WE TOLD YOU YOUR TIME WOULD COME, DIDN’T WE, GUYS? Since the May issue was all about the ladies, we thought it was only fair the June issue of Draper Lifestyle be dedicated to the gents of our community. While we will celebrate the dads in our lives on Father’s Day, June 17, you don’t have to be a father to find something you’ll enjoy in these pages. Now that you’ve met the female movers and shakers of the community, we’ll introduce you to some influential men in this month’s feature. Learn about what makes them unique and how they’re impacting the community. If you haven’t already, you’ll probably run into one—or several—of them out on the town! Preparing for a night out with the guys? We’ll show you the perfect places in the community to grab a drink, watch the big game or just catch up with pals. If you’d rather stay in, we provide you the perfect recipe to whip up. It’s guaranteed to

We also introduce you to a local duo who share their favorite things with us. Finally, we put a spotlight on men’s health. It’s been months since many of us made New Year’s resolution to focus on our health and now’s the perfect time for a check-in. Happy Father’s Day and happy June, gents.

TAYLOR’S BOATS Taylor’s Boats Just south of Ikea off the Bangerter exit, Taylor’s Boats has been in business for 30 years, 11 at its current location. Taylor Richards founded the business because of his love for family time spent boating and creating memories on the water. “Wake surfing has exploded in this area and across the nation, and the boats we carry are the best surf boats in the industry," Brady Hartvigsen, Taylor’s marketing director, says. "It’s an exciting action sport, but easy to learn for all ages, great for families or groups of friends.” Taylor’s sells Malibu, Axis and Cobalt brand boats along with accessories and gear from Hyperlite, Phase Five Wakesurfers and HO Sports. Check out the Malibu 23LSV, a best-selling all-around boat.
SOUTH VALLEY HARLEY SHOP South Valley Harley Shop With Harley-Davidson clothing, parts, service and sales, there’s much to admire in this 15,000-square foot-shop located at 8886 Sandy Parkway. Al Brown, general manager of the business that’s been open since 2000, describes it as local ma and pa shop. “We cultivate friends out of customers,” he says. Prices range from $5,000 for used bikes to up to $43,000 for an ultimate model. Summer is a great time to buy because the store has its best inventory of the year, making choosing your model and color a breeze. The shop offers news rider education classes, and on Saturdays, you can stop in for free coffee and donuts or food trucks on-site.

After the proposed homeless shelter town hall took a negative tone, Chad and friends had the idea to establish I Am Draper service day. They invited organizations that help those in need to meet Draper residents at Corner Canyon High School last August, resulting in the donation of hygiene kits, food, clothing and blood. Residents also signed up to volunteer at those community partner organizations. I Am Draper will happen again September 8.

COMMUNITY MAN Cal Wadsworth Cal Wadsworth grew up on a Draper farm with six brothers in a historic Victorian home they remodeled. His father started Ralph Wadsworth Construction in 1975 to provide employment for his sons and others in the community. Cal and two of his brothers continue to work there today. Cal donates his time to a program that provides emergency home repair and accessibility to elderly, disabled and low-income families in the valley. He also helped establish The Ridge Café in Suncrest, a philanthropic endeavor financed by a Wadsworth family member that provides a place for locals to have a meal and connect.

T E E N A D V O C AT E Levi Ernest Levi Ernest founded Every Teen Seen with the mission of reducing the teen suicide rate in Utah by 50 percent. The husband and father of four battled addiction and severe depression and came out on the other side wanting to help others. “Surviving the experience awoke something inside of me," he says. "I decided to see what I might do to make the world a better place." His organization does school assemblies, hosts weekly activities for teens in the form of roller skating at Classic Skating in Sandy every Monday night and partners with other suicide prevention organizations.
