LIFESTYLE LETTER

Cheers To A New Year Cheers to a New Year, and stories to inspire you as January arrives with a certain kind of magic, and the feeling of a fresh start. It’s the month where we flip the calendar, take a deep breath and imagine the version of ourselves we want to step into. A new year brings excitement, hope and opportunity, but if we’re honest, it can also bring pressure. Resolutions, expectations, the feeling that we need to start big. This year, we’re choosing something different. We’re choosing consistency over intensity, progress over perfection and joy over pressure. As publishers and partners in business and in life, we’ve learned that real transformation doesn’t come from sweeping changes, but from small, steady habits that support your physical, emotional and mental well-being. You don’t need a complete overhaul to grow. You just need to take the next right steps as often as possible. A choice we've made is to begin clearing out items in our home filled with toxic ingredients and replacing with plant-based items. Our Red Light Sauna we purchased is the most exciting new year item in our home, using it 20 minutes a day to help with inflammation and so much more! And that’s exactly what our January Health and Wellness edition is all about. Inside this edition, you’ll find stories that inspire both calm and motivation. And, as always, our mission is to highlight local businesses, local people and local stories that uplift our community. As you step into 2026, remember this: It’s not the giant leaps that change your life; it’s the daily steps you take with intention. Join the class. Try the new thing. Book the appointment. Rest when you need to. Celebrate as often as possible. And make space for the small joys that make life feel full. Here’s to a healthy, balanced and joyful new year. We’re cheering for you, and we’re honored to share this beautiful city with you. Happy New Year,

ETHICAL BEAUTY, EXPERT RESULTS

From the moment guests step into The Saint Louis Med Spa, they sense something intentional: an atmosphere rooted in clean, ethical, personalized luxury. The soft glow of candles, the spa’s signature scent and a calm, curated aesthetic set the stage for a wellness experience designed to feel indulgent yet deeply grounded in medical expertise. It is exactly the environment Elizabeth Hebson envisioned when she and her husband opened the med spa two years ago. “I missed working with patients. I missed helping people feel better about themselves,” she says. That desire to reconnect with patient care ultimately became the heart of the business. The Saint Louis Med Spa has since expanded into a larger building,

widely recognized for their ability not only to support weight reduction but also to reduce inflammation. Semaglutides target GLP-1 receptors, while tirzepatide functions as a dual agonist, activating both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. Many clients choose microdosing for steady, gentle progress. “We look at weight loss through a holistic lens, how you feel, how your labs look, how your energy shifts,” Elizabeth explains. Within treatment rooms, the approach is equal parts clinical and customized. Clients begin with an infrared sauna session to increase circulation and enhance treatment absorption. Consultations follow, giving providers time to understand concerns such as pigmentation, sun spots, wrinkles, acne or early preventive care. Many of these issues, particularly brown spots, age spots, redness and vascularity, are treated with BBL (BroadBand Light) laser, which effectively lifts and ablates unwanted pigment. Injectable services are approached with the same ethical intentionality. Elizabeth describes their style as “youthful, natural and never overdone.” After weight loss, many clients experience decreased volume in the cheeks, temples, chin and jawline, areas that are thoughtfully restored with fillers to bring back lift and proportion. Sculptra provides an alternative for those seeking subtlety, gradually stimulating the body’s own collagen production. Another natural-leaning option, PRFM (Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix), involves drawing the patient’s blood, spinning out the plasma and re-injecting it for rejuvenation, particularly under the eyes. This next-generation method is longer-lasting and more natural-looking than traditional PRP or hyaluronic acid fillers. Microneedling, one of the spa’s most requested services, stimulates collagen equivalent to a year’s worth of natural loss in a single session. It smooths fine lines, softens wrinkles and dramatically improves acne scarring. The wellness menu even extends into cellular longevity. NAD injections (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) support improved metabolism, energy and bloodwork, helping slow and even reverse signs of aging at the cellular level. Through every service, Elizabeth says she returns to a guiding principle: “Our goal is always ethical, results-driven beauty. We want clients to look and feel like the best version of themselves.”

