Our June issue makes my heart sing. We’re celebrating local creators, innovators and makers in our community who are making the world a little bit better (and brighter!) through their artistry, imagination and boldness. And let me tell you, these people are my jam. It never ceases to amaze me how you can take an idea that forms in your head, play with it and then go off and create it. Sometimes you can hold that idea in your hand (jewelry) or look at it on the wall (art), walk through it (architecture), taste it (food) or wear it (clothing). Does it get any cooler than that? Have you ever heard the saying by Theodore Levitt, “Creativity is thinking up new things. Innovation is doing new things”? Great creators are what keep this town humming. Whether that’s a building, skincare product, landscape, drink, condiment or stunning accessory, we’re spotlighting people who are dreaming things up and making them happen. We hope the pages to come help unlock your own personal creativity. Stay curious,

Greenwood Village-based Tiffany Bausch Weld has crafted jewelry since before she can recall. “I don’t remember a time that I wasn’t stringing things together,” she says. Since Tiffany was a child, her grandfather Fiore taught her to strand rocks and shells into jewelry. “By the time I got to college,” Tiffany says, “I was proficient in hemp necklaces.” Tiffany honors the earth and self-love with her online store Fiore Wylde, which she launched in March 2020 to sell her ceramic art, along with silver and gold rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings set with hand-chosen gems. Constructing jewelry with fine metals and stones that last a lifetime, Tiffany creates pieces that “brighten your face and shine your light,” she says. For 13 years, Tiffany designed and directed collections for various New York fashion houses like Banana Republic, Club Monaco, J. Crew and Ippolita, where she mentored under and worked with the Italian jewelry designer and artist. When she’s not making jewelry, Tiffany loves playing with mud in the ceramics studio and sells several ceramic hand sculptures on her website. “I love how each hand is crafted by my hands,” Tiffany says. “Hands are powerful makers and communicators.” They also hold things for us, which is why Tiffany has designed her ceramic hands to cup crystals or sit on an end table holding a selenite crystal clearing wand. With other jewelry companies using cheap, impure or plated metals that aren’t healthy for human skin or the planet, Tiffany recommends saving money for a meaningful piece, one that’s good for the environment, using real stones, and silver or gold. “I don’t just want to make gold-plated pieces like everyone else,” Tiffany says. “Our purpose is to stop the landfill trash of meaningless jewelry.”

Fitting with one of Fiore Wylde’s mission statements to promote craftsmanship, Tiffany works to create a welcoming industry for other jewelry entrepreneurs, especially since some industry participants can be guarded about where they manufacture and supply their pieces from. Tiffany says the trade’s secrecy is almost ancient, dating back to when sapphire miners kept deposit locations hushhush in order to hide their inventory from others. Because of this gatekeeping, it’s possible that at a gem show a buyer might unknowingly purchase a fake or chemical-processed stone. To help combat this confidentiality, Tiffany has built a team of trustworthy partners to create a transparent process. She works with a reputable couture production house in New York City for her custom pieces. For the Fiore Wylde line, she produces jewelry with women-owned manufacturers based in Thailand and Bali who share the same mission of integrity. They use recycled, traceable gold and silver, know the mines their stones come from and the journey their materials take to market. “These choices to make jewelry in a healthy, ethical environment absolutely impact the quality,” Tiffany says, “and most importantly, give the customer the power to support better practices.” FioreWylde.com

