New Year JANUARY 2017
H
appy New Year!
PUBLISHER
I can't believe it, but 2017 is here! It seems like each year goes by faster than the last! How was your 2016? Did you live each day to the fullest or did you get stuck in the daily shuffle, blink and boom it was gone? Either way, it's history and now it's time to look forward to a new year!
Do you make New Year's resolutions? I make at least 7 or 8 every year! Lol, no really I do! I'm going to cook homemade meals every night, give up ALL sugar, my house is going to be spotless, I'm going to do another marathon (maybe throw in an Ironman triathlon), finally grow my hair gorgeous, mermaid long and NEVER yell at my kids... ever again. Hmm...do you think I stick with these? Heck no! Usually by January 8th or 9th, I've had a hectic day, I'm ordering pizza, skipping a workout, screaming at someone and wanting to chop my hair off. So why, when I know they are unattainable, do I continue to make these resolutions each year?

Well, I love the idea of a fresh start. It could be New Year's, Monday or any day at all. I love the thought that you can wake up and recreate yourself and your life at any time. There is a quote that says, "Life has no remote control. If you don't like what you see, get up and change it!" What a great saying. We all get stuck in a rut every now and then, but we have the ability to decide to change. So, let's make this our BEST YEAR EVER!

What does your best year look like? Maybe it's getting on an exercise program and eating a bit healthier. It could be de-cluttering your life and getting rid of stress? Whatever it may be, I hope you find some helpful tips in this month's issue to steer you in the right direction. I'm resolving NOT to make resolutions this year. I'm just going to try and enjoy each day a little bit more. Be kind, smile, laugh, enjoy my family and realize that it's OK to not be perfect. Life is short, enjoy the ride!

WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR CREDIT SCORE Blemished credit is both stressful and costly, but it’s not the end. As hopeless as the situation might seem, bad credit won’t last forever. There are things you can do right now to begin improve your credit score. 1 Review your credit report. Getting your credit score back on track begins by reviewing your credit reported for errors. If you do find a mistake, dispute it with the credit repositories. You can have your credit pulled for free at www.annualcreditreport.com. 2 Pay on time. Set up payment reminders and auto payments if offered. Delinquent payments, even if a few days past the due date can have a negative impact on your FICO Scores. 3 Reduce the amount of money you owe. Use your credit report to make a list of all credit cards and their interest rate. Focus on paying off the higher interest rate cards, while maintaining the monthly minimum due to the other creditors. 4 Credit Cards Avoid credit card purchases. DO NOT close the unused credit cards as a short term strategy to raise your score. DO NOT open any new credit cards without talking to a Mortgage 1 Lender first. New account will not help your credit for six months. 5 Pay off down debt. The amount of debt you’re carrying on your credit cards plays a critical role in credit scoring. Borrowers should strive to keep balances in-between 5-9% of the high credit.

FREE ENTREPRENEUR SCHOOL COMING TO LEE COUNTY A new educational concept is coming to Southwest Florida in January 2017, announced today by Lee County resident, Jim Griffiths. “Learn to think like an Entrepreneur,” a 501c3 nonprofit public learning center supported by local businesses, will be holding free ongoing classes for the general public. The gatherings will include workshops, think-tanks, brainstorming, and guest speakers to teach the basic principles of how thinking like an entrepreneur can be applied every facet of a person’s life. School will begin in January 2017 hosted by Griffiths, a business owner since the age of thirteen, and publisher of SW Florida’s Nautical Mile Magazine. The free classes will have guest speakers, group interaction and discussions about how an entrepreneur’s mind creates solutions and overcomes obstacles that people do not know how to engage. The school theory emphasizes how applying the principles of thinking like an entrepreneur will help in all facets of life regardless of age, education, or background. “It’s not about business; it’s for any facet of life, from a student to a retiree. It’s about how an entrepreneur THINKS. Information on class locations, 12

With all they offer, what really makes GCFFC special is the instructors and owners. The Rosado’s (Israel and Christa) and The Carey’s (Paul and Nicole) are busy working parents themselves and understand how hard it is for people to find time in their hectic lives to exercise. Israel says, “When we came to Cape Coral and saw that children had no real options for physical activity besides sports or martial arts, we decided to open a family fitness center. Although sports are great activities for kids, all too often the parents are left sitting on the sidelines. The local gyms didn’t offer kid based classes, so when the parents are working out, the kids are forced to sit in a daycare watching TV.” GCFFC offers the best of both worlds, where kids and parents can take classes at the same time in separate rooms. The whole family can get fit together.

