Take time to enjoy all the small moments with family instead of getting caught up in all the daily tasks that can steal our attention away—to be truly present when spending time with our family instead of dividing our attention with our technology or to-do list. Although we usually aren’t perfect at accomplishing these things, it is worthwhile to strive for it everyday. March is our Home and Design issue. Creating a home that you want to spend all of your time in isn’t easy. The memories that are made within the walls of our home are what lasts regardless if our home has the latest trends or if it hasn’t been updated in years. While it is fun to look at beautiful homes and dream about renovations, we all know that the love we share in our homes is truly what matters most. Clayton Announces New Parks And Recreation Director Toni Siering became Clayton’s new director of parks and recreation. She replaces Patty DeForrest, who retired in December 2021 after more than two decades with the city. Toni received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri—St. Louis. Swim spas and hot tubs have been at a peak of interests since COVID-19, with people investing in their family time and bonding, says Paul, by turning off cellphones, computers and TVs. SPRING INTO LUSH LAWNS EYE-CATCHING, PRISTINE SYNTHETIC TURFS ARE FOR MORE THAN GOLF COURSES Come spring, customers of Xtreme Green Synthetic Turf get to leave muddy shoe and dog prints outside their doors, without even having to first catch kids and dogs to wipe them off. "Spring months are tough times for pet-related conditions. We're coming off of melting snow, and then straight into showers of April and May. We keep very busy replacing backyard and side yards with our Softlawn synthetic turf, helping homeowners keep the inside of their

Alan says they excavate 4 inches of dirt and then create a customized, permeable rock/ sand drainage layer, similar to how French drains work. With the environmentally friendly synthetic turf then placed over the area, he says 2 or 3 inches of snow melts visibly quicker than if it were left on the ground. "Also, in a 2-inch downpour of rain, our turf typically dries within an hour," he adds. Popular dog behaviorist Cesar Millan endorses artificial grass, Alan notes, even having it installed at his dog psychology center. Cesar is widely known for his television series Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, which was broadcast in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Alan says the company started in 1997 by constructing state-of-the-art artificial putting turfs. "We now build safer, more durable playgrounds for parks and children daycares, pet turf at homes, doggie daycare facilities and dog parks for apartment complexes. And we install top-ofthe-line turf for indoor sports facilities. Anything you want to do with artificial turf, we can do," he proudly states. They even construct turf areas on roof tops. More specifically, Xtreme teams take care of batting cages, athletic training applications, driving ranges, putting greens, hitting mats, playgrounds and other recreational areas. "We also provide traction areas around swimming pools and hot tubs," says Alan. During the pandemic period with more homeowners updating their amenities, Alan says they constructed a significant number of synthetic turf bocce ball courts and putting greens. Some customers indicate online that they turn to turf for economic reasons. "Replacing natural grass with artificial grass can reduce your water usage by more than 80% each year, and you'll also save on energy bills," says Alan. Vincent and Theo by Deborah Heiligman If you’re an art enthusiast, or maybe just a big fan of the recent Beyond Van Gogh immersive exhibit in St. Louis, you will love diving further into Van Gogh’s life story. Told by actual letters translated between Vincent and his brother, Theo, this book tells the story of Vincent’s life of successes and tragedies. Vincent’s brother had so much to do with his art career, and the two shared a unique relationship captured by hundreds of letters. It’s an easy and addicting read.

Rocket Men by Robert Kurson I found this book to be such an inspiring page-turner. Detailing the first mission to the moon ever made by humans, the story of Apollo 8 is captivating -- even if science and space aren’t your typical favorite topics. We often remember the stories of Apollo 11, the first walk on the moon and Apollo 13, the famously aborted mission, but Apollo 8 is just as riveting. Man’s first journey to the moon is one you will love.
