've been thinking about how traveling evolves with you. When I was a kid, I have memories of going to Rocky Point with my family and camping on the beach. We'd look at the rings sold by the Mexican ladies and buy fresh shrimp from the fishermen and bean burritos from street vendors. Yum-o! In young adult life, traveling meant fun girls' trips to Vegas, visiting college friends who had moved away and edging further away from home with trips across the globe.

After getting married, my husband and I traveled almost monthly until we had our first daughter. Denver to see a concert in the Red Rocks one weekend. New York City for another. Chicago. Texas. Monterey and Carmel. It was a blast.

We have two young kids, so traveling has definitely slowed down. Once the girls are a little older, we plan to show them the world. While we love our Chandler bubble, traveling opens your eyes, makes you wiser and brings perspective. In the meantime, we'll stay closer to home and explore exciting spots nearby—and I'll use this issue as inspiration when planning our next adventure. For instance, did you know you can rent a camper at Schnepf Farms and go glamping? That sounds right up my alley as I've never been a true nature girl. Schnepf Farms has a site on their property decked out with seven themed campers, each with refrigeration, air conditioning and running water. It's the perfect blend of "roughing it" outdoors while maintaining the comforts of modernity. Or get in the car and drive two-and-a-half hours south to explore Sierra Vista. This quaint little town is making a name for itself with its historical buildings, upcoming foodie scene, breathtaking scenic trails and more than two dozen—yes, that's right— wine-tasting rooms within an hour from the heart of the city. And, of course, there's Rocky Point. Sometimes I still can't wrap my head around the thought that we can eat breakfast at home and by lunchtime we will be on the beach. Crazy, right? Locals love RP and it's only going to get bigger and better down there because in about two years, Rocky Point will open its first cruise ship terminal!

hen on vacation in Laguna Beach, California, you could check out the numerous art galleries in the quaint downtown. You could shop till you drop

in funky, upscale-meets-bohemian boutiques. You could try your hand at surfing in the gentle, albeit cold, waves. Or you could sit on your balcony at the Surf and Sand Resort and enjoy the vast ocean 50 feet in front of you while reading, napping or just chilling out. The smell of the salt water, sound of the waves and panoramic view of the endless blue horizon never gets old. But if you have kids in tow, they might force you to leave the room. Good thing Laguna Beach has many kid-friendly activities designed to wear them out so you can get back to that balcony view. The Surf and Sand Resort is one of the few hotels in Laguna with beachfront property sitting directly on 500 feet of perfect sandcastle-building sand. Grab a lounge chair and watch from under the shade of the umbrella as the kids enjoy the sun and sand Southern California is known for. With its ocean view, comfy cabanas and poolside bar service, the hotel pool is also a popular draw for families. At the north end of the beach, tide pools fill with fascinating creatures ripe for exploration. Right across the South Coast Highway from the Main Beach is Downtown Laguna Beach where you can cool off with a treat at Dolce Gelato or the kids can fill a basket with salt water taffy at Candy Baron. Even the faniciest restaurants have a casual atmosphere and most go the extra mile for picky eaters. For a healthy lunch try Nirvana Grille, where the kidâ€™s menu offers items like sustainable, gluten-free fish sticks and antibiotic and hormone-free chicken fingers. For a not-as-healthy-but-fun option, try a retro

