There is something about spring in Celina that invites a fresh perspective. As the season shifts and our city continues to grow, many of us find ourselves looking at our homes with new eyes. How we live, gather, and express our personal style often begins right where we are. That makes March the perfect time to welcome our Home & Design issue.

In this edition, we are excited to introduce Ceci Bates Custom Homes as a new partner and feature. Known for their thoughtful approach to design and commitment to quality craftsmanship, Ceci Bates Custom Homes brings a level of intentionality that aligns beautifully with the way families are choosing to live in Celina. Their work reflects more than beautiful homes. It reflects the lifestyle and sense of place that make our community special.

Design is often found in the details, and this issue also offers inspiration for those finishing touches that make a house feel like home. Trisha Puente of Humble Home Designs shares expert insight on how to restyle your shelves with purpose and personality, proving that small changes can make a meaningful impact on your everyday spaces. Shades Plus shares what is trending for window treatments across our neighborhoods and businesses.

Of course, no Home & Design issue would be complete without reimagining the spaces beyond our walls. Complete Landsculpture, a trusted partner, showcases how outdoor spaces can become natural extensions of the home. Their designs transform backyards into places for gathering, relaxing, and making memories.

As you turn these pages, I hope you feel inspired by the creativity, vision, and community spirit (Way to go, Celina Cheer!) woven throughout this issue. Celina is growing, evolving, and designing its future, and it is an honor to share these stories with you.

As always, thank you for reading and we'll see you around town!

ROBERTH JORDAN

RESIDENTIAL DESIGNS

Design Shaped By The Vision And Needs Of Each Homeowner

Courtney Mitchell Photography

What do you think of when someone mentions the lake lifestyle? I think about a life lived at a slower pace, outdoor living, and time spent together with family and friends. The rhythm of a lake lifestyle feels both restorative and playful. I picture mornings that start slowly, with coffee on the dock or deck, listening to the soft waves of the lake and the birds, rather than the traffic we are so used to.

Home designer Roberth Jordan, his wife Andrea, and their son moved from Venezuela to Pottsboro in 2023 in search of the lake lifestyle. After working remotely for several years with Ceci Bates Custom Homes, Roberth was sponsored to join them in Texas. His goal is to design homes that embrace their natural surroundings, using the lake as inspiration to create peaceful spaces that encourage gatherings in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

Roberth was the first in his family to attend university, moving to the capital city to study architecture. As a child, he built cardboard homes, fueling an early passion for design. After beginning his career designing office spaces for the Herman Miller dealership in Venezuela, he shifted his focus to residential architecture, studying American building codes, preferences, and culture to tailor each home to the families who would live there.

Roberth has designed more than 150 lake homes across Alabama, Florida, Minnesota, and Texas. These homes emphasize generous gathering spaces, both indoors and out, with kitchens that feature multiple or oversized islands and less emphasis on bedrooms or private areas.

When designing a lake home, it is essential to position the house to manage sunlight, maximizing views while avoiding overexposure to the harsh setting sun. Thoughtful design also considers blocking strong north winds and adapting the home for year-round use, challenges that require an experienced touch. Above all, the guiding principle is the home's livability.

In recent years, many homeowners have sought to build lake homes that can also function as income properties. Features such as private pantries, storage closets, and garages for lake toys allow families to secure their personal belongings each time the home is rented. Roberth has also found that in recent years, he’s seen a growing trend of lake homes becoming primary residences, made possible by technology and remote work. More business owners and remote corporate employees are choosing to live and work full-time at the lake, enjoying the lifestyle without giving up professional continuity.

A look through Roberth’s portfolio at RoberthJordan.com reveals beautiful homes designed for Rock Creek Resort, Tanglewood, Lake Texoma, Pottsboro, and the north side of Lake Texoma at Cartwright’s Oak Hills. This spring, Roberth is opening a studio in Pottsboro to serve his home design clients and to offer interior design and home finishing services.

