AUTHOR

Every Chapter Begins With Courage

There’s something special about witnessing a dream unfold in real time. I’ve had the opportunity to see that happen again and again through the authors I’m lucky enough to collaborate with.

With her addictively fun writing style, Elise immediately comes to mind. Having beta read with her since her first full-length novel, I’ve watched her grow not only in her writing but in the way she’s established a brand. Her newsletters are always a highlight of checking my inbox, filled with updates on her progress, her extended chapters, and everything in between.

Then there’s Kay, a former professional artist and educator who operates with endless imagination. She’s someone who requires constant stimulation and momentum, so in the span of a few years, I’ve seen her through multiple vastly different series and one-offs. Her drive is undeniable as she continues to push her limits.

Simone, a lovely lady I’ve walked alongside since her debut, is about to hit a very exciting milestone—her first traditionally published novel. Helping her prepare that manuscript for submission and watching her step into the next level of her career (while planning her wedding!) has been so rewarding. She’s been a true friend since the day we met.

And last but certainly not least… I recently had the pleasure of meeting Kim, who has been dreaming, writing, and refining her first book over the course of 19 years. Now, she’s oh so close to seeing it come to life. Being part of her process was an absolute honor, and I feel that she’s a reminder that no timeline is the “right” one, except the one that gets you there.

These women are an inspiration to me. Each of them has found a way to create a space for their passion, to pursue the tales they know need to be told.

Success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s built through setbacks, revisions, and even self-doubt. But whether you’re writing a book or working toward a completely different goal, the same truth applies: belief in yourself, paired with consistent effort, is what carries you forward.

In this Ladies’ Issue, you’ll find incredible women who show up for themselves and for their communities. I hope you take away that if you keep striving toward a goal, you will get there in due time. You have people who believe in you, and I’m 100% one of them.

Your Story Matters

The hardest parts of our lives can become someone else’s hope

Everyone has a story. Some have lived the harsh realities of war, abuse, or disease. Others have faced death, divorce, or addiction. The list of painful experiences could go on forever.

But no matter what your story holds, if you are reading this today, you have been given another day and another opportunity to learn, grow, and rise from whatever ashes life has handed you.

One of the most beautiful things in life is that we get to decide how we will use our stories. Will we allow them to bury us in the darkness and shame? Or will we choose to share what we’ve learned in hopes that it helps someone who might be walking a similar road?

The truth is that our stories carry incredible power: the power to heal, the power to connect, and the power to inspire.

My own story began from a traumatic bicycle accident when I was eight years old. I sustained serious injuries and had a

life-threatening moment on the way to the hospital. Although I made a full physical recovery, the accident left emotional scars that no one could see.

For decades, I struggled with fear and panic attacks. Most people haven’t experienced the exact accident I did, but many understand the overwhelming grip of anxiety. That’s where my story becomes meaningful to others.

After 40 years of therapy, medicine, and searching for answers, I began a health journey that transformed my life. Through healthier food choices and intentional mindset shifts, my body and mind began to heal.

Today, I use my story to encourage others who feel stuck in their own. Our stories aren’t meant to stay hidden. They are meant to be shared. How will you use yours?

BRAVE THE WAVES

Listen to Flatwater’s commitment to empowering patients, survivors, and loved ones through the voices of its leadership team

This year, approximately 161,330 Texans are projected to hear the words no one is ever prepared for. And with each cancer diagnosis comes an expanding circle—relatives, partners, friends—all navigating the emotional aftershock. As those diagnoses rise, so does the need for accessible mental health support that helps people face the unknown with strength.

Since 2010, Flatwater has been a steady force in that space, funding more than 78,000 therapy sessions for those who need them most. With a network of licensed psychotherapists trained in trauma and cancer-related care, they ensure no one has to navigate this alone. Their purpose is grounded in one powerful idea: returning families to calm waters.

“There is something deeply fulfilling about being able to provide specialized mental health support to those impacted by cancer who might otherwise not have the means to access care. Contributing to that kind of peace when someone is going through tumultuous waters is an absolute honor to be a part of, and having served in many roles at Flatwater, it’s especially meaningful to me to witness the collective effort that powers that peace. Every part of this organization relies on the others to move the mission forward.”

“One of the most fulfilling parts of being involved with Flatwater is getting to hear people’s stories and seeing how deeply this work truly impacts lives. Knowing that our program and this community have helped people feel supported, less alone, and in some cases even saved their lives is something I don’t take lightly. In something that can feel so isolating, Flatwater gives people support, connection, and hope.”

TOGETHER

“While I think many can understand the role and importance of nurturing mental health, for those dealing with cancer, prioritizing mental health services can be out of reach because of the cost involved in seeing a therapist on top of already mounting expenses in medically treating the disease. For a disease like cancer, which wreaks havoc on so many lives financially, the fact that we can fill a critical gap for those in our community by providing this access to care is an absolute honor and privilege to be associated with.”