S H A R E D C R A F T, D I S T I N C T V O I C E S : THE CHEFS BEHIND THE BASSO EXPERIENCE

Chef Frans Dinkelmann Basso Cheshire

Executive Chef Dan Sammons, Basso Westport

When director of restaurants Blaise Pastoret speaks of Basso, he speaks of legacy — one built on intention and a return to culinary roots. The original Basso, nestled inside the historic Cheshire, opened in 2012 with a vision Blaise describes as “the first elevated gastro-pub experience in St. Louis, modern Italian cuisine expressed through familiar forms.” Wood-fired pizzas, handrolled pastas, antipasti, fish, pork and refined interpretations of classics shaped the restaurant's early foundation. It became known for craftsmanship and reliance on housemade elements, such as ketchup, aioli, marrow butter, yeasted potato rolls and ingredients sourced from “local purveyors who take pride in their work, including Amish growers whose produce guides our seasonal changes,” Blaise explains. Entering the Cheshire location feels like discovering a secret. Guests descend a green terrazzo spiral staircase into a dining room warmed by flickering gas lamps and soft music. The woodfired pizza oven glows at the center, a hearth around which the room orbits. It is here that Chef Frans Dinkelmann has spent the

last year shaping Basso’s story through his own lens of creativity and mentorship. “I was born in South Africa and raised in Chicago,” Frans shares. “I’ve always leaned toward the creative: art, music, anything expressive.” Cooking eventually became his most natural medium. “When I discovered the vast array of ingredients and techniques in the kitchen, I recognized endless opportunities to create.” With decades of experience, Frans grounds his leadership in a principle learned under Chef Christopher Pope in New Mexico. “He taught me that running a successful kitchen starts with surrounding yourself with the best people possible. Learn what each person is good at and put them where they can thrive.” For Frans, meaning lies in the fleeting nature of the craft. “Food is ephemeral, hours of preparation, minutes of enjoyment, but the happiness it brings people is the most rewarding part.” He hopes to honor Basso’s legacy while “contributing to the excellence built by the great chefs who came before me.” CONTINUED >

Basso On The Plaza

Across the city, Basso Westport, which debuted in May 2025, presents a contrasting architectural personality, airy and expansive. A dramatic wood façade opens into a dining room framed by floorto-ceiling wraparound windows. Daylight floods the space before evening reveals the signature Basso glow: gas lanterns, a fireplace and communal farmhouse tables alongside intimate booths. At its helm is Executive Chef Dan Sammons, whose 22-year career includes leadership roles at Basso at The Cheshire, 360 Rooftop Bar and multiple Be Polite Hospitality concepts. “Returning to lead the new Basso at Westport Plaza has been invigorating,” Dan says. “Innovation and quality continue to drive me, and the larger kitchen here allows for an expanded menu while staying true to the soul of Basso.” Through both chefs, Blaise’s guiding philosophy remains constant: simplicity as luxury. “Pizza dough should have three or four

ingredients, pasta two or three,” he notes. “When you rely on so little, every ingredient must be exceptional.” Seasonal shifts, stone fruits and root vegetables in cooler months, vibrant summer produce in warmer ones, anchor the menu in authenticity. Two chefs, two kitchens, one enduring approach: modern Italian craftsmanship rooted in place, seasonality and the elegance of restraint.

How Megan Sinclair Rosso Is Redefining Luxury Auto Retail At Dave Sinclair Lincoln in St. Louis, luxury begins with a simple and rare element: people feeling like they matter. For dealer principal Megan Sinclair Rosso, that belief is the foundation of everything she does. As the first woman in her family to lead one of the Sinclair dealerships, Megan is known for bringing a forward-leaning approach to a deeply rooted family business. She says her leadership is shaped by a lifetime spent inside the dealership. “I grew up on these showroom floors,” she explains. “Customers still stop me to share stories about my grandpa. Funny enough, most of them revolve around food. He was always giving people doughnuts, cookies, farm-fresh tomatoes. It was his own version of luxury hospitality, and people never forgot it.” Megan began working at the dealership at age 13 as a file clerk. She then moved through nearly every department, including rental, reception, service advising, sales, finance and service management. She says her father believed that one cannot lead a store without understanding the work behind every position. She embraced that challenge, gaining firsthand experience. She became general manager during the COVID-19 pandemic and officially stepped into the role of dealer principal on August 1, 2024, becoming the first woman in her family to reach that milestone. Megan says her leadership style centers on clarity, consistency and an unwavering commitment to customers. That philosophy helped the dealership earn the Lincoln President’s Award, the brand’s highest recognition for excellence in both sales