OUTDOOR LIVING REIMAGINED

In North Texas, outdoor spaces aren’t an afterthought. They are a defining part of how a home is experienced and valued. Given the area’s long, warm seasons, a population with an active lifestyle, and a competitive housing market, thoughtfully designed landscapes and outdoor living areas can significantly enhance both the homeowner’s day-to-day enjoyment and long-term property value.

Curb appeal plays a major role in that value. Many buyers have shared that if the exterior is well designed and manicured, they assume the interior has been maintained with the same level of care. Some even admit they will not get out of the car to view a home if the landscape looks neglected. First impressions matter, and landscaping is often the first signal of quality a buyer sees.

According to the team at Complete Landsculpture—a Dallas-based landscape design, build and maintenance firm with more than 40 years in business—successful outdoor projects begin with understanding both the region’s environment and the homeowner’s lifestyle.

“North Texas presents its own set of challenges,” says Gene Freeman, co-owner of Complete Landsculpture. “Extreme heat, clay soils, and sudden heavy rain events all impact how a landscape performs. Designing with those factors in mind is critical to protecting and enhancing a homeowner’s investment.”

Plant selection and creative site planning play a major role in creating landscapes that thrive locally. Native and adaptive plant palettes, efficient irrigation systems, and proper drainage solutions help reduce longterm maintenance while keeping landscapes healthy and visually appealing year-round. Landscapes should also be planned to mature gracefully over time.

“The biggest mistake we see is homeowners making outdoor improvements without a long-term plan,” Freeman explains. “When everything is designed as a cohesive whole,

the result looks more intentional, performs better, and avoids costly rework later.”

Outdoor living spaces are another major contributor to home value in North Texas. Covered patios, pergolas, and shade structures allow homeowners to comfortably use their outdoor areas even during peak summer months. Features like fire elements, outdoor kitchens, drop-down shades, and seating areas extend functionality into cooler seasons, effectively increasing usable square footage.

“Outdoor living should feel like a natural extension of the home,” Freeman says. “When these spaces are designed correctly, they improve quality of life now and create strong appeal if the home is ever sold.”

Equally important is cohesion between the home’s architecture and the surrounding landscape. Thoughtful design ensures hardscape

materials, plant palettes, and outdoor features complement the home rather than compete with it. At Complete Landsculpture, projects are approached with a master planning mindset to create visual continuity from the front yard through the backyard.

A smart investment strategy is another key factor in maximizing return. Rather than installing isolated features, phased landscape

“OUTDOOR LIVING SHOULD FEEL LIKE A NATURAL EXTENSION OF THE HOME. WHEN THESE SPACES ARE DESIGNED CORRECTLY, THEY IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE NOW AND CREATE STRONG APPEAL IF THE HOME IS EVER SOLD.”

plans often deliver stronger results by aligning each improvement with a long-term vision. Lighting, walkways and well-scaled hardscape elements can dramatically elevate a property while improving safety and usability.

Spring is an ideal time for homeowners to begin planning landscape and outdoor living improvements. Early design allows for better scheduling, thoughtful material selection, and proper preparation before summer stress takes hold. “The most successful projects are planned, not rushed,” says Freeman. “Spring gives homeowners the opportunity to make intentional decisions that pay off for years to come.”

Ultimately, enhancing home value through landscaping is more than visual appeal. It is about creating outdoor environments that function beautifully, respond to local conditions, and support how families live and entertain. For homeowners considering improvements this spring, partnering with an experienced local team can ensure every investment is designed correctly, built to last and aligned with long-term goals.

Complete Landsculpture is an award-winning, full-service landscape management and design/build firm serving North Texas since 1985. To learn more or get started on creating your own outdoor oasis, visit completelandsculpture.com.

Building Outside The Box

PHOTOGRAPHY

Nestled in a newly developed office center along Highway 289 in Pottsboro, you will find the striking new headquarters of Ceci Bates Custom Homes and Remodeling. While a homebuilder’s office may not sound unusual in a small town, stepping through their doors immediately reveals

something extraordinary. Owners Tom Ceci and Scott Bates are proud to welcome visitors into a space designed to showcase their passion for design, craftsmanship, and innovation.

