CHRISTMAS PYRAMID Grounds of the Cullman County Museum "An annual must-see at Christmas in Cullman is the Christmas pyramid. Known in German as Weihnachtspyramide, it's a traditional German decoration of wooden figures that represent different symbols and seasonal elements. Typically the pyramid is hung from the ceiling or set on a small table, but ours is over 40 feet tall and is the tallest one in North America. The size tiers of the Cullman pyramid each feature different scenes, including one that will pay tribute to our local police and firefighter departments. CHRISTMAS IN CULLMAN PARADE & TREE LIGHTING Warehouse District and Depot Park The festive parade will flow through Cullman's Warehouse District along First Avenue, beginning at 5 p.m. on Dec. 1. It will end at Depot Park, where the evening will culminate in the lighting of the Christmas Tree. The beautiful tree will stay lit throughout the holiday season, making Depot Park perfect for a cozy winter evening walk. This free event is a true family friendly experience and one that your little ones are sure to remember!

The weekend of Dec.15-16 will feature even more, including musical performances, food trucks, kids' rides and horse-drawn wagon rides around St. Bernard. Refreshments will be available every night. Open 5-9 p.m. each night: Dec. 1-2, 8-10, 14-16, 21-23 and 26-27. "The Ave Maria Grotto is home to the fruitful labor of Brother Joseph Zoettl, OSB. Br. Joseph was a Benedictine monk of St. Bernard Abbey. Originally from Landschutt, Bavaria-Germany, a young Br. Joseph found himself headed to America to pursue monastic life at Alabama's only Benedictine Abbey. Little did anyone know that this young Bavarian would end up leaving the abbey its greatest legacy and in an incredibly humble way. Since 1934, people from around the world visit the Ave Maria Grotto to see famous parts of the world in miniature. The former abbey quarry is now the 4 acre park that the Grotto and surrounding miniatures rest upon. SPORTSMAN LAKE PARK WINTER WONDERLAND Sportsman Lake Park This drive-through Christmas light display is perfect for those who want a little Christmas cheer, but want to stay warm! Don't worry, though, you can also get out and enjoy a train ride, visit with Santa and shop concessions. Open through Dec. 29 (closed Mondays and Tuesdays until Dec. 13). WALLACE STATE CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre inside the Gudger Student Center Who doesn't love Christmas music? Just south of Cullman, at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, get in the holiday spirit with the Wallace State Fine and Performing Arts program as it presents its annual Christmas Spectacular. This free production will feature performances from the Wallace State Jazz Band, Concert Band, Singers, Concert Choir and Allegro Dance Theatre. This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”
The annual City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is in its 4th year. Last holiday season we gave away over $300,000 to help 116 individuals and families in need, but we need your help to make it happen again this year. With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you know of a single parent struggling to provide for their family, an elderly person who has experienced loss, someone enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need, even if no one else does. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them during this holiday season.” “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success, so we in turn want to be a blessing to others,” Matthew Perry, President of City Lifestyle adds. City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep giving on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is truly rewarding and it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster a culture of generosity.”

Delicious with syrup and powdered sugar
“My French Toast” was created by mistake when I realized we were out of milk and substituted with heavy whipping cream. Much to my surprise, my children absolutely loved it. It is now a must for Christmas morning and a few other special occasion mornings.
I N G R E D IE N T S • • • • • • • •
Sliced bread of your choice 2 eggs 1 tbsp. heavy whipping cream 1 tsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract Butter Powdered sugar Syrup
DIRECTIONS 1. Whisk eggs and add heavy whipping cream. Add sugar and vanilla. Set aside. 2. Heat griddle on medium heat and spray with nonstick spray. 3. Dip bread one piece at a time in egg mixture. 4. Place bread on griddle; cook until brown. 5. Top with butter, powdered sugar and syrup as desired.