THE FABULOUS FEMALES OF GCFFC: Nicole Thomson-Carey wasn’t always the vision of health she is today. After losing her mother at age 51 from cirrhosis of the liver, she decided to deal with her own addiction issues and check herself into a holistic treatment center where she was introduced to exercise. She loved the feeling she got from a good sweat session. As painful as it was losing her mom, she believes it set her on the right path and exercise/fitness has saved her life. She has been sober for 7 years and her favorite part of her job is the people she works with. Nicole teaches circuit and strength classes, but her favorite is Hip Hop! Don’t let the title of hip hop class scare you. There is no head spinning and you don’t have to be JLO to attend. She keeps the routine simple and the same, so moms and women of all ages can come and dance away the stress of the day. It feels more like a girl’s night out than an exercise class! Nicole also teaches kids classes and loves seeing the confidence they gain through exercise. Christa Rosado’s exercise history started when she was just 2 ½ years old. Her mom signed her up for dance classes and she immediately loved movement. She continued to dance and played sports through high school. Christa also attended an endless number of fitness classes with her mom where often the instructors would let help teach. Jazzercise was one of her favorites. In college she earned a degree in Dance Choreography and a master’s in Speech-Language pathology. When she had two young children, she took her first Zumba class and was hooked. The instructor saw how quickly she caught on and encouraged her to get certified to teach. That’s how it all began. Now she has a national certification through AFAA and has branched out to teach Pilates, Kangoo, Ballet Barre, MyRide Virtual Indoor Cycling, Hip Hop, and most Zumba and Zumba specialty classes. It warms her heart to see how the camaraderie of classes brings together people of all ages, races and backgrounds.

Hair loss can be a devastating result of the aging process, malnutrition, hormone changes, a nagging reminder of a recent illness, the ruminates of chemotherapy treatments, or just the result of those cards you’ve been dealt, your genetics. Good news! You don’t have to learn to accept it. Dr. Taylor explains, “I use a high-tech painless laser that increases blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles. After treatment, we can get four hairs sprouting from one follicle.” The Low-Level Light Therapy supports increased hair growth, improving texture while providing a lustrous and full appearance. Dr. Taylor is currently expanding her techniques by using anti-aging breakthroughs such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), a safe non-surgical treatment. WEIGHT MANAGEMENT THAT WORKS
Utilizing the Medi Weightloss Clinics, an infrastructure that combines information, accountability, and common sense, Dr. Taylor not only helps patients shed pounds, but maintain their optimal weight. Coaching patients along the way and providing the latest medical interventions, participants shed more than pounds. Patients reduce the risk of chronic illness, and in some cases, take back their lives and finally find the freedom that weight loss brings. Patients undergo an initial consultation, receive individualized recommendations, and schedule weekly visits, ultimately reaching those wellness goals. Dr. Taylor explains, “It’s really about providing an individual plan for the client and supporting them along the way.” Let’ s face it, lip-gloss and weight loss only go so far. Do a little cheating if you want to beat the aging process! CHEATING? 100 PERCENT ACCEPTABLE!
When you chalk those lines up to life, Dr. Taylor provides anti-aging techniques that rewind the clock restoring a youthful, rested appearance. Using dermal fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, Belotero, Radiesse, and Sculptra, relaxers including Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, and a body contouring technique using Kybella, Dr. Taylor creates a look that is never overdone, just a more beautiful you! Dr. Taylor also offers PCA Chemical Peel, Age Control Solutions and Obagi Medical prescriptions that firm, plump, and regenerate tired skin. Not a one-size-fits-all practice, Dr. Taylor combines art and science delivering results! Are you determined to make your beauty goals a reality? Not totally committed, but want more information? EXPERIENCE FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC STOP SETTLING FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT ARTICLE DR. OMAR CLARK | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
I
t’s a brand new year: new goals, new relationships, new schedules, new adventures, the list can go on! What about a brand new you? Picture a new version of yourself living life and functioning at 100%. We all want to feel great and look even better, but how is your body functioning? Are you waking up with aches and pains every day? Are you suffering from headaches and migraines on a daily basis? Are you being faced with taking medications just to manage the levels of pain you experience on a daily basis? Well if that is the case, it is time to STOP SETTLING for PAIN MANAGEMENT and focus on what is most important, your nervous system. Grey’s Anatomy (the textbook) states, “the central nervous system controls and coordinates all organs and structures of the human body.” Our nervous system is the master control center of our entire body, which is responsible for how well our bodies function, adapt to its environment and heal. Upper Cervical Chiropractors focus on the top two bones in the neck and a key portion of the nervous system called the brain-stem. The interrelationship between these structures is absolutely essential to the body’s ability to promote and restore health. A misalignment here will disrupt brain to body communication and if not corrected lead to the loss of body function and healing potential. Upper Cervical Chiropractors take great care in determining where a misalignment is in the spine and correct it with a precise adjustment. This serves to remove nerve system interference and allows the body to return to a state of health. Isn’t that where we all want to be? It’s time to be the best version of you by functioning at your highest level of health. Don’t just live life surviving, experience a life that is thriving.