Many business owners enjoy talking about what they do, but few bring the level of passion Tom and Scott exude. With a combined 68 years of industry experience, the duo has developed a distinctive approach to homebuilding that is constantly evolving. After years of seeing the same cookie cutter homes dominate the market, they partnered in 1999 with a shared goal of building homes that are truly unique. As they often say, “We build outside the box.”

That philosophy becomes immediately apparent as you explore their showroom. The level of custom work on display was once reserved for big city design

and architectural firms. Today, Ceci Bates brings that same caliber of craftsmanship and creativity to Texoma, often surpassing what you might find in larger metropolitan markets. Seamless design and elegant functionality define their work, with rich hardwoods, luxurious fabrics and leather, and exquisite stone and granite blending effortlessly with cutting edge technology and modern architectural styles. Wondrous and inviting, the showroom is an experience in itself.

“We don’t get trapped in a particular style,” says Bates. “Tom and I have a weird soup of experiences, and we draw from all of them. We have learned a lot along the way, and learning can be tough. Early on, it sometimes felt like we got punched in the face. But those experiences shaped us and helped us build homes that are truly unique and tailored to each client.”

CONTINUED >

“Legacy matters to us. While we are a business, we want to be more than that. When people hear our name, we want them to think of what great partners we are.”

Ceci adds, “We don’t want to be just another builder. We are not just building houses. We are building community. Working with our customers is like working as a team. Scott and I feel like we are curating experiences alongside our clients.”

Beyond their own expertise, Ceci and Bates have assembled an exceptional team of professionals, including internationally recognized leaders in architecture and design. Most recently, they partnered

with renowned interior designer Heather Shields and internationally acclaimed architect Roberth Jordan, further expanding the company’s ability to deliver one of a kind custom homes.

“Service is tied to our reputation here,” Bates explains. “Legacy matters to us. While we are a business, we want to be more than that. When people hear our name, we want them to think of what great partners we are. We are also an employee owned

company, and everyone here plays a vital role in what we do. We want to live here, serve here, and grow here.”

Looking ahead, both owners are optimistic yet intentional about the future. “Our business is growing,” Bates says. “But quality is everything. We are very selective about the projects we take on because we never want to compromise our standards. What we do is about quality and the overall experience. It is a balancing act.”

Ceci agrees. “You can’t be everything, but we are very good at what we do, and you can see that in the homes we build. We are expanding slowly and on our own terms. While much of our work is around the lake with new developments, we are also beginning projects near Bois d’Arc Lake. We invite people to come by and see what we are creating.”

Design Trends For 2026

Window treatments have evolved far beyond simple coverings, becoming a defining element in how spaces look, feel, and function. As homes and businesses increasingly prioritize comfort, efficiency, and cohesive design, window treatments now sit at the

Minimalist Yet Tailored Looks

Soft minimalism is taking center stage, favoring clean lines and refined simplicity over heavy ornamentation. Lightfiltering linen roller shades and tailored Roman shades are especially popular, offering a polished look that feels intentional without being fussy. These designs focus on effective light control while maintaining an airy, uncluttered aesthetic. Neutral tones, subtle textures, and precise tailoring create a sense of quiet luxury, making minimalist window treatments ideal for modern homes that value balance, functionality, and timeless style.

Layered Window Treatments

Layered window treatments are a top choice for homeowners seeking both flexibility and visual depth. By combining solar or sheer shades with woven or natural-texture Roman shades and finishing the look with drapery, you gain complete control over light and privacy. This approach works especially well in open-concept homes and rooms with large windows, allowing you to soften harsh daylight during peak hours and create a warm, inviting atmosphere in the evening with added texture and dimension.

intersection of style and performance. Light control, privacy, insulation, and aesthetic impact are no longer separate considerations. They work together to support the way people live and use their spaces every day. Looking ahead, 2026 trends reflect a clear shift toward intentional, multi-purpose solutions that enhance comfort, reduce energy use, and seamlessly tie into broader interior design choices.

