CHESTERFIELD LIFESTYLE GETS THE SKINNY FROM CHESTERFIELD SALONS REGARDING HAIR TO DARE LOOKS

DOMINIC MICHAEL SALON

H o l i d ay Hair Styles

636.449.1583 | DMSALON.COM Dominic Bertani, DMS owner, says they’ve sought to provide the highest quality salon services since opening in 1982. Clients rave online about their team’s professionalism and friendliness. Citing two sizzling hair styles for the holidays, DMS stylists believe high ponytails and curly lobs will be popular. “We can give your hair the volume and products you need to pull off these looks,” Dominic adds. “With ponytails, you can wear them straight, wave them up or curl them.” A front hair bump also can be added for a classy touch. Dominic says curly lobs show off the authentic textures of a person’s mane and can be shaped into stunning looks.

BELLE GENTE SALON 636.536.2002 | BELLAGENTESALON.COM Allyson Martin, manager/stylist, Bella Gente Salon + Clothing Boutique says two coloring aspects are very popular. “Many clients with blonde hair are converting to more caramel shades. And the second trend is deepening the hair and roots, as in moving from blonde to chocolate brown,” she adds. Curtain bangs are huge right now, Allyson shares. “More women are leaving their hair length longer, and instead are adding layers,” she says. Made famous during the 1960s to 1970s by actresses, such as Brigette Bardot, Goldie Hawn and Farrah Fawcett, curtain bangs are parted down the middle, or sometimes slightly to the left or right, and swept to each side, so they perfectly frame the face and eyes, much like a curtain does with a window. A big request from young clients, says Allyson, is incorporating vibrant or rainbow colors into natural hair colors -- likely being made popular by 18-yearold entertainer JoJo Siwa. JoJo tours to provide perfomances in various cities, and has 12.3 million subscribers on YouTube. Among her branded apparel product line, more than 80 million hair bows have sold. She says she’s worn a rainbow on the top of her head almost every day of her life.

18|8 FINE MEN’S SALONS 636.778.2700 / CHESTERFIELD 314.755.1988 / CREVE COEUR EIGHTEENEIGHT.COM Men’s holiday hairstyles are including more lightening highlights, says Joe Bryan, owner of 18|8 Fine Men’s Salons in Chesterfield and Creve Coeur. Men seem to be embracing the use of color and highlights to give their style a unique signature. Highlights can be very subtle or bolder. Highlights can give a haircut texture, and can help brighten a face and bring out one’s eyes. Joe says his salon team has been noticing the end of the “COVID-related growing long hair” trend. “Men are trading their man buns or shoulder-length ponytails for going back to fade cuts of some sort,” he adds. The so-called ‘soccer cut’ is popular, in which men have some length and a long top, but hair doesn’t touch shirt collars. Joe says high taper fade cuts are desirable because the hair is shorter or shaved above the midpoint between the top of the ear and the round of the head, and fades evenly into the length on top. He says some men are getting low fades in which the hair is shaved below the midpoint between the top of the ear and the round of the head and still fades evenly into the length on top. “We aren’t seeing many changes in product needs -- still very little shine desired, but some firm molding clay or messy hair textured paste helps complete these styles,” says Joe.

