Supporting Healthier New Year’s Resolutions By Dr. Olga- Owner of BeFAB Sticking to New Year’s resolutions can be difficult, especially when it comes to weight loss. Many people find it challenging to maintain progress over the long term. In our office, we see firsthand why weight loss is so challenging. Diet and exercise alone are often not enough. Despite strong intentions and willpower, many people struggle to see results on the scale. A strong health foundation plays a critical role in successful weight loss. Losing weight while the body is already unwell is neither effective nor healthy. During initial consultations, we often identify underlying issues such as poor nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, gut biome imbalances, and dehydration. These factors can negatively impact overall health and make weight loss goals difficult to achieve.

Hormonal imbalance is another common obstacle. Low thyroid hormone levels, increased cortisol from stress, and Fluctuations in key hormones such as thyroid hormones, cortisol, testosterone, and estrogen can all interfere with the body’s ability to lose weight. The key to success is identifying and addressing these obstacles. Whether the issue is nutritional, hormonal, or metabolic, there are effective ways to restore balance. In some cases, medications such as GLP-1 therapies including semaglutide and tirzepatide, may be helpful, along with other treatments designed to support metabolism and healthy weight loss. The most successful weight loss journeys are personalized and supported. At BeFAB, we partner with our patients to uncover the secret to successful New Year’s resolutions— so you can look and feel truly fabulous.

LIFESTYLE LETTER

Where Strength Meets Lifestyle New Year energy always puts people in two camps: the “all in” crew and the “absolutely not” crew. But for me, a new year has never been about reinventing myself. It’s simply another chance to grow, to level up, and to become an even stronger version of the person I already am. Health and fitness are a huge part of my life. Yes, I absolutely complain before every workout, but I still show up. Because that’s the game. Commitment is showing up even when you don’t feel like it. And I’ll be honest… part of why I work out is so I can eat all the sweets. That’s balance. Every day it's a struggle: Did I drink enough water? Did I eat enough protein? And let’s be real, I’ve felt more pressure as an adult to hit my protein goals (don’t even get me started on cottage cheese) than I ever did to drink in high school. That alone says everything. What I’ve learned is that health isn’t perfection. It’s celebrating the tiny wins no one else sees. It’s trusting the long game when progress feels slow. It’s surviving the messy days with grace and, let’s be real, a sense of humor. And health is HUGE in Centennial. Honestly, in Colorado overall. It’s a lifestyle, not a trend. It’s community. It’s connection. It’s people becoming stronger together. So we’re shining a spotlight on the places and leaders who make staying healthy in Centennial not only possible, but fun, empowering, and accessible — from CycleBar DTC, with owner Chris McMannon bringing the energy and community that keeps riders coming back, to Elevated Dermatology, reminding us that skin health is real health and confidence matters. We’re also highlighting CCIC and HealthONE and the real-world healthcare experience they’re giving students, helping shape the future workforce, along with Snöbahn, proving fitness can be playful, with indoor ski lessons and muscles you forgot existed. As we step into 2026, choose progress over perfection, not a “new you,” but the you who’s leveling up with style, strength, and a little attitude. Here’s to another year of community, connection, and unstoppable momentum.

PEDALS, PEOPLE, and the POWER of a SHARED BEAT How CycleBar blends rhythm, community, and challenge ARTICLE BY VALERIE BIANCULLI PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANDY ROBBINS PHOTO ART

