LIFESTYLE LETTER

Cheers To A New Year Cheers to a New Year, and stories to inspire you as January arrives with a certain kind of magic, and the feeling of a fresh start. It’s the month where we flip the calendar, take a deep breath and imagine the version of ourselves we want to step into. A new year brings excitement, hope and opportunity, but if we’re honest, it can also bring pressure. Resolutions, expectations, the feeling that we need to start big. This year, we’re choosing something different. We’re choosing consistency over intensity, progress over perfection and joy over pressure. As publishers and partners in business and in life, we’ve learned that real transformation doesn’t come from sweeping changes, but from small, steady habits that support your physical, emotional and mental well-being. You don’t need a complete overhaul to grow. You just need to take the next right steps as often as possible. A choice we've made is to begin clearing out items in our home filled with toxic ingredients and replacing with plant-based items. Our Red Light Sauna we purchased is the most exciting new year item in our home, using it 20 minutes a day to help with inflammation and so much more! And that’s exactly what our January Health and Wellness edition is all about. Inside this edition, you’ll find stories that inspire both calm and motivation. And, as always, our mission is to highlight local businesses, local people and local stories that uplift our community. As you step into 2026, remember this: It’s not the giant leaps that change your life; it’s the daily steps you take with intention. Join the class. Try the new thing. Book the appointment. Rest when you need to. Celebrate as often as possible. And make space for the small joys that make life feel full. Here’s to a healthy, balanced and joyful new year. We’re cheering for you, and we’re honored to share this beautiful city with you. Happy New Year,

S H A R E D C R A F T, D I S T I N C T V O I C E S : THE CHEFS BEHIND THE BASSO EXPERIENCE

Chef Frans Dinkelmann Basso Cheshire

Executive Chef Dan Sammons, Basso Westport

When director of restaurants Blaise Pastoret speaks of Basso, he speaks of legacy — one built on intention and a return to culinary roots. The original Basso, nestled inside the historic Cheshire, opened in 2012 with a vision Blaise describes as “the first elevated gastro-pub experience in St. Louis, modern Italian cuisine expressed through familiar forms.” Wood-fired pizzas, handrolled pastas, antipasti, fish, pork and refined interpretations of classics shaped the restaurant's early foundation. It became known for craftsmanship and reliance on housemade elements, such as ketchup, aioli, marrow butter, yeasted potato rolls and ingredients sourced from “local purveyors who take pride in their work, including Amish growers whose produce guides our seasonal changes,” Blaise explains. Entering the Cheshire location feels like discovering a secret. Guests descend a green terrazzo spiral staircase into a dining room warmed by flickering gas lamps and soft music. The woodfired pizza oven glows at the center, a hearth around which the room orbits. It is here that Chef Frans Dinkelmann has spent the

last year shaping Basso’s story through his own lens of creativity and mentorship. “I was born in South Africa and raised in Chicago,” Frans shares. “I’ve always leaned toward the creative: art, music, anything expressive.” Cooking eventually became his most natural medium. “When I discovered the vast array of ingredients and techniques in the kitchen, I recognized endless opportunities to create.” With decades of experience, Frans grounds his leadership in a principle learned under Chef Christopher Pope in New Mexico. “He taught me that running a successful kitchen starts with surrounding yourself with the best people possible. Learn what each person is good at and put them where they can thrive.” For Frans, meaning lies in the fleeting nature of the craft. “Food is ephemeral, hours of preparation, minutes of enjoyment, but the happiness it brings people is the most rewarding part.” He hopes to honor Basso’s legacy while “contributing to the excellence built by the great chefs who came before me.” CONTINUED >

Basso On The Plaza

Across the city, Basso Westport, which debuted in May 2025, presents a contrasting architectural personality, airy and expansive. A dramatic wood façade opens into a dining room framed by floorto-ceiling wraparound windows. Daylight floods the space before evening reveals the signature Basso glow: gas lanterns, a fireplace and communal farmhouse tables alongside intimate booths. At its helm is Executive Chef Dan Sammons, whose 22-year career includes leadership roles at Basso at The Cheshire, 360 Rooftop Bar and multiple Be Polite Hospitality concepts. “Returning to lead the new Basso at Westport Plaza has been invigorating,” Dan says. “Innovation and quality continue to drive me, and the larger kitchen here allows for an expanded menu while staying true to the soul of Basso.” Through both chefs, Blaise’s guiding philosophy remains constant: simplicity as luxury. “Pizza dough should have three or four

ingredients, pasta two or three,” he notes. “When you rely on so little, every ingredient must be exceptional.” Seasonal shifts, stone fruits and root vegetables in cooler months, vibrant summer produce in warmer ones, anchor the menu in authenticity. Two chefs, two kitchens, one enduring approach: modern Italian craftsmanship rooted in place, seasonality and the elegance of restraint.