CULINARY CREATIONS

bringing back the smörgåsbord ARTICLE BY MEL BOBAN

CHARCUTERIE IS A WIDESPREAD TREND THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, BUT THE SMÖRGÅSBORD IS A UNIQUE ITERATION OF SERVING MEALS AT A PARTY THAT CAN BE USED TO REALLY ELEVATE CELEBRATIONS. Originally debuted in 1939 at the New York World’s Fair exhibition, this iconic Scandinavian meal presentation is a great way to inspire holiday meals. Scandinavia and Sweden, in particular, have a special place in my heart, with my grandma’s relatives immigrating from Småland, Sweden and having studied abroad there in college. I had the amazing experience firsthand of the way their gatherings focus on heartfelt connection. The center of a Swedish holiday celebration is often the smörgåsbord, plum full of goodies. What exactly makes a smörgåsbord? It stretches further than America's charcuterie boards -- incorporating hot and cold dishes in a buffet-style setup. It’s a giant grazing table for guests to snack from throughout the evening, sparking conversation and encouraging mingling. Think about a charcuterie board-initiated next level, stretching across the entire table. When incorporating a smörgåsbord style serving setup, take color into mind. I like to think of the dishes as decor themselves -- adding greenery or berries for pops of red and green. Fruits, such as oranges, pears, cranberries or even apple slices, make for beautiful coloring as well as holiday candy, cinnamon stocks and pine cones. Decorative napkins and serve ware also can be displayed with small decor items, such as evergreen sprigs, bells, ornaments and festive glassware. Smörgåsbords give everyone a chance to be creative and to impress guests. Cheers!

LOCAL’S CHOICE

Holman Home For The Holidays LOOKING FOR THE HOLIDAY GIFT OF A LIFETIME? LET’S TALK LUXURY!

Motorcars St. Louis, formerly known as St. Louis Motorcars, is located just a stone’s throw off of Highway 40 in Chesterfield. You might recognize it as you pass by from afar, but the magnitude of what happens inside is impressive. With sales nearing $100 million annually, Holman holds a solid book of repeat and new clientele looking for the best of the best in luxury and exotics. Newly known as Holman Motorcars since March of 2020, most of the same staff members remain and have decades of experience in this business - they’re passionate about helping you build your dream car - even if it has to arrive via international freight in a special, bolted crate. Holman has a sister location in Ft. Lauderdale, so their national footprint enables them to offer VIP experiences from coast-to-coast. Brian Lee Tull, Holman’s General Sales Manager, spends his day buzzing around their campus delivering top notch service to their clients - from coordinating bespoke customer orders and scheduling international deliveries in time for Christmas. Yet, when we managed to track him down he was calm, cool and collected in describing Holman and their values. Holman Motorcars prioritizes delivering an exceptional experience for their customers. This starts with the culture difference that can be felt – where people come first and feel 34

LOCAL’S CHOICE (CONTINUED) valued. Holman Motorcars is part of the Holman Automotive family with 40 dealerships spanning the country. What began in 1924 as a single Ford store, has grown into one of the premier automotive groups. Holman Automotive was just ranked the No. 2 dealership group in the 2021 Automotive Reputation Report. Yet it is a still family-owned business – with stateof-the art facilities and a reputation of exceptional service. Holman Motorcars offer new cars from six ultra-luxury lines, including Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Lotus and Rolls-Royce. They also have one of the finest collections of certified pre-owned vehicles as well as off-brands such as McLaren, Porsche and Ferrari. You can shop online, visit the showroom or you can start from scratch and create the car of your wildest dreams. “As Bentley says, there are a billion possible configurations”, Brian explains. What’s new in luxury? They have a new Snow Quartz Pearl Flying Spur that has to be seen to be appreciated just how beautiful a simply-white car can be as well as a Verde Aries STO (stands for "Super Trofeo Omologato") that might just be one of the coolest colors ever seen on a sports car. Brian says that their brands’ luxury SUVs including Bentayga, DBX, Urus and Cullinan are in the highest of demands, with many families looking for luxury and functionality combined. Lotus is teasing their own electric SUV codenamed the Type 132. Electric, to no surprise, is becoming more popular and many brands such as Bentley are offering hybrid options. Electrification is on the horizon, but even as automation revs up for many car brands, luxury remains handmade. The brands they offer are always created meticulously by expert designers and craftspeople, with the highest attention to detail in each stitch. In fact, Brian feels the quality is only getting better over time. Brian says that Sir Henry Royce's ethos was always to "take the best that exists and make it better and when it doesn't exist, design it." In a true holiday spirit, Holman is unique to luxury car sales in their efforts to give back (to the tune of more than $3 million annually). Their employees, who are treated with the same utmost respect as their clientele, continually donate to United Way St. Louis, giving back to the community directly around

