LIFESTYLE LETTER

To Health and Wellness for 2026 As the calendar flips to a fresh page, there’s a distinct energy in the air—the feeling of a new beginning. With the arrival of January 2026, the Chamblee City Lifestyle Magazine team is thrilled to dedicate this issue to a theme that is essential for harnessing that New Year momentum: Health and Wellness. This isn't just about fleeting resolutions; it's about building sustainable, whole-person practices in our vibrant Chamblee community. We recognize that true well-being is a complex tapestry woven from physical, mental, and environmental threads, and our goal this month is to illuminate local resources dedicated to help you weave your strongest, healthiest self. This month’s features introduce you to practitioners and a local venue that can help you on your individual quest to be healthy. We delve into the world of integrative and functional medicine with a look at the newly established Gaia Family Medicine. Their holistic approach treats the person, not just the symptoms, offering a deeper understanding of individual health needs. Similarly, we profile Evolutionary Wellness, a practice where functional medicine insights seamlessly merge with the structural benefits of chiropractic care. Wellness, however, isn’t something that only happens in clinics or treatment rooms – it lives in our relationships, our routines, and the choices we make every day. That’s why we’re excited to introduce The Living Room at our local, independently owned wellness and health food market, Nuts ‘n Berries Neighborhood Market. This new space is designed to become a cozy community hub for wellness workshops, yoga classes, and other uplifting health-centered events – reminding us that caring for our bodies often begins with caring for our connections. The transition into a new year is the perfect time to audit your life and consider where you can invest more intentionally in your well-being. Whether you’re seeking root-cause answers for chronic issues, looking for ways to move your body better, or simply hoping to connect with like-minded neighbors over coffee, the people and places featured in this issue are here to guide you. We hope these pages serve not just as an introduction, but as a practical blueprint for making 2026 your healthiest, most vibrant year yet. As always, we are grateful to bring the best that Chamblee has to offer to your homes every month. Here's to a year of health, happiness, and well-being!

to connect with your body and enter a parasympathetic state, and mind-body fitness classes. Restorative yoga, intuitive flow, Pilates, and alignment-based strength training are all on the menu. “The goal is to teach people that you have control over your own energy and you can calm that energy with very simple techniques,” Mari explains. “The more that we can teach people that, the better off everybody in the world is going to be.” The most popular offering is on Wednesday nights - a master class on breathwork and sound healing. Deep breathing can activate and move energy, while sound healing cultivates blissful calmness. Monday nights it's guided visualizations, which includes transportive meditations that teach participants to reactivate their imaginations (a vital tool amidst technological advances). Welcome to The Living Room at Nuts 'n Berries.

We all experience stress, from managing our daily lives and familial obligations to the broader environmental stressors that surround us. Creating a toolbox for self-regulation is crucial to finding your center, regardless of the outer circumstances. Mari Geier, co-owner of Nuts ‘n Berries, taps into her past as a personal trainer to bring in the best holistic teachers of their respective fields, creating a space for communal connectivity and spiritual centering. The Living Room Wellness Lounge serves the community, not only with classes, but also with educational workshops and events. The space’s emanation is inspired by one of Mari’s friends, who is a phenomenal shaman and Reiki master. Mari realized the Brookhaven/Chamblee area lacked the energetically infused spiritual offerings that she loves. The available classes are broad in scope yet aligned in mission. Offerings include manifestation visualization meditation to bring your dreams to reality, breathing techniques

available, from full moon ceremonies focused on integrating a sense of reset alongside shifting seasons to Nervous System 101 led by a local chiropractor and personal trainer. Many of these teachers have added value to Mari’s life on her own healing journey, and she’s intent on gathering the best of the best and granting access to them for her Nuts ‘n Berries community. These teachers often have their own businesses, and the Living Room Wellness Lounge is an extension of their already impactful platforms. Mari, pivoting from personal training, found taking on a Nuts 'n Berries branch to be an empowering form of service. The store offers non-GMO and dyefree food products. A proponent of local and regenerative foods, Mari continuously cultivates relationships with farmers leading by the same mission. Her partnerships with local farms provide affordable and ethical wares such as regenerative organic ground beef. Farm-provided raw milk, beef, chicken, and eggs connect the city community to foods that support a thriving microbiome. Supplements are also available to fill the gaps when food isn’t enough - a symptom of our current food system is soil that no longer provides certain vitamins and minerals. Mari’s number one suggestion for supplementation is magnesium. Even while eating an organic diet, we are not able to absorb the magnesium we need from the soil. Nuts ‘n Berries offers a multi-magnesium product from BIOptimizers. With seven forms of magnesium present, it addresses muscle aches, sleep, recovery, and your overall mental state. “If there’s one thing people took, it would be magnesium,” Mari says. “If there were two things, I would say a multi-mushroom and magnesium.” Multimushroom products strengthen the immune system to a highly impactful degree, much more so than

