TIFUL UPSCALE BROWNSTONE IN THE HEART OF OKLAHOMA CITY’S DEEP DEUCE DISTRICT. Though of a smaller scale than our 2016 photo shoot at the Montford Inn, we drew on several of our previous participants, including Cayman’s Clothiers, who supplied three complete outfits complete with boots/shoes and handbags, and Huntington Fine Jewelers, who supplied an eye-catching selection of necklaces, earrings and rings. We even called back one of the models from last time. It’s hard to believe that Taylor Concialdi Witte—a pre-K teacher at McKinley Elementary School in Norman—isn’t a professional model. However, we’re equally sure her students are glad she is keeping her “day job”! This year, we asked Salon AUDACE to perform the hair styling for the model. The look they achieved was flattering and elegant—and it remained in place even during the phototaking on the third-floor outdoors terrace on a hot and humid day in August. No mean feat!

Norman East Library Opens Doors Norman’s third library, Norman Public Library East, has opened its doors at 3501 E. Alameda St. The library project—a part of the Norman Forward quality of life package approved by Norman voters in 2015—features 12,500 square feet of space housing a collection of more than 20,000 items, with meeting rooms, study rooms, outdoor spaces and areas for children’s, teen services and technology use as a priority.

OKLAHOMANS, AS A RULE, ARE LED BY A FASHION SENSE THAT’S UNIQUE TO THIS STATE. Clothes, shoes and accessories can be stylish and chic, but are generally purposely understated. Shelly Cox, owner of Cayman’s Clothiers, has a keen eye for what today’s fashion-conscious woman is looking for. In December 2016, when Cleveland County Lifestyle was still shy of its first anniversary, we looked to Cox to dress our models for a massive fashion shoot at the Montford Inn. Reader response was overwhelmingly positive. So, when publisher Jimmy Darden decided to schedule another fashion shoot for August, we of course again turned to Cox to supply our model’s clothing and accessories, including footwear and hand bags, with an eye to what's fashionable this fall. Again, her selections were right on target; we think you’ll agree. In 2016, Huntington Fine Jewelers supplied the jewelry for our male and female models. We were gratified when they again agreed to supply a selection of stunning rings, earrings and necklaces for our August photo shoot. And again, we were wowed by the beauty and craftsmanship of each piece. For this photo shoot, we selected a newly constructed GABRIEL NY 14K YELLOW GOLD STARLIS NECKLACE

three-story structure overlooking OKC’s downtown was a design collaboration between Anthony McDermid, AIA, RIBA, principal at TAP Architecture, who resides in the house with his wife, Aubrey, and custom home builder Alan Cheshier, owner of Muirfield Homes. The approximately 5,000-square-foot, upscale brownstone features a nicely appointed guest apartment on the first floor, as well as a six-car garage. The second floor features a large kitchen and master bedroom; the children’s bedrooms are on the third floor, which also houses a smaller kitchen and living area. A third-floor terrace offers a spectacular view of the downtown area, including Devon Tower. Our model, Taylor Concialdi Witte, also modeled for our 2016 photo shoot, though (surprisingly), that has been the extent of her modeling career thus far. When not modeling for Cleveland County Lifestyle, Witte is a pre-K teacher at McKinley Elementary in Norman. Originally from Houston, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2014 with a degree in early childhood education and says she “fell in love with this town and the community.” She was married in March to Nick Witte. Shane Adam Webb at Salon AUDACE styled our model’s hair. The look is elegant, and stood up to the heat and moisture while shooting the outside terrace shots! A TO Z NEW LOCAL NONPROFIT DETERMINED TO BRING MUSIC TO EVERY CORNER OF AMERICA
PRODUCTIONS ORGANIZERS BEHIND A NEW NORMAN-BASED CULTURAL NONPROFIT ARE DETERMINED TO BRING MUSIC TO EVERY CORNER OF AMERICA— STARTING WITH OKLAHOMA. A to Z Productions, which gained 501(c)(3) status in March, is composed of the Norman Philharmonic and the Richard Zielinski Singers' traveling 24-voice choir and incorporates educational outreach and international studies aspects into its mission. Spearheaded by Richard Zielinski, Norman Philharmonic music and artistic director and music faculty at the University of Oklahoma, A to Z Productions aims to define a new approach to presenting music that can ignite public interest and bring people back to church, theaters and performance halls in appreciation of the arts. As a 501(c)(3), A to Z Productions nonprofit organization now is federal tax-exempt as dictated by the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. “The Norman Philharmonic and the Richard Zielinski Singers have been an artistic entity in the U.S. for eight to 10 years, and A to Z Productions was just the next step for us to develop a 501(c)(3) for funding,” Zielinski said. “We aim to bring more people from diverse communities together, and our goal is to produce high-quality music, but also promote American music not only in the orchestral arena, but also with singing and bringing back songs that were important to America.” A focus on the arts is as important as ever, as non-musical plays, operas and jazz concerts experience floundering attendance, and orchestras across the country struggle to survive, Zielinski said. A to Z Productions wants to lead the charge locally to move the needle in the other direction.

