The Power of Knowing Your Neighbors

I always get excited when the Love Local Issue rolls back around. It’s one of those themes where the possibilities feel endless—and somehow, narrowing things down becomes the hardest part. After all, where’s not there to love locally?

If you’ve been here for a while, you already know Cedar Park City Lifestyle is a hyperlocal magazine. (And if you’re new to the scene, hello!) Our role is to stay present, pay attention, and keep a pulse on what’s happening in the community. One of the ways we’ve done that—shameless plug—is by hosting Alignable meetings in the Red Horn Scottsdale Barrel Room.

Way back when, in August 2024, we launched our Cedar Park and Leander chapter of the Alignable Alliance of Greater Austin, kicking off a series of monthly Lunch & Learns. These gatherings are a constant reminder of how powerful connection can be. We’ve welcomed speakers from a wide range of industries and nonprofits, each with a story worth hearing and insights they look forward to sharing. There are those who have completely changed the course of their lives and now spend their time encouraging others to chase what they believe in.

Some attendees I only see through these meetings, thanks to the chaos of packed daily schedules. Still, every time we play the “how have you been” game, it lights me up. The quickest of conversations before and after the speakers take the floor continue to leave a lasting impression.

Red Horn has been the perfect place to host Alignable. As a Cedar Park-born business, it embodies the neighborly spirit we love to uplift. We’re incredibly grateful to the Scottsdale team for consistently making each Lunch & Learn feel seamless and welcoming.

Showing up matters. Whether it’s one of our networking meetings or not, attending local gatherings creates opportunities to connect with the people around you. Between live music shows, annual galas, school fundraisers, Chamber events, and city-wide celebrations, there’s always something worth putting on your calendar.

As you turn the pages of our Love Local Issue, I hope you’re reminded that community isn’t something we observe from the sidelines. It’s something we participate in. It’s built through appreciation for those around us.

Thank you for being part of this story. And of course, thank you for continuing to show love for where we live.

Built by Experience, Driven by People

Tasha Miller’s life has unfolded like a perfectly timed series of moments falling into place. After graduating college, she had no intention of entering the restaurant industry. But when a friend asked her to help out at the spot he was managing, everything changed. Once she got a taste of the fast pace, the people, and the energy, what started as a favor turned into a calling.

From there, Miller steadily worked her way up, moving through nearly every role the industry has to offer. She sharpened her skills in mom-and-pop shops and Louisiana mainstays, then stepped into the corporate world with Landry’s, where she learned how to turn around struggling locations by integrating solid systems and strong teams.

Those experiences prepared her for what would become a defining chapter: joining Pelons Tex Mex in Austin. She rebuilt the restaurant’s reputation, reinforcing Pelons into a beloved Austin staple, before the longtime owner entrusted her to take the reins.

Blue Agave Tex Mex came into the picture thanks to a food rep who saw her success and encouraged her to consider opening a restaurant in the suburbs. He pointed her toward a promising location in Avery Ranch, and on her first walk-through, inspiration struck. Miller hit the ground running, signing the lease in July, gaining access to the space in August, and welcoming guests in November.

Welcome new restaurant and bar Blue Agave Tex Mex to the community

“What I wanted was something that was still accessible, still amazing from-scratch food. But I wanted to elevate it just a touch and do the things that I never got off the ground downtown. So, doing awesome tequila pairing dinners, live music, markets, and partnering with the community,” says Miller. “That’s why I decided on Blue Agave, to take it up a notch and have a little fun.”

While the Pelons menu serves as the foundation for Blue Agave, Miller sees this spot as a place to play and evolve. She’s eager to let her chef’s creativity shine with featured dishes going forward.

That creative freedom extends beyond the kitchen, too. Miller partnered with Austin artist Wiley Ross on their mural, giving him space to fully express his vision and resulting in a bold centerpiece that sets the tone for the restaurant at large.

At the heart of Blue Agave is Miller’s belief in people. She can’t wait to see even more regulars come through their doors, ready to discover different agave-based spirits and hang out with friends over queso.

“Since opening, I’ve watched everyone work with their tables, and I’m in awe that this is my starting team. I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” says Miller.

