garage is not an afterthought— it’s a foundation.

Founded and owned by Matt Molander and his son, Dripping Springs High School graduate Gabriel Molander, My Ultimate Garage is redefining how homeowners think about one of the most overlooked spaces in the house. Through custom epoxy flooring, tailored storage solutions, and fully personalized layouts, the team transforms cluttered garages into clean, functional, and design-forward extensions of the home.

For Matt, building a business in Dripping Springs carries deep meaning. “It’s an amazing feeling of gratitude,” he says. “Great town, great people—now a great opportunity to build a hometown business.”

As for the ultimate garage, “It’s the homeowner’s vision. We want our clients to say, ‘This is my ultimate garage.’ We love providing the solution.”
— MATT MOLANDER

Like many successful local companies, My Ultimate Garage didn’t begin with a formal business plan. It began with a phone call.

“A friend called and wanted help organizing his garage,” Matt recalls. “He asked if I knew anyone who could help. Because of my 25 years of experience in construction, I told him I could do it.” The friend shared his vision, the work was completed, and My Ultimate Garage was born.

What became immediately clear was the untapped potential of the space. “The garage is neglected,” he explains. “It has so much potential and can add real value to a home.”

That realization shaped the company’s focus: helping homeowners rethink their garages as purposeful, valuable parts of their homes.

The family is no stranger to collaboration, as Matt operates another business with Gabriel’s older brother and one of his sisters. “We just work well together,” Matt says. “It seemed like a natural fit.”

Father and son offer distinct strengths. “Gabriel brings work ethic, vision, and he’s teachable,” Matt says. “I bring experience.” Together, they blend fresh perspective with seasoned know-how.

Running a family business has its rewards and challenges. “The most rewarding part is succeeding together,” Matt explains. “The challenge is that even when the goal is the same, sometimes we have different ideas on how to get there.”

For many homeowners, garages are simply storage areas, but My Ultimate Garage helps clients see what’s possible. The most common request is familiar: “People tell us, ‘I want my garage to be more organized, but I don’t know where to start.’ That’s where we come in.”

My Ultimate Garage specializes in epoxy flooring, shelving, and custom systems. These solutions go far beyond off-the-shelf options. “We have the people and the connections for professional products and professional installation,” Matt says.

Their process is straightforward: understanding the client’s vision, on-site consultation,

estimate and approval, scheduling, installation, and final walkthrough.

Educating clients also plays a key role. “For flooring, homeowners should look at heat rating, durability, and preparation techniques,” Matt explains. “For storage, looks aren’t everything. You have to consider how it will be used and what the budget is; then we match the customer with the right system.”

A favorite project involved a three-car garage featuring metallic epoxy flooring, a car lift, custom cabinetry, and a loft with a couch and television. Other transformations are even more unexpected. “One homeowner wanted a garage and dance studio,” Matt says. “We made that vision a reality.”

No two projects are alike, and this variety keeps the work rewarding. “We love it all,” he adds. “A satisfied client is our favorite project.”

Since launching, My Ultimate Garage has been warmly embraced by the local community. “Dripping Springs has been very receptive,” Matt says. “What we enjoy most is that we’re local. We’re neighbors.”

That shared sense of place builds trust and connection. Clients aren’t just hiring contractors; they’re working with fellow community members.

Growth is on the horizon: “Outdoor kitchens and backyard spaces are next,” Matt says.

Still, the core philosophy remains the same. “It’s not just a garage,” he explains. “It’s an extension of your home.” Regardless of neighborhood or style, homeowners want usable, clean spaces that add value.

As for the ultimate garage, Matt puts it simply: “It’s the homeowner’s vision. We want our clients to say, ‘This is my ultimate garage.’ We love providing the solution.”

And when the project is finished, success is easy to spot: “The smile on their face. That’s better than any compliment we can get.”

In Dripping Springs, that combination of craftsmanship, honesty, and family-driven values is turning garages into points of pride.

THE VISION:

Value by Design

“Most people think of their garages as storage,” Matt says. “They don’t know what’s possible, or they think they can’t afford upgrades.” To help bridge that gap, the team provides clear visual guidance. “We give clients a vision for the space and create 3D renderings so they can actually see it.”

The transformation often delivers strong returns. “The cost of transforming your garage is much less than the value it adds to the home,” Matt notes.

A well-designed garage changes daily life. “When you pull into your driveway, press the garage door opener, and the door opens, you smile,” Matt says. “You pull into the garage and feel proud.” Clean spaces tend to stay that way. “When people have a space that’s clean and organized, they respect it.”

To Do Better Dared

THE WAYPOINT DIFFERENCE: FAMILY VALUES, ETHICAL CRAFTSMANSHIP, AND A COMMITMENT TO HILL COUNTRY HOMES

For Michael Kastel, owner of Waypoint Roofing, family serves as the “why” behind everything he does. This philosophy shines through in his team’s commitment to clients, treating every individual with respect and keeping their best interests in mind, just as they would treat members of their own family.

Growing up in the trades, Kastel developed an early understanding of the standards that define quality building science and design. Although his father started a large-scale commercial renovation company when Kastel was only four, he never intended to take over that family business. He wanted to pursue a different path. However, a poor roofing experience on his own home in 2023, along with a challenge from the contractor that “if you could do better, I dare you to try,” led him to start Waypoint Roofing.

“EVERY PROJECT IS RECEIVING MY FAMILY’S PERSONAL INVESTMENT.” - MICHAEL KASTEL

At first, Waypoint was simply a means to protect neighbors from the unethical practices and substandard work he had personally experienced. He dedicated himself to the craft, performing over 100 repairs on neighbors’ homes while working full-time in the tech industry with a newborn baby at home.