performance and customer satisfaction. The Sinclair family has earned the award multiple times across three generations, and Megan proudly secured her first in 2023. One of the most significant shifts in recent years has been the dealership’s success with mobile service. Megan invested in the program early, trusted her service manager’s vision and gave him the space and support to build the right structure and the right team. “It was his strategy, and he did a remarkable job,” Megan says. “My role was to invest in it, back him and not be afraid to grow something new.” That partnership paid off. Mobile service saw more than 100 percent growth in its first full year under the new structure. Repair order volume rose, technician utilization improved and customer satisfaction scores climbed as clients embraced the convenience of having certified Lincoln technicians come directly to them. For larger repairs, the dealership expanded pickup-and-delivery options, creating a seamless experience that aligns with today’s definition of luxury: personalized, efficient and built around the customer’s time, not the dealership’s. Mobile service now has become a defining strength of the store and a reflection of Megan’s leadership philosophy. The Sinclair name has been part of St. Louis since her grandfather, Dave Sinclair, opened the family’s first dealership in 1966. Today, Megan’s father, James Sinclair, serves as the owner and patriarch of three of the family’s stores: Dave Sinclair Ford, Dave Sinclair Lincoln St. Louis and Dave Sinclair Lincoln St. Peters. “Megan’s new era of leadership has seen sales and service grow year over year, proving her capability and vision for the future.”

He began his career washing cars and worked through every level of the business. By the 1980s, he was a key manager when the Ford store became the number one Ford dealership in the nation. Beyond her leadership inside the dealership, Megan is an influential voice in both the automotive industry and the St. Louis communities. She was named to Automotive News’ 40 Under 40 Class of 2025, a recognition that highlights her impact, results and role in shaping the future of luxury auto retail. She serves on the board of EquineAssisted Therapy, a nonprofit that supports children with disabilities and veterans through therapeutic riding programs. It's a cause she's volunteered with for years and one that reflects her family’s strong connection to horses and ranch life. Professionally, she's the vice chairwoman of the Missouri Auto Dealers Association’s Next Generation committee, where she helps engage and develop rising dealership leaders across the state. She also helped establish MADA’s Women in Auto committee, which will support and connect women working in all areas of the industry. At the national level, she's the vice chairwoman of NADA’s first Women Leaders 20 Group, a groundbreaking peer network designed to strengthen the influence and expertise of women running dealerships. At home, Megan and her husband, Tim Rosso, are raising their three young children and growing a cattle operation that reflects their shared love of the outdoors and hard work. Dave Sinclair Lincoln is located at 13980 Manchester Road. Hours of operation are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. “I want the store to feel the way my family always intended it to feel,” she says. “When people walk in, they should feel welcomed, cared for and part of something bigger. H a b i t s Fo r New Yo u RAINIE HOWARD BOOK: “THE LOVE HABIT; DAILY SELF-CARE PRACTICES FOR HAPPIER LIFE AND HEALTHIER RELATIONSHIPS”

ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALLEN B. THOMPSONA

Rainie Howard’s daily self-care habits: specifically prepping healthy meals, daily fitness and expressing herself through painting and art.