The first thing you notice when you step into CycleBar isn’t the bikes, it’s the energy. Music hums under the studio lights, riders settle in with quiet anticipation, and there’s a sense of shared purpose in the room. It feels less like a workout class and more like a community gathering, one brought together by rhythm, sweat, and the unmistakable pull of movement. For owner Chris McMahon, that’s exactly what drew him in. He laughs when he recalls his first visit: “My wife was the one who told me to check it out. I was skeptical—I remember saying, ‘CycleBar? I don’t know.’ But we love outdoor cycling, so I went to a Saturday morning class. I walked out thinking, this is awesome.” McMahon had spent more than a decade in law enforcement before moving into personal training, and he had always imagined owning a fitness space. CycleBar wasn’t what he expected, but it quickly became everything he’d been looking for. “The workout was amazing. I mean, I couldn’t stay on beat to save my life,” he jokes, “but it was so much fun. And I immediately saw how much it could improve my power on the bike.” But the clincher wasn’t the cardio, it was the people. “The community just hooked me,” he says. “They were super welcoming, celebrating everyone’s wins. The instructors were phenomenal. The energy was unreal. I was like, yeah, this could work.” Classes move with the music. Riders shift side to side, rise out of the saddle, sync movements in what the studio calls the “choreo.” As Chris describes it: “It’s kind of like dancing. You’re using your arms, core, legs, it’s a full-body workout without feeling like a full-body workout.” The lighting, playlists, and pacing create an atmosphere that pulls you in, making each ride feel like an experience rather than a task on your to-do list.

16

In winter, when icy trails and cold mornings disrupt fitness routines, the studio becomes a hideout. Riders stay warm, stay consistent, and stay connected. “That’s one of the best parts,” Chris says. “You don’t lose your momentum when the weather changes. And honestly, it’s just a blast. You forget you’re even doing cardio.” For cyclists who usually spend long hours outdoors, CycleBar fills the seasonal gap with structure, challenge, and a sense of adventure, minus the freezing wind. Beyond the workout itself, CycleBar has built a culture around encouragement. Members cheer for one another during CONTINUED >

milestones or small victories. After class, riders linger—not to compare performance metrics, but to talk, share, and, sometimes, decompress. “A lot of people come in carrying stress or things going on in life,” Chris says. “During the ride, the music and movement help them zone out a bit. It’s therapeutic.” That sense of connection becomes especially important during winter months, when isolation can sneak in. “People need a place to feel supported,” he adds. “And this community shows up for each other.” Taking over the studio came with its own learning curve. “Running a business was totally new for me,” Chris says. “Being the leader my team needs, that’s been the biggest challenge. You have to communicate clearly, follow up, lead by example. And if you say you’re going to do something, you absolutely have to do it. That builds trust.” His background in law enforcement shaped his approach to pressure. “Little crises come up all the time, but I’m like, well, no one is coming after me for anything, so we're fine," he says with a smile. That perspective helps him stay grounded, even on busy days. “But I also try to remember that what feels small to me might feel big to someone else. Finding that balance is key.” Now, his focus has shifted to growth. More members, more sessions, and one clear goal. “I want this to be the best cycling studio possible,” he says. “I want people to walk in and immediately feel the energy that made me fall in love with it.” When asked how he’d describe CycleBar to someone who’s never tried it, Chris doesn’t hesitate. “It’s the best indoor cardio you’re going to find. It’s fun, it’s hard, and you don’t even realize you’re working out until the end when you’re like, ‘Man…I’m tired.’ That’s how you know it was a good workout.” In a season where staying active can feel like a chore, CycleBar offers something rare... a workout that’s warm, energizing, community-driven, and—maybe most importantly—something to look forward to.

Chris McMahon

Owner of CycleBar Centennial When you talk to Chris McMahon you quickly understand why the studio feels so grounded in community and purpose. Before stepping into fitness ownership, Chris spent 12 years in law enforcement, an experience that shaped his calm leadership style. “Little crises don’t rattle me,” he says. “If nobody’s life is in danger, we’re okay. We’ll figure it out.” After leaving the police force, he started personal training, but the dream of owning his own space lingered. When his wife spotted that the local CycleBar was for sale, she nudged him to try a class. “I was skeptical,” he admits. “But the workout was amazing, and the energy in the room was unbelievable.” He was hooked. Today, Chris leads with clear communication, accountability, and genuine care. “If you say you’re going to do something, you have to do it,” he says. “That’s how you build trust.” He stays motivated by staying fit himself. “I want to be prepared for anything—playing with my kids, joining a race, whatever life brings.” It’s that spirit he brings into every class and every rider who walks through the doors.