MASON JAR FUEL UP WITH THESE SIMPLE AND CLEAN JAR OATMEAL RECIPES
Your mom said it to you, you've said it to your kids..."You've got to eat breakfast!". For years nutritionists have agreed that it's the most important meal of the day. All too often, we rush out the door without properly fueling up. This can lead to feeling tired or overeating later in the day. These overnight oats are so simple and great to grab and go for a nutritious first meal of the day. You can really mix anything in, but here are a few of our favs:
Jar Oat Base: (Start with a Mason jar) 1/2Â cup dry whole oats (uncooked) 1 cup skim or almond milk (We like the almond/coconut blend!) 2-3 spoonfuls of plain or vanilla yogurt. (Greek or regular.) 1 tbsp honey or 1-2 packets of stevia, your choice! 1 tbsp chia seeds
Peanut Butter Banana: Add above ingredients AND 1/2 Banana sliced

W
ellness is much more than exercise or nutrition. It is the full integration of one’s self. Human beings are made up of seven dimensions of wellness including social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, occupational, intellectual and physical wellness. When each of these dimensions are in balance, they interact in a way that contributes to our quality of life making us feel happy, safe, and fulfilled. When out of balance, we may experience periods of dis-ease or dis-comfort of the mind, body, or spirit. The dimension challenged in today’s stressful world is our emotional wellness. Emotional wellness is the ability to understand ourselves and cope with the challenges life can bring. The ability to acknowledge and share feelings of anger, sadness, love, and joy in a productive manner contributes to this dimension. We see this dimension being challenged in many areas of our lives and across many generations. Being emotionally well is more than just handling stress during times of chaos, but it involves being attentive to our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; positive or negative. Shifting ourselves into calmness immediately is the challenge. The good news is if emotional wellness is in balance, it implies we have the ability to accept our feelings, rather than to deny them. This creates an optimistic approach to life. Our most basic survival tool for stress is breath. Ironically, this is the first thing we forget in times of overwhelm.
4. Let your hands

I want to share with you a strategy I use called the Preventive 3-B-C (Three-Breath-Countdown) to find emotional balance. I learned this strategy from Millie Grenough, founder of Oasis In The Overwhelm™. The 3-B-C is one of four strategies intended to help find balance in a busy world. It is easy and effective and can be called upon anytime. It brings in calmness immediately and helps to stop the whirl, drop the turmoil, and move from craziness to calm in 60 seconds.