Observe rescued sea lions and seals at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, take a mini workshop that mixes art with education at the Laguna Outreach for Community Arts or watch a kid-friendly play at the Laguna Playhouse. For a more adventurous afternoon, head to nearby Fisherman’s Cove. With some of the calmest waters in Laguna, it is an ideal starting point for a two-hour kayak tour. Families can explore the kelp forest, view marine life in the crystal clear waters and, if they are lucky, spot sea lions, dolphins and even whales. After a long day of fun in the sun, the S’mores and Snores treatment back at the hotel is a relaxing way to wind down the day. Kids are treated to handmade s’mores that they can make themselves in the fire pits on the lobby floor. The farm has offered a camping option for visitors with RVs, but this enclave is even separated from that spot, granting overnighters a tranquil escape amidst nature that comes with the creature comforts of city life. It’s an idyllic and fitting setting for the newest lodging craze to hit the travel industry, and this iconic Queen Creek gathering place. A fusion of “glorious” or “glamorous” (depending on who you ask) and “camping,” glamping offers the positive aspects of camping without the undesirable ones, which are replaced with running water in private bathrooms and kitchens, firm bedding and climate control. For couples or families with at least one person who craves bonding with nature but cringes at the thought of not showering for a couple of days, using questionable public restrooms or— gasp!—having to dig hole in the dirt a few times a day, glamping is a win-win scenario. At Schnepf Farms, seven campers manufactured between the 1940s-1970s have been tricked out and spruced up to provide amenities that far exceed what traditional campers are accustomed to seeing at home base. Carrie Schnepf, who owns the farm with her husband Mark and their four children, has taken on the job of coordinating the themes and décor. “One is shabby chic, one is rustic, one is Parisian and there’s one that’s retro,” Schnepf says excitedly on a warm August afternoon while shopping for window treatments and other touches for the Cozy Peach’s lodgings. She’s particularly excited about the purple wall that’s going up in the retro camper from the ‘60s. “I’m having fun re-doing them.” It promises to be a fun feature for Schnepf Farms, which draws more than a quarter of a million visitors each year and was designated in 2006 as an Arizona Treasure by former Gov. Janet Napolitano and the Arizona Office of Tourism. It also aims to be a sound business move with timing on their side. According to the Family Break Finder, a website specializing in economical deals for family vacations, one-third of holiday survey respondents specifically said they wanted to try glamping, which is considered to be a lower-cost holiday option than traditional hotels. The trend, which originated in Europe and made its way over the pond, has picked up in recent years. The resource Glamping.com was created specifically to serve this demand. And “glamping” wasn’t a word until 2006, but today several million searches are done each year on this word, according to the website. Considered the first hotel in Queen Creek, The Cozy Peach’s guests can order room service from the café, hit the Queen Creek Olive Mill across the street and decompress after festivals. Schnepf envisions the spot as being a place for folks to lay their heads when attending any Southeast Valley event. It also allows those who have trepidations about camping to dip their toes into the idea without having to fully dive in. “If you’ve wanted to camp but you’re not so adventurous, this is the way to do it,” Schnepf says. Minimalism HOW TO CREATE A FALL CAPSULE WARDROBE

ne of the newest trends to hit Pinterest is the capsule wardrobe. If you search it, you'll see

loads of color palettes and dozens of themes—it can get overwhelming! I'm here to break down this trend and help you build your own capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe places every piece in your wardrobe front and center. When you can see it, you will wear it. Have you ever found clothes in the back of your closet with the tags still on? While that "Yay! New clothes (again)! " feeling is nice, I guarantee you've bought three more things in the meantime just like it. That's what we do. We have the things we like and we don't deviate from them; instead, we keep buying more. And more. And. More. A capsule wardrobe does a few things for you: It saves you time and money and it makes you look put together every time you leave your house. Don't we all want that? Here's an example of a small capsule wardrobe. As you can see, each item coordinates with at least three other pieces. So, how do you do this? First, you need to make a list or create a plan for your wardrobe. This includes your color palette. A good basic formula is two neutrals and four coordinat-

ing colors. Second, you need to take everything (yes, everything) out of your closet. Third, go "shopping" in your current pieces to see what you have, but be judgmental (think Tim Gunn) toward each item. If it's worn, pilling, has holes or has lost its shape, toss it aside. Fourth, evaluate what’s missing in your capsule and go shopping to complete the wardrobe. When you're shopping, put each item through the "1-2-3" rule: 1) I am only going to have one of these in my closet so if I buy this piece, one piece in my existing wardrobe needs to go. (This only applies if you have already completed your wardrobe.) 2) Does this match both my coloring AND my style? 3) Does this piece coordinate with at least three other items in my wardrobe? Many women are currently moving toward this minimalistic approach to their wardrobe to simplify their lives.
