SLIGHTLY SWEET, TANGY AND PERFECT FOR THE HOLIDAYS OR ANY NIGHT!
(YIELDS 2-4 SERVINGS):
Cranberry Sauce:
• 6 oz fresh cranberries
• 1/3 C pure maple syrup
• 2 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice (about half a lemon)
• ½ Tbsp lemon zest, tightly packed (zest from approximately 1 lemon)
• ¾ tsp fresh thyme leaves, washed and pat dry
• 1 tsp parsley, fresh or dried (washed and pat dry if using fresh)
Salmon:
• 16 oz salmon
• 2 Tbsp oil, such as avocado oil or olive oil
• ¼ tsp salt
• 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
• ¼ tsp garlic powder
• ¼ tsp onion powder
• ¾ tsp parsley, fresh or dried (washed and pat dry if using fresh)
• ¾ tsp oregano
• 2 Tbsp lemon juice (juice squeezed from approximately ½ lemon)
• Nonstick oil cooking spray

Start by making the cranberry sauce. Wash cranberries in a medium sized strainer and transfer to a medium sized saucepan warmed over high heat.
Add maple syrup, lemon juice and lemon zest to the saucepan.

Cover saucepan over high heat until cranberries start to burst and sauce begins to boil (~3-5 minutes). Allow sauce to boil uncovered for 2-3 minutes. Add parsley and fresh thyme and stir. Reduce heat to low, replace lid so it is slightly of balance and not completely closed. Simmer for ~10 minutes, until cranberry sauce thickens. While cranberry sauce is thickening, move forward with preparing the salmon in the next step below.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a baking dish (8 x 8 inches works well) with nonstick cooking spray. Place salmon skin side down in the baking dish.

Drizzle oil over salmon. Add all seasonings (salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, oregano) so that they are evenly distributed. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over salmon.
Use a spoon to transfer the cranberry sauce on top of the salmon and distribute evenly, so that it forms a thick coating on top of the salmon.
Bake salmon in oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for ~30-35 minutes, until salmon is cooked through. Fish should reach an internal temperature of at least 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Enjoy!
Note: Individual oven times may vary. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. This dish can also be prepped ahead of time by making the cranberry sauce and seasoning the salmon earlier in the day, then storing in the fridge, covered, until ready to bake.
If you’re looking for the perfect holiday entrée, look no further than this Cranberry Baked Salmon! This dish is both gorgeous and delicious, tying in holiday hues and flavors. The cranberry glaze brings a slightly tart, slightly sweet and seasonal taste to the salmon, which is cooked low and slow to keep it juicy and moist. It is sure to be a hit at any holiday table, but it can also be made any night of the week - it’s that simple to make! If hosting, you can make the cranberry glaze a day or two in advance and store it in the fridge, and you can even prep the salmon and add the glaze earlier in the day so the salmon just needs to bake when your company arrives. Whether you’re serving this Cranberry Baked Salmon for guests or enjoying it by yourself or with family any night of the week, it is the perfect, simple and the most flavorful way to enjoy salmon this season!

The holidays have a way of filling our calendars with gatherings—cozy dinners, festive soirées, and impromptu get-togethers that remind us what the season is really about: connection . And while the joy of being invited is its own gift, showing up with a thoughtful token of appreciation for your host is a timeless gesture that never goes unnoticed. If you’ve ever been a host, you know it’s no small feat—it takes time, thought, and an incredible amount of effort to make everything look and feel effortless. Whether it’s a festive dinner party, a cookie exchange, or a weekend stay at a friend’s home, bringing something special expresses gratitude for the care and effort that goes into hosting.
Of course, finding the right host gift is a delicate art. You want something that feels personal, polished, and appropriate; something that shows you appreciate their hospitality without adding to their to-do list. The best gifts are those that feel effortless yet meaningful. A well-chosen host gift can reflect your style and taste while honoring theirs, offering a small slice of comfort or delight to enjoy long after the dishes are cleared.
This guide is designed to help you master that balance with ease. From elegant touches that elevate a dinner table to thoughtful tokens that make any space a bit cozier, these ideas make it simple to arrive with confidence and gratitude in hand.
So, as the invitations start rolling in, consider this your go-to inspiration for celebrating the people who make this special season shine—those who open their homes, pour the wine, and create spaces where our favorite holiday memories unfold.