the more commonly used echinacea, and it’s a great addition to your regimen at the start of the year. Nuts ‘n Berries proclaims, “true health is possible,” and Mari takes that mission seriously, dedicating herself to staying abreast of the executive orders, laws, and historical factors that impact our food system. She's intent on providing the cleanest, most nutritionally-dense food to customers through continual education and conversations with the organic and regenerative community. Nuts ‘n Berries sources products from over 159 local vendors, makers, and farmers. Unlike big corporate stores, Nuts ‘n Berries can quickly pivot and bring in offerings that best support the health of the communities they serve. To support Nuts ‘n Berries and their health movement, buy your groceries here and the team will continue to provide the fairest prices. Ultimately, Mari works tirelessly to create hope in the world for her young daughter. “When you shop with us, you’re not just buying food—you’re helping shape the kind of world our kids will inherit," she says. "I want our community to feel that power every time they walk through our doors.”

EXP E RT H E LP | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

Living a life predicated on true health requires consistency and thoroughness. Alignment isn’t just for our spines: it impacts every aspect of our well-being, not only from a physical standpoint, but a neurological one as well. Bethany Provencial DC discovered the inherent benefits of chiropractic care at age 14. After suffering with an unknown illness for several months (and an exploratory surgery already scheduled), she visited a multi-hyphenate chiropractor whose work brought about her full recovery. This life-changing experience led Dr. Bethany to pursue a life dedicated to healthcare.

“It’s beautiful that most people are searching for connection, understanding, and loving, meaningful relationships, even if they are deeply hurt.” CONTINUED >

Today Dr. Bethany's chiropractic and functional medicine practice, Evolutionary Wellness, addresses the interconnectedness of nervous system regulation and overall health. Her specified training includes Quantum Neuro-Reset Therapy (QNRT) and NeuroEmotional Technique (NET). These modalities enhance her ability to awaken the “triad of health” for her patients, which directly addresses structural health (on a skeletal level), chemical health (with avenues for detox), and emotional well-being (promoting nervous system regulation).

20

EXP E RT H E LP | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

QNRT utilizes a cranial nerve exam by tracking eye movements to assess brain lobe imbalances. With a pin light, touch sensation exercises, sounds, and colors, different parts of the brain are activated to reveal which side of the brain isn’t communicating well. It has greatly served her patients suffering from PTSD, ADD/ADHD, personality disorders, autism, and chronic diseases. Our brains control all our bodily functions, and by creating a neuro-adaptive shift, we can recover from “adverse emotional experiences.” NET corrects physical imbalances to address emotional stress responses. It's

not counseling, but works to correct spinal misalignments, thus creating homeostasis. Dr. Bethany is passionate about both modalities and the progress she has witnessed in her patients who experience these offerings. Chronic health issues often stem from unresolved stress, and her work strives to make the body less habitable for such adverse experiences to occur and propagate. Dr. Bethany finds her work to be a perfect fit for “anyone with a spine,” and she especially finds satisfaction working with those suffering from autoimmune

diseases, as it harkens back to her childhood experience. Her approach is beyond back pain, as much of our emotional trauma and self-limiting beliefs are stored in our bodies, and by finding spinal and neurological release, our emotional life can increase tenfold. QNRT and NET provide clearing of such issues as they work directly with the brain. It’s also endlessly beneficial to reach out to healthcare professionals for healthy coping mechanisms and non-biased, third-party analysis of neural responses and bodily patterns. January is the prime time to focus on healthy living while recovering from holiday-induced stressors. Familial obligations, seasonal treats, and overall indulgence can make it more difficult to calm our nervous systems and find balance. Dr. Bethany says something as simple as a walk outside can calm our nervous systems while balancing cortisol levels. It’s also vital to grant ourselves grace, fully process all emotions, and celebrate small daily wins. A flood starts with a trickle, and every moment we make a healthy choice can lead to lifelong habits. Starting the year off on a good footing begins with implementing daily rituals that promote consistent self-care. Find

