Cozy Spaces for Modern Living ERYN CASKEY OF A RUSTIC BUTTERFLY BRINGS HER OWN AESTHETIC TO MARRY RUSTIC AND MODERN TO REMODELED PERFECTION ARTICLE SONJA NIX | PHOTOGRAPHY JENAE LOPEZ Eryn Caskey of A Rustic Butterfly
CLASSIC. Simple. Rustic. Modern. These are the words Eryn Caskey use to describe her own aesthetic that she brings with her design and remodel business, A Rustic Butterfly.
F i n i s h i n g To u c h e s :
Eryn Caskey grew up in Southern California, and had a natural knack for strong interior design. At a young age she found she was skilled in decorating and arranging furniture to create livable spaces. She then worked in a lighting showroom and for a lighting design firm as a teenager and young adult. Upon moving to Colorado in 2010, Eryn managed the buildout of a new commercial space for a tech firm, which gave her exposure to broader interior redesign projects. A Rustic Butterfly grew from Eryn’s hobby of refinishing old furniture. She posted a wine bar cabinet she’d redone on

Facebook, and received a large amount of positive feedback. She began to get requests for refinished and custom-built pieces. After working several more years in a corporate environment, all while refinishing furniture on the side, she branched out on her own in 2013. Eryn began to build A Rustic Butterfly’s following on social media which continues to be a main source of exposure and referrals. “I love old things. I find meaning in everything and know that things that were once beautiful can be made beautiful again with a little love and work,” Eryn says, describing what inspires her. 22

The Franktown project featured here was a complete remodel. There were a few physical challenges, some floor work to move water lines to create room for the radiant heat. But her client was very open and turned the reins over to Eryn. Like most of The Rustic Butterfly’s work, this project features custom designed and built pieces. The vent hood was built by Eryn herself, as were the barn doors and finished in a carbon gray stain for rustic elegance. She designed the island legs to make the island more furniture-like. The floating shelves were also custom built to fit the space. She added detail by varying the double stacked upper glass cabinets and crown molding. Client Eric Kulby says “Eryn and her team were dedicated to detail, professional and timely. Eryn brings a real creative mind that helped Susan and I out when making tough decisions with style. Rustic Butterfly was a great experience and we look forward to the next project.” Eryn truly enjoys the challenges of being one of very few women owned remodeling businesses. “I work alongside my team and do the hard work and heavy lifting, getting my Eryn Caskey of A Rustic Butterfly is known locally for her innovative barndoor designs.

JESSICA NORTHROP FEELS BLESSED AND HONORED TO BE PART OF GIVEBACK HOMES
WE LOVED SITTING DOWN WITH JESSICA NORTHROP, PRINCIPAL OF THE NORTHROP GROUP TO ASK HER QUESTIONS CONCERNING WHY HER AND HER TEAM HAS SUCH A PASSION FOR BEING PART OF OF THE NON PROFIT GIVEBACK HOMES WAS A TRUE HONOR AND BROUGHT A NEW LEVEL OF INSIGHT TO HER LOVE AND PASSION AS WELL AS HER WHY. WHY DID THE NORTHROP GROUP BECOMES MEMBERS OF GIVE BACK HOMES? In 2016 I was looking for a charity to partner with and I was introduced to Giveback Homes by my sales manager. Clearly, the mission of Giveback Homes paired well with our industry but I was most inspired about their ACTION. What I mean by that is, yes you can donate money but beyond that Giveback Homes encourages members to get involved, build local teams that actual sign up and volunteer to help build homes together. In fact, shortly after I joined Giveback Homes in 2016, I traveled with them to Nicaragua to build a home. It was a very humbling experience. The need is great for so many. That trip cemented by commitment to Giveback Homes and the mission to intentionally give back and also intentionally encourage others to do the same.

THE IMPACT OF CHARITABLE GIVING (CONTINUED)
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE PART OF THIS ORGANIZATION? Being a part of Giveback Homes allows me and my clients to incorporate the sale or purchase of their home to contributing to the greater good of families in need. There is a real sense of fulfillment that comes when you see the home built and the deserving family in a safe and secure home. PEASE EXPLAIN YOUR LAST PROJECT WITH GIVEBACK HOMES The last local build date we sponsored was in October of 2020. We spent a (socially distanced) day in NW Denver working on a house for Donavan. The interesting part of this project is the new homeowner had started out as a volunteer. After the volunteer day he realized that he may be eligible to patriciate and become a homeowner himself through the program. Donovan’s first introduction to Habitat for Humanity was a teambuilding day in 2019 with his employer, TIAA. Donovan is a financial consultant for the retirement company and enjoyed the opportunity to help build homes during a volunteer day. It was during that volunteer day that Donovan learned about Habitat’s homeownership program and realized that he could qualify. Donovan was excited for the opportunity to build and buy his first home for himself and his 6-year old daughter. The two were currently sharing a 2-bedroom apartment where they had to convert her bedroom into a hybrid office so that Donovan has a place to work during the pandemic. They made the most of it by putting two desks side-by side, allowing Donovan and his daughter to work alongside each other as they navigated remote work and school. “I look at remote learning as a blessing because I get to spend extra time with my daughter,” Donovan shares. Although Donovan and his daughter were making their current living situation work, Donovan knew it’s not a great place for them long-term.

