BRINGING BACK THE PASTA! Pasta di Solazzi Returns to the Springs

ARTICLE BY KAREN MITCHELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY PASTA DI SOLAZZI

Minnesota, Europe, Oregon, Colorado. An unlikely geographical zig-zag, yet endearingly the foundations of Gregg Braha and Gina Solazzi’s love story. After meeting in college, they spent three months bicycling Europe. Gina’s family lives in Italy and after their tired wheels landed them in Italy, they rekindled relationships with these familial locals. The food, company—the air alone—left a new ping in their souls and Pasta di Solazzi began taking shape in them. Gregg and Gina met a pasta maker during their stint in Oregon who encouraged them to purchase a pasta machine. The only catch? “You must not open a pasta shop near here.”

COLORADO SUNSHINE That’s the permission they needed to trade in cloudy skies and constant rain for Colorado’s sunshine. The machine followed their arrival to Colorado Springs as well as their destiny of salt, flour, eggs and a deli. In time, they built relationships with customers and had three beautiful baby girls. The children brought a spark to the deli and added love to the experiences of their guests. Years passed and countless bellies satisfied, all from a corner spot on Uintah. In all of the ways that 9/11 affected the American people, the aftermath included Pasta di Solazzi, as well. Months prior, they’d transitioned to a larger space off of Centennial in expectation of several established, out-of-state companies relocating there. Following the American tragedy, none of those companies came to Colorado Springs, causing all but one business nearby to close their doors. Greg went back to school and earned his masters in teaching. Gina went to work at a non-profit. They’ve lived a good life.

PASTA: A SECOND CHANCE Three sweet daughters who grew up in Pasta Di Solazzi—taking capers to school for lunch, helping to package pasta— recently approached their parents with a plan to reopen what they loved so dearly. Gregg and Gina are tickled, eager and humbled by their girls’ memories and desire to share with the public what they’ve only enjoyed at home as grown women. They’ve breathed life back into what once was. Their loyal customers have returned and Gina is enjoying being back in the kitchen. For $50 a month, they’ll deliver 2 pints of sauce and 2 pounds of pasta. And as they say, “Our pasta is so good it makes people happy!” Website: pastadisolazzi.com Facebook + Instagram: @PastaDiSolazzi

VINTAGE VEHICLES TO MOBILE BARS SUGAR MOON BAR CARTS READY FOR SUMMER

Rye is an uncommon crop in Colorado, but sugar beets are plentiful, so back during the prohibition era, moonshiners along the front range had to get creative. Spirits made from sugar beets became known as “sugar moon” by locals in the 1920s. When Kelli Crosby learned about this token of Colorado history, she knew Sugar Moon would be the perfect name for her vintage mobile fleet.

SUGAR MOON BAR CARTS

Kelli and her husband, Scott, love a good party. They also have a knack for turning oneof-a-kind vintage vehicles into mobile bars with big personalities. With a background in physical therapy, Kelli has always had a talent for “mechanics,” but when she had the idea to transform an old camper into a mobile bar cart that could be rented for events, her creative side really began to shine. One remodeled 1958 Mercury Canned-Ham Camper and a refurbished 1962 Cushman Truckster later, the Sugar Moon Mobile Bar fleet was officially complete and ready to grace an array of events with their presence. “My husband and I have always had a love for entertaining and DIY projects, so this is a business venture that combines the two and infuses fun and blissful memories into people’s lives.” If you didn’t already know, mobile bar carts are all the rage, and for good reason. They’re a great alternative to a traditional bar, they can go virtually anywhere, and they undoubtedly add to the ambiance of any event. People naturally congregate around the bar, so Kelli thought: Why not make it unique? Designed and reconstructed by Kelli herself, the 1958 camper, dubbed “Betty,” and the teal 1962 Truckster “Otho” are the photo props of Instagram dreams. Sugar Moon’s vintage trucks are a novelty your event guests will fall in love with. “We do weddings, but we also do bridal and baby showers, corporate events, birthday parties, you name it,” Kelli explains. “We were very intentional with our design, so our bars are fully functional, paying special attention to bartender needs and wants. But the best part about our mobile bars is that they are so darn cute!” With taps to pour perfectly chilled prosecco, craft beer, cocktails, cold brew coffee, kombucha, or even hot chocolate, Kelli constructed and designed her mobile bars so that she could outfit them for any occasion. “I call them outfits, and joke that it’s like playing dress-up,” she laughs, “I have nine different outfits for the Truckster; I’ve even designed a flower box and a wall for donuts.” Sugar Moon Bar Carts will surely create a moment at your event. A memorable alternative to keg party pumps or tubs of ice on folding tables, they’re a functional prop you’ll want to show off time and time again. 35 Years of Film and the Feminine ARTICLE BY KRISTIAN DEPUE | PHOTOGRAPHY BY STELLAR PROPELLER PHOTOGRAPHY & ROCKY MOUNTAIN WOMEN'S FILM

