Your “Now” is Worth the Investment

Investment is often framed as a strategy for “someday.” Save now. Plan now. Sacrifice now. And you’ll reap the benefits somewhere down the line. But what would happen if you reframed investment as a strategy for “today”?

Across our area, you’ll find businesses that are establishing their legacies now. They are cultivating loyal communities, elevating customer experiences, and truly taking the time to innovate. They understand that momentum is created in the present tense, so they aren’t waiting until the future to make moves.

The same principle applies on a personal level. Investing in your sports skills means committing to practice, practice, practice. Investing in your health means prioritizing your body before a diagnosis demands it. Investing in your education means pursuing knowledge that sharpens your edge. And investing in your future as a business owner means following the passion that pulled you into entrepreneurship in the first place— treating it not like a hobby, but like a long-term pursuit worthy of discipline and belief.

One quote that I love comes from baseball legend Babe Ruth: “Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.” It’s a reminder that setbacks are simply part of the process of getting closer to success, not a signal to stop.

Real growth is rarely accidental. It’s built through your daily decisions. The “now” shapes the “next.” Every intentional action, every hour spent strengthening your self-confidence, compounds over time.

Showing up is everything. Showing up for yourself, for your dreams, for what could (and can) be. It means giving what matters your attention today, not someday, once you hopefully have more of your ducks in a row. Happiness doesn’t have to be a distant reward.

So, as you flip through this Investment Issue, I challenge you to ask yourself: What would happen if you invested in your “now”? Where can you pour a little extra time, energy, or love? What will it take for you to live the life you want to live?

Those are the questions each of the people in this issue had to ask themselves in order to get to where they are. It takes nerve to step into the unknown, and they did it anyway. We’re proud to share these stories.

Thank you for your continued support of City Lifestyle, aka our investment in the Cedar Park and Leander community. Here’s to making every day count!

Redefining MVP: TIM TEBOW’S LIFE BEYOND FOOTBALL

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.

A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.

Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?

A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.

Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?

A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.

Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?

A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.

“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”

Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?

A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”

Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.

This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

Discover how premier facility Apex Pickleball Clubs has built a cutting-edge hub for recreation

SERVE UP COMMUNITY

When Nathan Parodi and his family set out to develop Apex Pickleball Clubs, they toured everything from warehouses to old furniture stores across Austin. Nothing clicked.

But upon finding an open stretch of land in Cedar Park, there was only possibility in front of them. What sealed the deal was a business-oriented city eager to collaborate on their dream.

“Being that my family has been in Austin for a long time, we were familiar with Cedar Park and have played at the parks and pickleball clubs around the area quite often. So, we knew there was a dense population of pickleball players here,” says Nathan.

Apex was created not just to help people improve their pickleball skills, but for the love of the game. The kind of love that keeps you coming back to their 16 state-of-the-art courts, where members and guests alike are invited to have genuine fun.

Inside the club, you’ll also find PickleDilly’s, a restaurant and bar to swing by before or after your match. Nathan swears you can’t go wrong with their menu, but if you need a starting point, the steak frites are a standout and the burger never misses.

Since opening in February, the Apex team has received a steady stream of praise for their overall experience.

“Seeing Apex finally come to life is surreal. It’s been a long time coming, so seeing it operating and in action is an incredible feeling,” says Nathan.

Their coaching team especially raises the bar. Head pro Brandon Nsekpong, voted the #1 pickleball coach in Austin, leads with keen analysis and a personalized touch. Whether you’re brand new to the sport or

chasing a competitive career, he and the other PPR-certified coaches meet you where you are. Aside from being great players, they are great people who are gifted in teaching and communicating.

“Apex is going to set a new standard for how a pickleball club is supposed to be. We designed the building to be a place where pickleball players can gather to hang out all day,” says Nathan. “Our facility is top-notch and the food is phenomenal, but the best part about Apex is the people. From the top down, the staff is devoted to making everyone have the best experience they’ve ever had.”

Helping Good Men Get Better

TAKE OWNERSHIP OF YOUR FUTURE WITH B1 MEN’S HEALTH

ARTICLE BY MEGAN MARSHALL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY AARON CASH

Dr. Michael Bevins has always been drawn to the big questions. During his studies at the University of Texas at Austin, followed by his time at UTMB in Galveston, he immersed himself in philosophy and science. He earned a PhD in Medical Humanities, a field that explores everything from the history of medicine to medical ethics.