At the heart of this movement is Shades Plus, a local, military-veteran-owned business specializing in custom window treatments and shade solutions across Frisco, Prosper, Celina, and North Texas. Founded in 2024 in Prosper by Frank and Abbey Giunta, Shades Plus was built with a clear mission: to offer a client-focused experience rather than a transactional, corporate one. Grounded in the core values

of integrity, quality, and thoughtful design, the Shades Plus team considers it a privilege to work alongside homeowners and business owners to bring their visions to life through tailored solutions.

As design preferences continue to evolve, window treatments are increasingly seen as long-term investments that enhance daily living and elevate a space’s overall aesthetic. The 2026 trends explored here highlight this evolution, showcasing how modern window treatments blend innovation, craftsmanship, and style to create environments that are not only beautiful but functional, efficient, and deeply personal.

Drapery Is Back! Technology Integration & Beyond

Drapery is making a strong return, bringing softness and sophistication back into modern interiors. Pairing sheer panels with blackout or room-darkening drapes in soft, neutral hues offers versatile light control throughout the day. Sheers gently diffuse sunlight while heavier panels provide privacy, insulation, and glare reduction at night. In open-concept spaces with expansive windows, drapery serves as a luxurious backdrop, framing views and creating a polished, magazine-worthy look that elevates the entire room.

Smart technology continues to transform window treatments, especially in homes with large or hard-to-reach windows. Motorized shades, blinds, and drapery can be controlled by remote, app, or voice command, blending convenience with modern design. Beyond traditional options, Smart Film technology is gaining popularity for glass entryways, sliders, and offices. With the touch of a button, glass shifts from transparent to opaque, offering instant privacy without sacrificing natural light or sleek architectural appeal.

STYLE YOUR SHELVES

Creating A Warm, Collected Home With Design Expert

Puente of Humble Home Designs

Shelves are more than functional storage, they’re a design opportunity. Whether you’re styling built-ins or open shelving, the right approach can transform them into a beautiful focal point. The secret lies in balance, layering, and a thoughtful mix of textures and personal touches.

START WITH A CLEAN SLATE

Before you begin, clear everything off your shelves. Starting fresh allows you to see the space clearly and prevents visual clutter. Take note of shelf height, depth, and the room’s overall color palette so your styling feels cohesive.

ANCHOR WITH LARGER PIECES

Begin with larger items such as vases, baskets, framed art, or sculptural objects. These anchor pieces establish scale and keep shelves from feeling overly busy. Lean artwork or mirrors toward the back to add depth and structure.

LAYER FOR VISUAL INTEREST

Layering is key to creating dimension. Stack books horizontally and top them with a small object, then balance with something taller nearby. Varying heights and depths help guide the eye and give shelves a relaxed, collected feel.

MIX TEXTURES AND MATERIALS

A blend of textures makes shelves feel warm and intentional. Combine ceramic, wood, metal, glass, and woven elements to add contrast. If your shelves feel flat, introducing texture is often the quickest fix.

KEEP A COHESIVE COLOR PALETTE

Choose a simple color story and repeat it throughout your shelves. Neutrals mixed with warm wood tones and subtle accents like black or brass create a calm, curated look. Limiting colors helps the display feel purposeful rather than cluttered.

ADD GREENERY

Plants bring life and softness to shelves. Trailing greenery, small potted plants, or simple stems in a vase add movement and freshness. Faux options can work beautifully as long as they look realistic and understated.

EDIT WITH INTENTION

Once everything is in place, step back and edit. Remove items that feel repetitive or unnecessary. Allow for negative space so each piece can stand out.  Shelves should feel balanced, not packed.

MAKE IT PERSONAL

The most beautiful shelves tell a story. Incorporate personal elements like favorite books, family photos, travel finds, or meaningful décor. These details give your shelves character and make them feel lived-in rather than styled for a showroom.