SNÖBAHN BRINGS SNOWSPORTS AND ACTION TRAINING INDOORS, MAKING YEAR-ROUND ADVENTURE ACCESSIBLE TO EVERY AGE AND ABILITY.

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | SP ORTS + RE CRE AT ION

For anyone who’s ever dreamed of learning to ski but felt limited by distance, cost, or confidence, SNÖBAHN offers a new way forward. Founded by Sadler Merrill, the indoor action-sports center was built on a belief that adventure shouldn’t depend on altitude or season. Merrill first fell in love with skiing in seventh grade and never looked back. But as his passion grew, he recognized the barriers that kept many people from trying it. “Learning is hard, and expensive,” he says. “About ninety-five percent of skiers and riders live in urban or suburban areas, so we thought, why not put the ski school where people actually live? Learn during the week, have more fun on the weekend.” That simple idea has reshaped the way the Front Range community connects with winter. Inside SNÖBAHN’s Centennial facility, there’s no lift line, no waiting for powder, and no off-season. The slopes are indoor, revolving surfaces that mimic snow, allowing students to practice turns and build technique in a controlled environment. Modeled after the Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA/AASI) standards, each lesson focuses on guided, measurable growth. From tiny beginners to seasoned riders, participants are grouped by age, skill, and discipline, so everyone can build confidence and keep progressing without ever feeling left behind. But skiing and snowboarding are only part of the story. Merrill saw potential to create something broader: an ecosystem where skills overlap and confidence compounds. Alongside the snow surfaces are trampolines, skate ramps, scooter and BMX setups, and massive airbags for safer trick practice. It’s a place where balance, coordination, CONTINUED >

and body awareness are learned across sports, not limited to one. Coaches often see crossover between athletes, a snowboarder improving spins on a trampoline, or a skater fine-tuning aerial control on skis. “Different toys, same foundations,” Merrill says. This multi-sport mix brings energy to every corner of the space. During winter, skaters, bikers, and scooter riders use the ramps to stay sharp, while snow athletes use trampolines and airbags to prep for real-mountain tricks. The environment is part gym, part playground, and part classroom, an intersection where adrenaline meets discipline. Safety anchors it all. SNÖBAHN’s philosophy follows three pillars: Safety, Fun, Learning— always in that order. Coaches are carefully trained, equipment is checked daily, and any feature that needs repair is closed and fixed immediately. Beyond lessons, SNÖBAHN has become a yearround hub for families and athletes alike. The space hosts birthday parties, youth camps, and open sessions where riders of all skill levels can explore, train, and play. Private lessons and small-group clinics create a personalized experience. Advanced riders receive focused guidance and instructor analysis that helps them refine technique. Even fitness classes are designed with snowsports in mind, helping participants build balance, strength, and stamina to perform better both on and off the mountain.

24

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | SP ORTS + RE CRE AT ION

The facility’s design also encourages social connection. Parents can relax in the café and viewing lounge, students can unwind between sessions, and visitors are often surprised by the sense of community that forms naturally. “It’s amazing to see how quickly people connect here,” Merrill says. “You’ll see a six-yearold just starting out next to a pro rider practicing a new trick, and everyone cheers each other on. That’s what makes this place special.” Still, it’s the personal moments that define the culture. Merrill says the biggest hurdle has always been explaining what they do, you have to see it, or better yet, feel it. The biggest reward, though, is clear: the comeback stories and confidence wins. “From post-injury returns to someone landing a lifelong ‘scary’ skill, like their first backflip, we get to share that joy,” he says. “Hard to beat that feeling.” That spirit extends into the community. SNÖBAHN partners with organizations like The Chris Anthony Youth Initiative Project, Adaptive Adventures, and The Chill Foundation, each dedicated to breaking down barriers and bringing more people into snowsports. These collaborations help kids, veterans, and adaptive athletes experience the thrill of sliding on snow, often for the first time. While the business may not label its efforts as “wellness programs,” Merrill believes its mission is exactly that, helping people live healthier, more connected lives. “More movement, less screen time,” he says. “Skill building is great, but life skills are better.” As for what’s next, Merrill is thinking bigger. His vision is to make SNÖBAHN the default model for action-sports progression nationwide. That means bringing similar facilities to more communities and inspiring more people to live lives of adventure, without waiting for the weekend or the weather. In a state defined by mountains, SNÖBAHN found its place in the suburbs, bringing the joy of motion closer to home. For beginners, athletes, or anyone simply chasing fun, it’s proof that you don’t have to travel far to find your next thrill. Sometimes, all it takes is stepping inside. Find SNÖBAHN at The Streets at SouthGlenn, 6955 S. York Street in Centennial, or plan your next session at snobahn.com/centennial.