“It is very rewarding to be part of something larger than oneself. Flatwater’s mission provides an invaluable perspective and serves as a constant reminder of what truly matters: supporting others through their most difficult journey with cancer. Additionally, it has been beautiful to experience the incredible sense of community that Flatwater creates. I am grateful to be a part of this work and to see the strength of the connections built through our mission.”

“It’s heartwarming how an introduction to a stranger organically becomes a deep conversation about very meaningful moments in our lives. At Flatwater, we warmly invite people to share their stories because those stories fuel our passion for what we do. It’s unfortunate how easy it is to find common ground around cancer, but talking about our experiences has formed valuable relationships. Every person I’ve met through this organization has enriched my life and deepened my compassion for helping others.”

Optimize your skin with the innovative treatments of GLO30’s founding team of physicians

SETTING THE SKINCARE STANDARD

At GLO30, skincare isn’t guesswork—it’s science. As the only doctor-founded, female-led skincare brand of its kind, GLO30 blends medical expertise with customized, seasonally adapted treatments that aim to evolve alongside your skin.

Every treatment is part of a larger, intelligently designed regimen. And that results-driven approach is one that Kasey Redus, owner and operator of GLO30’s Cedar Park and Westlake locations, couldn’t pass up.

“I was a Primrose franchisee for 13 years and wanted to get into another brand. It took me 10 years of research to find the one I wanted,” says Redus. “When I bought into Primrose, my kids were nine months and three years, so it was a perfect fit for me then. But now that they are in high school, I was eager to find something that fits me today. This is it!”

As someone who values supporting women in business, Redus was drawn to GLO30’s female-fueled foundation. She also appreciates the simplicity behind the services: proprietary medical-grade products, facial mapping to perfect Botox, and natural-looking results.

One of the most exciting tools they offer is GLOria, their AI-powered skin analyzer. This cutting-edge technology helps you and your esthetician determine exactly what your skin needs. It sets clear, trackable goals, so every few months you can actually see your progress.

At its core, GLO30 is built on the belief that everyone deserves to feel confident in their skin. With a commitment to genuinely personalized care, the brand is redefining what it means to achieve and maintain healthy, glowing skin. Redus herself is a firm believer that skincare is, and should be, fun.

“The most rewarding part is making new friends, seeing the results of the consistent monthly members take shape, and watching them love their skin,” says Redus. “It’s so great being a part of the bride-to-be’s journeys, the teenagers’, the moms’, dads’, grandparents’, singles’, couples’... We have everyone, all types and ages.”

For Every Season of Life

Build lasting strength when you become a member of the Jazzercise ATX community

Jazzercise pioneered the boutique fitness movement. But now, it’s a fully modernized workout rooted in exercise science, designed to take your fitness up a notch, in a way that actually fits your lifestyle. Whether you’re navigating early motherhood or stepping into another new chapter, it’s a routine that meets you where you are—and helps carry you forward.

Classes do more than just get your heart rate up. You’ll be incorporating strength training, HIIT, multi-directional jumps, and functional movement, in support of everything from bone density maintenance to balance improvement. And while the physical benefits are undeniable, there’s something equally powerful happening in the room: connection.

“Jazzercise has been a part of my life since before I had kids, so I guess Jazzercise is part of my family,” says Erin Van Kirk. “I actually found out that I was pregnant with my first babies—twins—while training to become an instructor. Since I don’t live close to extended family, I’ve relied on my Jazzercise family for strength, energy, and encouragement throughout all of my pregnancies and postpartum periods.”

For Erin, that reliability has been a lifeline. Knowing she can return to a program that’s equal parts safe and effective has helped her reconnect with her body after each pregnancy, without pressure.

Jazzercise also offers support through free childcare. It’s something that draws many moms in, but it’s the experience that keeps them coming back. Members like Aubrey joined when their babies were just months old and quickly found that both mom and child are able to gain friendships and a place to belong.

Because at Jazzercise, relationships don’t end when the music stops. They continue into post-class library story times, Galentine’s Day parties, lunches after morning sessions and dinners in the evening… and even attending the theatre performances of member Betty. Several of the instructors have text chains with their members so that everyone can stay in the know. It’s the epitome of a multi-generational community.

“What many new moms miss out on is the beauty of having friends in the later stages of life. The women who have experienced all the stages of motherhood already, and remember its difficulties and fleeting nature,” says Erin. “They will lift you up and remind you that

you are a wonderful mother. They will giddily offer to hold your baby when your arms are tired. They remind you that this time is precious and you won’t remember the messy house.”

In more ways than one, Jazzercise is about building a strong foundation so you can keep moving.

What you’ll find from a class is that cardio is only a piece of the puzzle. Every session maximizes your time with high-energy, constantly evolving choreography that pushes you to work hard while releasing stress. And while trying a new fitness routine can feel uncomfortable at first, that’s just part of the process. As instructor Michelle puts it, “What challenges us, changes us.”

