Dear Reader,
I hope this letter finds you in high spirits and full of creative energy.

Today, I want to take a moment to celebrate and explore the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.
Style is deeply personal. And it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, our passions, and our desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, as it enables us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.
As individuals, we have the freedom to embrace established styles, blend them together, or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. We hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in our towns to uplift our spirits, boost your productivity and ignite your creativity.
What I’ve found is that the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And that’s something no one on earth can duplicate.
Remember, if you have interesting, fun, and meaningful stories to share or are a business looking to grow within our local communities and the surrounding areas, we would love to hear from you. Contact John.Meyer@citylifestyle.com for advertising opportunities and Ana.Meyer@citylifestyle.com for editorials or call us at 973-944-1440.
Here’s to being uniquely you!
We look forward to seeing you around town!

Your personal style is a reflection of your inner self, and it starts with self-confidence. A beautiful smile can be a powerful catalyst in boosting that confidence. Dr. Ashley Azizian of Chatham knows this all too well. Her journey into the world of dentistry,

Five years ago, Dr. Azizian partnered with Dr. Anthony Sallustio, a colleague she met during her prosthodontics residency at the Manhattan VA. “I treated a lot of veterans suffering from PTSD and anxiety,” Dr. Azizian shares. “I was the chief resident and invited Dr. Sallustio to lecture. A year after I graduated, we bumped into each other again, and he invited me to see his practice in Ocean Township. He then offered me a position to practice with him.”
In July, Dr. Azizian and Dr. Sallustio opened a second location in Madison.

Dr. Azizian, who has taught at NYU School of Dental Medicine and currently instructs dental residents at Morristown Medical Center, explains, “We believe in earning our patient’s trust by listening to their concerns, educating them, and offering options. Together, the patient and doctor agree on the treatment plan.”
Understanding that many patients experience anxiety, Dr. Azizian designed their second location in Madison with ample natural light and space to create a calming atmosphere. “Being able to help people feel and look better is the best feeling in the world,” she says.
The services offered at their practice are comprehensive, including restoring implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, and porcelain veneers. They have successfully treated hundreds of patients with the All-on-4® dental procedure, allowing for teeth replacement

Combining a wealth of knowledge and experience with innovative products

From a young age, Nisha Varma was drawn to how a space should feel. But, it wasn’t until she started working as a marketing manager at the New York Design Center in 2003 that she felt her true calling. She went on to attend NYU and became a certified interior designer.

“In today's world, people really need to feel connected and at peace when they're in their homes and offices.”
Today, her company, NV Luxe Interiors in Livingston, is in high demand. “I love that when I walk into a space, I can really transform it to make it functional while not compromising on luxury or a sophisticated overall look and feel,” says Nisha.
For the last two and a half years, Nisha has been working with the owner of a historic Short Hills home that was built by Stewart Hartshorn for his daughter, Cora, in 1890. Hartshorn is considered the founder of Short Hills and was also responsible for the construction of the train station.
Many changes have already taken place, with many more to come. “Nisha’s keen eye for detail ensured that every aspect - from the color scheme to the materials chosen - complemented the overall aesthetic of my space,” says the homeowner. “Her dedication to my vision is now a feature in my house that I enjoy daily.”
The homeowner wanted to keep everything bright and airy with a transitional design. “One of the things I appreciate most about Nisha is her commitment to understanding our personal style and preferences. She didn’t impose her own taste, but rather curated designs that reflected our personalities and aspirations for our living space.”
Nisha has used this transitional style in her own home in Livingston. Her kitchen was actually featured in Architectural Digest and won its Kitchen Design Award. “Designing a space goes beyond beauty, it’s about providing function, comfort and elegance that captures the spirit of the client and soul of the space.”
She’s also among one of the 18 interior designers in the country to be selected for the Thermador Design Council, which includes very experienced designers in the mid-to-high

General Plumbing Supply (GPS) is excited to announce the opening of a Kohler® Signature Store right here in Summit. The impressive main floor, with its 5000 square feet, is filled with everything needed for kitchen and baths.
“Kohler is one of our strongest relationships and vendors and we felt the Summit downtown district has really created this kind of haven for designers, design retailers and home furnishings stores,” says GPS president, Justin Freedman. “We’re excited to be part of that community.”
In addition to Kohler, its family of brands which include Kallista®, Robern®, and Ann Sacks®, will also be on display. Homeowners and designers, he says, will see every color and finish available from modern to traditional and everything in between for fixtures, countertops, tile, lighting and more. “It’s very much a one-stop shop.”
As in all of its stores and showrooms, GPS’s extremely knowledgeable staff understands not only the products being offered, but the often complicated, integrated plumbing systems too. Plus, new technologies are coming out all the time, and they stay on top of the market.
For example, Kohler has a newly rolled out showering system called Statement™ & Anthem™. It’s been very successful and popular both in traditional and digital, and can include personalized temperatures, water pressure and more. It really tailors the shower to fit user’s preferences.
When it comes to a primary bathroom, Justin says its “become a type of retreat for people over the last few years post COVID. It’s a place where they can go and hide and relax.”
There’s also a whole line of smart toilets in which to choose. With these innovative products, people can get as much or as little technology integrated into their solutions as they prefer.