A Vision of Connection

“We want to expand on the great elements that already exist in Cherry Creek while also enhancing the area and offering something new.”
For Amy Cara, managing partner at East West Partners in Denver, there is a bit of a disconnect between the Cherry Creek neighborhood and its namesake waterway. However, while this tangible link may be lacking today, she notes that there is a vision underway to forge this connection in the near future. “We have a great opportunity to connect Cherry Creek back to the community and the community back to Cherry Creek,” Amy says. “This is the fundamental idea behind the creation of Cherry Creek West.” The development of the 13 acres of parking lot and single-story retail buildings to the southwest of the Cherry Creek Shopping Center is an idea that’s long been considered. Today, as the result of a collaborative process between East West Partners, the Buell Foundation and Taubman, concrete steps forward are being taken to transform the site into a
future nucleus of living, working, playing and relaxation. “Cherry Creek is already a fantastic neighborhood,” says Amy. “We want to expand on the great elements that already exist in Cherry Creek while also enhancing the area and offering something new.” Amy notes that a core goal of Cherry Creek West is to help Cherry Creek become a 15-minute city, one in which people can do all of the things that they need and want to within just a short 15-minute walk or bike ride. The development will achieve this not only by better connecting the neighborhood to the creek, trail system and larger Denver area, but also through the combination of uses that will actually make up the community. Cherry Creek West is slated to facilitate a diversity of uses to make it an energetic hub for residents, professionals, outdoor enthusiasts, foodies, shoppers, travelers and guests. The community is set to

include multi-story residential dwellings, retail shops, restaurants, public outdoor areas and community gathering spaces for both events and everyday leisure. Another key component is its planned office buildings and workspaces with larger footprints, which Amy notes will help contribute to more diversity in the types and sizes of businesses in the area. Across the scope of the development, Amy notes that sustainability will also play a crucial role. “Sustainability is a core value of East West Partners and of the Cherry Creek neighborhood,” says Amy. “We are looking at this development with a thoughtful, long-term lens. We have the opportunity to make strategic choices that showcase Cherry Creek West’s commitment to being better to the planet.”
Along with the buildings themselves, this eco-focus will also play out through the collection and cleaning of storm water, reducing heat island effects and an overall focus on the integration of the outdoors. This is all set to contribute to an inimitably welcoming space for residents and visitors, whether it’s their home base for their day-to-day, a destination for shopping or entertainment or a gateway to the neighboring community. “This idea of connection is so meaningful to this project,” says Amy. “And I really believe that it’s going to come to life in Cherry Creek West.” Planning for the development of Cherry Creek West remains underway. Founded in 2019 as an online chocolate store, Cioccolatier opened a storefront at 300 Josephine St. in December of 2021 in addition to a factory in Castle Rock. Cioccolatier’s mission is to pair the world’s best chocolate with the American Dream, Brazilian cocoa and Italian inspiration. Owner Silvia Valentoni and Chief Marketing Officer Ronald Peach were born in Brazil but now call Castle Rock home. As an homage to Silvia’s family from Italy, she named the store after the Italian word for “chocolatier.” “Although Denver has a rich gastronomic scene, we found that a real luxury, white-glove chocolate store was missing,” Ronald says. “Also, we have a passion for the cocoa farms that produce extraordinary chocolates in the Amazonian and Atlantic forests of Brazil. And Silvia is a tremendous chef, so she wanted to put her talent into something new, where she could apply all her techniques and creativity.” Ronald and Silvia are trained chocolatiers from Brazil, but Ronald says Silvia is a better one because she was an oral surgeon for 30 years and has an “exceptional ability with her hands. She applies all the techniques of painting in tiny spaces to make some chocolates a work of art.” At Cioccolatier, guests will find delicately painted pralines, chocolates filled with a variety of flavors, marzipan and so much more. But they will only find customer-approved, decadent chocolate made from the best beans. Ronald says when they develop a new recipe, samples are provided to customers and their neighbors in Castle Rock. Only flavors with four- or five-star ratings make it to production. “We take meticulous care of every part of the production, from the selection of the nibs to the final product. We don't add chemicals, artificial flavors or fats, and all fruits are natural and fresh,” Ronald says. “The way we sell it, with love and care, brings our customers to the cocoa farm environment.”