Shelf styling isn’t permanent. Refresh pieces seasonally, swap items between rooms, and enjoy the process. With thoughtful layering, texture, and personal touches, your shelves can become one of the most impactful design moments in your space.

Trisha Puente is a local interior designer and general contractor specializing in decorating and remodeling. Known for creating warm, inviting spaces with timeless appeal, she believes homes and workplaces should reflect the people who live and work in them, not a rulebook. Through thoughtful design and practical styling solutions, Trisha helps clients elevate everyday spaces in approachable, meaningful ways, blending function, comfort, and personal style.

MILESTONES MATTER: THE JENNIFER CAWLFIELD LEGACY FUND

Honoring Jennifer’s Legacy Of Love

Launched in August 2025 by Helping Hands of Celina, Milestones Matter: The Jennifer Cawlfield Legacy Fund honors the life and legacy of co-founder Jennifer Cawlfield and her unwavering belief that no student should miss out on life’s meaningful moments due to financial hardship. This initiative helps ensure that students throughout the Celina community can fully participate in the milestones that shape their school experience. Through Milestones Matter, Helping Hands of Celina provides assistance for prom tickets, yearbooks, graduation caps and gowns, fifth-grade camp experiences, and support for pre-K breakfast and lunch accounts. Donations remove financial barriers so that every student has the opportunity to belong, celebrate, and succeed.

As a former teacher, Jennifer had a deep love for educators and made it a priority to support Celina ISD teachers through the Adopta-Teacher program, which provides a $50 gift card to teachers each August. These funds were raised through the beloved Teacher Fashion Show Fundraiser, where local Celina businesses showcased their fashions and

teachers took to the catwalk. As Celina ISD has grown, so has the number of teachers and the need for support. In 2025 alone, Helping Hands of Celina purchased more than $30,000 in gift cards for the Adopt-a-Teacher program.

To continue honoring Jennifer’s heart for teachers and students in a sustainable way, Helping Hands of Celina met with Celina ISD administrators, teachers, and Jennifer’s husband, Eddie. Together, they chose to establish Milestones Matter: The Jennifer Cawlfield Legacy Fund —a lasting tribute that reflects Jennifer’s passion and values.

The fund supports activities that are meaningful in a student’s life but can place a financial strain on families. Fifth Grade Camp, held each November, costs approximately $310 per student. Yearbooks range from $30 to $60, and a senior graduation cap and gown costs about $90. Helping Hands of Celina also hosts a prom dress shopping

Jennifer and Elizabeth Huse, Co-Founder of HHOC

event for area high school girls, and Milestones Matter can now assist with the cost of prom tickets as well.

The need does not stop there. Requests for assistance continue to grow and now include middle school dance tickets and college application fees. Helping Hands of Celina aims to raise $15,000 in 2026 to meet milestone needs, increasing to $25,000 in 2027. As Celina ISD adds campuses and the student population expands, ongoing donations are essential to

continue Jennifer’s love for teachers, students, and the mission of Helping Hands of Celina.

Jennifer Cawlfield’s heart for the Celina community lives on through Milestones Matter: The Jennifer Cawlfield Legacy Fund . The custom Milestones Matter logo reflects her life and devotion to others. The butterfly resting on a heart symbolizes Jennifer’s everlasting presence within Helping Hands of Celina, while the teal color honors her courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

To help sustain Jennifer’s legacy and ensure that milestones truly matter for every student, donations can be made at:

DECLUTTERED KITCHEN, BETTER LIVING

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and also one of the easiest places for clutter to collect. From overflowing drawers to crowded countertops, a disorganized kitchen can make daily routines feel rushed and stressful. Decluttering this space is less about having fewer things and more about creating a kitchen that truly works for the way you live.

“A quick daily reset, a weekly fridge clean out, or a seasonal pantry edit helps prevent clutter from creeping back in.”