Longest-Running Women’s Film Festival in North America Based in Colorado Springs

Linda Broker

When asked about films that have left a lasting impression, Linda Broker speaks about The Rescue, a documentary that follows the Tham Luang subterranean rescue in 2018. “It’s about the rescue efforts to reach a Thai soccer team that got trapped in a cave in Thailand,” says Broker. “It was a huge news story, and the documentary follows the cave divers on this elaborate rescue. It’s a fabulous film.” The Rescue was directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and her husband, Jimmy Chin. The duo also directed the documentary, Free Solo—which won Best Documentary Feature at the 91st Academy Awards. Broker is the executive director of Rocky Mountain Women’s Film, responsible for the long-running eponymous film festival. The institute was originally founded in 1987 by Jere E. Martin and Donna Guthrie, and its first festival was held in ’88. Each year, the festival showcases documentary features, shorts and narratives and women filmmakers. Broker has been with the institute for 28 years. “I got involved in ’94,” Broker says. “For six years, I held a variety of volunteer spots until 2000, when I was hired as director.” “I appreciate Linda’s steadfast belief in the power of women to tell the good and bad of life stories and her belief that film is the most powerful narrative form,” says Sally Sharpe, long-time supporter. “Rocky Mountain Women’s Film expands my world, and is a jewel in Colorado Springs’ crown,” Sharpe continues. “I appreciate the depth and breadth of the film topics—and the ability to meet filmmakers to discuss their craft.” Rocky Mountain Women’s Film elevates the stories of women and others who are often unheard or unseen. The 2022 Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival will occur the weekend of November 11th at the Colorado Springs

Fine Arts Center. “It’s our 35th anniversary,” Broker says. “We’re the second longest running women’s film festival in the world, and the longest in America.” Beyond the curated festival, the institute hosts a number of events year-round, including Film in the Community, a drive-in cinema event, Film in the Park, rooftops viewings and Shorts Night—an annual fundraising evening consisting of decorated short films, held at Stargazers Theatre. “Film in the Community offers one free screening a month,” Broker says. “Sometimes we host it at the Lincoln Center, but usually try to go to various locations.” “They pick incredible films that create conversations, giving women’s voices a chance to be heard,” says Leah Fitzgerald Riehl, co-owner of Terra Verde Boutique, a sponsor. “Every time I’ve watched one of their films, i t h as opened my eyes,” continues Riehl. “Film is a beautiful way to educate. You sit in a room of people all watching the same picture, and take away something different. Films are a lens into different perspectives.” Emily Dean Kim—who sits on the institute’s board of directors as vice president—concurs with Sharpe, Riehl and Broker, summing up what the unique institute offers: “Rocky Mountain Women’s Film is a cultural and intellectual gift to Colorado Springs, bringing global experiences and stories of engaging people and places to audiences that otherwise may not have access. November’s festival is my favorite event. I’m proud to share our community with both filmmakers and the festival audience who travel to Colorado Springs to share in the experience of film.” Website: rmwfilm.org Facebook + Instagram: @rmwfilm

Uncover Your Beauty When Dr. Robert Vogt, MD, opened the TFP Aesthetic branch of his practice, I was immediately intrigued. The Family Practice is a top practice in the Colorado Springs area, known for its exceptional full-spectrum patient care that considers the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions affecting their patients’ wellbeing. Widely known for their caring and thoughtful approach to medicine, I was certain they would go above and beyond for their aesthetic program. Eager to find out for myself, I scheduled a consultation. When you first walk into TFP, it’s exactly what you’d imagine a state-of-the-art medical practice to be: calm, clean and beautiful. But just a few doors down the hall, you’ll find yourself transported into a luxury oasis, beckoning rejuvenation and refreshment. The aesthetic room is draped in shades of blue tempered by gold-flecked accent pieces. With soft musical tones playing and salt rock lamps for ambiance, it’s evident that every last detail matters. The best part? In that room, your skin is in the hands of Colorado Springs facial queen and skin guru, Regina Anderson. Not only did I fall in love the with the thoughtfully curated and elevated aesthetic of TFP Aesthetics wing, but I fell in love with Regina’s intuitive expertise. Dedicated to continuing education and training herself on the latest techniques and evolving product ingredients, Regina is devoted and intentional with a natural gift for skincare.

