Tree Care Tips • Check for Hazardous Trees: Winter storms can bring down weak trees or limbs. Inspect for dead branches, leaning trunks, or decay. Call an arborist if unsure. • Prune for Safety & Health: Late winter pruning strengthens trees and prevents disease. Remove weak or overgrown branches to promote healthy spring growth. • Mulch & Protect Roots: Add mulch around the base (but not against the trunk) to insulate roots, retain moisture, and prevent soil erosion. • Plan for Spring Planting: Now is the time to choose native trees and schedule early spring planting for the best start. • Watch for Pests & Disease: Even in winter, pests and fungal infections can threaten trees. Look for holes, sap oozing, or discolored leaves. Early action can save a tree!

Room to Restore
January 2026 PUBLISHER
Our January Health & Wellness issue invites you to step into spaces where restoration begins. Wellness, after all, isn’t a single practice. It’s a series of choices, rhythms, rooms, and relationships that shape how we move through our days in Decatur and beyond. In this issue, we explore the stories behind those spaces. We begin with local designer Trish Roe of The Georgian Goose Interiors, who reminds us that a home is never just walls and furniture—it’s the lived-in memoir of a family. Her work reveals the quiet truth that wellness often starts in the spaces where we spend our time: rooms designed with intention, colors that comfort, and corners that hold meaning. From the home to the heart, Atlanta therapist Amy Robbins’ practice is built on safety, honesty, and truly being seen. Her belief that worthiness is inherent and that therapy is less about reinvention and more about remembering is the exact reminder a new year calls for. We then turn to women’s health with Dr. Taniqua Miller, founder of Revival Women’s Health, opening in downtown Decatur this February. Her work reframes midlife as a portal, not a crisis, offering science-backed, deeply personalized care for women entering their “wisdom era.” For those looking to bring clarity into their financial lives this year, Dominion Financial Solutions is a team that treats money management as a relationship, not a transaction. Practical, personal, and grounded in trust, their approach reminds us that financial wellness is as essential as any other form of care. As we step into 2026 together, I hope this issue serves as a gentle companion, encouraging you to create spaces that feel personal, peaceful, honest, and lived in. So consider this issue of Decatur City Lifestyle your invitation to slow down, gather, and toast to the year before us. There is so much goodness ahead. Here’s to a year of renewal and wholehearted local living.

Rooms, to her, are never just that. They're expressions of the people who live in them: their routines, their histories, and the tiny details that make their lives feel like their own. "The best projects come out of trust," she says. "You have to know people well enough to see what they'll love before they see it themselves." Trish built her studio on that belief. What began as helping friends design their spaces after she moved from the Northeast to Atlanta eventually evolved into a thriving boutique design firm serving families throughout the Southeast. She hadn't initially set out to become a designer; she worked in publishing and marketing. But design had always been the thread running through her life, from childhood days hunting antiques with her grandmother to the creative pull she felt every time she walked into a new space. Her work with one longtime Collier Hills family illustrates her approach perfectly. The couple, both attorneys with two young children, had moved into a traditional home with rooms that felt underutilized or undefined. They initially asked for help with their formal sitting room. "They both worked from home, but they didn't work together," Trish recalls with a laugh. "They wanted to share a room but not a desk."

“HOMES SHOULD FEEL LIKE THEY’VE LIVED LIVES—AND LIKE PEOPLE TRULY L I V E IN T HEM.”
She transformed the space using a long dining table—one spouse at each end—and a seating arrangement near the fireplace. The room became both a shared office and a secondary living area. After the workday ended, it shifted into a calm retreat, somewhere to read, unwind, or enjoy a quiet moment out of the fray. "Once that room came together, it sparked everything else," she says. "They suddenly saw possibility in the whole house." One of the most memorable spaces that followed was a small, unfinished area on the home's terrace level. The couple had always wanted a wine room, the wife was studying for her sommelier certification and dreamed of a place to store her growing collection. "I love taking a really small space and making it have a big impact," Trish says. She brought in her custom millworker to design floor-to-ceiling shelving, a temperature-controlled unit, glass doors, and a tasting corner. But the moment that sealed the room's personality came during planning. "My millworker’s first drawing held around 300 bottles," she says. "My clients looked at me and said, 'We want to store way more.' So we expanded." The finished room is moody, immersive, unexpected—a destination tucked inside a family home. "All of their friends come over and immediately say, 'We're hanging out in the wine room,'" Trish says. "That's when you know you've created something special." Upstairs, the primary bedroom offered an entirely different challenge. With high vaulted ceilings and vast empty walls, the room felt impersonal. Trish used one of her favorite techniques—color drenching—to transform it. "Painting the walls, trim, and ceiling the same shade added this cocoon feeling," she says. "Even a big room can feel warm and intimate." She grounded the space with a plush wool rug, layered in texture, and hung custom artwork from local artist, Lindsey Franks. The final touch was a bubbled glass chandelier so intricate that she, her assistant, and her electrician had to hang each bulb individually. "We won't forget installing that one," she says. "But it was worth every minute." CONTINUED >