them. Holman has donated more than $1 million to the United Way nationally each year for the past five years. Holman employees are supported with paid time off to volunteer, banking over a thousand hours of time giving back. Holman Motorcars recently hosted a Lamborghini x Movember event in spirited competition with 90 other Lamborghini dealers worldwide as part of a global activation. Local Lamborghini owners decked their cars with mustaches and helped raise awareness and funds for men’s health, suicide prevention, and cancer. Lamborghini St. Louis ranked No. 13 out of 90 Lamborghini dealerships worldwide. What’s happening the week we interviewed Brian? A special delivery for a client on the Nice List - a $4 million 2022 Bugatti Pur Sport. One of 60 for the world. These special hypercars are flown in from the factory (Bugatti is in Molsheim, France) and arrive in large wooden crates, waiting to be revealed. It’s an exciting day when one arrives! Earlier this year, the dealership received a delivery of two Lamborghini Sian hyper-cars at the same time, rare gems of only 63 made in the world. We can’t wait to hear more about the orders placed for the holidays…are you adding any of these to your Santa list, too?

GIVING BACK

Gratefully

ARTICLE ALLISON GIBESON PHOTOGRAPHY JANIE JONES

GIVING AWAY AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN LAST YEAR, LIFESTYLE PUBLICATIONS IS GIVING $300,000 TO RECIPIENTS IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON AND BEYOND... AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

ABOUT SIX YEARS AGO ANNA SAROL, THE DAUGHTER OF A SINGLE MOTHER, WAS PARALYZED IN A GYMNASTICS ACCIDENT WHEN SHE WAS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT UNTIL LAST YEAR SHE DID NOT HAVE A STAIRLIFT IN HER HOME. The stairlift was made possible when Lifestyle Publications gave her family $10,000. Anna Sarol

“I watched my community come together to help me get this equipment to my house, and words can’t explain how appreciative my family and I are,” Anna says. The money for Anna’s stairlift was part of a giveaway campaign from the company during the 2020 Christmas season that benefited more than 80 recipients across the country with a final distribution of $250,000 throughout the year. When the company opened nominations, they were flooded with submissions. Community leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you nominated people that were in need of assistance. As the eyes and ears of the community, these readers were able to help identify people who might have otherwise gone unnoticed or unrecognized. One such nominee was Kathy*, an aunt who is raising her three young relatives. The children came from an abusive situation, and Kathy, a single guardian, works tirelessly to provide for them. Nevertheless, the family was already living in poverty despite her working seven days a week when Kathy lost her job during the pandemic. She resorted to selling tamales to help pay the rent.

48

Chesterfield Lifestyle | December 2021

When a case manager with a Big Brothers Big Sisters foster youth mentoring program heard about Lifestyle’s campaign and call for nominations, she quickly thought of Kathy. “When I shared the news that Kathy was selected and would be receiving $3,000, she cried, screamed, and was in disbelief,” the case manager said. “She immediately wanted to give back to me and the donor by providing endless tamales. This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors.”

GIVING BACK (CONTINUED)

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GIVE AWAY $3OO,OOO This year the company will have nominations for the giveaway open from December 1-15, 2021. To submit a nomination, follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram and fill out the form found in the bio link. The amount given to each recipient will be based on need. The leaders of Lifestyle Publications believe God has blessed them with their company’s continued success, so they in turn wish to be a blessing and encouragement to others as they increase the amount of this year’s giveaway to those in need to $300,000 for the year.

In yet another case, Emily* who worked as a janitor at a school, was a recipient and was struggling to afford simply buying groceries for her children. Before the ongoing difficulties of the pandemic even started, a tornado destroyed the school she worked at just a couple weeks before the initial shutdown in March 2020 which resulted in a loss of income for her. Emily was incredibly surprised and grateful to receive assistance from the giveaway. *Names changed for privacy 50
