Kid's and Pet's Issue?
Let me handle
this....
Hello there (insert bark):
Wow, you are very attractive ..I mean as humans go I guess. My name is Buddy. I am apparently owned by the Publisher's mother...aka my mom. She keeps calling us brothers. Matt, the Publisher seems to think its awkward. Has he ever thought about how I feel? I'm cute, fast, give kisses and just need a car ride to Costco to make my day. Anyway, I digress.
I would like to welcome you to the infamous Kids and Pets Issue of Denver North. I am so happy to introduce this amazing issue that not only highlights amazing stories to entertain and inform, but also allows parents, children and the critters to enjoy summer to the fullest.
Please don't leave us in a hot car; or those kid things.. lol I want to thank you for listening to a dog, it doesn't happen often. Before anyone catches me, if you follow us on #denvernorthcitylifestyle and comment the word BUDDY, I will give you a portable water/food bottle for your critter.
Stay Safe..
Your Friend, Buddy

A New Take on Wellness
HydraMed is Unveiling Groundbreaking Home IV Services: HydraMed Wellness Rx
ARTICLE BY MONTY MONTGOMERY
In the wake of COVID and its detrimental effects on our health and well-being, this Denver office is completely changing the game of wellness.
HydraMed, a mobile IV therapy service right off of Dahlia Street, recently unveiled a groundbreaking addition to its IV therapy services: HydraMed Wellness Rx. With a focus on patient-specific, in-home treatment, the new program takes a holistic approach to wellness, starting with hormones and optimizing individuals' lives based on their own unique needs.
Courtney, a licensed family nurse practitioner who’s spearheading the HydraMed Wellness Rx program, believes in tailoring treatment plans to the individual. Her philosophy centers around the promotion of a healthier lifestyle, along with avoiding blanket treatments, beginning with the
foundational building blocks of what makes each individual unique.
For men, testosterone optimization plays a vital role. For women, while testosterone is still a consideration, hormone balance is the central focus. According to Courtney, “keeping your hormones in a state of equilibrium is crucial, not only for physical vitality, but also for brain function and bone health. If we hope to make lasting health changes, it’s essential to start at the foundational levelthe hormones.”
HydraMed Wellness Rx ultimately aims to go beyond shallow, disingenuous anti-aging approaches, by instead boosting our health and well-being in holistic ways. In other words, Courtney and her team seek to get to the root cause of health issues, rather than merely masking symptoms with a pill, and are dedicated to empowering their clients with