She also owns Bar 508 Mezcalerita downtown, where Guy Fieri hosted the launch party for his Santo Tequila. During the event, Fieri sat down with Miller and asked about her business. When she explained her focus on fostering a positive culture to enhance the employee—and ultimately guest—experience, the conversation turned into a powerful moment of validation, one that reaffirmed she’s moving her career in the right direction.

More than anything, Miller values the ability to employ dozens of staff members through her restaurants, giving them a place they truly enjoy working while still being able to make a living. She’s quick to acknowledge that while Blue Agave is still new, she’s confident in what’s being established.

“Be kind to the staff as they’re learning and be honest with the managers,” says Miller. “The only way we grow and do better is by feedback.”

Book your special event at blueagave-restaurant.com and dine at 14900 Avery Ranch Blvd B100, Austin, off W Parmer Ln .

REAL-WORLD DOG TRAINING THROUGH SEE SPOT BEHAVE’S SISTER PROGRAM, SEE SPOT HAVE FUN

THATSTICK SKILLS

Most dog families want the same things. A dog who can enjoy life with them. A dog who can go on walks without pulling, settle when needed, handle surprises without panic, and join family outings without stress. But between busy schedules and the pressure to “train the dog,” it’s easy to feel overwhelmed before you even begin. That’s why we created See Spot Have Fun.

Dogs learn best through movement, exploration, and shared moments with their humans, not by repeating “sit” like they’re studying for a pop quiz. See Spot Have Fun grew from our desire to give dogs and people a chance to learn together in a relaxed, joyful way—no pressure, no perfection.

Neighborhood walks are full of unpredictable stressors—dogs behind fences, fast bikes, loud trucks, and tight sidewalks. Alternatively, parks and trails offer more space to breathe, softer introductions to challenges, natural opportunities for sniffing and decompressing, and environments that help both ends of the leash relax. That’s why we use parks as our classroom.

A confident dog handles the world more peacefully. A connected dog looks to their human when things feel hard.

Our goal with See Spot Have Fun is for dogs to practice handling new sights, sounds, people, and experiences in a supportive, realworld environment. Along with our outdoor sessions, we offer virtual classes that give families simple, bite-sized ways to keep building these skills at home.

We’re lucky to have beautiful local parks for this work. Lakewood Park in Leander has wide-open grassy areas and a lakeside boardwalk perfect for calm exercises and confidence-building. Devine Lake Park is quieter and less crowded, with gentle trails that help dogs ease into new experiences. Southwest Williamson County Regional Park offers long open paths and plenty of space, making it great for group sessions and gradual exposure work. And with its gorgeous scenery and natural movement, Lakeline Park is an ideal setting for practicing observation and resilience.

At the heart of it all, See Spot Have Fun is about dogs and their people enjoying life together. Whether your dog needs a confidence boost, you want to feel more connected on walks, or you just want something fun and meaningful to share, our guided outdoor sessions—and virtual classes—give you both a low-pressure way to build skills that truly matter in daily life.

Feel seen, styled, and celebrated as a bride with Salt + Waves Salon

Your Dream Wedding Look

With weddings, every detail matters—including your hair. Having a stylist who understands your vision makes all the difference.

At Salt + Waves Salon, the experience starts when you walk through the door, where you’re encouraged to talk through that vision. You leave refreshed, confident, and ready to take on your big day.

“Being part of a bride’s wedding morning is one of the most meaningful things we get to do,” says owner Libby Bednarek. “There’s this quiet moment before everything begins where she finally sits down, takes a breath, and realizes it’s happening. Being there for that and helping her feel like the best version of herself is something I never take for granted.”

Bednarek is drawn to soft, effortless, timeless styles. But the Salt + Waves team doesn’t believe in one-size-fits-all beauty. Through a range of services, her expert stylists handle the most natural and high-glam looks, making each client feel stunning.

And they know how to outsmart Texas summers. With one wedding, Bednarek recalls how humidity threatened to unravel everything.

“We switched the style last minute and created a textured, romantic updo that held better than the original plan.