CHERRY CREEK SCHOOLS TAKING ACTION TO MEET FUTURE WORKFORCE NEEDS

ARTICLE BY ASHLEY VERVILLE & BAILEY HULSLANDER PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEREMY CHAVEZ - CCSD

Stretching across 108 square miles of suburban Denver, the Cherry Creek School District has become one of Colorado’s largest and most forward-looking school districts. Serving 53,000 students across elementary, middle and high schools, the district balances traditional academic rigor with a strong focus on career readiness, exceptional athletics and activities, and a culture that supports every student as they discover their Pathway of Purpose. At the center of that effort sits the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC), a purpose-built high school that opened in 2019 to invest in hands-on experiences and career readiness for students as well as reimagine how business and industry can partner with public schools to fuel the next generation of the workforce. Instead of separating vocational training from college preparation, CCIC blends the two. Students rotate through industry-aligned pathways, from advanced manufacturing and transportation to health and wellness, IT and STEAM, that combine labs, mentors, internships and dual-credit coursework. The campus, which accommodates about 1,800 students grades 10 through 12, was designed to give students credentialing and real workplace experience alongside their diploma. In the years following COVID, CCIC has turned from an experiment into a proving ground. Rising demand from students and local employers prompted taxpayers to support a major expansion. From the November 2024 bond measure, construction on the CCIC is underway to double the facilities footprint, broaden the pathways offered, and increase enrollment so that more Cherry Creek students can access CTE opportunities without leaving the district. The new pathways that will be offered starting in the 2026 to 2027 school year include Automation, Robotics and Mechatronics, Aerospace Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Heating and Air Conditioning, Welding, Baking and Pastry, and Film and Motion Design. This is part of an ongoing investment in workforce development and connecting high school learning to regional labor needs. CONTINUED >

29

The expansion of career pathways also illustrates a broader shift in public education today. In an era when public school funding and community expectations are in flux, Cherry Creek Schools has doubled down on partnerships with local employers and industry partners to help shape pathways and curriculum that align with real jobs and in-demand careers. These partnerships are spotlighted at CCIC and across the district with various partners such as Mikron, United Rotorcraft, Reata, HCA HealthONE and others. A recent example is the partnership between the district and the new Denver National Women’s Soccer League team. Denver NWSL is investing to build soccer fields and a stadium in Centennial. This partnership also includes the City of Centennial and will help advance women’s youth, amateur and professional sports in Colorado and benefit Cherry Creek Schools’ students, families and the community. “Our partners make the difference when it comes to giving our students firsthand experience in the industry and working alongside experts in the field. Together we can help develop the workforce of the future and support students as they find their Pathway of Purpose and a fulfilling career,” said Christopher Smith, Superintendent of Cherry Creek School District. Another notable partner is HCA HealthONE. experience enhances the curriculum taught in the classroom with exposure to the hospital setting. Students shadow clinicians, observe patient care, and gain an understanding of the career opportunities available within the healthcare industry. As part of the Health and Wellness pathway, 11th grade students enrolled in the Certified Nurse Aide, Physical and Occupational Therapy, or Pharmacy Technician programs are invited to apply for the HCA HealthONE observation program. Once accepted, these students are offered up to 16 hours of on-site shadowing at HCA HealthONE Centennial, a part of Aurora Hospital, or HCA HealthONE Spalding Rehabilitation. HCA HealthONE Centennial is a full service, 20 bed hospital that has served the community since 1986 with emergency care and surgical services. Students in the CNA and Pharmacy Technician programs who participate in shadowing do so at HCA HealthONE Centennial. Their experiences may include collaborating with nurses and EMTs in the emergency department, joining the medical and surgical team during rounds with post operative patients, or gaining insights from pharmacists in the hospital’s inpatient and retail pharmacy. Since 2023, more than 150 CCIC students have benefitted from this in person learning. “Because HCA HealthONE Centennial is a boutique hospital, we offer a smaller, more intimate experience to visitors. For our CCIC students, that translates into more one on one time with our clinical teams where they can ask questions and broaden their