That foundation shaped the way he practices today. Bevins takes a more philosophical approach to medicine than most. Even the name of his practice—B1 Men’s Health—is inspired by the words of Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius: “Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.”

Everything he does is anchored in the future that a patient desires to create for himself.

“My mother was a nurse and was always helping people in our community. Her last job before retiring was at a hospital in Austin, where she received an award for community volunteerism,” says Bevins. “I learned the value of helping others from her example.”

That calling has led him to study functional and integrative medicine extensively while providing comprehensive primary care through B1 Men’s Health. He covers the full spectrum—checkups, chronic disease management, basic office procedures—but his aim goes further. He wants men to build resilient bodies and reduce their dependence on prescriptions.

Central to that mission is metabolic health and hormonal balance. Metabolic health determines how the body uses and stores energy, influencing things like heart disease and autoimmune disorders. Hormones, meanwhile, are the body’s communication system, governing mood, drive, and focus. When those systems are optimized, men feel more powerful in their day-to-day lives. It’s about restoring balance.

As a family doctor, Bevins has cared for patients at every stage of life. He’s quick to say they and their loved ones have been some of his greatest teachers.

“For many years, I worked as a hospice physician, taking care of people nearing the end of life. I saw how so many people suffer for years, even decades, because of poor health,” says Bevins. “I also saw how many people come to the end of life with a lot of regret. They realize they never had a chance to live the life they really wanted.”

Those experiences convinced him that the conventional U.S. medical care system isn’t compatible with excellence in medicine. So, he chose a different path. The concierge-style, direct primary care at B1 Men’s Health offers unhurried visits that start on time, with no co-pays and plenty of other benefits.

“I knew if I wanted to start a practice that reflected what was in my heart, I would need to go outside the traditional insurance-dominated system,” says Bevins. “The direct primary care model allows me to provide excellent, holistic care for men at an affordable rate. And it works much better for patients.”

Too many men today are simply going through the motions. But they don’t need another surface-level solution. They need an evidence-based approach that honors both body and mind, from a professional who cares to see the whole picture.

“It’s simple and cliché, but entirely true: the best part about being a doctor is just getting to help people. Hearing their stories, earning their trust, and partnering with them to move toward their goals and realize what’s most important to them,” says Bevins. “I believe every man has a life he’s meant to be living, a path he’s meant to walk in this world.”

Making Sense of Money

LEARN

HOW YOU CAN GAIN PRACTICAL TAX STRATEGIES TAILORED FOR SAVVY BUSINESS OWNERS AND INVESTORS FROM YAP FINANCIAL

After earning his bachelor’s in accounting, Diyan Yap stepped straight into the world of numbers and never looked back.

He served as a business manager for the Network of International Christian Schools in Indonesia and Brazil before he and his wife moved to Austin. With his new job as a bookkeeper at a real estate equity firm, he spent the next decade immersed in high-level financial investments.

But as an immigrant, Diyan felt a growing pull toward those who felt overwhelmed by the system. He understood the uphill climb and wanted to be part of the solution.

“There’s an IRS program where you can volunteer with low-income people with their tax filing, called VITA. I volunteered for a couple of years,” says Diyan. “Being in the U.S., I wanted to know about the tax system while, at the same time, helping underprivileged families and people who need assistance.”

“Tax code is so complicated. But that’s why I need to understand it really well, to be able to explain it in simple words.”

Over time, the firm’s demanding hours and downtown commute began costing him valuable moments with his family. So, he made the leap to launch his own business that offered greater flexibility—Yap Financial.

Now, without hours lost in traffic, when Diyan isn’t running numbers, you’ll likely find him staying active, hiking trails with his wife and biking with his two children. He’s also involved in his church community and enjoys meeting with clients at local coffee shops.

To strengthen his professional credibility, Diyan took the IRS Enrolled Agent exam. The designation allows him to represent taxpayers before the IRS, expanding his ability to guide clients in navigating tax strategy. And in his case, that means streetsmart tax strategies.

“It’s not easy building a business because you start from scratch. But I actually have a few clients I already knew from my work with the equity firm, who I now help with tax planning,” says Diyan. “I’ve known them since I moved here, so I know their history.”

