LIFESTYLE LETTER

Daytona Style

September 2025 PUBLISHER

Thomas John (TJ) Filley tj.filley@citylifestyle.com

I hope this letter finds you inspired and ready to embrace the beauty of self-expression. Style is such an extraordinary part of life—it’s far more than the clothes we wear or the accessories we choose. Style is woven into every detail of our existence, from the way we decorate our homes to the art and music we enjoy, the books we read, and even how we interact with the world around us. It’s the unique thread that creates the tapestry of who we are. What makes style so captivating is its deeply personal nature. It evolves alongside us as we explore new interests, embrace our quirks, and express what we value most. It’s a language without words, a powerful tool for connection that can bridge differences and spark shared understanding. I encourage you to think of style as an authentic expression of yourself. The most beautiful style is one that reflects who you truly are—your passions, your story, your individuality. And the incredible thing is that no one else in the world can replicate that. So go ahead, celebrate your unique style. Whether you’re exploring new trends, blending classic elements, or creating something entirely original, let this issue inspire you to embrace the power of self-expression. This month, we are launching a new feature called The City List. This is our take on some of the top companies that help you look your best, voted on by readers and followers of this magazine. Read about these great local companies that want to help you look your best in this issue. As always, additional copies of Daytona City Lifestyle can be found at both the Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach Chamber offices, as well as at the Museum of Arts & Sciences. Here’s to being unapologetically and uniquely you!

Celebrating the Businesses That Define Local Style

Jewelry

Beauty

Style lives here.

At Daytona City Lifestyle, we believe true style is about more than trends—it’s a reflection of taste, craftsmanship, and confidence. That belief inspired our latest feature called The City List. Think of this as a thoughtfully curated guide to local businesses that exemplify excellence in their category. Each month, The City List aligns with our editorial theme, and this month the focus is “Style.” We highlighted businesses that elevate the way we present ourselves, from wardrobe and accessories to skincare and self-care. This month’s categories included Fashion, Jewelry, Beauty, Facial Aesthetics, and Skin & Sculpting.

the turnout was exceptional. This democratic approach reflects the discerning tastes of those who know quality when they experience it. Rather than declare a single winner, we honor the businesses that earned consistent acclaim. The City List is presented alphabetically, with each featured business receiving a commemorative plaque and usage rights to our official logo. New categories launch monthly, reflecting the evolving interests of our readership. To participate or preview what’s next, follow us on Instagram and Facebook @daytonacitylifestyle. This isn’t just a list—it’s a statement. Style lives here.

Fashion

To identify the standouts, we began with a pulse check—seeking recommendations from longtime locals and loyal readers. Then, we expanded our reach using premium business databases, verified industry directories, and AI-enhanced research tools to uncover the full landscape of eligible businesses. Fashion in Daytona is both aspirational and practical—a fusion of coastal charm and modern elegance. Our finalists range from breezy resort wear boutiques to national labels. Jewelry nominations featured well-known names alongside artisans crafting exquisite custom pieces. The Beauty category included elite salons offering precision styling and elevated nail artistry. Facial Aesthetics celebrated those providing advanced treatments in serene day spas and cutting-edge med spas and dental offices. Skin & Sculpting showcased professionals in dermatology, aesthetic surgery, and medical weight management. The heart of The City List is community. Readers voted across our social channels—selecting up to five businesses per category—and

The stage is set at the NewsJournal Center, new home of the Daytona Symphony Society.

When the lights dim and the first notes rise into the stillness, the Daytona Beach Symphony Society offers an experience unlike anything else on the local stage. This is the visceral magic of orchestral performance. It offers a kind of spellbinding immersion that cannot be replicated by screens, algorithms, or even other forms of live entertainment. For more than seventy years, the Symphony has carried that magic forward, season after season, inviting listeners into an experience that is both timeless and deeply human. This season marks a full-circle moment for the Symphony. Their performances now fill the News-Journal Center, a fitting home given that T. Wayne Davidson—the founding force behind the Symphony—was also publisher of the Daytona Beach NewsJournal. With free parking, walkable dining, and a modern, welcoming layout, the venue makes attending feel both elegant and easy. Just steps away, the Esplanade sets the tone, inviting guests to grab dinner or a drink before the show. It adds a cosmopolitan flair to an evening out that some might not expect in Daytona.