the knowledge to heal up and optimize their bodies depending on their unique needs. No two bodies are the same, after all.
Courtney and the HydraMed team firmly believe that everyone has their own distinct needs, and that “a one-size-fits-all approach is mundane.” With this in mind, HydraMed Wellness Rx develops treatment plans tailored to the individual, rejecting the notion of "normal." Starting with hormone optimization as the baseline, HydraMed scales up treatment options based on each client's unique health objectives. Whether it's losing weight to look a little slimmer in a bathing suit for the summer or incorporating fitness peptides into your therapy program to pack on some muscle, HydraMed is there to support clients in achieving whatever outcome they desire.
As a licensed family nurse practitioner with extensive healthcare experience, Courtney has a rich background in cardiology and ICU nursing. Her desire to make a difference in the prevention and wellness arena stems from a dissatisfaction with the Band-Aid approach to disease management, which led her to head up HydraMed’s Wellness Rx program.
As a healthcare provider, Courtney also works to be a trusted consultant for her patients. She may offer different options and opinions than most primary caregivers, due to her core focus always being to equip clients with the tools they need to take charge of their own well-being. By actively listening to her patients' concerns, Courtney provides them with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about the direction of their health and overall well-being.
In the wake of the pandemic, she also noticed how many individuals find themselves exhausted and battling chronic fatigue. High cortisol levels due to stress hinder progress towards optimal health. According to Courtney, “Post-pandemic, we’re oozing cortisol, that feeling of ‘fight or flight,’ and we can’t seem to get ahead health-wise.”
In response, HydraMed Wellness Rx is helping patients reclaim their vitality by offering personalized treatments that target fatigue directly. By addressing cortisol imbalances and implementing strategies to overcome the challenges of modern life, Courtney is the driving force behind patients attempting to move beyond mere survival, and instead pushing them toward a place of true health.
HydraMed Rx isn’t yet listed on the company’s website, but it’ll be rolling out shortly. In the meantime, you can check out their Mobile IV Therapy services in detail on their website: hydramed.com . You can also call (800) 801-8525 to book an IV Therapy session.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS
BODIES BY PERSEVERANCE
Strength training, balance and stability exercises, and plyometrics are all important components of a well-rounded training program for young athletes. These types of exercises help improve overall athletic performance, reduce the risk of injuries, and enhance coordination and agility. However, it's crucial to consider the age and developmental stage of the athletes, as well as their individual abilities and goals. Here's an overview of each component:
1. Strength Training: Strength training exercises involve resistance training to improve muscular strength, power, and endurance. For young athletes, it's important to focus on proper technique and form while using age-appropriate loads. Here are some key points to consider:
• Emphasize bodyweight exercises: Push-ups, squats, lunges, and planks are effective exercises that use bodyweight as resistance.
• Gradually introduce external resistance: As athletes progress and demonstrate proper form, you can incorporate resistance bands, medicine balls, or light dumbbells to provide additional challenge.
• Prioritize compound movements: Exercises that involve multiple muscle groups, such as deadlifts, rows, and overhead presses, are beneficial for overall strength development.
• Ensure proper supervision and instruction: Work with a qualified strength and conditioning coach or personal trainer to ensure safe and effective training.
2. Balance and Stability: Balance and stability exercises help athletes develop core strength, improve body control, and enhance proprioception. Here are some examples:
• Single-leg exercises: Single-leg balance, single-leg squats, and single-leg reaches help improve balance and stability.
• Balance board exercises: Utilize balance boards or stability discs to challenge balance and coordination.
• Yoga and Pilates: These practices promote core strength, flexibility, and body awareness, all of which contribute to improved balance.
3. Plyometrics: Plyometric exercises focus on explosive movements to enhance power and speed. However, proper technique, landing mechanics, and adequate strength are crucial prerequisites for safe and effective plyometric training. Here are some considerations:
• Start with foundational movements: Begin with basic plyometric exercises like squat jumps, box jumps, and lateral jumps.
• Progress gradually: Increase the intensity, height, or distance of the exercises as athletes develop strength and proficiency.
ARTICLE BY COURTNEY SAMUEL
• Allow adequate rest and recovery: Plyometric exercises place significant stress on the musculoskeletal system, so ensure proper recovery time between sessions.
It’s essential to tailor the training program to the specific needs and abilities of each athlete, while prioritizing proper form, safety, and gradual progression. Consulting with a qualified strength and conditioning professional who specializes in working with young athletes can provide valuable guidance and ensure optimal training outcomes.

THE DUKE OF DENVER
fresh sheets on his bed regularly afforded me the opportunity to have - a friend. He was there when I launched my first magazine and he stayed with me through the struggle, through covid even until my dream became a reality. It wasn't all roses though. Believe it or not, he can drool on not just the refrigerator or couch; but the CEILING! I know, right?
MY SON DUKE
As the publisher of Denver North City Lifestyle, I don't write articles or give editorial comments because I wouldn't know where to start. I leave that to the professionals. This will be the exception and I hope you will grant me this small kindness and patience.
The pictures that you see are of my son Duke. He came into my life a few years ago in a most dramatic, not to mention, aggressive way. He tried to eat my face! What a difference a day makes...or a year..lol. Duke is an 8 year old English Mastiff that changed my life. I hate dog hair. I'm allergic to dogs. I also like to have my own way. We are basically the same person: HE LIKES TO HAVE HIS OWN WAY. It was a rough go at first, I'm not going to lie. In the second picture you can see what 6 months of treats and
I was in love, and no matter the trials and tribulations, I knew that we were bonded forever although he didn't know it for another year, anyway. I learned so much. Putting others first is so rewarding, and before you get upset....just ask them what they want. But you have to listen. A smile goes a long way. A fraction of a bed is still amazing if shared with someone you love. Never angry, always protective and with unconditional love he is a daily reminder that life isn't perfect. I can't imagine carrying 250lbs around everyday. People said "You guys are the same size!!!!" NO WE AREN"T. lol. Unfortunately, as happens to us all, he is on his final journey. Due to bone cancer, this was his last 4th of July but we hope he will get some Turkey at Thanksgiving.
I started falling in love in January 2020 and it changed my life.
Life Lesson: Don't trip if your dinner is late, as long as they always come back to feed you. No one is perfect, and raw tripe late everyday is much better than wondering if you will get delicious lamb again. I didn't even know what tripe was. I will always feed you and make your bed. You made me love when it wasn't easy...or clean.
love you, Dad