A clutter-free kitchen starts with intention. Take a look at what you use daily versus what rarely leaves the cabinet. When items that no longer serve a purpose are removed, cooking feels easier, cleaning takes less time, and the space immediately feels more open. Countertops benefit most from this reset, clearing them creates both visual calm and a functional workspace.

Decluttering also elevates the overall design. With fewer items on display, finishes, cabinetry, lighting, and backsplashes can shine. Open space becomes part of the design, giving the kitchen a polished, intentional look without changing a single fixture.

Smart storage plays a key role. Drawer organizers, labeled pantry containers, pull-out shelves, and

baskets keep essentials accessible while staying neatly contained. Assigning everything a designated place makes it easier to maintain order, even in busy households where the kitchen sees constant use.

Rather than treating kitchen decluttering as a one-time project, think of it as an ongoing habit. A quick daily reset, a weekly fridge clean out, or a seasonal pantry edit helps prevent clutter from creeping back in.

A well-organized kitchen supports better routines, calmer mornings, and more enjoyable time spent cooking and gathering. When the kitchen functions smoothly, the entire home feels more balanced.

MID-CENTURY WARMTH, REIMAGINED

There’s a certain moment when a house stops feeling new and starts feeling like home. It isn’t marked by square footage or finishes alone. It is something quieter, more emotional. In this home, designer Kate Manz set out to do exactly that: give a newly built home a heartbeat and a soul.

Rather than treating the house as one sweeping statement, she approached each room as its own story, layered with meaning, memory, and texture. The result is a home that feels collected, personal, and deeply lived-in.

“Tackling each space and room as its own story and concept is how to make a new space feel personal,” Manz explains. “But bringing it all together cohesively is always the challenge.”

Her solution? Warmth, intention, and a strong belief in the power of people. In new builds it can take years for a home to shed its newness. For this project, the goal was to fast-track that sense of belonging by layering in pieces with history and heart. Vintage market finds, local artists, and meaningful objects play a starring role throughout the home.

“My love for design goes hand in hand with the people and stories that bring it to life,” she says. “I absolutely love seeing the evolution from concept to completion and all the elements and people that help bring those ideas to reality.”

That philosophy becomes especially important in the home’s expansive open-concept living area, where scale could easily overpower intimacy.

THE OPEN CONCEPT, REIMAGINED

The main living space is defined by bringing the outside in with sweeping outdoor views and generous proportions. Rather than fighting that openness, embrace it.

“The big open concept room really highlights the expansive outdoor views,” she says, “but making intimate spaces within that open room was really important.”

A layered niche wall, created in collaboration with the interior architect Nick Flower, brings both structure and softness to the room. It introduces texture, depth, and a place for unique objects and family heirlooms to live, turning negative space into a personal gallery.

DESIGN TAKEAWAY:

In large rooms, architectural details like niches, built-ins, or material changes can create visual rhythm while giving meaningful objects a true home.

ENTRYWAY: A WARM WELCOME

The entryway sets the tone with a simple but powerful goal: Welcome to my home.

Natural stone underfoot grounds the space, while a soft vintage rug and living greenery immediately soften the experience. Art with personal meaning invites guests to linger rather than rush through.

MATERIALS:

DESIGN TAKEAWAY:

An entryway doesn’t need to be loud to be memorable. Combine tactile materials with one or two meaningful elements to create an instant emotional connection.

Luca split stone pavers, Vintage Turkish rug, Plants, Virginia Sin Wall hook

POWDER BATH: SMALL ROOM, BOLD SPIRIT

If there’s one place Manz encourages clients to take risks, it’s the powder room. Here, she leaned into terracotta earth tones, layering textures and tile sizes for visual interest and warmth. Patterned and solid tiles work together, while textured wall coverings and a sculptural stone sink elevate the space from functional to delightful.

DESIGN TAKEAWAY:

Small spaces are ideal for experimentation. Mix patterns, finishes, and textures within a tight color family to create depth without overwhelm.