That cultural impact deepens with the Symphony’s YES Program, now celebrating its 30th year. Through this initiative, Volusia County students attend live performances completely free of charge, including transportation, tickets, and even cookies and water at intermission, all covered by the Symphony Society. “It’s a good experience for any child,” says Francis. “They don’t get a lot of cultural engagement at school, not as much as they should.” For many students, it is their first exposure to classical music—an art form that can shape their worldview in powerful ways. While classical music may seem like a niche reserved for longtime patrons, the Symphony is looking ahead with a renewed focus on welcoming fresh audiences. Since the post-pandemic dip, interest has steadily returned, and new faces are beginning to appear in the crowd. “Subscriptions are starting to pick back up,” says Francis. This season brings a vibrant and varied lineup, from Handel’s Messiah to Carmen, along with appearances by the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Manhattan Chamber Players. “The first time I heard Jacksonville CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . Symphony, I was backstage and thought—this is some of the best brass playing I’ve ever heard. Perfectly together, perfectly in tune.” There is a hush before the first downbeat, a subtle stillness that settles in the room. In that space, without screens, scrolling, or digital noise, there is simply music. Real musicians performing in real time, creating a sound that cannot be fabricated or fast-forwarded. “What we’re doing is live,” Francis says. “It could go wrong at any time, and that’s part of what makes it special.” For those willing to slow down and listen, the reward is not just a performance. It is a sense of presence, a rare encounter with something entirely real.

SUNLIT Style with a STORY TO Tell In the coastal heart of Ormond Beach’s Fountain Square, three beloved boutiques—Bikini Company, Joyologie, and Beach People—offer more than stylish resort wear. They offer community, comfort, and a multigenerational love of the industry. Owner Joy Rabeaux took over the family business in 1998, after her parents, who founded the original shop in the 1980s, moved to the area and began building what would become a beloved retail presence in Fountain Square. “These stores are just part of me now,” she says. That sense of care still echoes through the shops in the way she greets regulars by name and curates pieces with purpose. These stores are not just businesses. They are living extensions of a family’s rhythm and a woman’s devotion to doing what she loves, year after year. Each boutique has its own personality. Bikini Company features fresh swimwear and youthful beach trends. Joyologie blends laid-back fashion with whimsical gifts. Beach People leans into coastal classics and carries linen staples along with menswear brands such as Tommy Bahama, OluKai, and Life is Good. Joy’s hands-on care shows in every detail. She brings in new pieces constantly and rearranges each space weekly so that familiar items feel fresh again. “They just like to come and visit. It’s like a little community.”

Joy Rabeaux greets a regular with the ease of someone who’s been part of the neighborhood for decades.

More than just clothes— accessories that complete the look.

In Florida’s heat, style must meet comfort. “This year it’s more linen and cotton—just things that are cool and breezy and easy to wear,” she says. “There’s a huge trend with crochet… dresses, skirts, and tops. It’s pretty and open-weave, so it’s not hot.” Men’s fashion has expanded significantly across all three stores. One Australian board short brand with a built-in Lycra liner has become a surprising favorite. Even without the matching tops, Joy says, “Men love them because they’re comfortable.” Beach People has become a go-to spot for breathable button-downs, soft tees, and classic polos that look sharp without sacrificing ease. Joy’s approach is rooted in substance, not sales tactics. “I want people to feel good about themselves,” she says. “That’s what’s most important, because trends change so quickly. If I say something, I really mean it. I’m not a great salesperson. I just want people to like what they wear.” This October, Joy is hosting a trunk show featuring Joseph Ribkoff and Hobo. It will give shoppers a chance to explore full collections, custom order pieces, and discover favorite designers up close. “They love that,” she says. “It feels special.” Whether you are a longtime local or simply passing through, make time to visit Fountain Square and say hello to Joy. The sunshine, the fabrics, the feeling you get when something fits just right; this is more than shopping. It is a little piece of the beach life you carry with you.

