Make Memories You Will Cherish this Holiday Season

Advertorial

Happy Holidays from the A Line team! It is an incredible pleasure getting to style the women of Castle Rock, and we’re here to help with all of your holiday needs - from gifts (to give or get) to curating the perfect looks for your holiday parties and family get togethers. I had the great pleasure of styling our local owner, Melissa Rufenacht, in versatile holiday garments that can be worn throughout the season.

Samira13 Jewelry Diamond Bezel White Fresh Water Pearl Necklace - $7,280 The right jewelry can make any outtt shine. We have a curated array of unique pieces, from tahition pearl charms to semi-tne studs.

Lilla P Easy Turtleneck - $240 An easy cashmere turtleneck is the perfect lightweight yet warm layer for fall and winter. I love mixing patterns, and a subtle striped knit is the perfect way to get this look.

Stop in for a glass of bubby and let us do the heavy lifting for you this year, with complimentary tailoring, gift wrap, and home drop-offs! Emily Bastaroli, Stylist

Proenza Schouler Snake Clutch - $2,495 Crafted in snake-embossed lambskin leather with decorative piping, a statement bag in warm tones will add a pop to all of your holiday outtts. I recommend a medium sized bag to hold your essentials for everything from holiday parties to shopping for gifts around town.

Derek Lam Handkerchief Skirt - $495 Opt for an a-line skirt with minimal metallic detailing to complete your festive looks this year. Elegant pleating adds depth to the shimmer and can be worn so many ways throughout the year.

Ba&sh Claudia Boots - $479 You can’t go wrong with a neutral pair of boots to add a cozy, texture-rich tnish to any look. I love pairing a dress or skirt with medium-tall boots for comfort and a layered tnish.

CREATING YOUR PERFECT BEADED BAUBLES ARTICLE BY SARAH BOOKER | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MATTHEW HARLAN

CHRISTMAS IS A TIME OF YEAR FOR TRADITIONS. Many of these cherished rituals revolve around decorations, and handmade ones tend to have particularly special meaning. Plain balls, whether clear or colored, glossy or frosted, are easy to transform into unique ornaments using readily materials. Pick your favorite colors of balls. Match tiny sequins, sparkly beads, delicate flowers, and everything in between to produce a sophisticated rather than gaudy effect. Use PVA glue to draw swirls, stars, or stripes onto balls, then roll them in glitter spread on a plate. Alternately, create patterns with tubes of metallic contour paste or glass outliner. You could also try finishing off your baubles with feathers, glittery butterflies, small shells, wired beads, or a cluster of fake berries.

December 2021 Lee Team Business Highlight

PIATTELLI VINEYARDS Advertisement

This community is special to us! Melanie and I know that what makes this community special are the people and the businesses. We would like to take this opportunity to give them a platform to share their passion! Thank you for continuing to support them with us! Longtime Douglas County residents Eric and Wendy Malinski found themselves immersed in the wine making business when the Malinski family founded the Piattelli Vineyards in 1999. They have used their success to support many local charities focusing on Children’s Hospital.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT SERVING THE CASTLE ROCK COMMUNITY? “20 years ago Wendy and I fell in love with the Castle Rock community because of the people and the beauty of the area. Even with the recent explosive growth, Castle Rock has maintained a unique small town feeling.” Malinski states.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE ARGENTINA FOR THE PIATTELLI WINE BRAND? The family focused on Argentina’s two most important wine regions, Mendoza and Cafayate Piattelli. Today the Piattelli brand is locally owned and internationally grown and has experienced explosive growth worldwide. Passionate about delivering remarkable wines at a great value, Piattelli has received recognition from the world’s top critics.

WHERE IS THE PIATTELLI WINE DISTRIBUTED? Today Piattelli is distributed worldwide but almost 20 years ago Colorado was the second market to offer Piattelli back in 2002, and Dodds Wine Vault of Castle Pines was the first retail partner. Today Piattelli is broadly distributed in Colorado retail stores and restaurants.

PIATTELI VIDEO Learn more about Piattelli in this short informative video.

WITH THE HOLIDAYS COMING UP, HOW DO YOU LIKE TO PAIR YOUR WINE? “During meals at our house, wine is appreciated like food. We like to try our wines with non traditional pairings and explore a bit.” Please visit local Castle Rock wine stores to purchase or special order some Piattelli wine for your holidays. Visit www.piattellivineyards.com for more information on the vineyard and their wine making process.

HOMETOWN HERO

ARTICLE BY LISA CAREY PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOEL MUNIZ

Do what makes you happy THE TEAM AT FACIAL AESTHETICS SHARE WHAT MAKES THEM ONE OF THE TOP RANKING MEDICAL SPAS IN THE UNITED STATES