+ WAVES SALON

The bride loved it even more,” says Bednarek. “Those quick pivots and problem-solving moments are what make wedding work so special.”

The key to choosing the right look is to start with the overall vibe of your day. Beyond the weather, your dress and personal style point you in the right direction. Bring inspiration photos that align closely with your natural texture, and always schedule a trial to take the pressure off.

Since opening her Leander location in 2019, Bednarek has built exactly what she pictured: an all-star team rooted in honest care for clients.

“Leander has this rare blend of small-town warmth and big dream energy. The community shows up for local businesses in such a genuine way,” says Bednarek. “Being able to grow a team and a brand in a place that feels this connected is something I truly love.”

A Space for Every Story

HEAR CANDID CONVERSATIONS ON THE CHOCOLATE & SPICE TALK PODCAST

PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF CHOCOLATE & SPICE TALK

Nidhi Singh has always been energized by people, easily stepping into new spaces, comfortable in crowds and conversation alike. Her sister, Neha Singh, has long been the opposite: private, quiet, and intentional about keeping a tight circle.

Yet where they diverge in temperament, they align in momentum. When inspiration strikes, both have a shared instinct to pick something up and run with it.

“In one of our regular calls, we wondered what it would be like to talk about topics from our very different lenses,” says Neha. “We didn’t know of any specific talk shows that had two sisters take 180-degree opposite viewpoints. And that was it, really!”

“I was excited but also a little hesitant. I had a sixyear-old at home and wasn’t sure how much time or energy I could realistically dedicate,” says Nidhi. “But the more we talked about it, the more it felt natural. We already spend hours on the phone talking about life, family, work, parenting, relationships—so the question became: why not document these conversations? ”

What began as curiosity quickly evolved into something bigger. The sisters started chatting seriously about sharing their perspectives, learning from one another in real time, and putting something honest into the world. The goal was to speak openly about their journeys and see if they resonated with someone else navigating similar life experiences.

Within a week, their podcast was named Chocolate & Spice Talk, with Neha as the “chocolate” and Nidhi as the “spice.”

They started by digging into topics they knew intimately—childhood, motherhood, pregnancy, and aging. But with each episode, the ideas multiplied. For Neha, a standout moment came when her son joined the show for a valuable interview about arranged marriage and relationships. For Nidhi, their episode on money management and financial stability proved especially empowering.

Ultimately, getting to know one another on a deeper level has left a lasting impact, as their thoughtful discussions continue to peel back layers of themselves. After all, they don’t shy away from vulnerability or disagreeing respectfully.

“We’ve always been close since our teenage years, but this venture has helped us learn about so many more areas of our personalities and lives. We even discovered things we didn’t know about each other as we talked on this very open show,” says Neha.

“Being the younger sister, I grew up a little more carefree. She carried the weight of being the responsible one, and hearing her reflect on that has given me so much perspective,” says Nidhi. “Now that we’re older and hopefully wiser, those conversations feel even more meaningful.”

At its core, Chocolate & Spice Talk is meant to feel like a community. That’s why listener-suggested topics play such a central role, and why welcoming guests onto the show has been so rewarding. Each new voice brings another reminder that no two paths look the same.

“In this age of mass media and algorithmic inflation of bubbles, where nothing is about individuals anymore, we want to celebrate every single person,” says Neha. “We believe in the uniqueness of personalities, situations, stories. You don’t have to be the most successful or famous in anything to know how to live your life.”

“Nothing in life is purely right or wrong. It’s often just different. And it’s hard to understand someone else’s choices unless we take the time to hear their story,” says Nidhi. “We hope this podcast becomes a space where people feel encouraged to do exactly that.”

“If our platform can give people permission to reflect, share, or even just listen and feel understood, that’s success for us.” -Nidhi Singh

SELF-LOVE IS SELF-INVESTMENT

TAKE AN INSIDE-OUT APPROACH TO BEAUTY WITH ACCESSIBLE AND LUXURIOUS TREATMENTS FROM FOREVER GLOW AESTHETICS

“That ‘refresh, don’t replace’ philosophy isn’t just a tagline— it’s how I practice.”

