were so amazing and inspiring, and such a joy.”

He is also thoroughly enjoying his newest entertainment-related interest—acting. After appearing on So You Think You Can Dance, Church signed with an acting agency and started the often-challenging process of auditioning for parts. “It was hard for me to get roles and it was especially hard being a young actor who hadn’t done anything. You have to hear one thousand ‘no’s’ before one ‘yes.’” His hard work and perseverance paid off last year, when he was chosen to play the role of Nicky in the Hallmark movie, The Christmas Waltz, starring Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp. The director and producer of the movie had seen him dance, and they thought he would be a great fit for the part, he says.

When Church is not busy with his dance lessons, both in-person and via Zoom, he enjoys practicing in his dance studio, which was once the home’s formal living room. He also likes hanging out with his friends and loves watching movies. In regards to his passion for dancing, acting, and entertaining, Church says he will definitely continue for as long as he can. “When I’m older I want to continue to be in the industry and maybe also get into choreography,” he says. As for other kids, and especially boys who want to get into dancing and acting, Church says they should definitely go for it. “You should follow your passions and dreams and not worry about it. If you love it as much as you thought, then

“I was so thankful I was chosen,” Church says, adding

LINDSEY STIRLING IS A VIOLINIST WHO HAS SHAKEN UP MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE WITH HER UNRIVALED COMBINATION OF PLAYING VIOLIN WHILE DANCING. Her dancing is as mesmerizing as her music. Stirling explains, “I always have creative visions for choreography… Like the style of dance, I imagine what the story is behind the movement, but I definitely work with choreographers to help bring it to life.”

She calls herself fortunate to work with talented choreographers Ashley Gonzales, Kyle Hanagami, and Jillian Meyers. Stirling threw herself into many endeavors during 2020. “I’m so lucky that I’ve been able to stay busy,” says Stirling, who currently resides in Los Angeles. “I finished writing my comic book; started a podcast; started the charity The Upside Fund in which I can give back to fans; and I worked for months planning, rehearsing, and editing a holiday special. I’ve also enjoyed spending more time with my family.” Drawing on her combination of musical and performance skills, Stirling is now a role model for young performers who are discovering their own talents. “I hope that I could help anyone find their voice regardless of if they want to tap dance, or spin batons,” she says. “I’ve definitely done something very unique and found my voice through it, and I want people to know they can write their story in their own way.”

Of Course! We all do. Let us keep yours the healthiest it can be! Medical Dermatology • Cosmetic Dermatology • Surgical Skin Care Treatment

Stirling has found her performance voice, and that voice continues to expand via her podcast, String Sessions with Lindsey Stirling. “I am doing it in little series,” she explains.

Self-Taught Pastry Chef at BKD's is Passionate about Baking and Desserts ARTICLE ALISON STANTON PHOTOGRAPHY LINDSAY BORG

ALIYA COAKLEY HAS FOND MEMORIES OF BEING SURROUNDED BY FOOD WHILE GROWING UP, THANKS IN LARGE PART TO HER DAD MARK, A PROFESSIONAL CHEF, WORKING HIS MAGIC IN THE KITCHEN. Coakley, now 23 and the pastry chef at BKD’s Backyard Joint, credits her dad for encouraging her to embrace a career in the culinary field. “My father has been a chef for the majority of my life, and is my biggest inspiration,” she says. Coakley’s favorite type of dessert to make is cheesecake; she enjoys featuring a different flavor each week at BKD’s (BKDsBackyard.com), including eggnog, pumpkin spice, and chocolate mousse. Devil’s food chocolate cake is also a fave, she says. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Coakley was happy to share a favorite recipe for Berry Tiramisu.

ALIYA COAKLEY CREATES AND FEATURES A DIFFERENT TYPE OF CHEESECAKE EACH WEEK AT BKD’S BACKYARD JOINT

Berry Tiramisu Serves 2-4

+ 1/3 cup berry jam (any kind) + 4 Tbsp. Grand Marnier + 2 Tbsp. orange juice + 8 oz. mascarpone cheese (room temperature) + 1/3 cup whipping cream + 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar + 1 tsp. vanilla + 16 lady fingers + 2 pints fresh blueberries Whisk the berry jam and Grand Marnier until smooth. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the whipping cream, confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. In a large bowl, mix the mascarpone cheese and orange juice until combined. Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture. In a shallow bread pan, lay half of the lady fingers on the bottom. Pour half of the berry mixture over them, followed by the mascarpone mixture. Sprinkle half of the fresh berries on top and then repeat the process one more time. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or until set. Before serving, dust with confectioners’ sugar and garnish with blueberries.

A Realtor’s job is to accurately determine how much your home is worth and then work to get you every last dollar when you sell it. Your Realtor gets paid a commission based on how much your home ends up selling for, which motivates them to get you top dollar. The important thing to understand with this commission, however, is that you are paying for a service (marketing, advertising, negotiating, etc.) that can help you maximize the final sale price on your home and give you more money in your pocket. The same cannot be said when you work with an IBuyer/Cash buyer, who will only care about the bottom line for their own profitability and will not be a reliable source of sound real estate advice. Oftentimes, they will make a low offer hoping it will be accepted without negotiating. One of the most misleading things about selling your home to a real estate investor

Our friend Marky Mark is a sucker for a good treat! His paws are crossed for this Valentines Day to be filled with lots of treats, kisses and hugs for everyone!

online is how they structure their fees and commissions. Many of these companies will advertise themselves as saving you money by avoiding Realtor commissions and other expenses while selling your home. In reality, many of these companies still charge some sort of commission or fee on the sale of your home at closing. No services are being provided for these costs, and you could end up leaving a lot of money on the table. While it may initially be tempting to get an instant cash offer during these socially distanced times, the reality is that selling with a Realtor can net you more money for your home and give you peace of mind throughout the process.
