Happy St. Pat's Day! WELCOME TO THIS, OUR HOME ISSUE. As I write this, I'm battening down the proverbial hatches for what's looking to be the snowstorm of the century for the state and metro, not to mention record-breaking cold temps. Got out and stocked up on food and snacks, toilet paper and other necessities, and games for the grandnephew to help keep him amused while we're stuck indoors. Brrrr!

You'll read inside about how one area custom home builder not only is building homes that are beautiful and comfortable, but more energy-efficient than most, definitely a plus here in Oklahoma where temperatures run the gamut from freezing to hot, sometimes in the course of 24 hours! Are you thinking of having a home custom built in the next year or two? You may wish to check out a local business that allows prospective home buyers to "walk through" their plans, which are projected on the floor or wall in full scale, as opposed to blueprints, which many find difficult to understand and visualize. The walk through can potentially save home buyers from making costly mistakes and having to change their plans in mid-build, which can add greatly to the final cost of the home. You'll also read about a realty company with deep roots in the community that takes

You deserve to have a dedicated team that provides a high level of service and personal attention, whether improving your portfolio or just having conversations about financial goals and life changes, please call us today. We look forward to helping you make a financial plan that meets your personal needs.
The Pioneer Library System’s PLS Reads returns in March, and readers have selected the novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, by Wes Moore, as the featured book for this year’s initiative. Each year, PLS identifies a topic that's relevant on a community, state and national level. Members of the community select a book to be read and the library provides programming throughout the year to explore and discuss the issue further. The topic chosen for PLS Reads 2021 is poverty, and the book will be Wes Moore’s 2010 novel on the lives of two young men from the same neighborhood who share a name but quite a different story. One goes on to success and fortune, while the other ends up serving a life sentence for murder. For the past 14 years, PLS has participated in both The Big Read and PLS Reads, inspired by the National Endowment for the Arts. Activities now continue under the “PLS Reads” theme. PLS Reads 2021 is sponsored by the Pioneer Library System Foundation and the Anne & Henry Zarrow Foundation.

Inspired by Hollywood Regency pieces of the 1950s and 1960s, this home features mixed combinations of metal, brass and marble using bold colors of navy, mustard, magenta and deep teal greens. We have our employees wear masks, wash their hands frequently; we also try to stagger the times when our different contractors are working on the job sites.”

OKLAHOMA MADI
WOMEN’S WILLIAMS
STARTED 2021 WITH LOTS TO CELEBRATE. Though the Sooners ultimately lost the contest against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Jan. 3, the game was one of Madi’s most outstanding performances of the season to date. The 6’0” guard scored 45 points in the contest, shattering the school’s single-game scoring record and earning her the honor of being named the Big 12 player of the week. This performance also represents the most points scored in a Big 12 game and the second highest score in Division I basketball to date this season. “It was definitely one of my most proud moments as a player,” Madi reflects. “I think it shows the hard work that I have put into the player that I have become.” Madi is averaging a team-leading 20.6 points this season and has firmly established her presence as a powerhouse on the court, scoring her 1000th career point in January. “We are working really hard to put out good basketball during these confusing times,” Madi adds. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Madi came to Norman in the 2018-19 season as a highly anticipated five-star recruit. “It means a lot to me to be playing at OU,” she says. “Not everyone gets this opportunity, so it really is a blessing.” Madi has capitalized on her opportunities during her career at OU, leading the Sooners in rebounds during her sophomore year and scoring double digits in 27 of 30 games in the 2019-20 season. Now in her Junior year, Madi is the Sooners’ leading scorer and is looking to expand her role on the team. “What I enjoy most about being a student-athlete is the relationships I get to build with my teammates,” she explains. “I enjoy the time that I get to spend with the coaches and other students.”

Madi Williams
Her contributions to the team have not gone unnoticed by the coaching staff. “Madi has spent two years working to get consistently good, if not great, at a couple of things,” observes Colton Coale, assistant coach for the Oklahoma women’s basketball program. “This year, she’s figuring out a million different ways to get to those couple of things, both one-on-one and with her teammates. It’s been the most fun I’ve ever had coaching. She’s elite, and she’s just getting started.” In February, Madi was one of only 16 players across the nation added to the Dawn Staley Award watchlist by the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia. The award recognizes the most outstanding collegiate guards across the country and is made up of players who exemplify excellence in ball handling and scoring and demonstrate a will to win. Madi is one of only two Big 12 players to receive the honor this season. Madi says she feels at home in Norman and values the college-town feel and its close proximity to all the places to enjoy in Oklahoma City. Off the court, she enjoys watching Netflix, YouTube and, of course, basketball games on ESPN. As she begins to plan for her senior year and life after college, Madi says that she aims to play professionally after graduation. She also hopes that she has helped pave the way for young girls hoping to follow in her footsteps. “My best advice is to make sure you find the right fit for you,” she recommends. “Take the time to find your game and don’t rush the process.” As Madi continues to grow as both a leader on the team and a prolific point scorer, OU is proving to be a perfect fit for her.