Three years into its presence in Leander, Forever Glow Aesthetics is more than a typical medical spa. Under independent injector Danielle Bayer’s leadership, the experience is defined by an approach that feels like working with a trusted friend.

From 20-somethings exploring preventative Botox to those in their 50s navigating natural aging, Forever Glow serves people at every stage of life. What unites those clients is intention. They are making strategic, thoughtful investments in themselves.

“From the moment someone reaches out, whether through a DM or call, I make sure they know there’s no judgment and no pressure,” says Bayer. “Our consultations are thorough and educational. I want clients to understand what we’re doing and why, what realistic results look like, and that ‘no’ is always an acceptable answer.”

Bayer recalls how one client came in self-conscious about the lines between her eyebrows,

which made her appear angry even when she wasn’t. Worried about looking frozen, she had delayed Botox, but after a careful, conservative treatment, the client followed up two weeks later with a heartfelt message: her face finally matched how she felt inside.

Forever Glow Aesthetics has also expanded beyond traditional injectables with the launch of medical weight loss program Glow Wellness. Alongside clients who spent years feeling defeated with their weight, Bayer has witnessed firsthand how life-changing the right support can be. As they begin to hit their body and energy goals, the transformation extends well beyond appearance.

“What I love is when clients come back not for a specific ‘fix,’ but because they trust me to help them maintain and enhance their natural beauty over time,” says Bayer.

She credits much of Forever Glow’s success to being embedded in a community that values supporting local businesses and collaborating with likeminded professionals. Her recent partnership with the estheticians at The Hive Salon & Spa is something she’s especially grateful for, creating opportunities for more comprehensive aesthetic care under one roof.

This month, Forever Glow is highlighting how beauty starts from within. Through peptide therapies and NAD+ treatments, Bayer looks forward to making high-quality care attainable for the community whose well-being she cares so deeply about.

“February is a perfect time to focus on self-love,” says Bayer. “We’re shifting the conversation from treating yourself once a year to establishing sustainable self-care practices that make you feel confident year-round.”

CAPTURE COMMUNITY SPIRIT WITH TOMAN IMAGERY & DRONEWORKS

VALENTINE’S DAY CHEESECAKE

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY CASSIE SUPPES

Valentine’s Day is all about showing your loved one just how much you care. Rather than opting for the predictable chocolates and flowers, why not showcase your culinary prowess and create a one-of-a-kind cheesecake? Not only will this delectable treat demonstrate your affection, but it will also add a personal and luxurious touch

to the holiday celebration. Make this Valentine’s Day truly memorable by going above and beyond with a heartfelt, homemade gift. Cheesecake is the perfect dessert for two because it’s both rich and indulgent, but not too heavy. Plus, it can be easily customized to fit your own personal taste and it’s much easier than you think!

TO MAKE THE PERFECT CHEESECAKE,

• 1 pound cream cheese, softened

• 1 cup sugar

• 3 eggs

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix together the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Next, add in the sour cream and heavy cream and mix until everything is well combined. Pour the mixture into the prepared graham cracker crust and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the cheesecake is set. Let cool completely before serving.

For this recipe, we decided to add berries and honey to the top of our cheesecake. Take the time to make yours special to your relationship. With toppings such as chocolate, jelly, whip cream, berries, fruit, or whatever your partner’s favorite is you’re sure to make them smile. Make things colorful by adding food coloring to the mix, it can even be made in their

YOU’LL NEED:

• 1/2 cup sour cream

• 1/2 cup heavy cream

• 1 prepared graham cracker crust

favorite color. You can also change things up by making your own crust with Oreos or cinnamon crackers.

To elevate this recipe to the next level, consider using high-quality ingredients such as grass-fed cream cheese and locally sourced honey. For added luxury, try using a blend of different types of berries, or even substituting the graham cracker crust with a crust made of crushed pistachios or hazelnuts.

In addition to adding a variety of toppings, you can also get creative with the presentation. For example, try using a springform pan to create a heart-shaped cheesecake, or using cookie cutters to create fun shapes out of the cheesecake slices. You can also garnish the cheesecake with edible flowers or a sprinkle of edible gold dust for a truly indulgent experience.