26

H EA LT H Y LIF E ST Y LE | L IF E + CU LT U RE

"I will no longer tolerate less than I deserve" is the life lesson shared by a St. Louis-based motivational speaker and author who keenly focuses on personal transformations. In the book The Love Habit about balancing one's overall health, author and relationship expert Rainie Howard explores the profound connection between self-image and daily habits: emotional, mental and physical, and how these actions shape relationships with others. Whether seeking to enhance communication with loved ones, establish boundaries or foster greater self-love and acceptance, what she references as 'The Love Habit' is a persistent commitment to prioritizing mind, body and spirit by aligning oneself with appreciation, peace and joy above all else in this, her ninth book. "While many of us understand effects of unhealthy relationships, we're often clueless about how to truly break free of them. Until we understand why people behave the way they do, and that we subconsciously teach others how to treat us, we're powerless to transform this important area of our lives," says Rainie, life coach, president/ CEO of Love Book Store LLC and host of The Rainie Howard Show podcast, which spotlights personal development, mental health issues and advice. "My book empowers readers with a growth mindset to become the architect of their own destiny." Rainie's prior books cover topics regarding discovering one's purpose, spiritual growth, being addicted to pain within toxic relationships, healing from heartbreaks, dealing with loneliness, strengthening relationships, finding one's soulmate and daily choices associated with marriage. What put Rainie on this current path? She shares that when she was 12 years old she was bullied by another girl

on a school bus. The seed of self-doubt took root and grew. However, over time, she cemented a relationship with God. "During 2001, I was a college student leading a faith-based campus ministry," she states. During 2008, she launched Sisters of Hope, a nonprofit to empower young girls dealing with the same low self-worth she once did. "That work expanded into serving women in the community, and I became a dedicated student of personal growth and mental wellness," she recalls. In 2026, she predicts the biggest obstacles to having fulfilling, authentic relationships with others is transparency and emotional connection: "With so much noise online, authentic relationships require presence, empathy and self-awareness, qualities that can’t thrive when we’re constantly 'on.' Real fulfillment comes from slowing down, creating intentional time for deep conversations, and prioritizing emotional honesty over image." Rainie recommends, "A powerful New Year’s resolution for self-image is to choose three actions you can control that would make you genuinely proud, and practice them daily. Start with a short journaling check-in and a few minutes of meditation to surface what you truly want. Then make one clear promise to yourself and keep it." She says her personal goals for 2026 are centered on expansion, alignment and impact. For those who want to work on themselves, and dive deeper, Rainie says the best place to start is by practicing The Love Habit, using the L.O.V.E. framework: Learn yourself; Optimize habits; Validate compassion; Experience life fully. R E A L R E S U LT S FOR REAL PEOPLE Rachel Johnson’s Vision Behind MEDI Weightloss And Commitment To Long-Term Health, Confidence, Community Impact ARTICLE BY KELLEY LAMM PHOTOGRAPHY BY JENNIFER MOSSMAN

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BRING MEDI WEIGHTLOSS TO CHESTERFIELD, AND WHAT MAKES THIS LOCATION FEEL PERSONAL?

"As a health care provider and longtime Chesterfield resident, I recognized a real gap between people’s desire for sustainable weight loss and the overwhelming number of generic, short-term solutions. People are tired of fad diets and quick fixes. They want medical guidance, compassion, accountability and a plan designed for real life. Bringing MEDI Weightloss to Missouri feels deeply personal because this community is home. It’s where my family lives, where my children go to school and where my career in anesthesia and wellness first took shape. I wanted to create a program that blends medical oversight with a warm, judgment-free environment, a place that gives people confidence to start, structure to stay committed and lifelong tools to maintain success."

MANY PEOPLE STRUGGLE WITH WEIGHT-LOSS PROGRAMS THAT DON’T LAST. HOW IS MEDI WEIGHTLOSS DIFFERENT, AND WHAT DOES “THE LAST PLACE YOU HAVE TO BE” TRULY MEAN?

"Most programs fail because they rely on restriction, willpower or trends instead of individualized care. MEDI Weightloss is medically supervised, data-driven and tailored to each patient through body composition analysis, nutrition counseling, evidence-based protocols and weekly provider support. In the age of GLP-1 medications, people are flooded with ads promising quick weight loss at bargain prices, often without proper medical oversight. At MEDI Weightloss, we prescribe GLP-1s when appropriate, but we never rely on medication alone. We pair it with comprehensive metabolic assessments, customized nutrition plans, accountability and weekly monitoring to protect lean muscle, support long-term metabolism and keep patients safe. GLP-1s can be a powerful tool, but only when used responsibly and in the right clinical context. Our goal is to help patients achieve results that last — not lose weight quickly and regain it later. 'The last place you have to be' means that once you walk through our doors, you finally have a long-term solution. We teach patients how to fuel their bodies, understand their biomarkers, build sustainable habits and maintain results with confidence."

