Welcome to the Thankful Issue Hello Friends, It's almost Thanksgiving. Hay rides, haunted houses, corn mazes and all the pumpkin nonsense you can imbibe. But this time of year is more than that. It's a time to think about and remember the people and the experiences that have afforded us the opportunity to realize that our lives wouldn't be possible without them. First, I would like to say to my mom, Linda Coffel, thank you. Thank you for teaching me what love means. I'm sorry it took so long. In the picture above is my son Cody, his mom Melissa and my mom. Even 7 years ago you can see that my son was a bigger man than I. Cody is the owner and publisher of Arvada Lifestyle magazine. He is the smartest, most driven and most dedicated man I know. I would love to take credit for it all but I can't. Melissa, Aaron, thank you for helping build the incredible man that our son has become. In addition to owning his own magazine, he also has his real estate license and is an educated trader/ investor. NO, ladies, you can't have his number. I've made so many mistakes over the last 25 years that I can't even begin to count. As parents we want our kids to be better than us, Cody surpassed that when he was about 8. I am so proud of him and I hope one day to be the man that he is now. He doesn't know it, but he has been MY role model since he was 15. Be thankful my friends. Every day is like a dollar. You can spend it on anything you want, but you can only spend it one time.

You can also join us for our annual wthanksgiving Bootcamp called the “PRE BURN” Thanksgiving morning, 7am at Perseverance@5-points! Here are five exercises to consider before and after your Thanksgiving meal:

BEFORE THE THANKSGIVING MEAL: 1. Walking or Jogging: Take a brisk walk or light jog around the neighborhood or in a nearby park. This will get your blood flowing, boost your metabolism, and prepare your body for the feast. 2. Stretching: Perform gentle stretching exercises to loosen up your muscles and increase flexibility. Focus on your major muscle groups, such as your legs, arms, back, and neck. 3. Bodyweight Squats: Do a set of bodyweight squats to engage your lower body muscles. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, lower yourself as if you’re about to sit in a chair, then stand back up.

AFTER THE THANKSGIVING MEAL: 1. Post-Meal Walk: Take a leisurely walk with family or friends after the meal. This can aid digestion, help burn calories, and promote a sense of well-being. 2. Plank: Hold a plank position for 30 seconds to 1 minute. This engages your core muscles and helps counteract the effects of overeating. 3. Chair Dips: Use a sturdy chair or bench to perform chair dips. This exercise targets your triceps and can be done easily at home. Aim for 2-3 sets of 10-15 reps. 4. Jumping Jacks: Do a few sets of jumping jacks to get your heart rate up and boost your metabolism. Ultra-Creamy Mashed Potatoes No list of Thanksgiving food would be complete without a pile of perfect mashed potatoes.

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

• 4lb. medium Yukon Gold potatoes, scrubbed • 4 tsp. kosher salt, plus more • 1½ cups whole milk • ½ cup heavy cream • 1 head of garlic, halved crosswise • 3 sprigs rosemary • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature, cut into pieces • Freshly ground black pepper

STEP 01. Place potatoes in a large pot and pour in cold water to cover by 1”. Add a large handful of salt (water should taste briny, like the ocean) and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are very tender but not crumbly, 30–35 minutes. Drain, briefly rinse with cool water to remove any excess starch, and return potatoes to warm pot (off heat) to dry while you heat the milk mixture.

STEP 02. Warm milk, cream, garlic, and rosemary sprigs in a small saucepan over medium until fragrant, about 5 minutes. Remove pan from heat.

STEP 03. Pass hot potatoes through ricer or food mill into a large bowl (cold potatoes will become gummy). Add butter and 4 tsp. salt and stir until butter is completely incorporated. Strain warm milk mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large measuring glass. Pour into potatoes ½-cupful at a time, stirring after each addition until liquid is fully incorporated and mixture is smooth before adding more. STEP 04 Serve mashed potatoes topped with a few grinds of pepper.

ICE!, the annual holiday tradition at Gaylord Rockies Resort, returns Nov. 17, 2023 through Jan. 1, 2024. Using more than two million pounds - or 1,000 tons - of ice, the amusing Warner Bros. holiday classic, ‘A Christmas Story™' will be brought to life in ice sculpture form by a team of 40 world-class ice artisans from Harbin, China. The holiday celebration continues with performances from “Cirque: Spirit of Christmas,” ice slides, Christmas activities and a visit from Santa Claus. With over ten scenes from the hilarious family tale in hand-carved sculptures made of ice, these are a few: the old man's major award, Aunt Clara's

pink nightmare, the ultimate triple dog dare at the school's flagpole and more. Colored ice, clear ice, and LED lights will encompass you with every step into this adventure. Starting with more than 6,000 massive ice blocks, the carvers work approximately six weeks - more than 12,000 man-hours - to create the nearly 17,000 square foot frozen attraction. The artisans, using skills passed down through generations, follow a 300-page design book to create the ice spectacle. Ice carvings range in size from details as tiny as a coin to soaring scenes more than 30 feet tall. Your environment will be kept frozen by a state-of-the-art chilling system that maintains the temperature at nine degrees Fahrenheit. BUT, you will be hugged in a signature blue parka to stay warm during your excursion. The carvers have traveled more than 5,700 miles from their homes in Harbin, China to Aurora,

Colorado. Known as “Ice City,” Harbin is home to the world’s largest annual ice and snow sculpting festival in the world. At Gaylord Rockies Resort, some of the same artisans who create the Harbin festival will carve 300-pound blocks of ice into the larger-than-life, whimsical scenes. Carvers will use chisels, chippers, tongs, handsaws, grinders and even chainsaws to bring “A Christmas Story™” to life. In addition to the amazing ice sculptures from the fan-favorite Christmas movie, you can also take rides down the two-story-tall ice slides and traverse through ice tunnels and arches. Brass candlesticks with brown taper candles create a simple and elegant centerpiece. Use familiar accents such as amber jars filled with dried grass foliage and brass pheasants to adorn the table. To add a little character to the table, use a recycled wine bottle as a vase.
