The Top 1,200 award included top advisors in each state, with the number of ranking spots determined by each state’s population and wealth. For both awards, other quantitative and qualitative measures include assets under management, revenues generated by advisors for their firms, and the quality of the advisors’ practices, regulatory records, internal company documents, and data provided by the advisors themselves.

Local restaurants offer a bounty of delicious options just in time for fall

Flavors of Fall

Sip + Savor

“SOME OF OU R FAVORITE LOCALCHEFS ARE OFFERING SOME DELICI OUS CULINARY OPPORTUNITIES THIS FALL .

For a real treat without any tricks, some of our favorite local chefs are offering some delicious culinary opportunities this fall.

If you are craving fresh seafood, then head to Tycoon. Tycoon’s new menu addition for fall is Miso Sea Bass. It is a pan-seared, miso-glazed Chilean sea bass and served with whipped garlic mash, cremini mushrooms and steamed broccolini. Arrive early and enjoy happy hour drinks at the unique glow bar or on the cozy patio.

Since Sip + Savor opened their doors in 2022, the restaurant has offered an extensive list of wines and craft cocktails. The courteous staff can help you pair the perfect glass of joy alongside their

fall dish which includes a Nashville dusted double bone pork chop alongside brussel sprouts and hot honey pancetta. The chop’s very slow roasting is the secret to its flavor and success as a favorite dish. Check their website for wine and whiskey events on October 10 and 17.

Pasta is a dining favorite and Salerno’s Italian Restaurant in Highland Village does not disappoint. New for fall is their Jumbo Ravioli which can be ordered with cheese, beef or lobster. This fresh pasta can be covered in a choice of sauces and the lobster ravioli boasts its own unique flavor with a thick, rich vodka sauce. Also included in the fall line-up is a Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini which is perfect for sipping at the newly remodeled bar area.

For more fine dining in Highland Village visit Bistecca Steakhouse where they are combining American cuisine with an Italian touch. This flavor is perfected in the Wisconsin-raised lamb chops, grilled on an open fire to capture a bold garlic flavor and just the right amount of tenderness. An Italian Steakhouse with an elegant atmosphere for the perfect romantic evening.

A French flavor adventure awaits at Vieux Carre. The knowledgeable staff is known for recommendations and lively conversation to enhance your meal. Begin with a timeless fondue and progress to the Boeuf Bourguignon as an entree. Wine classes are offered to those who would like to deepen their appreciation for fine wines.  CONTINUED >

Another savory seafood choice can be discovered at Shoal Creek Tavern. The Old Bay Trout, Shrimp and Crab is perfectly pan-seared and boasts a flavorful Cajun sauce. This delectable entree is served with Cajun orzo and jalapeno hush puppies. Enjoy a craft cocktail as you dine and hear about daily specials that will certainly prompt a return visit.

MARY JO MAZUR FINDS JOY IN HER “IMPASTABLE” CREATIONS

The Art of Pasta

In her cozy home kitchen in Flower Mound, surrounded by a myriad of tools and a hearty dusting of flour, you’ll find Mary Jo Mazur transforming simple dough into intricate works of art. Her journey into the world of pasta making isn’t just about food; it’s a story of resilience, creativity and joy. In February 2023, while the world outside continued its usual hustle, Mary Jo found herself in a different rhythm. Confined to her home for three weeks due to health reasons, she needed something to occupy her time and engage her mind. Little did she know that this period of recovery would mark the beginning of a creative journey that would transform her into a pasta artist, captivating both her own imagination and the hearts of her growing online community.

A SPARK OF INSPIRATION

Mary Jo’s venture into pasta making began unexpectedly after discovering the work of Linda Nicholson, a Seattle-based pasta artist. Inspired by Nicholson’s vibrant creations, and recognizing her need for an outlet during her respite, Mary Jo decided to experiment with pasta art herself. Valentine’s Day provided the perfect occasion for her first attempt: red-wine-striped ravioli. Although her initial efforts were far from perfect, the joy of creating something new and experimenting with colors and patterns was the real reward. Each pasta batch became a new canvas and with practice, her confidence and skills improved.