When people feel good in their bodies, they show up differently in every part of their lives." MediWeightloss.com/Weight-Loss-Clinic/ChesterfieldMO

TREND FORWARD

Into 2026

As we step into 2026, style is taking a refreshing turn. The fast pace of trends is slowing, giving way to thoughtful, intentional choices, creating a new category of must-have products. Style is now an investment, not a race, with people prioritizing quality over quantity and selecting pieces and products that they truly find joy in. Local designers and boutique owners are leading this shift, offering limited products that are well curated. Buying from them means owning something unique, thoughtful and with care and intention. This mindful approach extends to beauty, where wellness and eco-conscious routines are more important than ever.

Simple swaps, such as natural makeup brushes or locally made hand creams, elevate daily rituals and consumer product awareness while also supporting small businesses. Accessories are evolving with purpose, too. Handbags, jewelry and other products are chosen not only for style, but also for their practicality and sustainability. In 2026, style is about updating closets with items that bring joy. It’s about creating a life that’s intentional, thoughtful and unique. Slow fashion, sustainable beauty and mindful shopping are no longer trends; they are now a lifestyle.

AUDRA HARROLD The Science of Scent

Scent is more than a finishing touch, as it is chemistry and memory at work. When one inhales a fragrance, odor molecules travel to the brain’s limbic system, the center for emotion and memory. This is why a single scent can instantly calm, energize or transport one to a specific moment. In 2026, people will be using fragrance as a tool for well-being: choosing fragrances that soothe stress, candles that support focus and home aromas that create harmony.

A BAG FOR THE BUSY WOMEN A handbag, weekender or backpack update with a bag designed for current busy lifestyles. Try Lux and Nyx.

AND PROVIDED

Across modern medicine, a shift is happening. More patients are demanding real explanations, and more clinicians are rethinking what “healthcare” should actually mean. Leading that shift is Dr. Kyle Gillett, a dual board-certified physician in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine and an expert in metabolic, hormonal, and preventive health. Through his clinic, research, and The Gillett Health Podcast, he’s become a trusted voice for people seeking science-based, rootcause solutions rather than symptom-based band-aids. “Functional medicine is really ‘root cause medicine,’” Dr. Gillett often says. “It’s about asking why the problem exists and not just quieting the noise.” In this Q&A, Dr. Gillett breaks down the most common questions he hears from patients and offers simple, actionable guidance anyone can begin using today.

AN INTERVIEW WITH DR. KYLE GILLETT

The New Frontier of Health

SHBG—which binds testosterone and estrogen—are completely missed. Beyond lab work, there are other factors: mitochondrial health, sleep quality, mental health, and even how sensitive your dopamine and serotonin receptors are. “Normal” labs do not always equal normal physiology for you.

“WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW, TODAY, TO START FEELING BETTER?”

Dr. Gillett: Focus on the pillars of health: diet, exercise, sleep, stress, sunlight, social connection, and spiritual health. Treat them like habits and find ways to make them enjoyable or easy to start. Supplements and medications are supportive tools, not substitutes. Think of them like turbo chargers: they enhance a system that’s already functioning.

A FINAL WORD FROM DR. GILLETT

“The goal isn’t to tell people what to do, rather it’s to give them the information they need to decide what’s best for themselves.” By understanding the why behind your symptoms, labs, and lifestyle choices, you become the driver, not the passenger, of your health journey.

It’s been said that “life is just a bowl of cherries,” and it just so happens that cherries might improve your life. This nutrient-dense, heart-healthy fruit may lower blood pressure and cholesterol, combat inflammation, help the body manage stress, speed recovery after exercise, balance your mood and help you sleep. To say it is a superfood may be an understatement. So it’s only fitting that we include a mocktail recipe with cherries as the star ingredient this month. Let’s drink to health, wellness and a wonderful year ahead! Cheers!