TFP AESTHETICS: EMBRACE BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY SKIN ARTICLE BY SYDNEY E. NELSON PHOTOGRAPHY BY SYDNEY REZNER PHOTOGRAPHY

Regina Anderson

Before meeting Regina, I perceived facials as a luxury. After signing up for TFP’s monthly membership, I decided to put my preconceived notions aside and committed to staying consistent with my skincare. The result? Regina transformed my skin. Since joining TFP’s monthly membership, my skin has continually reaped the benefits of Regina’s vast knowledge as an esthetician. Not to mention all the additional perks of a TFP membership, such as discounted medical and clinical grade skincare, Botox and the award-winning sculpting treatment, SculpSure. It’s apparent that when The Family Practice added an aesthetic clinic, they put a great deal of time and thought into creating illustrious experiences for their clients. With Regina’s talent at the vanguard, TFP is on its way to becoming one of the most prevalent aesthetic clinics in the Colorado Springs area. Intrigued? Don’t just take my word for it. I asked Regina, the aesthetic mastermind herself, to share a little more insight: Why did you become an esthetician? I’ve always been fascinated with skincare–even more so than makeup. When I was a teen, I thought makeup was exaggerated and natural beauty was keen. I worked in the medical field for over 25 years and decided to focus my career on something that I was truly passionate about. My goal is to make my clients’ skin so beautiful, they don’t really need makeup and can own their own radiant skin.

What sets TFP Aesthetics apart from other aesthetic studios? TFP is focused on serious skincare. Clients looking for honest answers and a proven regime, combined with facials and treatments, love us because we are a team of medical doctors, physician assistants and medical aesthetics “myself” all in one. We offer fair prices, so “you’re not paying for the chandelier,” but more than anything, we all share a common goal of striving to uplift our clients. When you walk through the doors at TFP, we believe you deserve the best and I am dedicated to providing that experience. Are facials just a luxury? What are the benefits of consistent care? Not at all. Facials help with hyperpigmentation, aging, acne, rosacea, deep cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, detoxing and so much more. Think of it like a reset. No product will penetrate dry, dead skin. Facials uncover beautiful bright, untouched new skin cells. Our skin is our biggest organ, so we need to keep it healthy. After all, you wear your face every day and the confidence that comes with clear, beautiful skin is priceless.

If someone was looking to begin building a skin regimen, what products do you recommend they start with? Honestly, it’s not a one size fits all. But that’s the beauty of having a relationship with your esthetician. We can build a regimen specifically for your skin and curate your routine as your skin changes through the seasons. I will always be honest with my clients on what could benefit their skin, and when they don’t really need a specific treatment. It helps build trust and reassures my clients that at TFP, we are results driven. Commit to beautiful skin with a VIP membership at TFP. Mention the magazine and receive a complimentary add on to your first facial. Website: tfpaesthetics.com Facebook + Instagram: @thefamilypracticecos

GARDEN OF THE GODS TRADING POST STARTED SOMETHING BIG

“Tourism has always played a part in bringing people to the area and the Haas family has been a part of that growth for decades.”

Garden of the Gods Trading Post was built by Charles Strausenback in 1929, but he had been selling his wares at the park since the age of ten. Strausenback would sell his own carvings or paintings to park-goers until he spent one summer taking pictures of tourists at Balanced Rock. The original Trading Post was built in traditional adobe style and spanned 2,000 square feet. Upon his death in 1967, Strausenback’s wife Esther continued running the post until it was acquired in 1979. Over the next 20 years, the Trading Post was to see quite the expansion. Tim and Terry Haas purchased the Trading Post and expanded it from the original 2,000 square feet to the 25,000 square feet it is today. The Trading Post now houses a restaurant, general store, one of the largest art galleries in Colorado as well as activities for the whole family. The Hasses have since expanded to incorporate other stores in the Colorado Springs area within the Colorado Retail Collection under TAT Enterprises, Inc. Mountain High Gallery and Gifts, Mountain High Sportswear, Manitou Outpost, The Vault, and The Spark are a few of the places around town where you can find quality jewelry, gifts and art that celebrates the Colorado lifestyle. Colorado Springs was founded with the vision of being a destination. One hundred fifty years later, the mountain views and ample opportunity for activities allows us to continue to fulfill that dream. Tourism has always played a part in bringing people to the area and the Haas family has been a part of that growth for decades. Each location in The Collection is in