Birdies for Butterflies
Hope For a Cure on the Horizon in Colorado - And the boy who started it all. Meet Brady. A boy whose arrival in the world brought both the utmost joy but also heartache to his parents, Eileen and Chris Attar. Despite a healthy pregnancy, they immediately knew there was an issue when he was born with painful skin blisters, something they had never seen, nor heard of happening with a newborn baby. Their concern turned to devastation when they learned the blisters were a symptom of Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), which would manifest into much more than they could have ever imagined.
Children with EB are often referred to as “Butterfly Children” because their skin is as fragile as a butterfly's wings. The disease is also called by doctors and those in the EB community as “the worst disease you’ve never heard of.” EB is a very rare genetic disorder characterized by the formation of blisters and fragile skin that easily peels with minimal contact, heat, or friction, leading to the development of sores and heavy scar tissue. The underlying cause of EB lies in the absence of crucial proteins responsible for binding the skin's layers together. Without these proteins, the skin becomes prone to tearing, resulting in excruciating pain, disfigurement and persistent wounds that struggle to heal.
Like a burn victim, individuals with severe EB (or Recessive Dystrophic EB) require extensive bandaging and wound care. For caretakers, like Brady’s parents, it can take 4 to 7 hours to change bandages every other day. Basic activities such as crawling or walking can cause further damage and intensify the already-present pain. In the United States alone, it is estimated that 25,000 to 50,000 families are grappling with the challenges of caring for a loved one with EB. The condition predominantly affects children, as the persistent inflammation

Brady
resulting from the disease being internal and external can increase the risk of cancer significantly and cause malnourishment, reducing the life expectancy of individuals diagnosed with EB.
After Brady's EB diagnosis, his family embarked on a challenging path–embracing the task of understanding and managing the complexities of their son’s disorder. The overwhelming nature of their situation extended beyond the tasks of daily care, as they struggled to obtain necessary resources. Their health insurance company refused coverage for wound care supplies, which were vital for Brady's survival and cost a staggering $8,000 per month at the time. They realized that the rarity of EB meant that raising funds and awareness was necessary to access exceptional care for children like Brady. As of now, there are no known treatments or cures for EB, leaving kids living with this condition and their families with limited options.
However, Brady is so much more than just his EB diagnosis. Those who know him, his family, and many other children suffering from this disease, discover something remarkable. These childrens’ stories are actually a tale of hope in the face of unimaginable adversity. An embodiment of the unbreakable human spirit, his unwavering optimism and passion for life serve as a light that shines on the truth that a cure is being developed right here in Colorado.
The Attar family was determined to alleviate Brady's daily suffering. In their pursuit of the best possible care, they relocated from Texas to Colorado, seeking the expertise from the Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine and the Children's Hospital Colorado EB Center of Excellence led by Dr. Anna Bruckner and her team, where they offer specialized care and treatment for EB children. Feeling hopeful for the first time in a while, The Attars chose Colorado as their permanent home and began to focus on working with the clinic to educate them on caring for a child with EB. The Gates Center is at the forefront of Epidermolysis Bullosa exploration where their stem cell research has made tremendous strides. Through their integration of scientific
research, treatment development and clinical knowledge, they distinguish themselves far above other healthcare institutions in the EB community. The groundbreaking work done in Colorado brings hope and advancements towards a cure to individuals and families affected by this challenging condition. Their team has even gone so far as to say, “An actual cure is on the horizon!”
Colorado is also home to one of the largest outdoor programs for EB kids: Camp Spirit. Attending this camp is sometimes the very first time these kids have ever been away from their parents. Taking place in Winter Park every year, Camp Spirit serves as a haven of fun and learning. It provides an opportunity to socialize with other kids their age, with the same condition. While at the camp, these children have the ability to look at the world through a colorful lens of joy, laughter and a sense of play. While many of us would collapse under the weight of this disease, these children’s pain tolerances are so strong, some actually see their disease as a superpower. Their resilience is evident when watching them thrive during countless camp activities in the snow. Camp Spirit’s incredible team of volunteer doctors allows campers to enjoy new experiences they once thought to be impossible- Granting them the freedom to just be kids!