FEATURED SPEAKER: Mary Engelbreit

Brian Day, sales manager for Dave Sinclair Lincoln St. Peters, located at 4760 North Service Road since 2003, says it's time to watch for the dealership's incentives for both purchases and leases. The dealership offers new and preowned Lincoln models for the Navigator, Nautilus, Corsair and Aviator. Regarding the new Lincoln Navigator, Brian says a popular feature is its split hatch/tailgate. The Navigator went through multiple redesigns, introducing features such as an extended "L" version, an independent rear suspension for better comfort and later replacing the V8 with a twin-turbo V6 engine. The fifth-generation Navigator carries over the same twinturbo V6 engine as before, but has a fresh, sharper exterior and an all-new interior, along with standard four-wheel drive. "Another big selling point is its 48-inch, panoramic display that integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment system. And, of course, the Navigator's fully fresh look catches lots of attention and interest," explains Brian. CONTINUED >

What started in a converted linen closet became an international creative empire. With her unmistakable style and unstoppable determination, Mary Engelbreit transformed illustration into a global business that continues to delight millions. The 2025 Lincoln Navigator has a revised front fascia with a redesigned grille and LED lighting, and a "flight theme" for the rear with wing-like tail lights. Its performance remains powered by a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine, however, the interior also features advanced technology, such as new interior themes, digital scent cartridge and BlueCruise 1.4, a driver-assist technology from Ford that allows for hands-free driving on prequalified highways called "Blue Zones." The wheels were updated, too, with standard 22-inch wheels on the Reserve model and optional larger wheels. Truly reimagined design from the ground up, Brian says the Navigator provides a noticeably quiet, comfortable ride. One of the region's largest automotive dealerships offers an "Only in America" backstory for the past 59 years and counting. Dave Sinclair Ford opened in January 1966 on South Kingshighway Boulevard, and moved to South Lindbergh in South St. Louis County during March 1972. Since the dealership's first year in 1966, it's been the largest Ford dealership in St. Louis, and shortly thereafter, became the largest dealership of any kind in the St. Louis area. Brian says Dave Sr. set the example of having his office on the showroom floor, with nobody screening his calls. "We took that approach with us to every dealership. All Sinclair family members running a dealership sit on the showroom floor. We believe this is a big reason we've always had an A+ rating with the BBB. We're very easy to get in touch with, and we solve any issues quickly." As a former police officer, Dave Sr. started selling cars part-time during 1958. By April 1993, Dave Sinclair Buick GMC opened, on the opposite end of the "car row" that the Ford dealership was on in South County. By the end of 1993, it was the largest Buick dealership in Missouri, and in the top 40 in the country. Dave Sr. passed on during September 2009, after a short battle with cancer, however, his way of doing business didn't change and is carried on within the third generation of Sinclairs now working full time in the operation at various locations. Also in time for the new year, Brian says their team offers a full line of maintenance services and repairs, including collision restoration. He says Dave Sinclair Lincoln St. Peters has an exclusive warranty forever program that provides all their customers with protection for the life of their vehicles.

WHY CHOOSE HAIR REPLACEMENT?

"Patients seeking hair restoration aren’t looking to feel younger, they want to reclaim their identities. They look in mirrors and see an entirely unrecognizable person. We help restore 'who' patients were before hair loss, so they feel like themselves again. Surgical hair restoration is natural, less invasive and more convenient. And we're always working toward new treatments."

HOW DO YOU ADDRESS PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACTS OF HAIR LOSS?

"After 11 years of doing patient consultations, I’ve become 'tuned in' to areas of life affected by hair loss. While treatment can truly transform someone both inside and out, it’s not a miracle cure for relationships or work problems. Hair restoration can provide more self-confidence that may enable patients to better deal with other challenges. However, realities need to be clearly and honestly explained to patients before

“Surgical hair restoration is natural, less invasive and more convenient. And we’re always working toward new treatments.” undergoing treatment. I may be the first doctor they've admitted these problems to, and I may help by just listening or referring to specialists who can help further."