Throughout the home, Trish's process remained rooted in understanding the family, not just the architecture. She listens to how people live, what habits define their routines, and what small details reveal their personality. "People's kitchens are incredibly telling," she says. "What's left out, what they cook with, whether there are cookbooks or take-out menus—it all gives you clues." She asks about travel, favorite restaurants, and family traditions. She takes in photos, closets, and small collections. "Those details might not seem important," she says, "but they help shape a home that feels personal and alive." Color plays a key role in her work—not as a trend, but as a feeling. "I always try to walk people into color," she says. "Some want to jump into the deep end, and some want to dip in a toe. But nobody lives in a house that's all white. It's not real life—kids, dogs, coffee, crumbs.. You need warmth and personality." She's firm about a few design principles. Rugs should be bigger than you think. Antiques have a place in every home. Drapery panels should
18

be hung high and touch the ground. And mixing patterns and colors isn’t something to fear.. "Whatever works for the family is what matters," she says. "Those rules are the ones that hold a room together." Budgets, she believes, are best focused rather than stretched thin. "If a budget is tight, don't try to redo the whole house," she says. "Work on a couple of spaces and invest in pieces that will last." A high-quality arm chair or a vintage wool rug, she argues, will outlive any trendy decorator item—and grow with a family over time.
“THAT SENSE OF NARRATIVE IS WHAT DEFINES THE GEORGIAN GOOSE INTERIORS. TRISH ISN’T SIMPLY DESIGNING SHOWPIECES; SHE IS IMAGINING S PACE S T H AT HOL D R E A L L IF E.” To keep clients from becoming overwhelmed, she presents two complete design options for every room—enough choice to feel empowered without falling into decision fatigue. "People get overwhelmed when there are too many options," she says. "You want them to stay excited." Outside of client work, Trish is renovating her 100-year-old home in East Lake with her husband and two children. The walls are still open, the work ongoing. But for her, the process is part of the joy. They plan to tuck handwritten notes inside the walls for future renovators to find. "Homes should feel
like they've lived," she says. "Old houses give you that before you even start. You're adding your chapter to a story that was already there." That sense of narrative is what defines The Georgian Goose Interiors. Trish isn't simply designing showpieces; she is imagining spaces that hold real life. Spaces where people gather, rest, host friends, raise children, and create memories they'll talk about years from now. In her hands, houses become homes that feel both deeply personal and fully alive. JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/ D E CAT UR GA

A Space to Feel Human
Most people don’t remember the exact moment things became too heavy. But they remember the moment they finally said, “I need help.” For therapist Amy Robbins, that moment, the shift from I should go to therapy to I’m here, is the most meaningful doorway a person will walk through all year. “What took them from I should to I am, tells us everything,” she says.

It’s not an intake question. It’s a threshold. And Amy treats it with the kind of tenderness that only comes from decades of sitting with people in their hardest seasons. Amy has been a therapist since 1999, yet she approaches each client with the steadiness of someone who still deeply believes in the work. Her Atlanta practice, Amy Robbins Counseling, now spans Kirkwood and Grant Park, home to a team of six therapists who see individuals, couples, teenagers, families, and young adults. “Anyone is welcome here,” she says. “We work really hard to keep our space a safe space.” And it’s not just a talking point. When Amy describes safety, she speaks about it with urgency and conviction — almost like a promise. Physical safety, emotional safety, psychological safety. Confidentiality is honored. Autonomy that is respected, and
not negotiated. “If there’s something you don’t want to talk about, you have the right to say ‘pass,’” she explains. “We believe you. We honor what you say.” Safety builds the space, but fit builds the relationship. “After your first session, when you’re a mile away, I want you to be able to think, ‘Amy’s got me,’” she says. “That sense of comfort, of capability — that’s what allows us to go deeper.” And deeper is where she’s willing to go. In a world that often encourages people to stay on the surface in their vulnerability, Amy practices something she calls carefrontation — the art of naming what’s true with equal parts compassion and honesty. “I’m going to care about you as I put something on the table that needs to be on the table,” she says. “I’m going to love you through it.”
“You are of value. You are worthy because you are human.” CONTINUED >