CONTINUED >

A LEGACY OF TRADITION

Mary Jo’s love for pasta is deeply rooted in her childhood memories. Growing up in a large IrishItalian family, Sundays and Tuesdays were dedicated to pasta. Sundays were for fresh pasta, homemade sauce and meatballs, while Tuesdays were for leftovers, with Mary Jo and her siblings vying for the best bites. These meals were more than just food—they were lively gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and the comforting aroma of homemade sauce, becoming the backdrop of some of Mary Jo’s most cherished memories. These early experiences shaped her passion for pasta and influenced her approach to her art. Every piece of pasta she creates is infused with a sense of nostalgia, honoring the past while embracing the present.

THE ARTISTIC PROCESS

The world around Mary Jo plays a significant role in her creative process. She finds inspiration everywhere, from the vibrant blooms of the local flower mound, to global events like the 2024 Olympics, which inspired her to create an Olympic-themed series, including gold medal ravioli and Eiffel Tower lasagna sheets. “My mind, it doesn’t stop,” Mary Jo shares. “When I walk at the gym on the track, I see fettuccine noodles. When I visit craft stores at Christmas, all I can think about is, ‘How would I make that with pasta?’ Often, my pastas have a story behind them or people who have inspired them, like the gender reveal pasta for my grandson or the sunshine ravioli for one of my students’ National Broadway Tour of Annie.”

Her approach to pasta making is unique. She uses vegan powders like butterfly pea flower powder, black cocoa, and beetroot, along with vegetable purees, to color her dough, creating vibrant hues. Her tools range from simple items like a gnocchi board and basic ravioli maker to more specialized, artisan tools like Sardinian brass cutters and handmade wooden molds.

THE BIRTH OF “NOTHING’S IMPASTABLE”

As Mary Jo’s pasta art evolved, so did the reactions of those around her. Friends and family were often astonished by her creations, exclaiming, “That’s not pasta!” or “Is that really pasta?” These reactions inspired the name of her Instagram page, “Nothing’s imPASTAble,” which perfectly captures the spirit of her work—transforming the seemingly impossible into something not just possible, but beautiful.

GROWTH AND THE JOY OF SHARING

Mary Jo’s pasta art has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, particularly on Instagram. Her creations often elicit comments like, “That just made me smile,” or, “That made me laugh.” For Mary Jo, this feedback is invaluable. She hopes her work encourages others to follow their passions, no matter their age or experience level. “You’re never too old to try anything and see where it leads,” she says. Pasta making has become more than just a hobby for her—it’s a form of relaxation, almost therapeutic, offering joy while being challenging and rewarding at the same time. Through Instagram, she has also immersed herself in a vibrant community of pasta makers, exchanging ideas, techniques and encouragement with fellow artists who share her passion for turning simple ingredients into something extraordinary. CONTINUED >

Though she doesn’t sell her pasta, Mary Jo loves sharing it through gifts and ministry meals. She also enjoys teaching basic pasta-making classes that empower others to create something beautiful for their families.

LOOKING FORWARD

As she looks to the future, Mary Jo is excited about the possibilities ahead. She dreams of continuing to challenge herself creatively and exploring new techniques. Mary Jo also finds herself longing for the chance to spend time in Sardinia. Often, she says, she will laughingly tell her husband that wishes to be a

“pasta granny,” spending her days along the old cobbled roads, making her pasta by hand in the idealized, traditional way. For now, she’s content to keep experimenting, sharing her art with the world and finding new ways to bring joy through her pasta creations.

In a fast-paced world, Mary Jo Mazur’s pasta art is a reminder to slow down, savor the process and find beauty in the simplest things - showing us that it’s never too late to discover a new passion.

Visit Mary Jo’s Instagram page @ nothingsimpastable_texas  to contact her about pasta making classes and to see her latest creations.

Driving to the Harvest Moon

5 VIBRANT EVENTS AND LOCATIONS TO TRULY EXPERIENCE AUTUMN

Though eastern states like Maine, North Carolina, and Virginia are well known for their fall foliage and festivals, some of us, including this author, may not yet be fit for the colder weather nor have the time for a trip to the coast. Luckily, east-coasters aren’t the only ones willing and able to celebrate the season, and there are plenty of options near and far, much warmer and accessible to Texans.