LEE TEAM BUSINESS HIGHLIGHT
This community is special to us! Melanie and I know that what makes this community special are the people and the businesses. 2020 was challenging for these small businesses, we would like to take this opportunity to give them a platform to share their passion! Thank you for continuing to support them with us! After an early retirement and move from New York in 2013, Joe Sabia and his family were reminiscing of Sunday dinners at Pino’s house, his late father who was a chef and restauranteur. His wife Allison said, “How about we keep your Dad’s legacy alive?” and with that Pino’s was born. After a 2 1/2-year search, they discovered the perfect place in La Dulce Vita and purchased the restaurant in January 2017. Working with some good bones, Sabia transformed the long-time restaurant into a Castle Rock’s favorite.
Pino’s Eat for a Cause In New York, Sabia was a firefighter on Long Island and responded to NYC on 9-11. According to Sabia, “Over 10 months, 80,000 first responders sifted through toxic debris. 40,000 are now sick, 10,000 are now terminal. On average every 2 1/2 days another 1st responder dies of a 9-11 related illness”. Many patrons ask what Joe did before Pino’s and he realized he could use this as a platform to give back to his previous profession while raising awareness. Pino’s annual ‘Eat for a Cause’ raises money for local firefighters and 9-11 initiatives. Joe’s passion has reached into the community, so much so that many patrons gave their time to make this year’s event just as successful, a true testament to the cause.
What do you enjoy most about owning a business in Castle Pines? Joe had to work extremely hard and become creative to keep Pino’s open through this pandemic. His driving force was knowing that his employees, and even more so their children, were relying on him for their livelihood. His first response, “Thank God we are a restaurant, we have plenty of food. Your family will be fed. We may not have toilet paper, but we have food.” This led to the realization that the community would need affordable take-out options and the “Family Survival Packages” were created, becoming their way to provide paychecks each week. “The support of the community never stopped, and we overcame the obstacles.” Sabia says, “The pandemic should have been a period of total
disaster. It turned into the most positive experience of my entire life. Castle Pines came together. It brought true meaning to the often-overused term ‘we are all in this together’. We truly were and I’m forever grateful and inspired”.
Help support this small business! Pino’s is 5-Star Certified for safe dining, open for dine-in and take-out at 361 Village Square Lane, Castle Pines, located across from the Castle Pines Library. Call for reservations or take-out: 303-663-3421, Sunday-Thursday 3–9pm and Friday/Saturday 3–9:30pm. The Chicken Piccata and the Grande Lasagna Bella Nonna are the Lee Family personal favorites! Pino’s affordable “Family Survival Packages” are also still available and delicious!

HOMETOWN HERO MINT HEALTH CLINICS
ARTICLE SONJA NIX PHOTOGRAPHY AMY STEPHENS
H e a lt h Redefined BUILDING STRONG DOCTORPATIENT RELATIONSHIPS FOR OPTIMAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS
LONE TREE’S MINT HEALTH CLINICS HOPE TO CHANGE THE WAY WE THINK ABOUT HEALTH CARE. In a year when our health is at the front of most of our minds and headlines, Dr. Amy Merritt and business director Shawn Stephens offer their perspective on how to deliver health care in a more efficient and effective way. WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER MEDICAL PRACTICES? While we offer the same comprehensive medical services you’ll find at other primary care clinics, we use a membership-based model, or Direct Primary Care (DPC). We do not accept or require insurance. By removing insurance from the equation, we help families and businesses save money by including all primary care needs for one low-cost membership plan. There are never any copays or deductibles. Our providers see six to eight patients a day, whereas providers in a traditional setting have 20-30 patient visits per day with an average appointment time of 12 minutes. Our typical appointment time is 50 minutes. We also provide concierge-level coordination of care with specialists and wellness providers. HOW ARE YOU CHANGING THE WAY PEOPLE THINK ABOUT HEALTH CARE COVERAGE? The membership-based model is a paradigm shift in how people think about how care is delivered. Until about the 1940s, most people paid their healthcare providers directly for primary care. People had a truly personal relationship with their physicians. 42