The young nonprofit already has witnessed great success with the Richard Zielinski Singers and its recent accomplishments while touring in Poland in June, performing nine concerts in just 13 days. In addition to competing at the Kamien Pomorski Organ Chamber Music Festival and the Organ and Chamber Festival at Cathedral Basilica of St. James the Apostle, the Norman-based vocal group took home the Grand Pix - Outstanding Choir Award at the International Miedzyzdroje (Poland) Choral Song Festival. While the Norman Philharmonic sets an objective to establish Norman as the center of excellence in the arts and excite area youth about symphonic music, the Richard Zielinski singers provides the people of Norman and beyond with music that often packs a message of unity in its lyrics. “The singing aspect of it can really get into community in a way that orchestral music can’t always do,” Zielinski added. “You connect to an emotion with singing. Music can be the international language that can bring people together as it highlights important issues that should be brought to the foreground.” The organization also intends to promote the arts and humanities through programs with Norman Public Schools and a summer music academy for underserved communities of children and adults. In addition, collaborative arts programs that incorporate music, dance, film and visual arts also will be a focal point of the organization. Under A to Z Productions, the Norman Philharmonic and Richard Zielinski Singers will continue to have a presence at music festivals not only throughout the region, but throughout the nation and the world, increasing the organization’s reach and furthering Norman’s legacy as an arts-centered community.

vanilla bean panna cotta
INGREDIENTS + 1 qt. heavy cream + 1/2 cup sugar + 1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise, seeds scraped + 2 1/4 tsp. unflavored powered gelatin + 3 tbs. water + Mixed berries for garnish
DIRECTIONS In a medium saucepan, combine the cream, sugar, vanilla bean and seeds. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Remove from the heat, cover, and let steep for 15 minutes. Meanwhile in a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the water and let stand until evenly moistened, about 5 minutes. Uncover the cream mixture and bring just to a simmer over moderately high heat. Remove from heat and add the gelatin; stir until dissolved. Remove the vanilla bean and save for another use. Pour the panna cotta mixture into eight 4-ounce ramekins and let cool to room temperature. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until the panna cotta is set but still jiggly, at least 3 hours. Serve in the ramekins with fresh berries. NOTE:Â If a special shape is desired, a silicone mold may be used instead of the ramekin. To unmold the panna cotta, dip the mold into boiling water for three seconds and invert over serving dish.

+ 1/2 pint raspberries + 1/2 pint blueberries + 1/2 pint strawberries + 3 tbs. sugar + 1 tbs. lemon juice + 1 tbs. frambiose, Grand Marnier or orange juice
DIRECTIONS Combine berries, sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan and heat until fruit is softened. Remove from heat and puree in food processor until smooth. Strain through a sieve and stir in liqueur or orange juice. To serve: Pour directly on the panna cotta in a ramekin and garnish with fresh whole berries, make a swirl or zig-zag design on a plate using a small nozzle bottle and place the panna cotta from a mold on top of the design.
