Whether you are the one to organize one of these blessed reunions, or one of the many participates, these occasions are like manna from heaven, and should be approached with a certain reverence mixed with joy. Family Reunions can become the glue that holds the spirit of a family together. Reunions celebrate the strength and love that sustains the family. We gather together to honor past generations and acknowledge the future we want to secure for those who will carry on after us. Here are just a few ideas to stimulate plans for meaningful and lively get-togethers.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Head to your local library to grab a book on planning a reunion. I always feel like you can go online, but why not head to the library, take a notebook and pencil and settle into a quiet space and do some good old fashion research.

SPREAD OUT THE DUTIES AMONG SEVERAL FAMILY MEMBERS

This is not only to save your sanity, but to insure you are capitalizing on the talents of the family members as a whole. Besides, who will carry on the family tradition if something happens to one member who is responsible for all aspects of the gathering?

HIGHLIGHT THE CHILDREN Consider the value of including the little ones in most of the

activities. Perhaps a separate invitation addressed directly to the children would be in order, mentioning activities in which they will participate, and a copy of the family tree with their names highlighted on it. This would help them understand the big picture and the part they play in it.

Maybe there is an artist in the family who would take responsibility for creating a family crest, or a design specific to the year and place you are gathering. Not only will it make a wonderful sentimental souvenir, but worn at the reunion, it acts as a common denominator among you.

The community response from Castle Rock has been both overwhelming and serendipitous, and the nonprofit is humbled by the individuals, local institutions and the 170 personal volunteers who support it, a list now too hefty to name in a brief exposé. This benevolent generosity is allowing Wellspring to grow the base of the people it serves, granting more families the miracle of seeing their loved ones flourish in this special service delivery model. This selfless openhandedness has also gifted Wellspring a plot of land in Castle Rock, upon which a facility that houses all local programs and enterprises will eventually be constructed. Moreover, a church partner in Colorado Springs has been identified as a satellite location that will allow the nonprofit to serve up to 40 families, with more waiting in the wings for this God-centered service from which so many can benefit. The icing on the cake is the donation of a new 14-passenger van and the grace of more than $46,000 raised on Colorado Gives Day. Wellspring holds donation events and volunteer opportunities throughout the year but lovingly accepts gifts at any time. The nonprofit's appreciation is palpable; however,

The opportunity to form a working and collaborative relationship is provided because of this. WHAT’S YOUR BEST LIFE ADVICE? As a human being, the keystones to success include always being true to your word, honoring your commitments and being honest. First and foremost, build relationships with students and parents and ensure that all students are valued as individuals. When students feel understood, heard and acknowledged, there is more opportunity for growth. WHAT IS YOUR PASSION? WHAT IS A LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED? One life lesson I have somewhat learned but I am still working on, is that is failure is OK. I tend to be a perfectionist, so I struggle when I fail something in life that I am passionate about. The truth is, however, failing is how you get better. You try something, you fail, and you learn from it to become better. WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS? Although I don’t know what I want to do when I am older, I do know that I want to be happy. It sounds cliche, but most people have a time in their lives where they hate their job and they want to do what they love so they can be happy, but they are scared to make the leap. I want to try and jump over as many of the unhappy and frustrating parts in life as I can and just do what I love, whatever that may be. WHAT IS YOUR PASSION? I am passionate about keeping my grades up, doing cheer, getting better at surfing and skiing, staying active, being social, being happy, having time for my family, taking as many opportunities as I can, but most importantly, giving back to my community. I like to stay involved in community service through student government and NJHS at Sagewood but also through SECOR, which is very near and dear to my heart. I love to help any way I can. I have been very blessed to always have a roof over my head, food on my table and anything else I could ever need, so I find it important to give to the people who are not as fortunate as I am. If we give to the people who need help, we are making our community stronger as a whole, and to impact as many people as I can in my life is really my big end goal.