Each autumn, as the first delicate notes of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker drift through the studios of the New England Academy of Dance (NEAD) in New Canaan, the holiday season quietly awakens. Young dancers giggle as they twirl in angelic circles, while older students perfect elegant waltzes with the poise of seasoned performers. It’s a cherished rhythm that has filled these studios for four decades one that connects generations of dancers, teachers, and families.
This December, NEAD celebrates an extraordinary milestone: the 40th anniversary of its beloved Nutcracker. What began as a local production has grown into a deeply rooted community tradition, one that brings together artistry, dedication, and the joy of the season.
Performances will be held at New Canaan High School on Friday, December 12 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, December 13 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.; and Sunday, December 14 at 1 p.m. (children’s show) and 4 p.m. Each performance features live music by the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jonathan Yates a partnership that has elevated the production since 2017.
For NEAD’s dancers, The Nutcracker is far more than a holiday ballet, it’s a passage through childhood and the evolution of artistry. Dancers begin as tiny Angels and mischievous Mice, eventually growing into Snowflakes, Marzipan, and finally the regal Sugar Plum Fairy.
“The Nutcracker mirrors our dancers’ journey,” says NEAD co-director Ginna Ortiz. “It’s where they learn to express themselves, build confidence, and find their grace. Every role tells a story of growth.”
Behind the curtain lies months of commitment. From early September through December, NEAD’s studios buzz with more than 200 students, ages 6 to 18, rehearsing alongside professional guest artists from New York City. Together, they create a production that dazzles in both scale and spirit.
For the community, NEAD’s Nutcracker has become synonymous with the holidays a shared celebration of music, movement, and tradition that continues to inspire thousands each year.
“The Nutcracker holds the memories of so many dancers,” Ortiz reflects. “From a child’s first step on stage to a senior’s final bow, it’s a story that comes full circle.”

What is an appropriate outfit to wear for an office holiday party? Is a short dress or skirt too inappropriate if you’re the youngest at the office?
Dear Youngest at the Office, How thoughtful of you to consider the vibe before the outfit. Here’s the thing: if you have to ask yourself whether it’s too short, it probably is. Go festive, not flirty. You want your outfit to spark compliments, not a group chat you’re left out of the next morning.
Here are some of my go-to polished brands:
• Veronica Beard (Greenwich)
• Reiss (Norwalk Bloomingdales)
• Ralph Lauren (New Canaan)
Classy always reads confidence, and that never goes out of style, young one.
-Leslie
What is the best way to keep romance going when everyday life gets in the way?
Dear Romance,
Keeping the spark alive while juggling everything life throws at you isn’t easy, but it’s not impossible either. You just have to plan for it like you would anything else that matters, like doctor’s appointments, Amazon returns, or wine deliveries.
Saying you’ll do date night is cute, but let’s be real, something always comes up. So commit to anything that gets you two alone: maybe a long lunch, a spontaneous after-work drink, or a night out that involves real clothes and zero distractions. Bonus tip: buy tickets. To a concert, comedy show, whatever. When money’s on the line, romance magically makes the calendar. And one last bonus tip: wear something new, whether it’s over or under your clothing. It’ll make you feel sexy, and your partner wishing the night would never end.

“I ADORE A GOOD HOSTESS GIFT, IT’S SUCH A TIMELESS GESTURE THAT NEVER GOES UNNOTICED.”
Here are some of my favorite date night spots lately:
• Capitol Theatre (Port Chester) - dine at Felice before the show!
• The Granola Bar (Darien)
• Sole (New Canaan)
• Bedford Post Inn (Bedford, NY)
The best love stories don’t age, they just keep rewriting themselves.
-Leslie
What would be some inventive hostess gifts for someone that hosts you regularly? Assuming you have already exhausted all the standards. Thanks!
Dear Repeat Visitor,
Oh, you’re speaking my love language! I adore a good hostess gift, it’s such a timeless gesture that never goes unnoticed.
If you’ve already exhausted the usual suspects (gourmet treats, flowers, wine), it’s time to get a little creative. Channel your inner detective: listen for clues. Did she just mention an upcoming trip to Europe? Picking up tennis again? Trying meditation? That’s your intel. Follow the trail.
Here are a few of my go-to shops for hostess gifts:
• Terrain (Westport)
• She La La (New Canaan)
• Darien Sport Shop (Darien)
The best gifts say, “I was paying attention.” A little intention goes a long way, and your host will feel both seen and spoiled.
-Leslie
In a world focused on connection and networking, how should you handle a friend who intentionally excludes you from activities to control her inner circle and prevent close friendships from developing? What strategies or steps would you recommend in this situation?
Dear Over It,
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. That kind of exclusion stings. But let’s be clear: a “friend” who intentionally shuts you out to control her circle isn’t a friend at all. That’s not connection, that’s insecurity.
It sounds like she’s threatened by you, maybe worried her besties will become your besties. You don’t need her permission to build real friendships.
Here's my advice: cut out the middlewoman. If you genuinely like the other women, reach out directly. Invite one for coffee, a walk, or cocktails. See where it goes. You might be surprised how many of them have noticed her behavior too.
Here are a few of my favorite spots for some girly time:
• Waveny Park for a walk (New Canaan)
• Cafe Nero for coffee (Darien)
• The Waveny Bar & Grill or Molto for cocktails (New Canaan & Darien)
Bottom line: take the detour. The real power move isn’t getting invited, it’s realizing you don’t need the invitation.
-Leslie