One couple in their mid-50s first came to him, owning a business but with no retirement savings. Diyan walked them through calculating their monthly burn rate so they could clearly see where their money was going, then identified realistic savings opportunities. Today, their retirement stack continues to grow.

Diyan believes in cutting through the noise. In a world full of social media financial “hacks,” he prefers simple, honest conversations. He’ll tell you that basic business 101 is that you need to make a profit before you even begin thinking about tax write-offs and benefits.

“If you go to the doctor, they do blood tests to determine why you’re sick. So, for me, the tax return is the blood test,” says Diyan. “I can see the real things that are happening. I can analyze them. I can offer a better way. But the final decision is based on them.”

• Orange Twist

• Glass Type: Coupe

The Income Tax Cocktail likely popped up during the Prohibition party scene of the 1920s. Its exact origin story remains a bit blurry, but it was definitely a hit in speakeasies.

The name? Well, it's like a cheeky nod to the idea that sipping on this cocktail might be more fun than paying actual taxes! Made with gin, sweet vermouth, orange juice, and a dash of bitters, it's like a boozy adventure for your taste buds, with hints of citrus and herbs. Despite its vintage roots, the Income Tax Cocktail still brings the party vibes, transporting you back to the roaring '20s.

HERITAGE FUELED, FUTURE FOCUSED

EXPLORE THE SUSTAINABLE GROWTH STRATEGY BEHIND DE GRACIA & ESTEVEZ CIGARS

Since setting up their cigar lounge at Iron Wolf Ranch & Distillery, De Gracia & Estevez Cigars has been off to the races, offering an elevated experience at every turn. Their past year has been defined by intention. Through each aspect of De Gracia & Estevez, growth has meant building long-term brand equity and creating lasting value.

On the cigar side, under the leadership of Research & Development Officer Hector Estevez, the team continues to refine its boutique manufacturing in Santiago, Dominican Republic. They are doubling down on smallbatch production, tighter quality control, and highly selective distribution partnerships that protect the integrity of their blends.

“We believe sustainable growth, rooted in craftsmanship, authenticity, and service, is the most meaningful investment we can make,” says CEO and Managing Partner Miguel De Gracia.

Community engagement has become a cornerstone of their investment strategy. As proud sponsors of the 2026 season at the Sarasota Polo Club, golf

tournament collaborators with Folds of Honor, and partners of Ditka’s Gridiron Greats, they align their brand with tradition and legacy. They also support service-driven organizations like the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association, reinforcing their commitment to those who aid their communities.

Live cigar rolling has become one of the most engaging additions of the brand, transporting the artistry of Santiago directly into holiday parties, weddings, and corporate gatherings. From events hosted by the Greater Austin Hispanic and the Greater Austin Asian Chambers of Commerce to the exclusive “Cigars with the Stars” VIP experience in San Francisco during Super Bowl Week, their appearances transform cigars from a product into a shared experience. It’s one that guests can see, smell, and appreciate in real time.

“These partnerships reflect our belief that strong brands are built not only through product excellence, but through meaningful contribution and shared values,” says Miguel. “As we continue to grow within Cedar Park, West Austin, and beyond, our focus remains: measured expansion, operational efficiency, and strategic investments that strengthen both our brand and the communities we’re proud to be part of.”

One of their most recent expansions has been into coffee. With the launch of Manabao Coffee—including specialty roasts like ChocoMoka and Amaretto—De Gracia & Estevez has reinforced its Dominican identity while broadening its lifestyle footprint. The move is an extension of the culture that has always shaped the brand.

By sourcing Dominican-grown beans and joining forces with artisanal roasters who uphold the same standards as their cigar program, the team ensures the quality is unmatched.

“What I’m most proud of is that we’ve grown without compromising authenticity. We’ve remained deeply rooted in our Dominican heritage and committed to craftsmanship,” says Miguel.

Forward-thinking growth is the name of the game. With more interactive, educational workshops and high-profile sponsorships on the horizon, De Gracia & Estevez continues to fortify its presence within premium lifestyle markets.

“Over the next five years, our vision is to position De Gracia & Estevez as a nationally recognized boutique luxury brand. One that honors tradition while embracing innovation, expands thoughtfully into key markets, and builds lasting relationships across retail, hospitality, and community partnerships,” says Miguel. “If we stay disciplined and true to our values, I believe the brand will not only grow, it will endure.”