She knows what it’s like to sit on the other side of the room. In her early twenties, she lost her father to cancer — a grief she carried quietly when none of her peers had experienced anything similar. “I felt very alone,” she says. “I had an incredible therapist then, and it made me want to help other people going through the same thing.” She’s seen firsthand that people rarely struggle with seven different problems at once. More often, it’s one belief that shapes everything else. For many of her clients, it’s the belief that they are not inherently valuable. “People aren’t taught that they have worth,” she says. “So their decisions come from that belief. Their patterns come from that belief. And until we connect that piece, the behavior is just going to keep going.” Therapy, in her view, is not about making someone feel instantly better. It’s about helping them finally feel seen. Sometimes the shift feels good; often it doesn’t. “My mom once asked why my clients don’t always leave happy,” she recalls. “But the goal isn’t happiness. Sometimes you leave a session a hot mess — because something is shifting.” Shifts require presence. They require someone willing to sit in the discomfort without flinching. Amy does that work with intention. She utilizes grounding rituals at the beginning and end of each session. She practices her own mindfulness. She prioritizes therapy for herself and her team. “Therapists
24
M EN TA L WE LLB E IN G | WE LLN E SS
have to do their own work,” she says. “That’s how we show up as our best selves.” She also believes in therapy that moves — therapy that dares to address the things people have been circling for years. Too many clients come to her after working with someone who never named the obvious. Amy refuses to tiptoe around the core wound. “Let’s address the tumor,” she says. “Not everything around it.” Even with that directness, Amy’s presence is undeniably warm. She describes sessions with metaphors of movement and water. A canoe where she and the client sit together, sometimes paddling in sync, sometimes trading roles. “If you don’t have an agenda for the day, that’s okay,” she tells people. “I’ve got it if you don’t.” And when clients hesitate, when they feel too nervous or too tender, she never tries to talk them out of it. “It’s normal to be nervous,” she says. “You’re human. Nervousness isn’t bad — it means you’re alive.” In January, when so many people are thinking about reinvention, improvement, and fresh starts, Amy’s perspective is a reminder we all need: therapy is not about becoming someone else. It’s about remembering who you already are. As she puts it, “You are of value. You are important. You are worthy because you are human.” And if you’re ready — or even just willing to try — Amy Robbins Counseling is ready for you, too.

Dominion Financial Solutions Makes Money Management Personal
A ROADMAP FOR YOUR FINANCIAL JOURNEY

