Castle Rock, CO May 2026

Page 1

The number of homes sold has increased slightly compared to 2023 and 2024, showing that buyers are active, but selective.

Home values in Castle Rock are currently flat year over year, with average sales prices holding steady. Last month, most sellers closed about 2% below their original asking price, and as competition increases, that gap will decrease.

For sellers, strategic pricing and proper staging are critical in today’s market. For buyers, the slower pace creates opportunity to negotiate price, closing costs, and inspection items.

The Ladies of Castle Rock

Hi Neighbors,

May has arrived in all its high-country glory, and at Castle Rock City Lifestyle, we couldn't be more excited to present our annual Ladies Issue While we love our town every day of the year, this month we’re hitting "pause" to intentionally celebrate the women who make Castle Rock such a vibrant, supportive, and successful place to live.

This issue is a tribute to the incredible "ROI" women provide our community—and I’m not just talking about business! We love the civic leaders shaping the future of Douglas County. Their vision and grit are what keep our local economy thriving and our town moving forward.

We also know that the true strength of Castle Rock often lies in the "behind the scenes" women. These are the neighbors who quietly lead non-profits, the mothers balancing a million plates, the mentors coaching our youth, and the creative spirits who add beauty to our daily lives without ever asking for a spotlight. They are the architects of our culture and the heartbeat of our neighborhoods. Whether they’re running a boardroom or a busy household, their influence is woven into the very fabric of our city.

Castle Rock has a unique way of fostering a "lift as we climb" mentality among its women, and it’s something truly special to witness. From local women-owned collaborations to the simple kindness of a neighbor, the support system here is second to none.

To all the ladies of Castle Rock: thank you for your passion, your resilience, and your unwavering investment in us all. We hope these stories inspire you as much as you inspire us.

Warmly,

May 2026

APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS

Gardening in Castle Rock presents a myriad of challenges. Beyond high altitude and difficult soils, Colorado just faced its driest, warmest winter on record. I recommend the water district’s Water Wise course for everyone. Gardening here isn’t for the faint of heart; our average last frost is May 15, and spring storms often bring damaging hail. Yet, Castle Rock can still produce beautiful, bountiful gardens.

Lawn Care

• Maintenance: Aerate, fertilize, and manage weeds.

• Mowing: Mow at a three-inch height to encourage deep, healthy roots.

Trees and Shrubs

• Pruning: Trim spring-flowering shrubs (lilac, forsythia) immediately after blooms fade to protect next year’s growth. Remove broken or diseased branches.

• Protection: Spray evergreens for pine beetles before adults emerge.

Roses

• Pruning: Remove dead canes and thin out crossing branches to maintain an open vase shape.

• Care: Fertilize once active growth appears and plant new bushes now.

Vegetables

• Warm Season: Plant after Mother’s Day. Transplant tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, and squash.

• Preparation: Harden off indoor starts and catalog orders before planting outdoors.

• Direct Sow: Beans, corn, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, and leafy greens.

• Strategy: Use companion plants to attract beneficial insects and promote growth.

Gardening is more than a lifestyle—it’s a passion cultivated over 25 years in landscape design. I cherish every moment spent nurturing the earth, watching beauty unfold, and sharing nature’s bounty. From vibrant blooms to fresh harvests, my hope is to inspire you to step outside, breathe deeply, and grow with intention. Let’s create something beautiful—together. Happy Gardening!

BECKY HILLYARD

From Side Hustle to Style Empire

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”

She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s , she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?

A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Becky in Splendid x @CellaJaneBlog Spring 2026 Collection

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?

A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.

Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?

A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.

Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?

A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.

This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.

Castle Rock Ladies Making a Difference

Powerful women shaking the landscape by supporting others in our community

We’re celebrating the positive impact women have throughout Castle Rock this month. Let’s meet Gina Anguiano and Jacque Northrup.

GINA ANGUIANO - FOUNDER OF LIVE FREE ASSOCIATION

Between Gina Anguiano’s work for her non-profit organization, Live Free Association, the Women of the Workforce (WOW), Run to Change Lives, and her 200K Instagram following, she keeps busy helping those in need around the Castle Rock community.

In regard to the Run to Change Lives, Gina explains, “Proceeds go to different organizations. Turkey Trot goes to help the Hope Center, and Shamrock and Rocket Run go to It’s A Calling Foundation.”

She continues, “It’s A Calling Foundation works with families where their husbands or wives were in the police force and passed away. Our money provides their families with counseling.”

When she’s not supporting charities, Gina supports women with her good friend, Inger Hiller, through the Women of the Workforce (WOW) organization they’ve built.

