Letter from the Publisher

There’s something magical about December - the way the air feels a little crisper, lights glow a little brighter, and hearts open just a little wider. It’s the season for gathering close, reflecting on the year behind us, and giving generously of ourselves, whether through time, talent, or simple kindness.

In this Holidays + Giving issue, we’re celebrating the spirit of the season through the stories of local people who inspire joy in everyday moments. We spoke with Faith Dixon, a homeschooling mom who’s balancing family, business, and faith through her boutique, RagHouse Boutique, and her devotional, Homeschooling on Purpose.

We’re also sharing festive inspiration to help you make the most of the holidays. From cozy winter drink recipes that bring warmth to chilly nights, to Postal Annex, where we found heartfelt gifts and a family story worth sharing. Trash Bros joins us this month too, showing how even hard work and heavy lifting can make a difference in the lives of others.

And if you’re hosting this season, we’ve got holiday party tips to keep things merry and bright, plus a look at timeless home design trends from BEC Custom Homes that blend classic charm with modern style.

As the year comes to a close, we’re reminded that the greatest gifts often aren’t wrapped, they’re shared. Here’s to celebrating love, generosity, and community this holiday season.

Spreading Joy & Inspiring Confidence

LOCAL HOMESCHOOL MOM BLENDS FAITH AND FASHION TO ENCOURAGE WOMEN

As a homeschool mom, Faith Dixon finds her days filled with teaching and guiding her three sons through school and extracurricular activities. Recently, she added book author and women’s boutique owner to her life journey as well. Through the boutique and the devotional, Faith encourages women to be confident as they go about daily life.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to have my own boutique and sell clothes,” shares Faith. “I really enjoy fashion and love putting outfits together.  I also like to make people feel good and I think sometimes when you have a cute outfit, you feel better.”

To make that dream come to fruition, Faith partnered with Tracie Allen to open RagHouse Boutique. “Our initial thought was to run the boutique in a big bonus room above Tracie’s garage and that is where we held our grand opening,” says Faith. “Then we started doing pop-ups and we really enjoy going out in the community and being part of all the different markets and meeting people.”

Faith describes the boutique’s style as classy chic. “We have some different, funkier pieces that we pair with classier, old money style clothing. We like to mix it up and make it fun,” she says. “We also know that everybody has a different style and look. So, we love putting outfits together, making them fit the person, and figuring out how to make them feel confident.”

The boutique carries an assortment of casual dresses, jeans, tops, and accessories. Pieces are chosen with a mix and match philosophy so that ladies can create their own look, such as pairing fun boutique tops with sophisticated clean-line pants.

RagHouse Boutique’s online store allows shoppers access to the collection at any time. For ladies who prefer to shop in-person, the best way to know where RagHouse Boutique will be for the next pop-up is to check social media. “We usually advertise on Instagram and Facebook where we’re going to be each week,” says Faith. “If someone is interested in hosting us, just send us a message letting us know you’d like for us to come and do a pop-up event.”

This fall, Faith also published a devotional book for homeschooling moms that she hopes will provide encouragement along the journey. In the devotional, Homeschooling on Purpose, Faith uses humor and personal experience to encourage moms as they navigate the daily challenges and rewards of homeschooling.

“When I started homeschooling about four years ago, I felt very alone and was not really sure what I was doing. There is

definitely a learning curve and you’re trying to figure all this out. As I talked to other moms, I realized just how overwhelming it can be for many people. I felt like God was showing me some things that homeschool moms struggle with, whether it be confidence in what you’re teaching or finding other homeschool moms to just be with and encourage. So, I just started writing and before I knew it, I had 31 days,” shares Faith. “In the process, God had been showing me some things about what a privilege and honor it is to be able to homeschool as well as how fun and rewarding it can be for your family and for your children.”

Whether it is through RagHouse Boutique or Homeschooling on Purpose , Faith has a special message for women everywhere. “When I was younger, I spent many years second guessing myself, wondering if I was doing the right thing or what God was asking me to do,” she says. “I want to help women feel confident in themselves, to empower women to embrace who God created them to be, and to encourage them to walk confidently in their purpose.”

Taste and adjust sweetness or strength to your liking. Top with marshmallows. Add whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg, and shaved chocolate.

Optional: Add a pinch of cinnamon and cayenne for spicy depth.