LOUNGE: A STUDY IN CALM AND DEPTH

Designed as a counterpoint to the openness of the main living area, the lounge is a cocoon, both peaceful, layered, and deeply versatile. It’s a place for reading, movie nights and slow mornings. Rich tones and varied textures do the heavy lifting here, creating depth without heaviness. Soft lighting and custom upholstery make the room feel both intentional and effortless.

DESIGN TAKEAWAY:

When a room serves many purposes, let texture and tone create cohesion. A restrained palette with varied finishes keeps the space flexible and serene.

At its core, this home is a reminder that design isn’t about perfection, but rather it’s about feeling. By treating each room as its own narrative while weaving in warmth, history, and human connection, a space was created that already feels loved.

HOUSEPLANTSThe Perfect Roommate

AN INDOOR GARDEN SANCTUARY

The ubiquitous houseplant has long been a cautious curiosity for many. Comments such as “I don’t have a green thumb,” or “I can’t keep anything alive,” have echoed through the rooms and hallways of almost every home in America. Well, it’s time to dispel all the mistruths about whether houseplants are beneficial and to lay the foundation for a little oasis of green happiness in the corner of every home!

By the way, you don’t really need a green thumb as there are plenty of hard-to-kill houseplants that can survive any level of neglect! And remember not only do houseplants look pretty, they also decrease stress and anxiety, increase happiness, and bring a sense of joy and relaxation to every room.

Houseplants make us feel better about ourselves in many ways because they allow us to care for them and we reap the rewards of that love. No one is alone when you have a houseplant, as they are our forever listeners. Yes, some people actually do talk with their houseplants all day long! There are many science-based benefits to having houseplants in the home and office environment. Aside from reducing indoor air pollutants and increasing humidity in the

home, house plants have been shown to reduce mental fatigue, accelerate the healing process, as well as improve productivity and focus.

Pothos, spider plants, lady palms, yucca, and succulents are so pretty and easy to grow. It is no wonder that we have seen a revival of indoor gardening trends.  Instagram is teeming with photos of incredible indoor “living green” vignettes that show us all how clever we can be when decorating with house plants! All you

There are many sciencebased benefits to having houseplants in the home and office environment.

really need is to a pick a place in the home that has the best light and pick your plants.

Think outside of the box when it comes to decorating with houseplants. Look for underused spaces. Use mixed and matched pots of different sizes and shapes. Turn a shelf into a plant display. Go vertical with some hanging plants or an antique ladder. You can even group some of your favorite plants together into a single large decorative pot.

Signature large plant displays anchor the most well-designed rooms in America and it’s all there for us to look at, learn from, and bring into our own home. Whether combined into a single large decorative pot or clustered together in a corner, always remember the key to any house plant décor is to have a thriller, a tall plant usually with a strong color and form; filler plants that literally will fill the pot covering all the soil; and a spiller plant that trails over the edge

of the pot. Try any combination of your favorite plants or a tried and true combination of a fiddle-leaf fig, a prayer plant, and a string of pearls.

No matter how you look at it, houseplants improve our lives in many ways. Indoor gardens provide us an alternative way to commune with nature and to reconnect with the living world. We all benefit from the additional life that houseplants bring into our homes. In this crazy world of ours, wouldn’t be it nice to return home to your own personal indoor greenspace. Happy gardening!

EMBRACING A PARTNERSHIP WITH YOUR BODY

Wellness isn’t about restricting — it’s really about giving. Giving to yourself and to your body in a way that allows them both to thrive. The cool part? The things that give to your body naturally give to your mind, your hormones, your earth, your relationships, and so on — it’s all beautifully interconnected in that way. Eat your greens, cook at home, choose local produce and quality meats, don’t be scared of healthy fats — but also support local farmers, move in a way that makes your body and mind feel good, prioritize times of mindfulness and stillness.

• 1 4 oz. container coconut yogurt, unsweetened

• 2 Tbsp. fresh dill, minced

• 2 Tbsp. capers, drained and minced