“I really just wanted to start a new group,” she explains. “It could just be the ladies of Castle Rock. It’s grown. We are up to 5,000 ladies.”

“Honestly, my goal is just to connect women,” she says. “I want to see women succeed. I want to help with their business, help them grow.”

JACQUE NORTHRUP, DIRECTOR OF WOMEN’S SERVICES AT ADVENTHEALTH CASTLE ROCK

Colorado native, Jacque Northrup, understands the impact of living and working in Castle Rock.

“I love serving the community that I live in,” she explains. “And the hospital is just an extension of that community.”

With a background as a labor and delivery nurse, Jacque’s position as the Director of Women’s Services at AdventHealth Castle Rock fell into her lap in 2019.

“There is a huge amount of respect between my employees and me, and it goes both ways,” she emphasizes. “It’s hard to find, but when you do, it’s amazing.”

Her world was turned upside down in 2024 when her son, Garrett, was in a horrific car accident, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Spending countless hours with him at Craig

Hospital in Denver, Jacque remained committed to her job and family during the hardest time of her life.

“He has such a wonderful outlook,” she explains. “He always says he might not have the same opportunities he used to have, but maybe he will have even better ones now.”

Her greatest accomplishment is watching nurse residents achieve their goals and stay on at the hospital for years afterward.

Jacque explains, “One of the nurse residents came up to me recently and asked, ‘How’s Garret?’ I was like, ‘How did you know?’ She said, ‘I went to high school with him.’ It was such a huge moment knowing that this person had gone to school with my son, and now I am training them to be a nurse. It’s just a full circle moment.”

Meet the Co-Creators of the WOW Movement in Castle Rock

ARTICLE BY KRISTEN GONZALES

PHOTOGRAPHY BY JESSICA YUAN OF LINGERING GLANCE

PHOTOGRAPHY & PROVIDED

All too often, women are juggling life, work, children, and everything in between, with little time to explore a sense of self and to meet other women. Because of this, Gina Anguiano and Inger Hiller, inspired by the men’s group BOB (Business Over Beverages), wanted a space for women in business to meet, promote their businesses, and find inspiration in each other.

“What we liked about the group [BOB] was that it was very free-flowing,” Inger says. “It’s a place where we can mix and mingle, get to know each other, give each other business cards, and build each other up.”

And so, WOW, Women in the Work Force in Castle Rock came to fruition. While there were many groups for moms, not everyone is a mother. Gina wanted to create something that encompassed all women.

After talking with Inger about her idea, it was clear they were onto something where women could get together for free to collaborate and make friends.

“I’m telling you, it snowballed,” Gina recalls when she first pitched the idea to Inger. “If I have an idea, she has an idea, and it just gets bigger and bigger and better. It’s such a cool thing.”

Inger adds, “We thought there was a niche and a place for WOW because we wanted to do something more centered and focused on women, allowing them to be around people who were of their audience.”

Gina and Inger were right. Women wanted this sense of community, and the group quickly grew to over 5,000 members. They meet on the second Tuesday of each month to connect, and the location varies throughout Castle Rock.

“At first, we just would purchase appetizers, drinks, and stuff like that,” Gina explains. “And now people are coming to us asking how they can get involved. Right now, we are pretty much full for the year!”

In April, the ladies met at Buff City Soap in their brand-new building on Wilcox Street. Gina and Inger love helping local companies gain exposure so people are more aware of what they offer.

WOW meetings are free to anyone who wants to attend. While the group centers around women in business, one of the biggest differences is that the women get to know each other on a personal level.

“As a women’s group, we get to know each other, like, tell me about your family and the neighborhood you live in and things like that,” Inger explains. “We get to know each other [first], and then we talk about our businesses. So it’s just kind of a different style than starting with business right away.”

Gina continues, “Women can come from wherever they want, but our goal is to stay here in Castle Rock for the meetings. We just want to connect women, and we want to see women succeed.”

For the ladies of WOW, Gina pitches them about the different run events she promotes for Run to Change Lives so they can showcase their business. “I give them a discount if they want to have a booth to promote their business,” she says.

In the end, Inger and Gina wanted to create a space for women where they felt welcomed, no matter what they were looking for in the evening. Whether they were new to the community, constantly bogged down by life’s pressures, or just hoping to make new friends, they wanted to ensure that every woman who walked through the door would find a sense of belonging at their WOW meetings.

“Let’s stand up and move around and kind of rotate so that everyone gets to meet each other by the end of the night,” Inger says. “I’ve seen over the years, Gina and I with WOW, so many great relationships that have been built through the group.”