Kid-friendly version: Omit bourbon and add peppermint extract or caramel syrup instead.

POSTAL ANNEX:BUILDINGCOMMUNITY

Jon and Laura McCauley, the husband-wife team of Postal Annex in Riverwood, recently celebrated four years of serving the people of the CSRA through their store in Evans.

In 2020, between COVID and the loss of their oldest son, Jon decided he wanted to do something new. “He started looking at business opportunities and had fond memories of doing mail room and fulfillment back in college,” Laura says. That previous experience led Jon to Postal Annex. “They’re a franchise out of Southern California and we love that Postal

LOCAL RESIDENTS JON AND LAURA MCCAULEY BUILD COMMUNITY AND RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH THEIR SERVICE AT THE POSTAL ANNEX STORE IN RIVERWOOD

Annex is an authorized shipper with all carriers-USPS, FedEx, UPS and DHL,” Laura explains. “It’s a one-stop shop for customers and allows us to find solutions for customers across any of the carriers.”

When they opened in November 2021, Jon and Laura offered shipping, office services, and a limited selection of cards and gifts. Over the last few years, they have expanded what they offer in-store. “We have fun gift items,” Laura says. “They’re small gifts, but they’re unique.” They also offer special greeting cards from companies like Blue Mountain, Bald Guys, Printed Canvas, and several others.

Also in-store is Jon’s laser engraving business: 212 Enterprises. “We do the laser engraving on site,” Laura says. “He’s the one who does the designs. When people come in to create an item, they’re talking to the person who’s going to be doing the work.” They offer a variety of items to engrave: wood, acrylic, glass, leathers, hats and hat patches, powder-coated drinkware, and more.

212 Enterprises’ presence in-store only adds to the familial atmosphere that is already present at Postal Annex. Jon and Laura are local and invested in their community. “We live three minutes from the store,” Laura says. “We live in Riverwood and serve the people of the surrounding areas.”

Being local enhances the couple’s ability to offer the best service to their community. “We’ve built relationships over the last four years with many of our customers and we know what’s going on in their lives. Jon recognizes people, knows their names, and remembers their stories,” Laura says. “When some of our older customers don’t show up for a while, we honestly start to worry about them, using our unique connections to check on them.”

The community in the store doesn’t end there. As Christmas approaches, they have several activities in-store. “One of Santa’s elves will deliver Santa’s mailbox for the kids to drop off letters for Santa,” Laura says. This year, the Santa mailbox runs from about November 24th to around December 20th.

“We also do what we call ‘What’s in the Box?’ and we wrap something up from the store and

you have to guess what’s in it,” Laura continues. “If you guess the item, you get it.” The box with the mystery item is usually out for a week, but Laura notes that some weeks it’s figured out the first day and other weeks it stays a mystery until Friday or Saturday.

The couple hopes to continue serving and building relationships in the community for years to come. “We’re here for the long run because this is our community,” Laura says. “We’re invested in the service that we’ve provided. We want to be that one-stop, that place people come to for shipping and more.”

Postal Annex Riverwood’s services include shipping in the United States and internationally; office services such as faxing, copying, printing, and shredding; private mailboxes for those who want a street address instead of a P.O. box; video digitizing; and gifts-including items through 212 Enterprises.

To connect with Jon and Laura, visit them on Facebook where they have two pages, Postal Annex RW and 212 Enterprises, LLC, or go to their website at www.postalannex.com/ location/evans/21005

CLEARING THE WAY for Cleaner, Happier Communities

TRASH BROS TACKLES BIG CLEANUPS QUICKLY, RELIABLY, AND EFFICIENTLY

Through Trash Bros, Travis and Christina Barnes and their team help CSRA residents and businesses tackle big tasks by cleaning out and removing unwanted items. Whether it is helping a homeowner with a small job like disposing of an old couch, or a commercial client with a large clean-out need, Trash Bros takes on tasks with speed and efficiency to get the job done.

“Seeing the reaction of the customer and the relief that we’ve gotten the job done is very rewarding,” shares Travis. “They are usually amazed at how quickly we are able to do it and many of them call us back for future jobs.”

Transformations are often dramatic, and Travis takes pride in seeing the results of each completed project. “When we go in for a complete clean-out due to an eviction or someone moving, it’s such a satisfying feeling to look at the spaces within the home and see how good it looks in a short amount of time. It’s hard work but very satisfying.”