YOU WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN MODIFIED FOLLICULAR UNIT TRANSPLANTATION TECHNIQUE. HOW DO LATEST METHODS HELP WITH DEPENDABLE, POSITIVE RESULTS?

"Hair science is fascinating, and hair loss presents unique, challenging problems. I’ve always tried to be innovative and to create better solutions. Integrating new ideas, while still utilizing proven methods, creates best patient outcomes. It’s also important to collaborate with colleagues to turn new ideas and methods into better and better results."

WHAT'S COVERED IN PATIENT CONSULTATIONS?

"Whatever patients need. Some come with thorough knowledge of what we do and how it might work for them; others come with no formal diagnosis and little knowledge about today’s hair restoration options. Every patient undergoes a thorough medical, surgical and hair loss history, with good scalp evaluation/diagnosis, but anything goes after that! Some patients ask a few questions and book a procedure; others gather information to consider. It's all OK."

DO HAIR TRANSPLANTS LAST A LIFETIME?

"Yes! Hair transplants are permanent if done properly on the right patient. The hair we use as donor comes from an area of scalp that's highly resistant or immune to falling out. When we transplant it to the bald or thinning areas, it retains this immunity and stays permanently."

Part of that mission is a focus on wellness: six dimensions of wellness that include physical, spiritual, emotional, social, environment and intellectual aspects. “Each activity at EverTrue Breeze Park targets a wellness category,” Tammy says. “So, the residents can focus on spiritual wellness by attending the Bible study or a lecture, while also benefiting from social wellness because they're sharing with other people.” For the focus of physical wellness, “Many of our residents exercise at least five times a week,” says Jes Gustafson, director of community wellness. Jes oversees the gym and pool, teaches exercise classes and facilitates one-onone sessions with the residents. “They're very engaged in keeping their bodies moving. They exercise more than I do.” EverTrue Breeze Park is a community of the EverTrue organization, which has operated in Missouri,

Illinois and Pennsylvania for 166 years. The Weldon Spring location opened April 15, 1996. EverTrue Breeze Park has a walking path, a concierge, transportation, housekeeping and laundry services. There is an on-site movie theater, swimming pool, library, game rooms and multiple dining options and culinary programs. There's even a resident-led wine club, and residents are able to use community spaces for private parties. Living accommodations include spacious, multiroom residences and private patio homes. “You have a distinct lifestyle, filled with dreams, passions and goals. At EverTrue Breeze Park, we understand this and support it,” Tammy says. EverTrue Breeze Park residents are encouraged to try new skills and perfect old talents through arts and crafts, workshops and classes, cultural events and exhibitions. These types of activities have been shown to release feel-good hormones, increase self-worth and provide social connections. Residents also can enjoy lifestyle enrichment activities, including shopping and day trips, lunches and dinners, mystery trips and multi-day excursions. “We went to Yellowstone recently. We also took a float trip down the Meramec River. We're taking a trip to the Mediterranean next fall,” Tammy says. “Residents actually pick the trips themselves. This will be intellectual, because we’re going to look at the antiquities, but also social, because we're going as a group. This January, we have a group going to the Western Caribbean.” She says that trip is for all residents, “no matter what physical limitations,” with qualified nursing attendants for residents who have medical needs. EverTrue Breeze Park also offers classes in its memory support care. “The classes bring our residents together so they use more of their brain versus just word finding or cognitive problem solving,” says Tammy. “It also helps with engagement and socializing, offering some fun.” Jen says local school kids often visit residents. “It's an intergenerational program, so they may be doing a craft where they're socializing with the kids as well as learning something new. It's anywhere from kindergarten to high school kids.” A group of high school boys come in to play pool and volleyball with residents, she says. “We have one