CAN YOU GIVE OUR READERS THE HISTORY OF THE BUSINESS? Facial Aesthetics started in 1992. It was founded by Pam Grossman, who, at the time, really was just looking to share her knowledge and understanding of skin care with those who were looking for guidance and treatment. As a nurse, she was able to inject, with the oversight of Medical Director: Dr. John A. Grossman – world renowned plastic surgeon, as well as her husband. She became one of the first providers to inject collagen. Flash forward 29 years, from a staff of 2 to 32, offering a few treatments to now offering 25 med spa services for the skin and body, Facial Aesthetics has become Colorado’s premier medical spa. WHAT SETS THIS WOMAN RUN BUSINESS APART FROM EVERYONE ELSE? Its history. Its leadership. The experience. No one else can provide a Facial Aesthetics experience because no one else can offer the talent or training we do, the long-standing reputation and experience we can offer, the access to some of the greatest mind in aesthetics that we have available to us, all within a workplace culture that boasts inclusivity, camaraderie, and fun…. but that also gets down to business when it comes to delivering results. In terms of our leadership. We have a founder, Pam Grossman, who is recognized both nationally and internationally in the aesthetic space. She wrote a 13-book compendium that is used to teach skin care professionals today, and she has built this business model that has been serving Denver and surrounding areas the best in skin care for the last 29 years. Her ethos and integrity are what have made this business a success; but it doesn’t

FAVORITE 1: The Train Conductor punches all the passengers tickets. The children especially like this and find the experience exciting and fun. The train is buzzing with Christmas joy. The staff comes alive as they perform brilliantly during the entire 65 minute interactive experience.

FAVORITE 2: Once onboard, the chefs will serve hot chocolate and a sweet treat and you will enjoy a reading of The Polar Express by your conductor. Dressing in your PJ’s for the trip enhances the whole experience. It is recommended to also bring coats, gloves, hats, and anything else you want to stay warm. It can get cold in the North Pole.

FAVORITE 3: As you arrive at the North Pole, Santa is standing waving and greeting everyone as you look through the windows. Once at the North Pole you will see an incredible light show set to holiday music. On the return trip to Durango, Santa will visit each coach and hand out the first gift of Christmas.

GIVING BACK

Gratefully

GIVING AWAY AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN LAST YEAR, LIFESTYLE PUBLICATIONS IS GIVING $300,000 TO RECIPIENTS IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON AND BEYOND... AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

THEY NEED YOUR HELP FINDING THOSE RECIPIENTS. ARTICLE ALLISON GIBESON

Last year’s giveaway campaign culminated in the distribution

PHOTOGRAPHY JANIE JONES

of $250,000 throughout the year to recipients from across the country who had various needs. When the company opened nominations, they were flooded with submissions. Community members such as judges, Anna Sarol

police officers, teachers, mentors, social workers and readers like you nominated community members who were facing hardships. As the eyes and ears of the community, these readers and stakeholders were able to help identify people who might have otherwise gone unnoticed or unrecognized. One such nominee was Anna Sarol. About six years ago Anna was paralyzed in a gymnastics accident when she was a freshman in high school, but until last year she did not have a stairlift in her home. The stairlift was made possible when Lifestyle Publications gave her family $10,000 and made sure it was installed. “Stairlifts don’t come at a feasible price, and unfortunately our insurance denied coverage,” Anna says. “I watched my community come together to help me get this equipment to my house, and words can’t explain how appreciative my family and I are.” The money for Anna’s stairlift was part of the giveaway campaign from the company during the 2020 Christmas season that benefited more than 80 recipients. Among those recipients were single mothers, families with children who were facing illnesses, individuals impacted by the loss of a job, unexpected deaths and more.

50

Castle Rock Lifestyle | December 2021

Another nominee was Kathy*, an aunt who is raising her two nephews and niece. The children came from an abusive situation involving violence, drugs, and neglect. Kathy, a single parent, worked tirelessly to provide for these children, but the family was still living in poverty despite her working seven days a week. Additionally, Kathy lost her housecleaning job during the pandemic and resorted to selling tamales to help pay the rent. When a case manager with a Big Brothers Big Sisters foster youth mentoring program heard about Lifestyle’s campaign and call for nominations, she quickly thought of Kathy.

“This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors.” CONTINUED >

GIVING BACK (CONTINUED)

“When I shared the news that Kathy was selected and would be receiving $3,000, she cried, screamed, and was in disbelief,” the case manager said. “She immediately wanted to give back to me and the donor by providing endless tamales. This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors. They experienced Christmas like their peers, which filled them with such pride as it was something they have wished for all their lives.” The case manager says the lesson is clear – when we give back to others, we truly gain so much more in the process. She said she was filled with overwhelming joy when she saw the children’s faces filled with smiles and a Christmas tree in their home for the first time. In addition, the aunt’s expressed desire to give back to others made the giving cycle full circle. In yet another case, Emily* who worked as a janitor at a school, was a recipient. She was struggling to afford simply buying groceries for her children, let alone providing them with a fun Christmas. Before the ongoing difficulties of the pandemic even started, a tornado destroyed the school she worked at just a couple weeks before the initial shutdown in March 2020 which impacted her income as the students attended a nearby school after the building was hit. The whole town was struggling as 220 people were injured and five were killed because of the tornado, and everyone needed encouragement. Emily was incredibly surprised and grateful to receive assistance from the giveaway. The leaders of Lifestyle Publications believe God has blessed them, so they want to be a blessing and encouragement to others. With this year’s giveaway being increased to $300,000 to give away throughout the year, it’s clear this is an opportunity to change many lives in the same way Anna’s was changed. “As a 2020 recipient of the Christmas giveaway, I am forever grateful I now can access my basement independently,” Anna says. “Locating a fully accessible household in my area is nearly impossible, and living in a state that experiences tornado warnings means finding a way to get to my basement by myself is crucial. Not only this, but I also now have the option of utilizing another level of my house to hang out with friends and family.” *Names changed for privacy