something that brings you joy, perhaps your morning cup of matcha or coffee, and really hold space to be present for that act. Put away screens, sit in a comfortable spot, and take the time to savor the moment. By tending to ourselves with this type of nurturance, past wounds slowly soften, and we can start the day as our best selves. When we’re taken care of on this base level, we show up better in all our relationships, and our energetic capacity is increased. This ritual doesn’t need to be overly long or complicated; frankly, the simpler the better, with a focus on full-body, present-moment awareness. If you’re looking to enhance your health rituals this year, Dr. Bethany sees massive benefits from regular spinal adjustments, which promote nervous system regulation while addressing current health concerns. Our past traumas, physical and emotional, do not have to overtake our daily experiences. In Dr. Bethany’s words, “It’s beautiful that most people are searching for connection, understanding, and loving, meaningful relationships, even if they are deeply hurt.” Check in, ask for help, and stay endlessly curious about making your health better with Dr. Bethany at Evolutionary Wellness.

MEET THE HOMETOWN FAMILY PRACTICE THAT’S TAKING CARE OF THE COMMUNITY

From a young age, both Shaanta Hanagud MD, and Lynda Kelly DSS, knew they wanted to be in the medical field. Dr. Shaanta says she knew she wanted to be a doctor from the time she was 8 years old. And Lynda says it was her love of anatomy and its ability to heal that drew her to medicine. Lynda became a massage therapist, an emergency medical technician, and owned businesses in the Wellness industry. So it’s no surprise the two met in medical school and became fast friends. “I’ve always wanted to do this on my own,” says Dr. Shaanta, who previously worked for a large, well-known healthcare provider. She says she liked the idea of having more autonomy in her own practice. “I knew Lynda was very capable on the business side,” she says. So after decades of friendship, the two also became business partners in March 2025 when they opened Gaia Family Medicine, located at 4086 Clairmont Road, in Chamblee. Gaia isn’t your traditional doctor’s office. They describe the practice as a unicorn where each patient undergoes a nutritional response testing. “We really are very good at getting to the root cause of the imbalances in the body and supporting the body’s natural wisdom [and ability] to heal itself,” Dr.Shaanta says. “We’ve really been successful, even in our short time, improving people’s lives and their health. I’ve been an integrative holistic medical doctor my whole career with lots of things in my tool chest that I tailor to each person uniquely based on what we find during our consultation and analysis.”

Dr. Shaanta says that one of her patients told her that he really likes the fact that they have close follow-up visits. This ensures that the patient is, in fact, getting better. In addition, they incorporate education about nutrition and lifestyle coaching that also encourages healing and overall wellness. “…Educating them [patients] so that they can make informed choices about nutrition or about lifestyle choices that may or may not serve them, we’re educating them about alternative choices,” they explain. Along with the ability to prescribe medication, they also carry an extensive apothecary of medicine and supplements that patients can’t find in stores. It’s unique in that patients can leave the practice with quality products and what they need. Gaia Family Medicine is a true family practice that sees patients of all ages – from newborn infants to older adults and they cover a wide range of conditions. Dr. Shaanta says she doesn’t shy away from the hard cases like when a patient has been to doctor after doctor and still doesn't feel right. She looks for the root cause and then finds the key to unlock the body’s natural ability to heal. Dr. Shaanta and Lynda say they love the idea of working with some of the local, like-minded providers, such as chiropractors and dentists, who have similar alignments when it comes to medicine, and also working with others in the community, such as the Chamblee Farmers Market, so residents have access to nutritious food and other healthy lifestyle options. From help with understanding the confusion around hormone replacement therapy to weight issues, and more, Lynda says Gaia is not your cookie-cutter practice. She adds they’re also mindful of budgets. “We don’t take insurance,” Lynda says. “We are a ‘fee for service’ practice.” She says they can generate a super bill or invoice that patients can submit to their own insurance companies that some companies will cover and some won’t. Dr. Shaanta is a native to the Atlanta area, and when it came to finding a space, she knew the area. “I like that it's up and coming and has a lot to offer,” she said, talking about the city of Chamblee. “I like that it’s diverse and I love that there are young people who are really interested in their health.” They found just the right spot that's centrally located for those in town and others driving longer distances. After being open for months the two have a vision of what they would like to see Gaia Family Medicine become. “I think we both really love the idea of being that hometown family practice where we’re taking care of the community, and I think that’s where our biggest focus is right now in terms of building a financially viable business,” says Lynda. “A business where we can practice what we love and still have that hometown, small town family practice that focuses on natural medicine.” Gaia holds a Wednesday Night Wellness series, where the public is invited to visit the practice to hear an educational talk given by Dr. Shaanta on specific health topics.
