opened in the Highland Village Town Center.

The entire second grade at Liberty Elementary wanted to make a difference in their community, especially as the holiday season was nearing. The students did just that by bonding together to collect a record 4,639 servings of food for Lovepacs, an organization that works closely with local public schools to provide meals for children in need when they are not at school. A nine-week social studies project on good citizenship began in September and the students were all in. After compiling donations of their own with the help of their families, students wrote letters—some recited them by memory—for neighbors, friends and extended family members explaining the importance of the project and encouraging them to donate. They would even leave those letters on doorsteps with a promise they would return, along with their parents, at a certain time to collect any donations.

CHILI COOK-OFF FESTIVITY RAISES FUNDS FOR VETERANS AND PROMOTES FELLOWSHIP FOR FAMILIES From cornbread to side dishes—and, of course, chili—Liberty Christian’s 14th annual Chili Cook-off brought the school community together for good eating and a good cause, raising more than $4,500 for Spirit of a Hero, an organization that provides financial and moral support for veterans of the United States armed forces. On November 10, the last home football game of the year, Liberty fans perused booths sponsored by student clubs, athletic teams and parent-owned businesses. STERLING BROOK CUSTOM HOMES CREATES HOUSES THAT ARE ONE OF A KIND

N

ORTH TEXAS’ OWN STERLING BROOK CUSTOM HOMES HAS BEEN CREATING ONE-OF-A-KIND STRUCTURES AROUND TOWN SINCE EARLY 2009. Builder Wayne Atkins, a Double Oak resident, says the company’s passion and dedication to their craft set them apart from competitors.

“We are passionate about providing our clients with an

energy efficient and comfortable home that not only fits their lifestyle but improves their lives,” he says. This recently completed, award-winning build in McKinney proves that Atkins and his team know how to deliver.

THE PLAN Atkins says the goal of each project is to blend the client’s budget with their wish list and create a dream home. But the process encompasses a lot, including site planning and interior space planning, as well as both interior and exterior design. To get the ball rolling, clients begin by providing photos of design examples and desired room sizes. “Space planning, room location and site orientation are crucial to a good flowing design that fits our client’s lifestyle,” he says. “THE MARKET IS FULL OF POORLY DESIGNED HOMES WITH WASTED SPACE AND ROOMS THAT DON’T WORK FOR THEIR OWNERS.”