resident who will try to show them up by doing a cannonball into the pool. I'm not kidding you. We have some amazing independent residents who really live life to the fullest.” “We can always find something new for our residents to try or something that'll make them laugh,” Jen says. “We actually have kids of residents who are on our wait list to move in, because they see how much their parents love it.” Tammy says team members at EverTrue Breeze Park are dedicated and caring. “Many of our management and long-term employees have been here for 30-plus years. My co-workers are like family. The residents are like family.” Every level of care has its own resident and family member council as well, Tammy says. “They have a say of what they want to do. For instance, our independent living got on a kick to educate the other residents on a Mediterranean diet.” EverTrue Breeze Park has a horticulture program where residents do flower arranging or gardening. “In our memory support care, we have a wall of fake flowers that residents can take back to their rooms,” said Tammy. “It’s been a popular addition.” Tammy says EverTrue Breeze Park also incorporates proven technology to encourage cognitive and emotional well-being. The facility has a Tovertafel table that interacts with human touch, so residents can move images and play games with each other. Musicians come to play and sing for residents. Though real pets are allowed, EverTrue Breeze Park also uses battery-operated dementia-care pets, like dogs, cats and birds for memory support residents. “If you pet them, certain trigger points will have them move, meow or bark or scratch their bellies. They're so cute and very lifelike. We're an animal-friendly community.” There is a chaplain on staff as well as a music therapist, and speakers visit regularly. “If there's something our residents are interested in, we'll try and find someone who knows about it,” Tammy explains. Staffers and residents alike have taught subjects such as sign language, dance, painting and woodworking. “We have a lot of amazing, talented people,” Tammy says. “To be a part of a community like EverTrue Breeze Park, is to be surrounded by talent.”

New Year New Leadership Mayor Dan Hurt Brings Passion And A New Bold to Chapter To Chesterfield

Chesterfield has been your home for many years. What made you fall in love with this community when you first arrived and what still inspires you about it today?

"Chesterfield has been my home for nearly 50 years. I’ve had the pleasure of watching our city grow, innovate and overcome challenges. Chesterfield isn't just where I live, it's where I've invested my expertise and efforts. It’s where my wife and I have raised our two children in the Parkway School District, I coached at the local YMCA, served on boards and owned businesses."

You have a diverse and accomplished background. Which experiences in your career or personal life have most shaped the leader you are now as mayor?

"My professional background is in planning and engineering, which helped enable me to have a vision for what Chesterfield can

ARTICLE BY KELLEY LAMM be in 10-20 years in the future. I know how to define a problem and establish the physical and financial infrastructure to find the solution. At the founding of Chesterfield in 1988, I was appointed to the first board of adjustment commission, and I've remained involved with the city ever since, whether on city council or now as mayor. A commitment to serving the community is a value my family has always instilled in me."

What do you see as Chesterfield’s greatest strengths, the qualities that make it such a special place to live, work and raise a family?

"Chesterfield is rooted in strong neighborhoods, responsive services and an actively engaged community. With some of the top school districts in the state, it continues to be one of the best places to start and raise a family. Our location between the

Missouri and Mississippi River valleys positions us as a major contributor in the agricultural industry, with 90 percent of all U.S. grain imports moving through this corridor. Many leading companies in this sector also call Chesterfield home. I recognize the importance of cultivating community alongside these industry leaders and remain committed to preserving our small-town atmosphere within our tree-lined neighborhoods. Chesterfield’s bikable and walkable plan is now nearing completion, and once finished, residents will be able to start in Central Park and run or bike a full marathon throughout the city."

As someone who has watched Chesterfield grow and evolve for decades, what changes make you most proud, and what opportunities excite you for the future?

"Our commitment is to creating a community where entertainment, commercial growth and shared values come together every day. One project I’m especially excited about is the $2 billion downtown revitalization planned for the former Chesterfield Mall site. While the development is privately led, the city is shaping

The plan includes one million square feet of office space, 600,000 square feet of retail and roughly 2,400 housing units centered around public park space. It's designed to be a true live/work/play destination."

When you’re not focusing on city leadership, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any personal traditions, favorite spots in Chesterfield or hobbies people may not know about?

"I'm the head martial arts instructor for judo at the local YMCA and have also taught taekwondo. I've been practicing those disciplines since my young adulthood."

What's your hope for Chesterfield over the next decade, and what legacy would you love to leave as mayor of this city you’ve called home for more than 40-plus years?

"I would love to be remembered as a dedicated public servant, and not a politician."

R E A L R E S U LT S FOR REAL PEOPLE Rachel Johnson’s Vision Behind MEDI Weightloss And Commitment To Long-Term Health, Confidence, Community Impact ARTICLE BY KELLEY LAMM PHOTOGRAPHY BY JENNIFER MOSSMAN

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BRING MEDI WEIGHTLOSS TO CHESTERFIELD, AND WHAT MAKES THIS LOCATION FEEL PERSONAL?