“Career pathways connect classroom learning with real jobs perspective on the field,” says Emily Trujillo, Chief Operating Officer. In 2025, HCA HealthONE expanded its partnership with CCIC to include HCA HealthONE Spalding Rehabilitation, Colorado’s first licensed acute rehabilitation hospital. CCIC students enrolled in the Physical and Occupational Therapy program are encouraged to apply for this shadowing experience, where they can observe inpatient stroke, brain injury, trauma, and orthopedic rehabilitation. Students work closely with physical, occupational and speech language therapists to understand the full range of patient care, from assessment and treatment to medical management and discharge planning. “We’re thrilled to welcome students who are exploring career opportunities in rehabilitation. It is energizing for our team to collaborate with the next generation of therapists, and we hope to see many of these individuals return to us when they are ready to begin their careers,” says Emily Wilkinson, AVP Rehab Operations for HCA HealthONE Spalding Rehabilitation. HCA HealthONE, a part of HCA Healthcare, strives to engage and serve as an anchor institution through strategic partnerships and community-based relationships. One of the key impact areas driving these collaborations focuses on increasing opportunity and access to healthcare careers. HCA HealthONE partners with local school districts and post-secondary institutions to support education and strengthen the community by creating an inclusive career pipeline into healthcare.

so students can build skills and move forward with purpose.” Beyond offering students hands-on experiences in hospital settings, HCA HealthONE supports their journey toward healthcare careers. Through its participation in Cherry Creek School District career fairs, partnerships with the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus, and a five thousand dollar scholarship through the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation, HCA HealthONE helps students pursue advanced education in healthcare. By working alongside educators and community leaders, these partnerships open doors to healthcare opportunities and help build a healthier tomorrow. For Centennial and surrounding municipalities, these partnerships and the expansion of career readiness opportunities is more than an educational story, it is an economic one. The region’s employers get a pipeline of skilled entry-level workers; students get alternatives to a four year college degree; and Cherry Creek Schools and local industry become partners in workforce development. Cherry Creek Schools and its Innovation Campus will be a model for other districts, a place where the classroom, the shop floor and the airport hangar are all part of the same high school day.

CHERRY CREEK INNOVATION CAMPUS (CCIC) CCIC is a career focused high school that offers hands-on, industry aligned pathways for students in grades 10 through 12. Programs connect students with real workplace experience, credentials and training that support their Pathway of Purpose. Address: 8000 S. Chambers Road, Centennial, CO Phone: 720-554-2600 Website: www.cherrycreekschools.org/ccic

“I actually had pretty significant acne as a teenager. More so on my chest and back, but it was to the point where I was choosing different clothing to cover to go to school. I was embarrassed by it and that was hard at such a monumental time of development. But I had an incredible dermatologist who changed my life with acne treatment and really gave me my confidence back. I kept this experience in mind as I went to med school,” Dr. Tesia Kolodziejczyk, DO, FAAD, at Elevated Dermatology shares her own experience and inspirations for why she became a dermatologist.