EXP E RT H E LP | FI NANC E + LE GAL SE RVICE S
Discussing money matters can be a sensitive subject, but let’s be honest- whether you’re an experienced investor or looking to kickstart your savings, we could all use some financial advice from time to time. Dominion Financial Solutions provides comprehensive financial planning services for people in all phases of life, from retirement planning to college funding, or even just figuring out how to responsibly afford your next vacation. “If you have a financial question, we can answer it,” says Financial Advisor and Partner Dustin Casebolt. “Whether you need a little advice or a lot, there’s always somewhere to improve.” For over 25 years, Dominion Financial Solutions has served its clients with personalized, real-world financial advice to help achieve their goals and navigate the financial landscape. Don’t expect a big bank experience working with Dominion; their solutions are tailored to each client’s needs and intended to work for individuals’ specific circumstances, not just generate profit for the firm. As a fiduciary, Dominion is legally obligated to put its clients’ best interests ahead of anything else and offer responsible monetary advice that aligns with established financial goals.
“I’ve always been drawn to the service aspect of financial advising,” says Casebolt. “It’s a big part of someone’s life, and we take it really seriously. We treat everyone like friends and family.” That personal touch and community-minded attitude create peace of mind and comfort for clients and while forming a true relationship built on trust. Dominion goes above and beyond when it comes to helping clients make prudent and forward-thinking financial decisions. “We do everything we can to help,” says Seabolt. “I recently helped a family figure out which car would be a smart purchase. We’ve toured assisted living facilities with clients to help them find the right fit. When we say we’re in partnership with our clients to help them succeed, we really mean it.” Even if you’re not preparing for a large purchase or setting lofty financial goals, a financial advisor can play an important role in planning for the unexpected. Circumstances like paying for college or figuring out how much you really need to comfortably retire
can feel daunting, and a third-party offering informed advice can make all the difference. “There’s no contract or commitment to work with us,” explains Casebolt. “We’ll work with anyone looking for guidance. Our goal is to be partners for life and every financial situation.” Investment advisory and financial planning services are offered through Bison Wealth, LLC, a registered investment adviser. Dustin Casebolt/Dominion Financial Solutions Inc. and Bison Wealth, LLC., are separate and independent entities. The firm only transacts business in states where it is properly registered, or is excluded or exempted from registration requirements. DR. TANIQUA Revival Women’s Health offers nuanced, speciality care for menopausal transitions. Dr. Taniqua Miller emits an effervescence that, combined with her Ivy League education, creates a steadying approachability. It feels just as natural to lean in for personal girl talk as it is to take in her impressive and expansive medical knowledge. Her new practice, Revival Women’s Health, brings that blend of implicit trust and nuanced healthcare to downtown Decatur. Projected to open in February 2026 at 315 West Ponce de Leon Avenue, this boutique-style, membership-based practice homes in on leading women through midlife with science-based, holistic empowerment. Named by her daughter, it is driven by a mission inherent in the name. Revival means to live again in Latin, which ties perfectly to the philosophy of viewing midlife as a portal, not a crisis. This reawakening can be empowering, and Dr. Miller is here to lead you through the journey with individualized care that celebrates women entering their wisdom era. A first-generation medical school graduate to her single mother from Trinidad, Dr. Miller grew up in the Bronx, New York. Her determination to succeed landed her at Yale and Harvard, respectively, with her first “big girl job” at Emory University in 2012. She’s always had an educator’s heart, and academic medicine was a natural fit in many ways; she thrived in her relationships with her Obstetrics and Gynecology patients. Throughout her residency, she discovered a lack of expertise in menopausal care; in fact, a specific patient changed the trajectory of her career. Encountering this woman, whose hormone therapy was discontinued after a heart attack, she saw the woman’s misery radiating

off her, which led Dr. Miller to prescribe a low-dose SNRI. This rapid improvement highlighted the dire need for nuanced female midlife care. Gaps in the system began to show more and more frequently, from underfunded research into women’s health to resistance against DEI initiatives. The medical system values volume-driven care within a transactional model, which erodes the sense of comprehensive care. Dr. Miller dove headfirst into learning everything she could about menopause care and gained her official certification (MSCP - Menopause Society Certified Practitioner) in 2016. By this point, her increased awareness of the full scope of health led her to address her own burnout head-on: she took medical leave from Emory for anxiety. This reflection period revealed that the increasing responsibilities and a lack of decision-making power created a draining, unsupportive work environment. Despite her exit, previous patients remembered Dr. Miller’s nuanced approach to midlife medical care, and many reached out to her for menopausal support outside their regular gynecology appointments. Enter: Revival Woman’s Health. Its first iteration took the form of telemedicine consultations, with personalized, high-level, out-of-network care. As this new endeavor continued, more and more women requested that she take over as their gynecologist, as they were frustrated by a sense of being rushed with current providers. This particular branch of women’s healthcare thrives when trust and true relationships are at its core.
“Midlife is not a crisis. It’s a reawakening, it’s a rediscovery; it’s your revival.” CONTINUED >

Revival Women’s Health is in a space built from scratch, with interiors that emit serenity, treatment suites designed for relaxation, and a tea bar with specialty-crafted blends. Dr. Miller is getting back to why she went to medical school in the first place: to help people on a deep level, not merely rush them out the door or experience relief when an appointment is cancelled. By addressing the full person with an expert eye, this time of transition in women’s lives is cared for regularly, not merely acknowledged in 7-minute annual check-ins. Dr. Miller is on a mission to treat midlife shifts with reverence and a decade of specialized support. Enter this new phase at your fullest potential with Revival Women’s Health.