a historical building with the hopes of bringing Colorado history to life for all who enter. The history is proudly displayed on their website and generally the staff have a few tidbits to share as well to enhance the Colorado shopping experience. Not only were the number of stores in the area growing, but the company was, as well. Tim and Terry Haas transitioned the company over the years from a family-owned business to an employee-owned company. Many of the core employees have been with the company for decades and The Collection employs upwards of 200 employees in the height of the tourist season. At the start of 2020, The Collection decided to branch out and include a clothing boutique to the fold. EllyBlue owner Pat Stark was a staple for years in her Old Colorado City location, providing exceptional customer service and casual Colorado style to locals and tourists alike. The Colorado lifestyle is a combination of colors and textures. It’s easy, but also put together and always ready for adventure. The shop location as well as the ambiance was just what the company strives for in all their shops and they asked Stark if she would be a part of The Collection. The name of the boutique, EllyBlue, represents Stark’s dog Elly who has one blue eye and one brown eye. Coloradoans have a special affinity for their furry family members and when the opportunity was presented to add another boutique to The Collection in May of 2020, they expanded. Stella & Beau are the Haas family pups and the namesakes of the boutique. The names are a nod to the uniqueness of this boutique in that it offers both men’s and women’s items. CONTINUED >

The boutique business has taught The Collection that men’s clothing and gifts are a growing trend. David Maddox, President of TAT Enterprises, indicates that it’s easier to find either high end men’s clothiers or cheaper retailers, but there is a current void for boutique menswear and gifts. The Colorado lifestyle lends itself perfectly to boutique wear and they didn’t want to leave out their male clientele. The Colorado Retail Collection is interwoven into Colorado Springs’ culture and is a champion of voicing the traditions and history that have gotten us to where we are now. A vital part of the local economy as well as preservationists of our history and architecture, the Colorado Retail Collection makes sure to give back where they can. It is a core value to give back to the community and within that, they donate $100,000 per year to support the upkeep of Garden of the God’s park. It’s not difficult to support local families, business owners, historians, and artists. In fact, The Colorado Retail Collection has made it their business to make it as easy as possible. Saunter in soon to pick out your very own piece of the Colorado lifestyle, and make sure to say hello to your patrons. Odds are, you have something in common and there is usually something to be learned. Website: gardenofthegodstrading post.com and traderzebs.com Facebook: @GOTGTP Instagram: @gogtradingpost

• Red Star Subs and Deli offers a great selection of sandwiches, salads and charcuterie options with flavors from across country and an extra touch of Chicago. • Dun Sun is a family-owned, fast-casual, Asian-inspired street eats concept with tacos, bowls and sandwiches. • Inspired by Midwestern roots, Noble burger showcases classic fare from Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as new interpretations of standard sandwiches, sides and burgers. • Kumbala specializes in barbacoa and pozole–authentic Mexican fare and comfort cuisine. And every menu item is gluten free. • Gift Horse Bar & Cafe is an all-day concept serving coffee drinks, pastries and a full bar.

BEAUTIFUL BUILDING

The building is a gem, restored to its former art deco glory that once housed an auto repair shop and a bus depot, but with a Colorado twist. The courtyard will offer activities like bocci ball, corn hole, giant connect four, as well as live music. What one might not see in the comfortable seating, colorful murals and spacious gathering areas are the offices in the east part of the building. These offices are now housing a philanthropy collective focused on investing in Colorado Springs through mission-related community development by means of economic development. These philanthropists are looking to bring the community together through food and fun while working in the background to look for more outof-the-box ways to grow the community we all know and love. WINGS OF BLUE:

60 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE ARTICLE BY ASHLEY HAMERSHOCK | PHOTOGRAPHY BY UNITED STATES AIR FORCE