Jojo’s Sriracha also pays careful attention to ingredients so consumers can enjoy sriracha alongside a healthy lifestyle, something CEO and founder Jojo Collins sought before founding Jojo’s in 2012. “I started making sriracha when I did a cleanse in yoga teacher training and took refined sugar out of my diet. That’s when I realized the squeeze bottle sriracha that I used on everything is full of refined sugar, salt and a host of preservatives,” she says. “I had never made hot sauce or fermented before, but I was determined to make a sriracha that had simple, real ingredients.” The process to make Jojo’s Sriracha starts with fresh chile peppers grown right here in Pueblo. After adding garlic, sea salt and palm sugar, the fermentation process begins. When Jojo deems it’s complete, she adds raw, organic apple cider vinegar, blends it all up, heats it and then jars it. Jojo says the process can take as little as a week or much longer—the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Sriracha takes six months to a year and a half. Some of Jojo’s flavors are made from only red or green chiles, like the OG and GR, and others are blended together to make a mix of both red and green sriracha, like the Unicorn Blend. As a self-proclaimed foodie who's obsessed with flavors, Jojo is constantly experimenting with new offerings, so be sure to check her website regularly. But her work doesn’t stop there. “I’m also inspired by the journey that it has been to create a product and bring it to market. I’ve learned so much about myself and business that I never knew before,” Jojo says. “I love learning and I get to do that every day.”

MILLY As Far as Cocktail Bars Go, Room for Milly Is the Bee’s Knees

H OT SP OT | FOOD + BEV E RAGE
If you don’t yet know Milly, you’re going to want to. Room for Milly is based on the real-life Milly Parker, who lived from the tail end of the nineteenth century to the twilight of the twentieth. She was vivacious and bold, always up for good food and drink and even better conversation. She was adventurous and worldly, having traveled to more continents than most women at the time could dream of. She loved a good party, with people from different walks of life, and she was just as likely to chase travel and education as any man. It was that boundary-pushing Milly who inspired Room for Milly, the stunning cocktail bar on Platte Street that’s short on pretension and long on design. “As I thought about the space, I thought about strong women through history,” says owner Fiona Arnold. “We’re a woman-owned company, and one of the things we think about is ensuring our spaces are designed to be inclusive for women. I think the more women, the more people of color, the more diverse groups engaged in business development and ownership, the more inclusive spaces we’ll see.”

Milly Parker would be right at home at the whimsical bar, which is a kaleidoscope of colors, patterns and textures. The Lindsay Cowles-designed wallpaper will first capture your attention, but pick your jaw up off the floor because there’s something interesting to see in every corner. From the terrazzo flooring to the tiled bar to the thrifted and commissioned art (most of which was created by women), it’s a medley of creativity that comes together to create a truly memorable and special bar. “It’s a space that doesn’t take itself too seriously,” Arnold says. “I heard someone say that it is like being in your eccentric aunt’s place in New York City.” To match Milly’s sophisticated tastes, the cocktails had to be worthy of their globetrotting muse. Food and beverage director Emily McKenna and bar manager Kyle Fanfoni oversee a menu of salon cocktails that will take you anywhere you want to go, from Paris to the tropics. Sip on the floral SS City of Paris Spritz, a delicate blend of vodka, grapefruit, rosewater and sparkling rosé, or go heavier with the Pen Women Daisy, a mix of cacao butter-washed vodka, oat milk, house-made vanilla crème soda and egg. Or go full-on vacation mode with the sultry Mururi Tiki, which mixes ginger, banana and lime juice with crème de cacao and cachaça. The Bites menu is small plates—think popcorn, deviled eggs and chilled prawns, with more items debuting soon in a relaunched menu. Even if you don't stop in hungry, you may linger so long over that pre-dinner drink, nightcap to end the evening or cocktails with friends at happy hour that you talk up an appetite. Room for Milly is a destination for its design and drinks, yes, but it’s really intended to be more of a backdrop for your own life and adventures. A place to dream, go deep, make plans and connect with new and old friends. Just the kind of haunt for an intriguing woman like Milly. 1615 Platte St., Denver; 720.630.7020; RoomForMilly.com