In this business, time is often of the essence, which is why Travis and Christina prioritize providing excellent customer service. Because many projects need to be handled within 24-48 hours, they answer inquiries, provide quotes, and finalize scheduling details as quickly as possible.

“Seeing the reaction of the customer and the relief that we’ve gotten the job done is very rewarding.”

“We can do some quotes over the phone, using photos if needed. For larger jobs, we like to quote in person so we can get a scope of what we’re doing and decide if we can get all the items with our trailer or if we need to bring a dumpster to the property,” explains Christina. “Communication is key, and we really listen to our clients and make decisions based on what they need because they are why we’re here.”

EMBRACE THE SEASON WITH THESE HOLIDAY PARTY TIPS AND TRICKS.

Good Holiday PARTY VIBES

Just like that, it’s officially the most wonderful time of the year. And while you may still be stuffed from all the turkey, it’s time to start planning the ultimate holiday party. I’ve included some tips and tricks to make sure it is the absolute best time for your guests.

01

SETTING THE ATMOSPHERE IS CRUCIAL.

The mood is subjective to the type of party you’re having, though. This could include a tree in the corner, an advent wreath on the table, a menorah on the counter, or other decor aligning with your celebration. Either way, I personally recommend lighting a fire in the fireplace or playing a looping video of one on your television to create a festive and cozy ambiance.

02

HOLIDAY GAMES ACT AS ENGAGING ENTERTAINMENT.

I once played a game where little trinkets from the Dollar Tree were wrapped in a massive ball of plastic wrap, and guests had 30 seconds to unwrap as much as possible before passing it to the next guest, claiming the unwrapped trinkets as their prize. It definitely gets the adrenaline up and provokes quite a few laughs at the random items wrapped inside.

03

Whether a simple apple dip (8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup toffee bits served with apple slices) or a festive drink, such as a cranberry Moscow Mule (2 oz vodka, 1 oz cranberry juice, 1/2 oz fresh lime juice, ginger beer, and fresh cranberries with a sprig of rosemary for garnish), serving holiday-themed food and drinks amplifies the atmosphere.

THE PLAYLIST IS, IN MY OPINION, THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ANY HOLIDAY PARTY.

04 FOOD AND DRINKS PLAY A MASSIVE ROLE IN THE HOLIDAY PARTY SCENE.

While everyone is mingling, it is crucial to have some festive background noise. And, while the classics are well, classic, here are my go-to, more modern song choices for some great holiday fun!

• “Christmas Isn’t Cancelled (Just You)” - by Kelly Clarkson

• “Drummer Boy” - by Justin Bieber

• “Fancy Like Christmas” - by Walker Hayes

• “Hot Chocolate” - by Tom Hanks  (From the Polar Express soundtrack)

• “It’s Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries” - by Carly Rae Jepsen

• “Naughty List” - Liam Payne featuring Dixie

• “Redneck 12 Days of Christmas” - by Jeff Foxworthy

• “Stretchy Pants” - by Carrie Underwood

• “Text Me Merry Christmas” - by Straight No Chaser featuring Kristen Bell

• “The Chanukah Song” - by Adam Sandler

Now go create your own, special playlist, pour yourself a mug of eggnog, and dance the night away!

MODERN TWIST

TIMELESS HOME FEATURES MAKING A COMEBACK WITH A FRESH, MODERN EDGE

Brick-Lined Interior Arch

A stunning architectural detail that adds warmth and craftsmanship, brick-lined arches are re-emerging as a favorite in today’s homes. This feature draws the eye, creates natural flow between rooms, and brings a sense of old-world charm that balances beautifully with modern open-concept layouts and lighter color palettes.

Copper Porch Lighting

Copper fixtures are lighting up entryways across the South, offering both elegance and durability. With their rich tone and natural patina, copper lights add a welcoming glow that feels refined yet rustic. They’re timeless accents that complement brick, stone, or siding—perfect for homeowners seeking curb appeal that only improves with age.

Raised Wall Paneling

Clean lines meet classic design in the return of raised wall paneling. This timeless technique adds depth, texture, and sophistication to any room, turning simple walls into statement features. Paired with modern paint colors or contrasting trim, paneling brings dimension and charm that feels traditional yet perfectly at home in contemporary spaces.