MOUNTAIN MUSIC FESTIVAL

Embark on arguably one of the most scenic drives in the nation for fall foliage to Eureka Springs, AR for its annual Harvest Moon Festival - a five-day music event tucked away in the stunning colors of the Ozark Mountain range. Though the small town may only be a few switch-back roads, it’s full of character and charm especially this season and is well worth the short road trip. Stay in the notoriously haunted Crescent hotel for the full October experience.

MUNICH OR MUENSTER?

Feel like you’ve left the country less than an hour away at Muenster’s annual Oktoberfest. Embrace the German culture by simply enjoying a pretzel or bratwurst followed by some beer or fully immerse yourself by competing in the Stein Hoist or eating contest. Either way, it’s hard not to have a good time surrounded by friends and family participating in one of the world’s longest and largest celebrations just down the road.

Dallas Arboretum

ALL THINGS FORESTRY

For a truly unique celebration of fall, head north to Wright City, Oklahoma just outside of Beavers Bend State Park for the town’s annual Lumberjax Festival. With a lineup filled with axe throwing, a Mr. & Mrs. Lumberjax Pageant, crafts, local art, and more, this lesser-known festival will surely intrigue all in attendance. End the day stargazing by a campfire at a rental cabin nearby.

PICTURE PERFECT PUMPKINS

Though there are many pumpkin patches in the area, it’s hard to argue that any are greater than Autumn at the Dallas Arboretum. With over 100,000 squash and gourds and thousands more fall plants throughout the garden, the festival is renowned for being one of the best in the nation. This year’s theme “Texas Town” takes visitors through Texas History.

COLORFUL CANYON

Though the sight of the red rocks in Sedona at any time of year is hard to beat, the lesser-known Oak Creek Canyon may steal the show as the leaves change for Autumn in Arizona. Take the scenic drive to experience the full hues of fall and drive up to Slide Rock State Park for its annual Fall Festival at a historic apple orchard or take a hike to fully enjoy the breathtaking views of the city.

RIVERSIDE AND ROWDY

Perhaps one of Texas’ largest fall celebrations, Wurstfest in New Braunfels is the event of the season. With live music, carnival rides, games, dancing, and Bavarian-styleBavarian style food and entertainment, the festival is fit for all ages and is sure to impress each participant. Grab your Dirndl or Lederhosen and head south for the 10-day event packed with German festivities!

“There is no shortage of fun to be had this fall, so be sure to take in the gorgeous scenery around us before it’s time to bundle up indoors!”
The Crescent Hotel

The Reign of Yuzu and Spice

Just as skinny jeans and bomber jackets made their way into our wardrobe over the years, the trends of culture don’t stop at the closet, they make their way into the kitchen as well.

A glimpse at the menu of Rustico Wood Fire Grill and Wine Bar is an excellent example of what trends bars and chefs around the world are mixing up and how they are using creativity to gather people around the table once again—an idea that is close to the heart of Rustico owners Marty Bryan and Brian Gasperson.

Major food publication, The Kitchn, noted the “supreme reign” of fruit-based cocktails in 2024. And Rustico’s cocktail menu seems to hit this proverbial nail on the head. Rustico’s most popular drink is its namesake cocktail, The Rustico, which is made with Western Sons blueberry vodka, lemon and simple syrup, is topped with red wine and garnished with a sugar rim. Both The Rustico and the Watermelon Sunrise emphasize fresh fruity flavors that The Kitchn notes. Even Straight From the Ranch—a

delicious combination of Fever Tree Lime and Yuzu and Codigo Blanco—capitalizes on yuzu, one of the fruits The Kitchn cites as one of 2024’s favorite flavors.

Balancing out the fruity trends and another of Rustico’s fan favorites, the Spicy Jalapeno Cucumber Margarita invites an aspect of the savory and spicy, blending Codigo Blanco, orange and lime juice, agave, jalapeno and cucumber.

This margarita is an excellent example of the exploration of the “dinner” cocktail. Both TIME magazine and Bon Appetit write that “dinner” drinks are becoming and popular, in terms of being paired with specific dishes but also made with savory aspects.

Rustico’s blend of the classic and the trending emphasizes the modern feel of the restaurant. It blends the homey and Texan touch of the woodfire grill and deep oven menu while retaining a metropolitan, high-end atmosphere. Stop by during their happy hour to enjoy a 50% off cocktail, wine or beer and an item off their woodfire menu.