USAFA PARACHUTE TEAM MEMBERS LEARN ABOUT MORE THAN JUMPING OUT OF PLANES

42

H OM E TOWN H E R O | SPORTS + RE CRE ATI ON

It’s brisk and overcast as the US Air Force Academy parachute team cadets hop into the waiting Twin Otter plane. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Sitting side by side on the metal benches, they buckle up. Close the door. Roll. “Go! Go! Go!” the team chants as the plane taxis down the runway, then quickly climbs to 4,500 feet. This is a training mission–a cadet is working on his jumpmaster certification. He drops red and yellow wind drift indicators out of the open door and performs a final check on the first two jumpers. After tweaking a couple of things, out they leap, with the next group following a few minutes later. CONTINUED > MAY 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/C OLORA D O S P R I N G S

AM-490

WINGS OF GREEN + WINGS OF BLUE

Each year, about 700 cadets take the Academy’s basic freefall parachuting course: Airmanship 490 (AM-490). It’s the only certified jump program in the world where students make their first freefall jump unassisted. Cadet Lauren LaDuque says she barely remembers her first jump, but she jokes that she does remember thinking: “Who let me do this? How is this an approved program?” The sophomore from Liberty Hill, Texas, says her second jump is easier to recall: “It’s the closest thing I can describe bliss as.” Before their first jump, everyone must have more than 40 hours of rigorous ground training. LaDuque buckles into a harness suspended from the ceiling in the 98th Training Squadron facility to demonstrate what cadets practice over and over (and over) before their first jump. Things like hand and foot positions, running through equipment checks and making sure the airspace is clear around the plane. Instructors throw them countless complications during ground training to prepare them for almost any situation during an actual jump. In an emergency, they want muscle memory to kick in. Seconds could mean the difference between life or death and the program has never had a fatality in its 60-year history. “You are going to be prepared,” said Maj. Lauren Franks, jump flight commander. After five solo jumps, about 400 cadets earn their jump wings. Of those, 200-ish typically try out for Wings of Green (WoG), a one-year program that trains cadets to become official members of the elite Wings of Blue jump team. Roughly 25 are chosen.

LaDuque made the cut last year and now, as a so-called WoG, is helping her Wings of Blue counterparts train AM-490 students. “We really do put them through the ringer,” she says. It’s about safety. But it’s more than that. Many cadets will never make another jump after they leave USAFA, but the lessons will stick with them forever—learning to deal with stress, working through fear, leading in the face of danger, trusting fellow airmen. Lt. Col. Matthew Tuchscher, commander of the 98th Flying Training Squadron, says the program gives students exposure to aviation and teaches leadership, with cadets serving as instructors. “I feel like a lot of the stuff we do here is helping people grow. … helping us be better officers,” says LaDuque, who hopes to serve as an intelligence officer when she graduates. Payton Rawson, a sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., agrees. As the Twin Otter circles over the Air Force Academy and he awaits his turn to make his 86th jump, he explains the procedures, saying he’s “so grateful” that he was selected for Wings of Green. Although it adds hours to his already busy schedule each week, he loves it. What is he looking most forward to? “I’m excited to send my first student out,” he says. The primary mission Wings of Blue is to run the AM-490 program. But when these world-class jumpers aren’t teaching underclassmen, they’re performing and competing around the world.

“It’s the closest thing I can describe bliss as.”

DEMONSTRATION + COMPETITION When Wings of Green graduate to Wings of Blue, they are selected to serve on either the competition (comp) or the demonstration (demo) team. The comp team has been competing since 1962 and is the winningest collegiate parachute team in history. The demo team comprises the remaining team members and represents the Wings of Blue at college and NFL football games, air shows and dozens of other precision jump events each year. In May, they’re jumping into the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy 500. And before that? The day before USAFA’s graduation, they’ll jump into the graduation parade. Parker Garrison is a senior on the Wings of Blue demo team, with 622 jumps. One of his most memorable experiences was his first pro-rated demonstration jump at a Nebraska Cornhusker football game. The Highlands Ranch, Co., native says he didn’t know much about Nebraska, except that it had a lot of corn. Then he jumped into a 90,000-seat, sold-out stadium to cheering so loud it shook his parachute. “They treated us like celebrities." As he wraps up his time at USAFA, the business management major says being on the Wings of Blue has been one of his favorite parts of college. “There’s nothing quite like it,” Garrison says, later adding, “It’s hard to put into words. I’ve met my best friends on this team. I’ve gotten to do some amazing things that no other college experience would offer.” Website: usafa.edu/wings-of-blue Facebook: @USAFparachuteteam Instagram: @usaf_wingsofblue

Glamping + Camping near Colorado Springs Fresh Air and Fun Await!