There’s always something new to learn once you step on the dance floor. No two classes are exactly the same, which means even longtime members—like Katy, who’s been attending with her mom since 2017, and Barbara, who fondly remembers the leg warmer days of the ’80s—are kept on their toes.

“Dance literally rewires your brain. The more you do it, the easier it becomes, even if the moves or music are different,” says Erin. “Better brain health in addition to the physical workout… Talk about having a leg up on longevity!”

Stability Starts Here

Create lifelong impact for children in foster care alongside Austin Angels Founder & CEO Susan Ramirez

Today, Austin Angels walks alongside youth and families navigating foster care, empowering them with community. It all started with a conference in 2010.

“Judge Hathaway said words I’ll never forget: ‘Not everyone is called to foster, and not everyone is called to adopt, but anyone can play a role and make a difference in a child’s life,’” says Susan Ramirez. “When I heard that, something shifted for me. I knew we could do better, that we had to do better.”

That conviction became the foundation of Austin Angels.

With Ramirez’s personal foster parenting revealing gaps in family support, their programs are shaped by and respond to the real needs of those they serve. That includes their monthly Love Box® of essentials. The name came from Esther, a single mom caring for six boys, who exclaimed, “Here comes my love box!” when Ramirez delivered the first one.

On his 13th birthday, a box went to Ryan, one of Esther’s boys. Overflowing with gifts, balloons, brownies, and a handwritten card, it prompted his call to Ramirez, ending with three powerful words: “I love you.”

“I knew our program was working. Healing was happening, and lives were being changed,” says Ramirez. “That moment confirmed what I already believed… when people show up consistently and trusted relationships grow, transformation is possible.”

Those boxes continue to keep foster homes open, allowing children to remain in stable environments.

Austin Angels has grown into a national movement with 18 chapters across 13 states, thriving because of every person who has chosen to join and support this work.

“My vision is that by 2050, every child who experiences foster care in the United States will have support through our programs. I believe that, through the power of community, we will get there,” says Ramirez.

“I’m still in awe of what has grown from a small, humble beginning. This work is the greatest honor of my life. It may not always be easy, but it is always worth it.”

Reconnect with the Land

Embrace honest sourcing and practices with Mother Acres, a modern mama’s destination for intentional living

When Shayda and Sage Howell found out they were becoming parents, everything sharpened into focus. It transformed how they thought about nourishment, land stewardship, and the legacy they want to leave behind. That shift led them to Shayda’s family land in Lincoln, Texas, where they restored her grandfather’s property to raise their own cattle. With Sage’s background in Controlled Environment Agriculture and guidance from Shayda’s cousin Dustin at Keith Cattle Co., they stepped into the reality of building a herd, starting with their very first cow.

“The quality difference was immediate, and it made us realize how disconnected most people are from their food,” says Shayda. “We started sharing about our experience with friends and family, and naturally, people wanted access too. That’s when Mother Acres began to take shape as something bigger we could lean into and offer to our community.”

With their nose-to-tail philosophy came an expansion beyond food, leading Shayda to develop a line of skincare and soap products. Rooted in honoring the whole animal, that experience has been especially challenging

and therapeutic for her, allowing her to step away from her phone, work with her hands, and tap into something real.

At the heart of it all is how the animals are raised, because that standard of care shows up in every cut. With a Mother Acres cow share, you move from buying one package at a time to stocking your freezer with high-quality beef for months.

“Our cows are sourced locally in Lincoln and are never mass-produced or raised in inhumane conditions. They live peaceful, free-to-roam lives on pasture, and the only ‘bad day’ they experience is the day they are processed,” says Shayda. “The benefits are really threefold: quality, transparency, and value. You know exactly where your beef comes from, how it was raised, and what you’re feeding your family.”

Since launching Mother Acres, the Howells have brought in their first dozen laying hens, becoming more hands-on with animal care and giving their son a front-row seat to it all. They’ve also opened their farmstand to the community through smash burger pop-ups and mommy-and-me Pilates classes.

Mother Acres is an extension of how the Howells believe life should be lived. It’s about rediscovering skills that have been lost and bringing them back into daily life. More than anything, they want to give families the tools and confidence to make more intentional choices about what they bring into their homes.

Your kids might even learn a thing or two from their book The ABC’s of Texas Land , which aims to spark curiosity about the richness and diversity of our state and food landscape.

“If we can help families eat better, support local agriculture, and feel more rooted in the place they live, that’s the impact I care most about,” says Shayda. “I hope Mother Acres becomes part of a larger return—a movement toward rebuilding local food culture in a way that feels practical, grounded, and lasting for the next generation.”

That’s the idea behind Mukut, a modern wellness brand founded on the belief that the most effective personal care practices were perfected centuries ago.

BECKY HILLYARD

From Side Hustle to Style Empire

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”

She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s, she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?

A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Becky in Splendid x @CellaJaneBlog Spring 2026 Collection

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?

A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.

Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?

A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.

Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?

A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.

This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”