Founded in 2017 by Dr. Kate (DO, FAOCD, FAAD) and Christopher (DO, FAOCD, FAAD, ACMS) Messana, Elevated Dermatology has an office in Parker, along with a newly acquired location in Littleton. They provide all aspects of medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. This includes skin cancer screening, treatment for rashes and acne, removing skin cancers and other benign growths like cysts or lipomas, as well as injectables, lasers and skin care, all in-house. “I chose this practice because it really is a family-type vibe. We’re all a team and our ultimate goal is to help patients and to help make them feel better, confident and comfortable in their skin. We get people in quickly for appointments and we see them in a timely manner as well,” Dr. Kolodziejczyk says. Dr. Melanie Wolf, DO, FAAD, shares similar thoughts. “There is such a psychosocial component with dermatology where people see your skin. We can make a huge impact by treating rashes or other skin diseases. Mentally, it makes people so much better. I also love that we can treat patients of all ages. That was a huge thing for me. I like the variety of being able to see pediatric patients all the way to elderly patients.” Trending right now, Dr. Wolf mentions, “People are looking for more natural-looking cosmetic procedures. That would include lasers that are going to really even out the complexion of your skin and improve the tone and texture, which also helps stimulate collagen over the long term, as well as biostimulatory

fillers. Those aren’t going to give you this immediate plumping result; rather, they act as a sort of fertilizer and scaffolding for your own skin’s ability to make new collagen that lasts over the years.” Dr. Kolodziejczyk adds, “All my younger patients are really good with sunscreen, which I love to hear that as a dermatologist! But I do think a lot more people are becoming aware of utilizing SPF on their face daily and are more aware of the benefits as skin cancer prevention, but also anti-aging prevention too.” Ironically enough, when asked what we need more of, Dr. Wolf and Dr. Kolodziejczyk both agree that sunscreen and UPF clothing are, without a doubt, the highest priorities. It doesn’t matter so much whether it's chemical or mineral sunscreen; they just don’t want anyone to forget about their neck, chest and even hairline. A wide-brimmed hat is also a helpful companion. SWEETS The beginning of the year is packed with inspiration and motivation to get back on track after a sweet-filled holiday season. It can feel extreme, and it also can be depleting to cut oneself off from everything indulgent after weeks of eating favorite sweet and savory recipes. For sugar lovers who believe going cold-turkey feels intimidating or overwhelming, nutrition-packed desserts are a great way to stick to healthy food goals without the guilt.

1. Cut a banana into 8-10 small slices, around 1/2 inch each. 2. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter (or your choice of nut butter) on each banana slice. 3. Drizzle a small amount of melted chocolate chips or caramel over each bite. 4. Freeze for 15-20 minutes and enjoy! Pro tip: A dash of sea salt flakes on top of these can be *chef’s kiss.* These are great to keep on hand in the freezer all weeklong. Once they set, add them to a closed container to keep the bananas from browning.

Late night snack cravings are real! When finding yourself rooting through the cabinets for a sweet fix, these protein cookie dough bites are a great way to curb temptation. This recipe yields around 20 small bites, which can be cut into small squares or rolled into dough balls. Each bite is around 105 calories. If you find the dough is a little too dry, add a dash of milk as needed. Ingredients • 1/4 cup milk • 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder • 1/4 cup maple syrup • 1/4 cup peanut butter (or alternate nut or sunflower butter) • 1 cup almond flour • 1 teaspoon vanilla • Chocolate chips as desired Pro tip: Use mini chocolate chips and for a dash of savory add sea salt flakes on top. Once combined, store the bites in the refrigerator in a covered container to keep them moist.

Frozen PEANUT BUTTER Bites

Danger ahead: this snack is amazing. It’s the easiest of the bunch and also satisfies a sweet tooth craving. This can be whipped together in just 5 minutes and makes just a small amount. Feel free to take creative liberty here with your amounts, but if you make it to this recipe, they are around 90 calories per bite.