ARTICLE BY ASHLEY HAMERSHOCK | PHOTOGRAPHY BY DANIEL FORSTER PHOTOGRAPHY

Fresh air. Towering mountains. Excellent fly fishing. Countless miles of hiking. Few biting bugs. Comfortable temperatures. People travel from all over the world to camp in Colorado. Save yourself some fuel and travel time and explore our backyard.

NATIONAL PARKS Colorado is home to four national parks and nine other national historic sites, trails and monuments. If you haven’t checked them out, go! Rocky Mountain National Park – This stunning 415-square mile park 150 miles northwest of Colorado Springs offers sparkling lakes, mountain peaks, meadows and 300 miles of hiking trails. Five campgrounds live within the park’s borders. You can reserve a spot up to six months in advance

at Aspenglen, Glacier Basin and Moraine Park. The other two, Longs Peak (tents only) and Timber Creek are firstcome, first-served only. If the in-park campgrounds fill up, the nearby Estes Park area offers several alternatives. Great Sand Dunes National Park – Did you know that Colorado is home to the tallest sand dunes in North America? It’s true! About 170 miles southwest of Colorado Springs, a desert rises from the mountains. Hike the dunes. Rent sand sleds or sand boards and ride down. Play in Medano Creek when the snow melt is flowing in May and June. Stay in the park itself or nearby at Sand Dunes Pool campground – an unassuming parking lot with a huge spring-fed pool, restaurant and more. Mesa Verde and Black Canyon of the Gunnison – These national parks are a bit further, but both are worth the drive.

STATE PARKS Colorado boasts 42 state parks and each has different features. Lakes. Mountains. Hiking. Biking. Even a golf course? What? Such diversity and artistry. Mueller State Park – Ahhhh, Mueller. The state park system’s worst-kept secret. Book six months out or you won’t get a spot during peak times. Endless hiking. Photography. Wildlife watching. Mueller has over 5,000 acres of forests, meadows and boulders. Want a little civilization? Hop over to nearby Cripple Creek or Victor for a few hours. Lathrop State Park – An easy drive down I-25, Lathrop State Park sits at the base of the beautiful Spanish Peaks near Walsenburg. Colorado’s first state park has two lakes with boating, fishing and swimming, plenty of hiking and… wait for it… the state park system’s only golf course. Lots of recreational opportunities here! Cheyenne Mountain State Park – If Lathrop is Colorado’s oldest state park, Cheyenne Mountain is its newest, acquired in 2000. If you want somewhere close, look no further. This park is tucked into the foothills just above Colorado Springs. And it’s lovely. Lots of amenities here, including an archery range and easy-to-navigate, level campsites. Eleven-Mile State Park – Colorado is known for its mountains— not necessarily its lakes. This reservoir is worth a visit, especially if you’re an angler. Check this place out for trophy rainbow, brown, cutthroat, kokanee and pike. You can rent a boat at the marina. There are also five miles of scenic hiking and biking trails. It can get windy here, but it’s loads of fun.

RESORTS Jellystone Park at Larkspur – Come on… Who doesn’t love Yogi Bear? Water parks? Mini golf? Cocktails? Pools? Tennis? Hot tubs? Jellystone has changed a bit over the years. It used to be a rustic little campground where kids could chase goats through the forest. Today? It’s family friendly a resort. Bring your RV or stay in one of the well-appointed cabins. Black Tree Resort – Looking for something more upscale? This might be your place. Leave the work to them. The kitchen delivers fresh Colorado cuisine to your fully furnished wall tents. And picture this: queen size beds, Pendleton blankets, linens, electricity and access to a private bathroom. Glamping. A quick 45-mile drive from Colorado Springs, near Lake George. Cutty’s Hayden Creek Resort – Good, clean fun! Located about 90 miles southwest of Colorado Springs, Cutty’s is just the right kind of old school. Shuffleboard, mini golf, karaoke, bingo, an arcade, indoor and outdoor pools. Let the kids run free and enjoy the fresh air. Rentals available including cabins and covered wagons.

DISPERSED CAMPING If you prefer rustic, Colorado also boasts millions of acres of publicly owned land. Closest to the Pikes Peak region is million-acre Pike National Forest. Just check ahead of time to make sure you allowed on that particular swath. Whatever your camping style, wherever you decide to roam, take a deep breath and savor each moment.