Word-of-mouth referrals began coming in so quickly that he realized he needed to hire a team. He eventually took on his new business full-time with a firm commitment to “deliver a better contracting experience to our Hill Country neighbors.” This dedication has earned Waypoint over 200 five-star reviews, a number-one Google rating, and the Best of Dripping Springs award for roofing excellence.

What makes Waypoint different? It is a process focused on providing the transparency that was missing in Kastel’s personal roofing experience. Every project begins with a 40-point inspection thoroughly reviewed with the client. These inspections are free and are encouraged every two to three years so a homeowner potentially has a jump on a problem before it becomes costly.

Waypoint also utilizes a proprietary app that allows clients to see real-time updates on installations and view documented inspections. “Many customers will tell us they’ve never had a contracting experience like ours before,” Kastel notes. “We call this the Waypoint Difference.”

Being family-owned and operated is an important piece of Waypoint’s journey. “It means every project is receiving my family’s personal investment,” Kastel says. He is present on every project at some point of the build, while his wife, Madison, supports their children, Blakely (3) and Jett (1), at home. “Every project we commit to is receiving equal investment from both of us, just in different ways.”

When asked about future goals, Kastel says, “To give generously. It is our mission statement. We believe business is a vehicle for change. We look forward to more opportunities to serve this community through our talents and giving.”

LET’S STAY HOME

MARRY ME CHICKEN AND CREAMY PESTO PASTA FOR A COZY DATE NIGHT WITHOUT LEAVING THE HOUSE

In Central Texas, March is the perfect time to slow down, stay in, and create something special at home. As a professional chef, I’ve cooked this dish for couples who want all the romance of an Italian restaurant without leaving their kitchen. This Marry Me Chicken with creamy pesto pasta is rich, comforting, and made to be shared—an ideal recipe for date night, good conversation, and a little extra love at the table. Pair it with a bright glass of Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay, and remember to always cook with joy and love.

Marry Me Chicken and Creamy Pesto Pasta

Serves 2

INGREDIENTS

Marry Me Chicken:

• 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts (organic)

• ¼ cup organic flour

• 1 tablespoon olive oil

• 2 tablespoons butter

• 2 shallots

• 2 cloves minced garlic

• ½ cup organic heavy cream

• ½ cup chicken stock or homemade organic bone broth

• 1 teaspoon red chili flakes

• 1/3 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped

• ¼ cup fresh basil

• ¼ teaspoon oregano

• 1 teaspoon sea salt

• 1 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper

• ¼ cup dry white wine

Pesto Pasta:

• 1 package pasta of your choice

• ½ cup olive oil

• 1/3 cup toasted pine nuts

• 3 cloves fresh garlic

• 1 teaspoon sea salt

• 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese

• 1 bunch fresh basil

DIRECTIONS

Prepare the Pesto Pasta

1. In a food processor, combine olive oil, toasted pine nuts, garlic, sea salt, Parmesan cheese, and fresh basil. Blend until smooth.

2.  Prepare pasta of choice according to package directions. Drain and transfer to a medium bowl.

3. Pour the pesto over the warm pasta and toss to coat evenly. Cover and set aside.

Prepare the Marry Me Chicken

4. Pound the chicken breasts thin. Season with sea salt and pepper, then dredge lightly in flour.

5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Add the chicken and cook 3 to 4 minutes per side, until well seared and the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees. Remove to a plate and set aside.

Make the Sauce

6. Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the skillet, then stir in the garlic and chili flakes. Cook briefly, being careful not to burn the garlic.

7. Add the shallots and sun-dried tomatoes. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, until softened and fragrant.

8. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle boil.

9. Stir in the chicken stock and white wine. Cook, stirring frequently, then add the Parmesan and oregano.

Finish & Serve

10. Once the sauce is simmering, add the chicken back to the pan and spoon the sauce over it until well coated.

11. Sprinkle with fresh chopped basil just before serving.

12. Serve the chicken over the prepared pesto pasta. Enjoy! MarissaFiskCatering.com

ARTICLE BY DRINK TO REMEMBER PHOTOGRAPHY BY

There’s a certain magic that settles in when spring finally shows up. Windows are open, doors stay cracked, and the line between inside and out starts to blur in the best possible way. This season feels like a personal invitation to slow down, step onto the patio, and enjoy the view. The fairways turn greener, the afternoons stretch longer, and the clink of ice in a glass becomes part of the soundtrack.

And if your home is on the range, there’s a good chance you’ve already met the Transfusion. It’s the unofficial official cocktail of golf, and for good reason. Easy and refreshing, it’s the kind of drink you mix without measuring twice and enjoy while watching the last groups roll in.

What makes the Transfusion so perfect for spring entertaining is its balance. The brightness of fresh lime juice cuts through the sweetness of concord grape juice, while ginger ale adds just enough sparkle to keep things lively. It’s light enough for a warm afternoon but still feels like a proper cocktail. There’s no blender required, no complicated steps, and absolutely no need to leave your own backyard, unless you’re chasing a tee time.

This is the kind of drink that fits seamlessly into life on the range or a casual Friday evening on the porch. Serve it in a Collins glass if you’re feeling polished, or a rocks glass if your vibe is more laid-back. Garnish with a lime wedge for brightness or frozen grapes for a playful nod to the drink’s signature flavor.

Cheers, Eddy