“When my nephew William (The Boy Who Started It All) was born with the disease in 2010 my heart sank as I Googled the disease and watched the many online videos - says Larina McClain, Founder of Birdies for Butterflies in Colorado. As William grew older my perspective changed drastically as I began to witness William's extreme passion for life and his will to not only live, but to thrive, in spite of his suffering. Like Brady, William has been on a mission of changing people's lives for the better. “We watched them play and learned their stories and our lives were never the same!”
"Since William's journey began," says McClain, "I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the most wonderful people in the EB community including Brady’s lovely
family, the Attar’s, who were our guests of honor at our last event”. Birdies for Butterflies is a Colorado-inspired biennial event where we make ‘Birdies’ on the golf course in a competitive golf tournament to support ‘Butterflies,’ or butterfly children, as we hope to bring them a little joy in spite of their suffering.

Backyard Chickens
Everything you need to get started on your backyard coop.
Chickens have become increasingly popular as pets in both suburban and urban areas during the last 20 years. Backyard chickens may seem to be an unsuspecting animal to keep as a pet but the tried and true egg producers are back in fashion as food costs are soaring and families are looking for more food independence in light of recent supply chain shortages. There’s a lot to like about raising chickens in your backyard. Surprisingly, chickens are relatively low maintenance. And bonus – unlike dogs, they don’t need to be bathed or groomed, and they don’t shed on your clothes or require training. Oh and bonus – they make you breakfast.
The eggs from backyard chickens are the best—tastier and fresher than any store-bought eggs. Much of the day, the birds entertain themselves, picking at grass, worms, beetles, and all of the good things that go into making those delicious farm eggs. Plus, with their keen eye for insect pests, chickens make for great gardening companions.
Chickens can provide family companionship, fun, entertainment, sustainable fresh food, and plenty of poop that gardeners prize as a natural fertilizer/composting material. Could backyard chickens be the perfect pet/producer to add to your home?

Backyard Chicken Q&A:
HOW MANY CHICKENS SHOULD I KEEP?
Chickens are sociable creatures, so plan to keep three to six birds at least. With this amount, you’ll always have a steady supply of eggs, since an adult hen lays about two eggs every three days, on average. Local ordinances also dictate how many chickens one household can keep.
HOW MUCH DOES KEEPING CHICKENS COST?
All of this costs money, of course. The materials to build and furnish a coop and a 20 x 5-foot run—including wood, fencing, and hardware—are going to set you back at least $300. If you can’t do this work yourself, you’ll also be buying skilled labor.
Overall, expect to spend between $500 and $700 when getting started depending on the size of your flock, coop and run. For prefabricated coops, expect to pay $600 or more.
WHAT KIND OF SHELTER DO THEY NEED?
Chickens need to have an enclosed coop that provides adequate space, protection from the elements and predators, and good ventilation. A modified shed, barn, or stable with an outdoor run is a good option for a coop. The outdoor run should be fully enclosed if you have predators like hawks or owls nearby. Ideally, coops are slightly elevated off the ground to prevent flooding and have windows on each side, enough nest boxes to allow several chickens to nest simultaneously, outlets for lighting, fans if they’re needed, air inlets or ventilation holes on the roof, and a concrete floor treated with a pet-safe waterproof coating that allows for easy cleaning and drainage.

WHEN DO CHICKENS START LAYING EGGS?
Most hens will start laying eggs when they’re about 18 to 20 weeks old, although it may take more time for them to reach their peak output. Often, the first eggs are laid irregularly or are smaller or oddly shaped when compared with a typical egg. This is nothing to worry about! Once a cycle is established, most hens will lay one egg per day.

The Tempting Taste of Tacos and Tequila
BLANCO TACOS AND TEQUILA
Blanco Tacos and Tequila takes a fresh, coastal approach to Mexican Cuisine and Beverages, with a street taco inspired menu, along with their own takes on classic drinks.
The restaurant loves to experiment with expressions of alcoholic beverages, with their newly added tequila flights. “Each flight of six different tequilas is unique,” Manager Tim Martini said. You can curate your own flight depending on preferences, or try a selection completely new to you.
Along with these tequila flights, Blanco Tacos and Tequila is offering a refreshed cocktail menu, new to many customers. Praised cocktails are their Local Margarita, Mile Highlander, and The Raging Burro, their take on a classic moscow mule. They’ve partnered with a local Boulder Tequila brand, Suerte, offering a fresh herbal, citrus aroma, with subtle sweetness.
Blanco Tacos and Tequila encourages customers to bring not only good friends, but furry friends. “There’s a nearby dog park, so come here to cool off,” says Martini. Enjoy their pet-friendly patio year round, open in the summer, and enclosed and heated in the winter.