I UNDERSTAND THAT BY USING PROJECTED PLANS, SOON-TO-BE HOMEOWNERS CAN SAVE MONEY AND TIME. CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS? Once they approve their plan, the builder will charge a lot of money to make changes. It also causes delays when changes are made. A lot of people cannot visualize what they are building from a piece of paper, and once building starts, they see things in actual size and want to make expensive changes, or the house gets completed and they move in wishing they would have changed some things about the house. STAYCATION IN DOWNTOWN OKC
NEW OMNI OKC HOTEL OFFERINGS INCLUDE A SPA, POOL, FINE AND CASUAL DINING, AND SO MUCH MORE
CONSIDERING A STAYCATION THIS SUMMER? Or maybe you’ve got out-oftown family or friends coming for a visit who are looking for a fun place to stay? You now have a brand-new option in the Omni Oklahoma City Hotel. Located in Downtown OKC at 100 W. Oklahoma City Blvd., the 17-floor hotel features 605 guest rooms, including 29 suites, with well-appointed furnishings, regional influences and dramatic views of Scissortail Park and the downtown skyline. Upon first entering the hotel during a recent visit sponsored by Omni, I was struck by the size of the lobby, the gas fireplace that stretches the length of the lobby, and the plentiful and comfortable small-group seating options, as well as the attention to detail.

Steve Keenan, Omni OKC Hotel general manager,
notes that the lobby, food and drink establishments, other common areas and guest rooms draw inspiration from
Oklahoma’s pastoral landscape, including earth and sky.
Rustic, earthy tones predominate, representing the prai-
rie and sunset. Common areas, guest rooms, ballrooms and spa also embrace textured walls and components of wood, metal and chevron patterns that pay homage to the local industry; Oklahoma’s state bird, the Scissor-tailed flycatcher; and the economy of the city and its surroundings. Several paintings showing the state’s wide-open spaces with striking clouds by local artist David Holland adorn the guest room corridors. The Myriad Gardens and Scissortail Park are among attractions located a short walk away, and the Oklahoma City Streetcar (OKCStreetcar.com) has a stop just caddy-corner to the hotel, allowing visitors to roam much of the city’s most popular attractions for a minimal cost without resorting to their personal vehicles.
Guest rooms come with a view of either the OKC Downtown or Scissortail Park.

bar) and Double Double Burger Bar. At OKC Tap House, we ordered one of their signature pizzas, along with two sandwiches—the Pork Banh Mi, a Vietnamese-inspired sandwich generously topped with fresh cilantro, and the Chicken Teriyaki—both were quite tasty. Before leaving the next morning, we sampled the delicious coffee at Park Grounds, which is billed as a “neighborhood espresso bar, ice cream shop, bakery and deli”; the shop features everything from micro-roasted artisanal coffee drinks and locally sourced ice cream to fork-and-plate pastries and savory sandwiches. Stance Coffee, points out Keenan, is the hotel’s own, responsibly sourced brand.

+ A full-service Mokara Spa, open by appointment to both hotel and non-guests, provides a tranquil relaxation lounge featuring head-to-toe treatments, a revitalizing sauna and pampering nail services. Its design pulls inspiration from the state’s important commodity—cotton. It’s already drawn local praise; at the time of our visit in early February, it had already been fully booked for Valentine’s Day. + The hotel also offers a 24-hour, state-of-the-art fitness center. The center, which is complimentary to hotel guests, features Peloton exercise bikes and views of the city.

able for rent to provide a shady reprieve from the sun during the day. As the sun sets, unwind to the danc-
ing flames and relaxing vibe of the poolside fireplace.
The pool bar, Catbird Seat, features an inventive menu of refreshing craft cocktails and delectable food selections, while sliding glass doors allow for year-round enjoyment.
Room views, especially from the higher floors, allow for breathtaking panoramic views of either Downtown OKC or Scissortail Park, depending on which side of the hotel your room is situated. During our recent
stay, we were ensconced in a room on the 17th floor overlooking the downtown—and the view, especially at night—was, indeed, beautiful.
We found courteous, helpful associates every-
where we went at the Omni, which didn’t surprise Keenan, who noted that Omni Hotels & Resorts (a
family-owned chain of convention, downtown and resort hotels located throughout North America and based in Dallas) maintains a philosophy that
includes treating staff as family, encouraging mentorship and advancement.

FOR KATHY AND STEVE GRIFFITH, OWNERS OF PRIME REALTY INC., the so-called “bottom line” is only one part of the business equation. The Griffiths consider their talented staff as members of the family, their clients as extended members of the family, and their community as not only the place in which they do business, but where they live and play and learn—and where they believe giving back is important. Five years ago, on June 19, 2016, area couple Kristen and Jacoby Gonzales went to check on their infant daughter, where she was discovered dead in her crib. The cause was determined to be SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. After Penelope’s tragic passing, the couple sought for a way to bring some meaning to their loss, as well as a way to help prevent this from occurring to others. Life, as they say, happens. A year and a half after Penelope’s passing, the couple joyfully welcomed into their home twin boys, joining Penelope’s older sister, Emmaline. A year ago, Kristen joined Prime Realty Inc. as a Realtor, and her husband enrolled in school full time; he will apply to dental college this summer. It also took the couple some trial and error as they navigated the complex path to creating a nonprofit foundation. However, the couple never put their dream aside, and they are now moving full steam ahead on what they have dubbed the “Penny Project,” which was formally established in December 2020. Through the foundation, the couple hope to provide as many low-income families as possible with the Owlet Smart Sock, which monitors a child's heart rate and O2 levels; if the heart rate or O2 drops below the norm, it sets off an alarm to alert the parents. The socks can be worn from birth to 12 months. For