L eads Clay ton For war d Guiding Clayton Through Growth, Revitalization, Stronger Community Engagement For Decade Ahead

OVER THE YEARS, CLAYTON HAS GROWN AND EVOLVED IN REMARKABLE WAYS. WHAT DEVELOPMENTS OR COMMUNITY CHANGES ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF, AND WHAT FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES EXCITE YOU MOST?

"When my family first moved to Clayton, we immediately connected with the Center of Clayton, a truly innovative partnership between the city and the Clayton School District. It remains a vibrant hub where residents gather to exercise, meet and cheer on our students.

Mayor Bridget McAndrew

I’m also incredibly proud of how our downtown continues to transform. New residential buildings, beautiful office towers, reimagined park spaces and exciting entertainment options are shaping a more dynamic city center. Looking forward, I’m hopeful we can move ahead with converting the former ice rink site into a flexible event and gathering space. Throughout our comprehensive planning process, 'Clayton Tomorrow 2040,' residents expressed a strong desire for initiatives that bring people together. I want us to continue activating our downtown streets and building a true live/work/play ecosystem that enriches the lives of residents, visitors and business employees alike."

COMMUNITY CONNECTION IS ESSENTIAL TO EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP. HOW DO YOU PLAN TO STAY ENGAGED WITH RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS OWNERS, AND WHAT DOES ACTIVE LISTENING LOOK LIKE IN CLAYTON?

"Community connection is something we’re always working to strengthen. While we’ve improved our social media presence and expanded email communication, we know how valuable our printed City Views newsletter and informal gatherings are for residents. I truly miss those one-on-one moments, so I hope to reintroduce office hours or “Coffee with the Mayor” soon, continuing a tradition I loved as a Ward 3 councilmember.

“Our greatest strengths remain our committed and thoughtful residents, city staff and our business community that keeps our city thriving.” I make it a priority to be present at community events, including the recent tornado town hall, and encourage everyone to sign up for our Friday update, which shares news, events, council items and opportunities for input. Our EngageClayton.com platform, created during the comprehensive plan process, remains active and is used to gather community feedback, most recently for the Wydown restoration efforts. We also stay closely connected with the school district, regularly coordinating communications to better share information that serves both our families and our community."

LOOKING AHEAD, WHAT'S YOUR HOPE FOR CLAYTON OVER THE NEXT DECADE, AND WHAT LEGACY WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEAVE AS MAYOR OF THE CITY YOU'VE PROUDLY CALLED HOME?

"Over the next decade, I hope Clayton continues to thrive with beautiful, connected neighborhoods that feel safe and welcoming. I want our business community to remain strong and supported, and for the city to stay financially resilient, despite the challenges facing municipalities across our region. Locally, I envision more activated and adaptable public spaces, especially within our parks, and safer pedestrian and bike connectivity throughout the city. Regionally, I hope we deepen our partnerships, because Clayton is one part of a larger community that benefits greatly from collaboration and shared purpose. Ultimately, I hope my legacy reflects a city that grew stronger, more connected and more inclusive; a place where people felt proud to live, work and build their future."

ADV IC E EDI TOR IAL : 2026 C OLOR OF TH E YE AR E X PR E S SE S LUXU R Y The 2026 Color of the Year, transformative teal, truly excites me as an interior designer. I’ve already been able to incorporate this hue as a refreshing accent in many homes. The color embodies renewal, depth and modern elegance, a rich blend of blue and green that symbolizes balance, emotional clarity and a fresh start. Its versatility allows it to feel grounding or energizing, depending on how it’s used. In the home, transformative teal shines on accent walls, cabinetry and textiles such as drapery, bedding and throw pillows. It pairs beautifully with warm neutrals, brushed brass, soft woods and creamy tones, creating serene yet upscale living rooms, bedrooms and entryways. Kitchens, bathrooms and bar areas especially benefit from its jewel-like quality when combined with clean white tile or stone, such as marble or quartzite. Beyond interiors, this shade is striking in handbags, coats, journals, phone cases and even nail color, adding quiet luxury to everyday style. Transformative teal inspires expressive beauty.