At the helm, it’s always about women supporting women. It never fails, and WOW is a prime example of that.

"As a women's group, we get to know each other, like, tell me about your family and the neighborhood you live in and things like that," Inger explains. "We get to know each other [first], and then we talk about our businesses. So it's just kind of a different style than starting with business right away."

Gina continues, "Women can come from wherever they want, but our goal is to stay here in Castle Rock for the meetings. We just want to connect women, and we want to see women succeed."

Menopause Is Having Its Moment

THE

COVE

CONCIERGE MEDICINE

IS

LEADING IT IN CASTLE ROCK

PHOTOGRAPHY BY KATIE TODD PHOTOGRAPHY AND KAREN CONRAD PHOTOGRAPHY

As I talk to friends, family, and patients, I often remind them: If a woman lives long enough, she has a 100% chance of going through menopause. That’s roughly 51% of the population. The other 49% (myself included) will almost certainly love, live with, or care about someone who will experience it. With that perspective, menopause isn’t a niche issue—it’s a universal one. And yet, historically, medicine hasn’t treated it that way. For decades, research and clinical practice have centered largely on Caucasian males. While that has begun to shift over time, menopause care has lagged behind.

“THE GOAL ISN’T TO CHASE TRENDS OR PROMISE QUICK FIXES. IT’S TO HELP EACH PERSON FEEL LIKE THEMSELVES AGAIN, USING APPROACHES GROUNDED IN PHYSIOLOGY, EVIDENCE, AND REAL-WORLD PRACTICALITY.”

Then, a few years ago, the conversation changed.

A 2023 New York Times Magazine cover story, “Women Have Been Misled About Menopause” by Susan Dominus, helped bring long-overdue attention to the issue. The article explored how research gaps, pharmaceutical marketing, and oversimplified clinical approaches have shaped how menopause has been understood—and often misunderstood. It also highlighted something many women already knew: menopause is not a uniform experience, and the long-term health implications deserve thoughtful attention.

That piece reached millions and sparked conversations across the country. In many ways, it marked a turning point. Menopause, finally, is having its moment.

Clinically, menopause is defined as 365 + 1 days without a menstrual cycle. Simple on paper. Much less simple in real life.

The years leading up to menopause—known as perimenopause—typically last 4–8 years, though for some women, symptoms can persist for a decade or more. During this time, hormonal shifts can lead to a wide range of symptoms that are often missed or dismissed, both by patients and by the clinicians they see.

This isn’t about lack of empathy. It’s about lack of training. When I completed my MD and MPH between 2009 and 2014, I received perhaps one to two hours of formal education on menopause. Residency added months of obstetrics and gynecology training—but still no structured focus on menopause or midlife hormonal health. Even today, only about one-third of OB/Gyn residencies include a formal menopause curriculum.

That gap matters.

When John and I left corporate medicine to build The Cove Concierge Medicine, we partnered with MsMedicine, an affiliate organization focused on advancing women’s midlife care. One of their core requirements is that all affiliated providers become Menopause Society Certified Practitioners (MSCP).

Castle Rock is our home, and the home of The Cove Concierge Medicine. We may not be Colorado natives, but we’re here for the long run—building something sustainable, thoughtful, and deeply connected to this community. It’s a privilege to care for our neighbors. And it’s an honor to help lead with excellence in this pivotal moment of menopause care.

This certification represents the highest level of formal training currently available in menopause and midlife health. More importantly, it reflects a commitment—not just to learning once, but to continually following evolving evidence and applying it thoughtfully.

That’s where our approach begins.

We practice differently than many hormone-focused clinics because our priority is safety, consistency, and transparency. We favor FDA-regulated therapies because they allow for precise dosing, have the most regulated quality controls, and permit us to make ongoing adjustments easily. We take time to walk through risks, benefits, and alternatives so that patients can make informed decisions—not feel sold to.

My personal motto regarding health: Everything we do has a cost, and everything we don’t do has a cost. The goal isn’t to chase trends or promise quick fixes. It’s to help each person feel like themselves again, using approaches grounded in physiology, evidence, and real-world practicality.

That means individualized care. It means adjusting when needed. And it means recognizing that no two menopause journeys look the same.

We deliver high-quality BMW, European, and Asian auto care backed by expertise and precision. Our team provides comprehensive services including preventative maintenance, advanced diagnostics, digital vehicle inspections, brake service, fluid exchanges, tire care, fuel injection cleaning, performance modifications, and turbocharger service.

“We were frustrated going through designs ourselves, so having a designer was huge for us.”