“I
Another best seller is a new full line of bathroom, kitchen and lighting products from designer Shea McGee. “She has the right design appeal and really knocked it out of the park with her faucet and hardware designs,” says Justin. “There are many showering, bathing, vanities, lighting options, and even a tile offering from Ann Sacks.”
GPS’s vast inventory of products is very impressive. “We’re one of Kohler’s top distributors in the country and have in excess of 25 million dollars of Kohler inventory throughout our warehouse at all times,” he says. “The vast majority of our products can be shipped within the week if not the next day. That’s one of the great benefits of doing business with a locally-based company. There’s a fleet of 100 plus trucks crisscrossing the state on a daily basis.”
General Plumbing Supply, which has been in business since 1910, is a fourth-generation family-owned-and-operated company. There are a total of 24 locations including those in Orange, Morris Plains and Green Brook. In addition to the Summit location, Kohler Signature Stores can be found in Paramus, Eatontown, and Manhasset, Long Island.
“I believe this store is a nice addition to downtown Summit, which is one of the gleaming bright spots of design,” says Justin.

AN EVENT THAT JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER EVERY YEAR
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI | PHOTOGRAPHY BY VENTURE PHOTOGRAPHY

We were totally sold out. We had to turn people away.
On May 2, 2024, the 12th annual Red Carpet Party was held at Canoe Brook Country Club in Short Hills. According to Leslie Patrizio, a fashion event planner and owner of Style Matters who founded and has been coordinating this event since its inception, it was the best year ever.
All 225 tickets were sold and $150,000 was raised for Family and Children’s Services, Inc., a non-profit in Elizabeth that provides critical services such as mental health counseling, parenting classes, life skills and more.
The event included cocktails, dinner, a fashion show, a handbag raffle and a silent auction. While Leslie and her incredible committee of volunteers like to change things up each year to keep things fresh, they also make sure to maintain attendees’ favorites.
“We once again had Millburn firemen modeling, and this year their outfits were from Pour HoMMe in Chatham,” she says. “The firemen are always a crowd favorite. I have beautiful models on the runway modeling beautiful gowns, and the firemen always steal the show.”
The handbag raffle, a huge attraction every year, included 36 handbags from Coach®, YSL®, Kate Spade and other top designers. All are donated by local stores and local designers. “Committee members will also purchase a bag and donate it,” says Leslie. “Guests buy tickets, and put them in the handbags that they want to win, and at the end of the evening, we pull out the winning tickets. The women love the handbag raffle almost as much as they love the firemen.”
The silent auction is also always a big hit. “We had a jersey signed by Eli Manning from the New York Giants, a Phillies baseball bat signed by J. T. Realmuto,
and gift certificates for restaurants, shoes, a round of golf and lunch at Canoe Brook Country Club, and a Liberty Hall Museum tea. Chez Barbara also donated a cooking class for eight people.”
Each year, she tries to include a new designer or a new store because she loves to promote local businesses. The Blue Iris in Chatham was one of these. “Iris is the owner, and she has some really cool vintage pieces, as well as some new merchandise.”
Attendees were also excited to hear from the honorary chair, Dr. Kareem McKenzie, a New Jersey native and two-time New York Giants Super Bowl champion who also played for the New York Jets. After retirement, Kareem earned his Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and a Ph.D. in Counseling and Supervision in order to work with at-risk youth.
“The audience absolutely loved hearing Kareem’s speech. His message was clear and he was an amazing speaker!”
Leslie says the success of this event would not be possible without people like Kareem, her fantastic volunteer committee, local businesses, and the community that contribute and donate. “Frontline Insurance, owned by Nancy King’s husband, Willis, is our title sponsor. Nancy has worked with me on this event since the very beginning. She’s the former president of the board of Family and Children’s Services, and currently vice president and board member.”
Adds Nancy, “Family and Children’s Services works very hard to help the most vulnerable children in our society.”

HIGH-QUALITY SHIRTS THAT FIT IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES

For men with longer-than-average arms, finding a shirt that fits well can be very challenging. Tom Shaw of Mendham knows this frustration well.
“A few years ago, I was sitting down reading and journaling, and with my arm bent, my cuff was all the way down at my elbow,” he says. He knew other men were having the same issues and set out to find a solution. “I have some family members who are in fashion so I was able to tap into those resources. I was surrounded by expert designers who were able to provide advice.”
In 2021, Tom founded Broadyarns, which offers three different styles of high-caliber shirts – Button-down, Fleece and Henley – with sleeve lengths that are about two inches longer than most mass retailers.
“We’ve created something that fits the gap in shirts for the regular guy who’s not CONTINUED >
going into big and tall shops, and who desires a super high-quality shirt that they can put on and have it look and feel good.”
Every shirt is made in New York’s Garment District. “I want to keep control on quality and the people there are extraordinarily conscientious and care about their craft. Plus, our business is based in New Jersey, and the Garment District is in our backyard.”
The small-batch all-cotton shirts consist of organic and sustainable materials. “That has to do with our values, and after a bit of field testing the market, we realized there’s plenty of demand from people who care about the environment in the demographic that fits the Broadyarns customer,” he says. “Plus, being eco-conscious also means building a durable garment that will last for years to come. The result is less waste in the environment. Customers have literally said to me, ‘This is what quality feels like.’”
Many of the people ordering from his website are actually women. “They’re giving me the dimensions of their fiancés or their sons and they’re so happy to have finally found this type of product for them.”
Tom’s wife, Mari, is a huge asset to the business. “She’s amazing when it comes to fashion and she’s extraordinarily creative.”
He and Mari have a blended family of six children and two dogs, Bingo and Henry, and when not working, the family loves going backpacking. “We went to the Spanish Pyrenees last summer,” he says. “This year we’re going backpacking at Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the Grand Canyon.”
For Tom, Broadyarns is not just a business, but a passion. “We’re just getting started and we’re so excited.”