Local Love, stitched into every detail.

A SCIENCE-DRIVEN, CLINICALLY PROVEN SKIN TREATMENT RESHAPING WHAT’S POSSIBLE IN VOLUSIA Sara and Mayce Chrisman, the motherdaughter duo behind Daytona Med Spa’s expert, intentional care.

SCIENCE-DRIVEN SKIN REPAIR

M UST SE E | ENTERTAI NME N T

At Daytona MedSpa, skin care is both science and story. Behind its streamlined treatments and advanced technology is a mother-daughter team committed to transforming how people think about aging, healing, and beauty—especially those who have been too afraid to try. The spa’s signature technology, NeoGenPSR, offers a non-surgical path

for aesthetic practices across the country, she became one of the earliest advocates of NeoGen in the United States—helping launch it nationwide and training medical professionals on its application. Eventually, she brought that passion home to open her own practice. Joining her is daughter Mayce Chrisman, a certified plasma and laser

“YOU SEE RESULTS DEVELOP FOR 12 TO EVEN 18 MONTHS.” to clearer, firmer, healthier skin. Unlike traditional lasers or cosmetic procedures that come with significant downtime or discomfort, this FDA-approved nitrogen plasma device works beneath the surface by activating the body’s natural regeneration process. For clients unsure where to begin or overwhelmed by aesthetic treatments, this approach offers something rare: powerful results without fear. “It creates a permanent change without ablating the skin,” says co-owner Sara. “Most other technologies cause trauma, whether that’s a burn response or stripping the top layer. NeoGenPSR goes deeper, but without causing that trauma.” Sara’s path to this work began in biochemistry. She holds a degree in the field and has published research in Tetrahedron Letters, a global scientific journal. After years consulting

technician who first encountered NeoGen as a patient. After years of struggling with stubborn acne, she found the results life-changing. “We did a couple of treatments on me, and I saw that it worked,” she says. Inspired, she pursued aesthetics school and advanced certifications that now position her as one of the most experienced Neogen providers in the country. Mayce has trained physicians and nurse practitioners nationwide in how to safely and effectively administer NeoGen technology. Her firsthand experience gives her a unique ability to connect with clients who may be hesitant or overwhelmed. “That’s why we like the ‘get to know you’ consultations because, you know, it’s informational. We’re answering their questions, reassuring them, listening to their concerns,” she says. CONTINUED >

Daytona Med Spa blends warmth with clinical excellence. Their work centers around advanced, medical-grade procedures—not surface-level indulgence. NeoGen, Botox, fillers, PRP, microneedling, and medical-grade skincare are all performed under the supervision of a licensed medical director, supported by a team that includes nurse practitioners, aestheticians, and massage therapists. “We want to be clear,” Sara says. “This is not a day spa. NeoGen is not a facial— it’s a corrective, medical procedure that creates lasting change.” For clients with precancerous spots, sun damage, thinning skin, or deep acne scars, NeoGen offers a clinically backed, deeply rejuvenating option. Treatments have been performed on patients as young as 12 and as old as 94. Because NeoGen works by energizing the mitochondria in skin cells, it stimulates the body’s own ability to rebuild collagen and elastin. The results are safe across all skin tones and continue developing for up to 18 months.

“IT CREATES A PERMANENT CHANGE WITHOUT ABLATING SKIN."

With grace and expertise, Sara and Mayce Chrisman define the experience at Daytona Med Spa.

“You don’t have to go to a plastic surgeon to get the kind of results you’re looking for,” Sara says. “You can start with a conversation.” For those still unsure, Mayce’s journey speaks volumes.