"As a health care provider and longtime Chesterfield resident, I recognized a real gap between people’s desire for sustainable weight loss and the overwhelming number of generic, short-term solutions. People are tired of fad diets and quick fixes. They want medical guidance, compassion, accountability and a plan designed for real life. Bringing MEDI Weightloss to Missouri feels deeply personal because this community is home. It’s where my family lives, where my children go to school and where my career in anesthesia and wellness first took shape. I wanted to create a program that blends medical oversight with a warm, judgment-free environment, a place that gives people confidence to start, structure to stay committed and lifelong tools to maintain success."

MANY PEOPLE STRUGGLE WITH WEIGHT-LOSS PROGRAMS THAT DON’T LAST. HOW IS MEDI WEIGHTLOSS DIFFERENT, AND WHAT DOES “THE LAST PLACE YOU HAVE TO BE” TRULY MEAN?

"Most programs fail because they rely on restriction, willpower or trends instead of individualized care. MEDI Weightloss is medically supervised, data-driven and tailored to each patient through body composition analysis, nutrition counseling, evidence-based protocols and weekly provider support. In the age of GLP-1 medications, people are flooded with ads promising quick weight loss at bargain prices, often

38

EXP E RT H E LP | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

without proper medical oversight. At MEDI Weightloss, we prescribe GLP-1s when appropriate, but we never rely on medication alone. We pair it with comprehensive metabolic assessments, customized nutrition plans, accountability and weekly monitoring to protect lean muscle, support long-term metabolism and keep patients safe. GLP-1s can be a powerful tool, but only when used responsibly and in the right clinical context. Our goal is to help patients achieve results that last — not lose weight quickly and regain it later. 'The last place you have to be' means that once you walk through our doors, you finally have a long-term solution. We teach patients how to fuel their bodies, understand their biomarkers, build sustainable habits and maintain results with confidence."

AS YOU PREPARE TO OPEN MORE LOCATIONS, WHAT'S YOUR VISION FOR HELPING OUR COMMUNITY LIVE HEALTHIER, MORE CONFIDENT LIVES?

"My vision is to expand MEDI Weightloss across the St. Louis region while maintaining the relationship-based care that defines us. Each clinic will serve as a supportive wellness hub, offering medical weight management, nutrition education, body composition testing, IV therapy and ongoing guidance. By addressing health at its foundation, we can reduce chronic disease, improve energy and confidence, and help people experience wellness as a lifestyle rather than a struggle. When people feel good in their bodies, they show up differently in every part of their lives." MediWeightloss.com/Weight-Loss-Clinic/ ChesterfieldMO

ADV IC E EDI TOR IAL : 2026 C OLOR OF TH E YE AR E X PR E S SE S LUXU R Y The 2026 Color of the Year, transformative teal, truly excites me as an interior designer. I’ve already been able to incorporate this hue as a refreshing accent in many homes. The color embodies renewal, depth and modern elegance, a rich blend of blue and green that symbolizes balance, emotional clarity and a fresh start. Its versatility allows it to feel grounding or energizing, depending on how it’s used. In the home, transformative teal shines on accent walls, cabinetry and textiles such as drapery, bedding and throw pillows. It pairs beautifully with warm neutrals, brushed brass, soft woods and creamy tones, creating serene yet upscale living rooms, bedrooms and entryways. Kitchens, bathrooms and bar areas especially benefit from its jewel-like quality when combined with clean white tile or stone, such as marble or quartzite. Beyond interiors, this shade is striking in handbags, coats, journals, phone cases and even nail color, adding quiet luxury to everyday style. Transformative teal inspires expressive beauty.

U N D E R S TA N D I N G T H E “WHY” BEHIND WELLNESS ARTICLE BY ANGELA BROOCKERD PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES AND PROVIDED

The New Frontier of Health AN INTERVIEW WITH DR. KYLE GILLETT

Why do so many people feel exhausted, foggy, or unwell, even when their medical tests insist everything is “fine”? Why are we prescribed quick fixes instead of being given real answers? Across modern medicine, a shift is happening. More patients are demanding real explanations, and more clinicians are rethinking what “healthcare” should actually mean. Leading that shift is Dr. Kyle Gillett, a dual board-certified physician in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine and an expert in metabolic, hormonal, and preventive health. Through his clinic, research, and The Gillett Health Podcast, he’s become a trusted voice for people seeking science-based, root-cause solutions rather than symptom-based band-aids. “Functional medicine is really ‘root cause medicine,’” Dr. Gillett often says. “It’s about asking why the problem exists and not just quieting the noise.” In this Q&A, Dr. Gillett breaks down the most common questions he hears from patients and offers simple, actionable guidance anyone can begin using today.

1. “WHY DO I FEEL AWFUL EVEN THOUGH MY LABS ARE ‘NORMAL’?”

Dr. Gillett: I like to say, “There is no such thing as ‘we’ve done everything.’” We can always dig deeper. Often, the labs ordered

44

M UST SE E | W EL L NES S

are the wrong type of assay, or important markers like ferritin or SHBG—which binds testosterone and estrogen—are completely missed. Beyond lab work, there are other factors: mitochondrial health, sleep quality, mental health, and even how sensitive your dopamine and serotonin receptors are. “Normal” labs do not always equal normal physiology for you. JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/C HE ST E R F I E L D

45

2. “HOW DO I FIX MY ENERGY, BRAIN FOG, OR SLEEP WITHOUT 20 MEDICATIONS?”

Dr. Gillett: Start with a good, comprehensive lab panel to assess nutrients and hormones. Then build the foundation with sleep. My favorite tool is the 10/3/2/1/0 rule: • 10 hours before bed: No caffeine • 3 hours: Avoid large meals and alcohol • 2 hours: No vigorous exercise • 1 hour: No bright blue or white light • 0: No snoozing and no inconsistent sleep/wake times Aim for 7+ hours of high-quality sleep. When sleep improves, energy almost always follows.

3. “IS MY GUT ACTUALLY CAUSING ALL THESE OTHER PROBLEMS?”

Dr. Gillett: Gut health influences most major health issues, but it’s rarely the only problem. Diet is my second pillar of health for a

46

M UST SE E | W EL L NES S

reason. Exercise, sleep, and stress reduction all improve gut function too. Even simple tools like self-hypnotherapy apps can reduce gut-related symptoms.

4. “WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW, TODAY, TO START FEELING BETTER?”

Dr. Gillett: Focus on the pillars of health: diet, exercise, sleep, stress, sunlight, social connection, and spiritual health. Treat them like habits and find ways to make them enjoyable or easy to start. Supplements and medications are supportive tools, not substitutes. Think of them like turbo chargers: they enhance a system that’s already functioning.

5. “WHAT DOES FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE ACTUALLY DO DIFFERENTLY?”

Dr. Gillett: True functional medicine is root-cause medicine, not cookie-cutter supplement regimens. Imagine an older adult with

cognitive symptoms who receives multiple prescriptions from a conventional doctor. A functional approach might uncover something entirely different: B12 deficiency, hearing loss, and vision impairment. Fix those, and cognition often improves dramatically with no medications required.

6. “WHEN SHOULD SOMEONE TEST THEIR HORMONES, AND WHICH TESTS MATTER MOST?”

Dr. Gillett: Most adults should get a baseline hormone panel between ages 18 and 28, or earlier if they have symptoms like poor sleep, unexplained fatigue, or changes in heart rate. A proper panel includes testosterone, estradiol, fasting insulin, CMP, lipids (including Lp(a)), A1C, morning cortisol, IGF-1, DHEA-S, vitamin D, and ferritin. These markers catch metabolic and hormonal issues long before symptoms become severe.

7. “WHAT LONG-TERM TESTS ACTUALLY HELP PREVENT DISEASE, NOT JUST DIAGNOSE IT?”

Dr. Gillett: Preventive care is evolving rapidly. For heart health, I recommend Coronary Artery CT Angiography (CCTA) because it detects soft plaque that calcium scores miss. Knowing this data early informs you what is needed to prevent a heart attack. Instead of asking your doctor “Do I need cholesterol medication?” ask “Do I have plaque in my arteries?”. Full-body MRIs can be useful too, but they often find harmless abnormalities, which can lead to unnecessary stress or testing. Always weigh the pros and cons with a clinician who understands your goals.

A FINAL WORD FROM DR. GILLETT

“The goal isn’t to tell people what to do, rather it’s to give them the information they need to decide what’s best for themselves.” By understanding the why behind your symptoms, labs, and lifestyle choices, you become the driver, not the passenger, of your health journey.
